Do you prefer your Mecha to be optimistic or pessimistic?

Oh my god just pick a side you pussy. Play along for once. Good Christ. You can like both just pick one. EVERYONE prefers the story and characters to be good. You're not flipping special.

Optimistic. Pessimism is good, balance and variety even moreso, but I'm a tokufag as well as a hobbyani fan so I generally just prefer my shit to be big, bombastic, awe inspiring and confidence giving because I lack power in the real world and don't need to always be reminded of it from the things I watch but I do like being inspired to cause change in the ways I can. Plus, super robot shit (which is usually what's most optimistic on average) is just awesome.

Given the preceding posts, idk if this is going to be a good thread, and this is a reductive question.
But I can add that The Sky Crawlers has recently become my favorite movie. I don't say that lightly.
While it's definitely a depressive movie, I'd argue that it is optimistic.
And as I looked back on my favorite anime, comparing Sky Crawlers to the others I rated highly, I think my preference is a kind of realism tempered optimism.

Any of the Getters is infinitely more optimistic than Gurren Lagann. The latter is faux optimism. Not my cup of tea
And so, accordingly, I prefer deranged chuuni optimism. GaoGaiGar is technically such, another example. Gundam Unicorn is a faux deranged chuuni optimism example. G Gundam plays it too straight to count, it's vanilla optimism. Xenogears is nice deranged optimism.
