>A narrative pillar series does its job of being a narrative pillar by propping up the setting
The fundamental "problem" is that most SRW fans are upset that a "kiddie" series acts as setting fodder instead of the usual Gundam or approved "cool" series like Yamato and GGG.
>>
>>23821388
>skip
Wataru literally was the main focal point of the game even during route splits. Even with either Buddy Complex/Gundam or everything else. It
>>23821401
I said trash but I honestly like it better than T. I couldn't finsh it, I didn't like the OG or the harem and the gane felt really rushed
>>
>>
>>23821416
The difference between Yamato and Wataru is that even though Yamato got focused at the start it's plot literally just stops right at stage 10 and doesn't become relevant again until the last 3. Wataru is relevant at all times and is focused on the entire game to the point everyone treats him like the MC
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>23821421
>Yamato isnt relevant again until the last 3
Bullshit and you know it. They spend a decent amount of the Blue Earth plot building up to rejoining Yamato. Red Earth plot is mostly filler but we do deal with Yamato villains and they had it substitute for the EVA Positron Cannon power supply. The last third of V is heavily dominated by Yamato's plot as well.

>Wataru literally was the main focal point of the game even during route splits. Even with either Buddy Complex/Gundam or everything else. It
Wataru is literally irrelevant to the char stuff that pops up in the g reco split, same with the Buddy Complex stuff
>>
>>23821446
Not him, but I don't understand what the point here would be. SRW V stands for Voyage, the Yamato is a powerful ship sent on a disparate mission and during the journey fall into a "detour" that proves lucky and crucial to the mission's success, because through the detour, it met powerful allies who will then make the difference at the decisive moment.
So even if the Yamato finds itself having to solve problems that aren't its own mid-voyage, it's still an important part of defining the genesis of this group, who ultimately return the favor.

>Wataru level 1
You have to do it
>Wataru level 2
Is actually a giant Code Geass shill session.
>Wataru level 3/4
Can be skipped
>Wataru level 5
The most important part of that map was Kamille/Mashmyre
>Wataru level 6
Can be skipped. I recall that one being about Todd and the granny
>Wataru level 7
Mandatory. Doakudar (and Ankoku Daishogun) were also just afraid of the Anti Spirals
Meanwhile you cant skip any of the important Yamato moments and even the OG plot ends with Nine/Nevanlinna being tied into the Zero Reverse system plot. Hell, Dessler is the first part of the final map.

Wataru is not relevant in a ton of the plots even on its "splits". Please tell us how Wataru hijacked the Nadia and Mightgaine stuff. Wataru's contribution to Cross Ange was just them replacing him for Getter's position in V. CA was mostly cross over with the other Sunrise stuff to the point that Buddy Complex crosses an entire route split to fuck Embryo's shit up.

Not that I have any idea of what series could come out with some new form to sell off nowadays. Dancouga and Scopedog are pretty easy to envision I suppose. I can't really think of something like a new Goshogun or maybe a new Layzner or some such.

I don't think Amuro will get anything this time around. If there are any Gundams, it will be one of these two updates, Gwitch or Seed Freedom, I don't think both. In fact, Y seems to have left an door open for both, but it remains to be seen how true it is.
I would also prefer something about Wing or G, but I don't think it's possible.
>>
>>23821352
Hell I wouldn't mind if they went proper 3D again and made it more like G Gen style only in a SRW. The most recent Tallgeese on the damn mobile game has better attacks there than in it's SRW appearances.

>>
>>23821573
Given their previous efforts so far and the receptions towards them, I don't think they'd be too jazzed about the idea of trying out fully 3D models again any time soon. Though I do admit seeing Eternal-level animations on non-Gundam units would be interesting.

SRW OE is infamous and gives many people nightmares when it comes to 3D SRW, but I actually really liked the graphics of the models. We're talking about many years ago; technology has moved on.
3D models in Cell Shading animated like SD Gundam G Generation would be interesting.

I honestly thought it wasn't bad-looking yeah. Not sure I really jived with the 3D map movement, the different attacks having those extra properties and stuff like that, but visually it was alright and the cast list was neat enough, and it had like, a few plot things that were kinda interesting from what I recall. (Wasn't it a bad guy from Lamune that ended up accidentally summoning Dunbine, for instance?)
Something more like GC/XO, more standard SRW play but with better graphics...I wouldn't mind seeing how it would work out at least. Dunno how it would affect the animation workload for the team compared to the current way of doing things, though.

We already have an upgrade with Alan alive. Its called Final Dancouga. Ultimate is definitely something they invented for whenever Dancouga comes back and they decide to stick with series canon or try to do God Bless/Blazing Epilogue again.
>>
>>23821606
Personally I think they should have added the long range rifle, which I don't understand why it doesn't have, the Ryo punch instead of those lame wings cutter and after the Dancou Shinken (or before that) a more powerful attack where they separate (revealing that it is an armor)attack in beast mode and then recombine at the end.
I love the design, but it was a huge disappointment.

