It would just be outrageously cruel to human Sunset no matter what, too much time has passed to just fix things for her and the implications would practically condemn pony Sunset to be a monster no matter what for doing all of that to her.

It's easier to just say that human Sunset is just living an alternate life elsewhere and if pony Sunset had not come around then things may have been different for her, maybe she'd be at Canterlot high with everyone else right now instead of wherever she wound up.

If not for the magic she would have just went on that solo study thing she was working on and no one would have ever heard from her again, definitely not the M6 crew, they likely would have never met her.

Her life had it's course altered by Pony Twilight and Sunset's presence, there's no reason to think the same didn't just happen to human Sunset.
After all, I'm pretty sure Sunset just took the mirror to get to the human world, Twilight didn't send her human counterpart anywhere when she did that.

Yeah but those are legendary mages from centuries before her time. There's no telling if they ever made those spells available to learn; it at least seems like something on the same level as Starswirl's time travel spell which was locked up and kept under guard.

My headcanon remains that human Sunset is a runaway and the plot of her movie is finding the gem Starswirl the Bearded gave to Princess Celestia when she was a filly to help her control her unbelievable magical powers while she was still a magical novice. Once Celestia mastered her magic beyond her talent of raising the sun, she put it into storage, and it naturally became misplaced and forgotten in the Castle of the Two Sisters. The longer that pony Sunset stays in the human world, more and more portals are opening between the two worlds to try and "catch" pony Sunset to restore balance. However, the portals can't tell the difference between human and pony Sunset, and since the high school portal is so close to pony Sunset, portals have been opening haphazardly around human Sunset. A portal opens connecting the Castle with a cold, damp, dark alley where human Sunset is sleeping, landing next to her. It's full of pure fire magic, and human Sunset finally has the power she's been desperate to have since she was a child. As a child, human Sunset's parents fought so much, every achievement she had in grade school was overshadowed by their shouting. All she wanted was to make people pay attention to her, but she never could unless she was getting in trouble or breaking things. She's become a delinquent and a villain because negative attention is the only attention she is used to getting. With the gem full of Celestia's magic, she can make people pay attention to her, but she has a more important task first. She needs to snuff out the imposter who's been living the life she deserved, and no amount of empathy from pony Sunset will stop the burning anger that's boiling over within human Sunset.
