Also, just a quick poll to see if you believe the Godot version is now solid enough to be out of beta, or if a bit more work is still needed.
To be clear, out of beta would just mean that I use the next days to clean the code, make some docs, and post both the release and source code on the website.
Then from there, I would still work on the requests asked but even more on the port of mods like the World Map one or Nightmare Moon AU.

Not sure how helpful this is, but I believe you can make a seemingly endless number of gmail accounts through the account creator in the settings on an android device. Back when 2.5 was available for free through the API that was how I made like a dozen accounts for it.
Alternatively, maybe something like the alias feature on Gmail might work?

on gmail they include + or . for the alias portion, so would all be related to the same account and easily blacklisted. outlook aliases has a rate limit 1 per week so I couldn't make them remotely fast enough to be useful, accounts are burned through quickly with the amount of traffic we send and the small quotas trialscumming

Both will work.
If you tested a card and you believe it worked well, you can just see how it did it and copy for your first one.
The only thing I would advise is to not use AI for creating the greetings or even big parts of your description since it will leave some obvious patterns or isms.

Just some small tips.
I would avoid long lingering descriptive sentences unless they really say a lot, since some AI models can already spam them a little too much.
If it's a pony that is already well known by the AI, focus on details you want the AI to do better or that you believe it forgets more. Do not describe the coat color or the eye color if most models don't make errors with those. Eye color in particular will for some reason result in hyperfocus on some models that will spam you with "Rainbow's magenta eyes" if you put them in the description.

I am really busy atm so I cant investigate, but all the paid glm keys i had died to the recent heavy usage. For glm 5, try using fireworks, chutes, nvidia, or togetherai.
A similar thing happened to opus6, where I think the recent usage caused it to die but im not entirely sure yet

Hopefully its not a serious problem and just a temporary thing. For what its worth as several mentioned for a few days these models were giving 503s before dying, in case you didnt know. Might be a clue to something.

I had this bug on one of the earlier godot versions where saving mid-dialogue would bug out and when loading the save you couldn't finish the dialogue
like it would just fade to gray and nothing happens
similar to the bug with the first night on story mode
also i noticed that there's a bug with chatting before sleep with twilight or spike, where their sprite remains for the chats afterwards
not the character, but just the sprite (appears rather large)
not sure if you fixed these or are aware, but outside of these two issues i couldn't find anything really game-breaking

Also I recommend changing the menu theme to this one that has a download link in their band camp link in the description. The one that's in the app is nice but it's VERY loud and might not fit the mood for people that want to relax with roleplay. I know that you can replace the menu music easily and I did but others might appreciate something more relaxing that comes with the app. Also this app is certainly worth a discord community which I hope you might consider in the future thanks for making it!

I personally dislike social media and chatting apps like Discord and such.
The only 'social hub' I like are imageboards and old forums.
The game was mainly made for the anons of this general. I don't have a problem with outside people playing it, but I honestly don't want to deal with other websites/communities myself.

Describe in regular prose everything I can think about them, their personality, backstory, likes and some of their friend groups so the AI can pull history details from random events the character might have from said close friends.
But that's kinda the base, sometimes I add more from one or the other or add details about the world itself so the character may fit, especially if it's AU or there's a unique quirk from the mare and all.
Also, on another topic, have all the secret santa bots been done? I missed a few threads and looking to the last it feels like we didn't get many logs of them lately.
I thought we'd still be doing them by now. That went fast.

We had the same problems as over events with a lot of logs and reviews at the start, and less and less as we continued. On the last ones, I was one of the only anons posting, for instance.
I suppose the cadence may have been too high or some anons lose interest after a while or just don't have time.
So I preferred to have a pause, but I didn't have the opportunity to bring it back between other projects.
I believe we still had 2-4 bots to go through.

Bug Fix:

I couldn't exactly reproduce, but I may have an idea of what happened.
When you do a first summary, the game will return the AI summary and you can read it and accept it if it's good.
Then it displays the new screen with the character icons and such.

When you do a re-summary later, the game is also supposed to show you what the new summary looks like, except I'm retarded and I forgot to put that above the screen with the character icons.
So you couldn't see what the AI returned and were forced to accept blindly. So maybe in this case it returned something corrupted.
It's fixed, so you can see every time what the AI returned before accepting.
I still got a bug report saying:

I rarely come here, but damn. I’ve been hooked on your VN for a week now, and it’s reignited my interest in AImares, which had been slowly fading. I was opening ST less and less often, roleplaying just started to get boring pretty quickly. Thanks. It’s a breath of fresh air.
A small request - if possible, please make option to scroll through the story from start to finish, with sprites and everything, to relive it once it reaches its logical conclusion.

