I swear this whole series is just an endless opera of people saying the stupidest shit possible like it was some profound wisdom. Every time someone opens their mouth I can feel brain cells dying from the sheer retardation.

Cool antagonist until they decided he had to spend half a series in his castle between being able to take over the world and immediately taking over the world.
Then he is just a shadow of his former self, without the series acknowledging evil he did (killing Noventa) and trying hard to make him a big romantic

>"war brings out the best in humankind, wanton slaughter is bad"
>"my soldiers line up men against the wall and execute them and have giant robot firefights in residential areas as well"
The show literally opens up with mass civilian executions and I'm supposed to believe this clown's talk of honor in battle?

he is a very weird character because he is portrayed as a noble-never-does-anything-wrong dude that wants to counter the alliance and brin things under his control
he pulls off some very shady shit at the start of the show, like directly provoking Heero to get rid of the government members that were willing to make peace with the colonies, inviting that guy to his plane and throwing him off in perhaps the most ridiculous kill ever in a gundam series and later building on his own the Epyoon in his basement
he then evolves into an even more heroic figure who preaches about the dangers of dehumanizing war with drones (the mobile dolls), which kinda makes sense, as under that precept, peace which is already regarded as something sacred and precious in the show becomes even more fragile and distant

I just rewatched this got the first time in like 20 years. It's some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen. It feels like it was written by an 8 year old. I remember old uc fags making fun of wing when it came out and I thought they were retarded. Man I was fucking stupid.

>Oh no! How could all my warmongering and sabotage result in the creation of mobile dolls which are definitely antithetical to fighting wars with human soldiers that systematically get trained to think of themselves as killing machines that must treat the orders of their superiors as absolute and have every trace of empathy or independent thought beaten out of them in favor of blind obedience? How could this possibly be happening??

Treize is basically the guy who started the "indomitable human spirit" meme and has such a throbbing erection for humanity that he wishes to go down in a blaze of glory emulating a proud soldier.
That is quite literally his entire character.

I think this is actually pretty smart. I mean, I don't want to get into politics, but shit like this works well when targeted towards scammers. Nobody on the right wants to pull the trigger though.

They tried to make him a space Napoleon Bonaparte/Alexander/Frederick II enlightened absolutist in character but missed the mark all things considered.
Its very easy to make a space version of Hitler with Gihren as that man is just social darwinism manifest, or make space Moses with CCA Char(saying let my spacenoids go!) but making a space version of the aforementioned enlightened absolutists is much harder given how complex the men, their ambitions, foresight, and their revolutionary genius in fighting war and politic. (As the other guy said, making another Tallgeese but forgetting the zero system and building Epyon which is revolutionary only in that it aura farms like no other suit did before; doesnt strike me as genius tactician who knows war like a science and thus makes the viewer take his principles and words seriously)
They did nail the steadfast belief that order is a virtue in of itself and that a people unused to restraint must be led, they will not be drove.
And his fascination with CQC is a nice touch. If hes going to fight in humanities last war. He will fight like his ancestors for majority of all conflicts in human history. Up close, face to face and personally. Its his personal homage to humanity and wars close relationship.
But I think Gundam at that point had moved on from the grey narratives and complicated contradictory characters. So Treize just feels like a character past their time which given his aesthetic is also one of a time long past, ends up being fitting i guess. But the rest of the show is moving on its own beat and doesnt really care to do much more on him than it needs to so Treize just comes off as whatever is convinient for the plot, going from deep to shallow, buffoon to genius etc etc. With nothing in between.
Love him as a concept and the potential he could have had but he is in the wrong show.

I feel like all the takes here are conveniently forgoing talking about the inciting incidents that led to his character taking the stance he does. Treize was also upended by OZ and the alliance the same way everyone else was. His conqueror demeanor was something he grew out of as a result. He personally hands the Epyon to Heero and by extension Zechs because it was the best fighting chance they had against the mobile dolls. And then he fights in that final war because at that point, he’s literally helping to defend the earth. I think he’s a noble man. My one real criticism is he shouldn’t have just let himself get killed when it didn’t amount to anything.

>because he is portrayed as a noble-never-does-anything-wrong dude that wants to counter the alliance and brin things under his control
I honestly hate this archetype of character, it just endlessly pisses me off to see a holier-than-thou character do despicable shit and just get away with it. I really hated Aeonlia Schenberg in 00 for the same reason, guy somehow predicted (and was thus able to control) the entire future to follow his entire dogma and philosophy. So insufferable.
So I didn't like Treize for most of Wing. The one thing I liked that he did was that at the end of each day he heard a report about all the soldiers that died during his crusade. Their names, who they were. The sacrifices he felt he had to pile up, he wouldn't let those people die in vain and be forgotten. If only he did more things like that I'd like him more. Also the Tallgeese II is ugly as shit and adding a Gundam face ruins the entire design.

Ages ego
Did he even name him or just lamented his own soldiers?
Anyway, Noveta's daughter was cut off from the story after meeting Heero and being mentioned during his duel with Zechs. Due to that, nothing indicates Treize gave a fuck about her. I much more remember Treize caring about Une going coo coo due to her feelings to him.
Besides, there really wasn't much of need to kill Noventa in the first place. Relena's speech was able to sway most of the rich nobles, only two old cronies were a problem. Starting a war to show how wars are scary seemed like an overkill, even if you get along with such a silly plan in the first place

See I don't like that either. I feel like it's just such a simple thing to do to make him look complex. The names and the fact that he does it doesn't really have any tangible effect on the show. It's just there so he can respond to the hero's accusations.
