Since I've gotten back into mlp I've been looking through old forum threads from 2011-14, and seeing how people reacted to Twilicorn back then made me think,
>do people still hate Twilicorn?
So, I decided to come here to ask if any of you still Twilicorn and what your first reactions were, I'm honestly be pretty curious to know

Anons who hated Twilicorn still hate it, it was the clear sign of the Hasbro retardation. But many Anons left and were replaced by zoomies who didn't watch this episode when it aired.
Hasbro did it because they thought in 2012 that FiM was dead, so they just wanted to wrap up the show after standard 65 episodes.
Instead of focusing on ponies they tried to copy Mattel's Monster High with Equestria Girls because they saw that hunanizations were popular. Another retarded decision because they were too woke to just make white girls as they were drawn by the fans.

How old is that image? It doesn't even have EQG, so it must have been made right after MMC premiered. Is there a more up-to-date version with shit like the school of friendship, the treebary being destroyed and the villain trio getting stoned?

> Is there a more up-to-date version with shit like the school of friendship, the treebary being destroyed and the villain trio getting stoned?
No. Essentially, in 2013 corporations strongarmed every mainstream platform, and all people who complained about EQG and Twilicorn either left the fandom or were forced to shut up.
Since then the mainstream brony fandom embodies picrel.

I like Twilicorn more than Unitwi. Unitwi's only redeeming factor was her snark in S1 but is otherwise a bore and feels incomplete as the main character. I think she needed a little more time in the oven to establish her background and goals in more detail. Unitwi also lacked heartfelt moments, she just has Winter Wrap Up, that's it.

It was such hard insult for me that whole pony thing sizzled out after it. I only came back in 2021 for that 10-year nostalgia cycle and have been poni-poni since. I still spit every time I see twilicorn. They killed my favourite pony and brought some bland purple thing with wings to replace her.

Twilards are so painfully autistic it's damaged this fandom permanently. They're the whiniest niggers of all time that seethe around the clock about their completely, entirely baseless headcanons not panning out in the show. They completely made up the idea that Twilight is an only child because apparently characters are supposed to randomly bring up everyone they're related too unprompted for no reason so that lore autists get tidbits for their collection of meaningless trivia; this led to a tantrum over Shining Armor. Then they in their infinite shortsightedness somehow thing the literal Chosen One pony that Celestia has been clearly training to succeed her somehow won't take up the role of royalty and will instead do...fucking what, be some dusty librarian or mortal wizard who'll be dead and dusted in a few years? Lol

Fake, eqg cut season 3 in half, not a myth of "syndication"
>>
>>43059467
>this led to a tantrum over Shining Armor
Shining Armor by himself is not a problem.
Canterlot Wedding completely ruined the alicorn lore by pulling the third princess straight out of the fucking Hasbro toyline AND it introduced way too many things in one episode (new alicorn, Crystal Empire, Twilight's elder brother, the changeling race, Queen Chrysalis).
It was basically a foreshadowing for the Magical Mystery Cure.
>>
>>
>>43059469
>eqg cut season 3 in half
EQG is a direct consequence of Hasbro thinking that FiM is dead.
They wouldn't rush EQG or cut season 3 or introduce Twilicorn if they were thinking that FiM was on its peak.
They would go with the MLP Movie instead.

>Yes because being an immortal demi-goddess who will outlive your friends is retarded
Blame Faust for establishing an immortal ruler in the first place, nobody gives a shit about all the ponies Celestia must've outlived and yet she's the friendship master and last person to wield the elements
>>
>>
>>43059486
>Blame Faust for establishing an immortal ruler in the first place
Non sequitur. The immortal ruler who ruled for 1000 years doesn't have to give away they power to anyone, especially to some literally who pony when they have an immortal sister equal in power.
Unironically, the FoE plot with Celestia passing their job to Luna is more logical than whatever Hasbro made with G4 ending and G5.
>>
>>43059497
>The immortal ruler who ruled for 1000 years doesn't have to give away they power to anyone
Celestia herself said only Twilight could've defeated Nightmare Moon in the pilot and she couldn't do shit against Discord or Chrysalis in Season 2 because the Mane 6 inherited the elements from the princesses.
It's Faust canon that their time is coming to a close
>>
>>43059132
>do people still hate Twilicorn?
I still sort of do.
She was technically an alicorn by the time I got into ponies, but season 4 and EQG didn't come out in my region yet, so I only realized it when I saw an MMC re-run and hated it. The anger calmed down since then, but I overall disapprove the decision. Has the show ended much earlier (Either in season 4 or 5), I think it would've accepted the change better. Her being an alicorn for much longer that she's been a unicorn made it feel as if I was watching an over-stretched epilogue.
I tolerate the change at best and despise it at worst. Not to mention it is harder to find unicorn Twilight merch because of it. As if Hasbro wanted to pretend that she has always been an alicorn and not something Larson wrote because he thought the show was going to end.
>>
>>43059508
>only Twilight could've defeated Nightmare Moon in the pilot and she couldn't do shit against Discord or Chrysalis in Season 2 because the Mane 6 inherited the elements from the princesses
Yeah, I still don't see anything about "governing" or "country leadership" anywhere here.
Why should a sondercommando squad rule the country?
>>
>>
>>43059515
>Why should a sondercommando squad rule the country?
Twilight is a student above everything else, being taught by Celestia personally and the pilot literally has her take up part of Celestia's power
Celestia wasn't teaching her to be a soldier, she was teaching her to be a leader
>>
>>43059520
>Celestia wasn't teaching her to be a soldier, she was teaching her to be a leader
She was obviously teaching her wrong then.
And it's not even my opinion, it's the official Hasbro stance that they made canon in G5.

