It really depends on what you are going in with. One thing Eva does really well is how depressing the atmosphere of the show is.
I watched Eva when I was still schooling, was in the period of time where waiting for my final exam results and also had to think about what I want to do after graduating.
Needless to say the teenage hormones, anxiously waiting for my exam results and also having to seriously think about my future, Eva kinda amplified all of those feelings and thinking back, it felt like a weird trippy ass period of time in my life where I suddenly had a bout of depression.

so far I'm impressed by the details, I'm pausing every 2 minutes to see them

oh woah I'm in the same place, maybe if I keep watching it's going to unlock something in me.

It's very well made. I didn't vibe with Eva immediately as a 15yo and only kept watching because I liked the presentation and styling a lot in the first 2 episodes.
13 years later it's still my favourite work of fiction.

> but don't interact with the fandom, it will only poison your appreciation for it
It's univetable, I'll just have to pick who to interact with
>Don't bother with the numbered movies
I indeed will bother with them. I think there's also a recap(?) movie just after the original season I have to watch