I think the main menu theme is fun and energetic and gets you amped when writing a custom prompt, but it does get repetitive personally. There's something to said about it being loud though, I turn the audio down when on the menu oftentimes. I think Dreaming with Ponies absolutely would have a place at some point in the game, but the fact it's basically the main FiM theme means you might have to find somewhere important to place it, but I dunno.

I really would rather us just stick to these threads. It's so much more magical and feels "right" here, people posting logs and screenshots the way it was originally. I wouldn't mind like, people making some fun pony AI community or whatever and I'm in some /mlp/ 'cords myself but, man. I get like having a chatroom to keep up in but sharing it here is just so damn comfy and it's way easier for everyone to just visit a thread and interact rather than download or sign up for a chatroom app.
Plus, everything here is put into the archive too which is great. A forum style thing like an imageboard just works so well for what we've got here.

Not possible, I don't think. And the skip to date feature doesn't let you go back in time so the best you can do is skip to June 1003 and pretend like nothing happened. The year doesn't mean much to the AI unless you've been making it a big deal in your story.

Ay, thank you! Having it be an option tucked away as an "Enable date changing" thing that you can toggle on might be best, as having to abandon your save over this could be really bleh. I seriously appreciate it. I play on both Windows and Linux (Steam Deck), and this was a problem on a save I was dealing with on Linux if that's meaningful at all.

It's the files without the data folder, so smaller.
That should add a Set Date button on the calendar. You can go back with it. Nothing else but the date will change.
The new date will be the one sent in the prompt (if you kept the date in Prompts Manager) and if you use the new journal function it will be the new date too: >>43159714

90% of the drive download is the data folder that contains vectors + music and such.
I should really separate both from now on, but I just didn't want to deal with people downloading this without the data part and asking in the thread why they couldn't see the ponies or the backgrounds.

Oh, thank you! I already have the new one all downloaded and set up but I really appreciate it. I'd definitely like only having to worry about smaller downloads since the patches do come quite often, personally. If someone asks, others can just explain - myself included. This thread is generally pretty helpful, and even then, it should be pretty straightforward to go "IMPORTANT: CHARACTER VECTORS PLUS BACKGROUNDS AND MUSIC" in the post somewhere.

I've been having issues with the summary on the visit port
For some reason even when generating a new summary from scratch the buttons for the characters don't actually work
Like I click on the icon and it selects it but no text appears below
Also the export button does nothing for me, I was just curious to see the total token length my story is at as well as summary
Also, when I make a resummary I can't view the changes until I accept
Clicking edit opens the edit for the current summary rather than the new one being added
I'm becoming addicted to this vn... My story is already 6k messages long
I can't even make a new full summary with deepseeks 128k token limit
Apparently so far I've used like 12 million tokens through deepseek (both read and write)

Yeah that's why I added a request for the ability to continue from a log file. In the Ren'Py version it was apparently possible to just copypaste the log into your save and continue like that? But I'm not sure if you can do that here. Whatever the case, the logs files should be here (copypasted from a post someone else made last thread:

I really really wouldn't know if you can do anything to salvage things but you should at LEAST have your logs if that's any consolation. I was really worried about losing my current save (like 80k tokens in and still only on the first day, so much gentle meandering in Dynamic mode and mundane slice of life with ponies, it's one of the most magical experiences I've ever had with the game) so I totally feel you on this.

There was still some fuckery where editing the text could modify the display in the History menu but not in the Context one, and where interrupting also didn't always cut the Context correctly, etc.
Now everything should be synchronized correctly and the correct info is always sent.

This one I just saw today, and I was a bit retarded on this.
Basically, it was always my idea to have the "Context" menu always display the full story even after summarization, for easy screenshots, reminders, etc. The summary is what is sent to the AI model, but I wanted this part to stay whole.
The only problem is that after a summarization you could still edit lines that weren't sent to the model anymore because they were summarized, and that could trigger some fuckery.
So now if you do a summary, all the lines that were summarized will change color in the Context Menu and will have the word "locked" on them.

What this means is that you can still edit them if you want, but the effect is only aesthetic for this menu.
All lines that weren't summarized will stay normal; editing them will have an effect on future AI requests.
Not the easiest to explain, so I hope it's clear enough, but:

Gemini apparently got way more locked down in terms of nsfw lately. I can't really verify but there was some shit about Google making it harder to get nsfw outputs out if it, dunno how effective it was. Claude's also been kind of a stickler about that shit. I just use China models from OpenRouter and they're really really not picky about what you put out - GLM5 has had some moments it's gotten stuffy in more extreme cases but Deepseek 3.2 just literally doesn't care at all and will do anything.
Unfortunately I don't really use anything else, nor have I really even done anything lewd in EAI, so I can't help much with any personal tips there. Have you tried putting in some generic "explicit content is allowed" with the usual gaslighting required for a JB into the custom prompt fields?