I am still mad.
I will always be mad.
On my deathbed I will still be mad.
When the seas heat up and the world descends into global catastrophe I will still be mad.
In the afterlife, when I get to the gates of Heaven, St. Peter and his angels will ask me "Are you still mad about Twilycorn?" And my reply will be "Yes."
When the race of man is no more and the ruins of cities have crumbled into dust I will still be mad.
Ancient alien civilizations will find the smoldering, volcanic corpse of the Earth and decode the ancient secrets of the Internet and they will find this post and so my eternal anger will be brought forth into the far-flung reaches of outer space.
When the last tiny flash of heat in the universe dies and all descends into entropy, my hatred will remain.
I am still so fucking mad I took the time write this stupid fucking post and it still doesn't make me even the slightest bit LESS mad.

How did anyone survive the first two episodes' lore dump establishing 6 main characters, a conflict between royal side characters, set in two settlements and a dungeon with its own laws.
>>
>>43059544
You have to remember that the way autism works is that they don't like change. Nobody had an impression of what the show was when it first aired so there was nothing to be upset with. After over a year of learning to love the characters, seeing things that go against their impression of what the story is will hurt autists a lot.

That's like saying "pedophile officials are a reality of politics".
Even if it's true, it doesn't make it any less disgusting and it doesn't mean that we should not strive to avoid it.
>>
>>43059603
I don't think it's disgusting to have inconsistencies when producing a show like this, that's silly. I agree that it should be avoided when possible but it is inevitable that, when producing something on a fixed schedule with a changing staff, you will end up contradicting yourself at some point. On a show like this it's unsurprising that it ended up happening very quickly.
>>
>>43059609
>I don't think it's disgusting to have inconsistencies when producing a show like this
It's not "inconsistency", it's Hasbro pulling shit out of their ass and forcing it into the show because some retarded marketer said that the toy will sell well.
Imagine The Lord of the Rings, but the second movie says
>by the way, we created another cooler design for the One Ring that we intend to sell as merch, so now there is a second One Ring, and there is another group of people who need to destroy it
That's what they did in Canterlot Wedding.
>>
>>43059615
Is there evidence that Hasbro also insisted on the new Luna design and completely ignoring the established lore of Nightmare Moon being an obscure figure in the series pilot? I'm asking this sincerely, it's possible people do know about this but last time I checked S2 included multiple examples of fucking up S1 lore without any demands from corporate.
>>
>>43059557
Where established begins and ends is completely subjective. Call Of The Cutie breaks lore regarding cutie marks. Party Of One breaks Pinkie's lore as the cheerful and brave one by giving her manic paranoia.

I hate. I hate it. I hate this. I hate Hasbro. I hate Twilicorn. I hate you for reminding me of this. I hate her stupid long neck. I hate her wings. I hate the way they made her boring. I hate her season 9 redesign. I hate her lack of bureaucratic training to run a country. I hate her running a country. I hate every missed opportunity they could have gone with instead. I hate that so many people prefer such a boring non-character over what was before. I hate the faces she makes. I hate her stupid fucking castle. I hate that all it took was to complete a shitty spell. I hate that such a good song was wasted on that episode. I hate that they destroyed Golden Oak Library. I hate that they forgot Owlowiscious for all but one episode. I hate that she clearly wasn't ready to be an alicorn. I hate that Celestia thrust this upon her without her consent. I hate that she'd outlive all her friends. I hate that it was all a "test".
I hate.

The new Luna design is explained by Faust as her recovering her powers. About the second thing, that would mostly file into the headcanon but I'd like to think after so many years on the moon, people forgot how it looked compared to the statues. But yeah, it is weird how there's a festivity around her yet nobody but Twilight recognized her.