Most games with Dancouga only covered the TV plot and saved Alan.
Compact 1/2/Impact focused on the OVAs which is why we didnt get Alan.
GC is the first game that included Final and every game since then included it even when adapting the OVAs.
30 is the first time since the early 00s where they didnt include him.
>>23821632
They could have just done a basic melee attack that has the wing slicers and finishes with the classic Ryo punch.

Are SRW games always this boring to play? I bought both the 30th anni game and Y. They're snooze fests. Every machine I have slaughters anything that gets close, even "bosses" dont stand a chance, it just takes a few turns to kill them because of their health being buffed 3x the amount of other units. I watch the same 1-2 cutscene from each mecha because most only have 1-2 attacks ever worth using. Adding spirits and pilot skills make an already game even easier.
I thought it would just be the first handful. But outside of challenges in Y, there hasn't been a single mission I've ever even lost a unit to. I loved SRW OG on the GBA, one of my favorite games. Skills spirits and attacks all had their uses and were mandatory for clearing some stages and ALWAYS needed to get the hero medals or getting secrets like blowing up whatever Boss before they retreated. Are modern SRW games just spectacles now? Just toy commercials but for the anime the mecha represent? Or is this a concession because Japan still thinks Americans are too stupid to play a hard game so theyre just making their games omega easy now thanks to worldwide releases?

All Super Robot Wars (except for 3 and a few others) are stupidly easy because they're not aimed at an audience that plays them for the FFT-like gameplay, they play them for the fanservice. Any attempt to increase the difficulty has always been rejected by the Japanese.
You play SRW if you're a fan of the old robots from the '80s and '90s or Gundam, for nostalgia's sake. If an SRW manages to provide a minimum of challenge it is just an extra, but it has never been the primary goal.

Figure I'll mention it since I talked about it here a while ago - the cross ange vn translation plan is rip because trying to patch it butchers the sprites so much. If anyone cares for the 3.1 gemini pro TL files here they are https://litter.catbox.moe/x4ox2si1c8qkahhz.rar you can clean up the numbers with regex and ask an LLM for a simple python script that feeds lines to your clipboard and use lunatranslator to display it. You'll still have to look up which file you need for each scene by OCR'ing and using notepad++ to search the jp folder for the jp line though. And the translation was limited to 44 characters per line, so while not bad it had to make some liberties in places.
That + the fact you'll need to OCR equipment and 'talk' minigame sections makes the usefulness questionable, but I guess it might still be preferable to retranslating the whole thing yourself? Whatever.

unfortunate. Kind of sad to see the games haven't really evolved too much since the OG games on gba. I felt comfortable at first since there don't seem to be any new spirits or pilot skills. But then I realized it's been 20 years and the only thing they've added is better graphics and uh....well they removed interchangeable weapons and pilot/mech swapping, or heavily limited it to the point where its pointless. I guess upgrading the ships for passives is cool but. Just seems like 20 years and the game got worse. I don't need ball busting challenges, but this is kind of a bummer. I was excited to finally play some SRW games in English. oh well.
Have they talked about ever re-releasing old games with official english transaltions? I always wanted to play the SRW Z(?) games because they have Gurren Lagann and 08th ms team. I guess I could suffer some fanservice if I got to play a series with series I actually knew in them.

>>23821663
>>23821673
No one likes SRW when they present a modicum of challenge as you'll always get whining about it being tedious/slog/bullshit etc because you need to use more strategy than turtle or let Amuro/whoever nuke everyone to death. Its a fanservice franchise first and if you want difficulty you'll have to impose it on yourself.
>>
>>23821681
The OG games are a world apart. They're literally the best thing about the franchise, but because they're "OG," they don't sell as much as the main series precisely because the target audience isn't interested in the gameplay.
I'd kill to have a 2nd OG translated, let alone a new Srw OG made by Tose.

>>23821681
If it's not for you because you need a challenge, there's nothing more to be said. Plus the OG games allowed them to be more free with the units, weapons and pilot swapping because it was all their own IP.
There's no talks of rereleases of old games, and it's pretty unlikely it'll ever happen. (It's only the later Z games that have Gurren Lagann by the way, and no 08th MS Team. There's a fan translation of A Portable for the PSP that does have them in it, you could try that. It also might have something closer to the difficulty you're after.)
>>
>>23821673
>for a while
They've been like even during the OG1 days when most people started. This nonsense about needing to "evolve" or whatever is lame too because new fangled mechanics doesnt magically make a strategy game better.
>>
>>23821685
AP was kinda cuntish but I liked that, meanwhile in 30 you've got like a dozen units that can just walk all over the map killing everything in one hit.