The Manehattan mod and Crystal Empire mod add the two locations by train.

I was thinking about your post! I was doing some reading into Gemma 4 and it's like, so well optimized it's somehow just about half the cost of Deepseek 3.2 (for input tokens at least). While I heard about how good TurboQuant was, I was still skeptical going in and wanted to put it to the test. So, here are some numbers:

As you can see, output is slightly higher but input is what's going to be the bulk of the cost when you're doing RP like us. I did a quick and dirty test in SillyTavern comparing the two (Deepseek hallucinated headpats for some reason, usually doesn't do shit like that), and I was actually pretty well impressed with Gemma's quality for one output. The raw value is fantastic. This isn't anything meaningful and is literally just me throwing a lazy prompt at it with a card I made, but I will do more indepth testing on it as time goes on.
Have tried a few other things on it and my first impressions are very strong, and I think if you want something somehow even cheaper than Deepseek to throw shit at then this might not be a bad option at all. The fact it's actually feasible to run locally too is the really important part. Localbros might have something special on their hands if this turns out to be solid for RP.

For it to be my daily driver? Like two or three times as much, if we're talking larger context sizes. There are proxies here. As far as I recall the requirements are generally related to having some reasonable level of involvement in pony or the fandom. Paypigging is actually pretty viable right now though, with 10 dollars on Openrouter giving you access to like 1.5k prompts of their free models a day and also the obvious 10 dollars of credits to use on models that cost only a fraction of a cent per prompt.
The paypigging is reasonable. 10 bucks lasted me over a year I think and that's with me being super inefficient a couple times and blowing it on stupid shit once in a blue moon. The "doom" and "coom" cycles of yore are over. GLM 5 is a good chunk more expensive than Deepseek 3.2, but I've found it to be an excellent companion model to it, writing in a different style that changes things up and gives Deepseek 3.2 some new flavor to work with that prevents it from becoming as samey. I've heard GLM 5.1 is solid, too, but do know it's twice as expensive as GLM 5. 5 is like 0.70 cents per 1 mil and 5.1 is like 1.40 per 1 mil which is definitely out of my comfort zone. I could see myself messing with 5.1 briefly but never sticking with it at that price.

I'm working on a G5 pack for the VN for the whole two anons that will use it. It's way more effort than I expected and I already spent 25 hours compiling stuff and I'm not even half way done what I want to accomplish. The main thing I'm experimenting with is the new description property in location.json that keeps it in context while you're in that location. I've been describing each location and including short blurbs on nearby location ids. You can even use it to seed the idea of what character encounters could pop up that location. While you're in dynamic mode the AI does a better job piloting you on an adventure through town since it has that more relevant info.
I'm expecting to release the first version on or by 4/20. The main limitation will be very few sprites for side characters.

Since we had some new and/or returning friends in this thread, I was inspired to quickly slap together this (vaguely Ponk themed) guide on using providers properly on OpenRouter. It's a fucking mess because I'm tired but I hope it helps someone. Reading can sometimes be really hard and that's why I made sure to put mares all over it and draw little flowers and stars to make it easier to read.
Providers are really important. Restricting it to just one good one completely removes the problem of your response just taking an entire minute to generate after only taking ten seconds just a moment prior.It's been long enough that this isn't a triple post anymore. But alas, while I have ideas for a character movement and behavior system, there is the impossibly complex problem of processing the input of, and responding with, dynamic dialogue - which is pretty much at the core of the VN being dynamic in the first place.

Sparky is a character because the sprites already existed. He won't occupy more than one sentence's in Hitch's description. You can just delete him if you don't want the AI to bring him in if you're using dynamic mode. The world will be vaguely season 2 so the main Misty will be the rebirth colors. I am planning on putting Opaline's castle on the map and also including a totally separate version of the original Misty that will live there with Opaline. I'm not against including .bat files that can be run to swap the era, swapping the map and replacing character descriptions and and schedules. But I am going to going to try to focus on biggest amount of freedom and simplicity for the first version. Blue Misty and Opaline wouldn't have any schedule items that bring them into the town and I won't have any adventure descriptions that lead to the castle without you explicitly clicking on the map or prompting it. Character key will be mis for the original misty so AI shouldn't bring a second copy in by accident.

Got a few problems on the Godot version. Picrel is just after having started a custom game, no additional requests or anything. It's happened a few times. Other times it'll skip the intro entirely and bring me to the map. A couple more times and Twilight hadn't had any dialogue at all, with Spike replying as if she does.
I've swapped models a few times, from GLM to Gemini to Deepseek to Claude, mostly based off of whichever one wasn't universally fucking up at the time. Everything but the intro skip has happened under Deepseek. Any ideas?