>Party Of One breaks Pinkie's lore as the cheerful and brave one by giving her manic paranoia.
After so many years not being used to being her older self back at the rock farm, I find it in-character that she would go schizo like that.
>I hate that it made her forget her own birthday
While it is odd and convenient, Pinkie has always been a bit weird in regards to what she remembers and what she doesn't.
Personally I don't have much of an issue with Party of One in regards to Pinkie Pie "breaking character", I do think it depict Pinkie's inherent characteristic in the worst light.
I think she's best pony and I find the episode really entertaining to watch, my issue has to do with her rarely having to learn to be calm and stable about stuff.
Something Mentally Advanced pointed out in his last video that I agree with it is how the show has more of an issue with Fluttershy's general personality over Pinkie's, so they tend to teach the former to be more assertive but not teaching Pinkie to be less chaotic.
Personally, I can tolerate breaks of continuity as the episode is fun and the lesson given isn't absolute dogshit. And many time when people complain about "This is like that character", it is mostly a problem with them clinging to their head-canon rather than making any effort to understand what the writers meant (or the writers themselves not planning things in advanced). So many people got mad at Scootaloo not being an orphan simply because they were obsessed with the idea while completely ignoring thing the staff said.

I was 13 years old watching the pony show with my brother. When Twilight became an alicorn he was a bit begrudged but not by much. I myself didn't care because I didn't understand why adding wings would make anything worse, because I didn't know what tone and narrative was. Both of us just said "as long as we get more ponies it is fine." Around about 2016 both of us had utterely quit watching the show because it became boring and disingenuous to what it started as. I think it boils down to there being two types of humans, the ponderers and the enjoyers. In the Twilicorn case the divide is pretty obvious. I'll enjoy seasons 1 to 3 forever, and every episode after that I'll watch with a cynical but genuine smile because there is still some fun to be had, but what is there is so infinitely lesser to what we had previously and what we could have had. There is no debating this, because if you enjoy Twilicorn and see no issue with it, you will never ever change your mind on it, why would you deprive yourself of something you cherish just because some jaded ponderer thinks you should? And why would a ponderer change his mind because some cognitively offline enjoyer has the time of his life?
>>
>>43059173
Most of the shitstorms there look really tame compared to what the show ended up doing after Twilicorn. If Haber had become showrunners in season 3, his bad reputation with bronies would've been comparable to the one Todd has with classic Fallout fans. Instead, he's been relegated to an Emil: Either you don't know who he is or you do know and you hate him for what he has done. Weird to think he won best staff member of 2014, if only we've known.
>>
>>43059518
When it comes to the McCarthy era, I sometimes have a hard time knowing who decided what and what not. I know EQG was Hasbro's fault but there are conflicting stories about the Friendship Castle according to stuff I read in the 2019 leaks thread.
>>
>>43061178
Haber is easily better than McCarthy, there wouldn't be a Twilicorn nor Discord and Trixie being randomly reformed if he took over from s3. McCarthy butchered Twilight with Lesson Zero too and Cadance being an alicorn LMAO. McCarthy is the source of everything bad about the show. Haber saved the trainwreck for a few seasons at least, but unfortunately he can't just retcon all of McCarthy's bullshit.

It could have happened later in the series, involving more Princess-duty type stuff with Celestia and Luna. More interactions with ponies outside the M6 as Twilight socially branches out, delving into others' day-to-day life scenarios a bit. Let those character moments build off one another and, ideally, snowball into a grand finale. Just my thoughts.

Either all of them should have become alicorns, or none of them. It just feels unfair that Twilight gets this special treatment and ruins the balance between the Mane Six (it's no longer two of each pony tribe and even the show recognizes that Twi is now more important than the Remane Five). It's also stupid that she alone is supposed to handle the responsibilities of Celestia and Luna together all alone, when both were struggling with them when they had to share them (though the sisters retiring in the first place is just stupid anyway).
Speaking of becoming an alicorn... putting the finishing touches to someone else's spell just doesn't feel like a big enough accomplishment to become an alicorn. It should have been something more impressive, or the result of a lot of Twilight's achievements... the whole process in general should have been much more fleshed out and grand than what it actually was.
It also felt that Twilight kind of started to slowly fade out of the story after becoming an alicorn.
>>
It made her too powerful and reduced the sense of danger in her fights. The treehouse being destroyed was an even bigger disaster... Couldn't she just have the castle too, and have turned her old tree home into the Ponyville library at least? It was such a cute little building. But they went ahead and nuked it.

It is a tiny advantage over magic. The plot of the crystal empire had to throw anti-magic at her to stop her from doing anything, and how often does anti-magic come up? Sombra would likely make the crystal bars grow horizontally or pin her down if she had wings to keep the plot the same. I'm not saying it wouldn't feel a little more fair if she didn't get wings, but Twi already has the potential to do everything the remaining 5 can. 3d movement alone is covered by Rarity's gossamer wings, reverse gravity, teleportation, transforming into a stronger flyer than a breezie, and eventually Starlight's levitation. The elephant in the room has always been gifted unicorns.

I felt nervous when she fell down the stairs, I thought she was gonna get seriously hurt. And when they were in Cloudsdale to watch Rainbow (but only Rarity ended up falling). It just adds a little sense of danger that pegasi (except Scootaloo) and alicorns don't get in tense moments. It's slight yeah but it does have some affect.