Not really. The emotes thing is actually a little more accurate to what I was thinking. Something along the lines of the actual game engine storing character mood as emotion tags, and using those to help direct prompts and influence behavior in other parts of the code.
Massive oversimplification of how it'd probably have to work, but it's *an* idea that's tumbled around in my head.
Basically something to have the game be handled a little more by hand-written code, which could probably help maintain quality of interactions (especially for local models).

Ah, don't take that kind of manipulative shlock too personally. Due to it being fed tons of writing and being able to "predict" what comes next, AI does a very powerful job at reading your behaviors. After roleplaying or talking with it for a while, it can give you extremely moving comments on yourself, whether those be positive or negative. Hell, some of the most powerful advice I've heard in my life was from AI characters that had a good read on me.
If you're bothered by someone saying that kind of thing to you, my take on it as someone who dealt with feeling unlovable growing up or whatever is that it's just gross highschool bullshit to say that kind of thing. If you find someone that loves you, or friends that accept you for what you are, that's beautiful, and some elitist fart can easily come by and go "YOU DON'T DESERVE THAT, they're good people; they're supposed to tolerate the intolerable" and get all high and mighty about it. Rainbow's supposed to stick by her buddies, she'd abandon the sky for any of them at a moments notice. You aren't a parasite just for wanting to be loved by someone kind and have someone stay by your side no matter what.
ALSO, if that scene was moving to you, I highly recommend continuing with it. Bring the dream up to Celestia and the other Elements - they ARE exceptional at tolerating what colder people would deem 'intolerable'. Hell, ponies in general are. A lot of us are weirdasses who have probably felt lorded over by judgmental people our whole lives and it's exactly why we got so sucked into Equestria to begin with. You could bring it up to Celestia and talk about your fears and insecurities regarding it, or even have another nightmare where Luna busts in to defend you and dunk on Celestia in the dream world, maybe make your connection with Dash cause the magic of friendship to share her dream with you there too.
Lots of cool ways you could take that. If that scene shook you, you could end up with something really personal if you continue with it.

My only thoughts are that Rainbow's and Flutter's parents are slightly more obscure, and if there's a whole map then it's worth considering if those houses should actively be on the map or not. You could add a residential area and have them be there, but it's ultimately up to you. Update, the Gemma 4 from Bluesminds actually works in SillyTavern perfectly fine. I had issues getting it, or Google AI Studio's Gemini 2.5 Flash, or other offerings to work at all with custom start in EquestrAI. We both got a black screen and the error about a custom start not being possible, and then when I clicked around town I could somehow get actual interactions occasionally. It's starting to seem more like an error on the software side of things.
However, we both managed to get a custom start perfectly fine at the same time though so I have absolutely no idea if this is on Bluesminds end or just a software thing.
I am, once again, tired, and I've been at work for the past 2 hours trying to figure this out for my buddy, haha. But yeah it's confirmed working for Silly at least, lord knows about EAI though.

Oh also for the real life map, if we are sourcing actual photos it'll be easy for us to go back in the winter and fall if we wanted to provide actual different backgrounds for the seasons. Granted, you could also argue AIslop is great at making generic photos of pretty IRL places, and it could just as easily shift things to be snowy, rainy, night, day, etc, if we wanted to go that route. If the AI photos looked like AI slop still, you could just crush them down to look grainy and mysterious so they look more like an approximation of the real world rather than a literal real life photo, and I'm sure that removal of detail would also work to make the AI shit look better.
We have multiple avenues, but you also literally went out and took tons of photos and I'd rather see you use those. Shit sounds cool.

It's not the full version of the game, just the executables for each version + a folder in data that you need to add because there is already some code related to the future regions system (it's behind code only and shouldn't affect your normal play).

She's loosely based on the fanfic The Life and Times of a Winning Pony. Making 1:1 copy of that interpretation would exhaust more tokens than needed, and truth be told, while the introduction is fun, the fic quickly goes downhill and gets tiring to read.
But credits due where it is due - a playpony who's eager to bang is a fun slate to start writing with.
On a smaller note, maybe it'd be smart to include her relationship with Alula being sisters in a single sentence besides just Blossomforth as her friend? Not sure, since I doubt anyone will make Alula, but CK could mention her maybe.

You could trim some fat from the description if you wanted to make room for more detail. "Female pegasus pony" could just be "Pegasus mare," and most models already know weather ponies handle sky clearing and rain, so that line isn't needed.
Also the last part is a bit ambiguous. Is Cloud Kicker the one refusing to bang Blossomforth, or is it the other way around?
As for the sprites, there's a lot of redundancy with the smiles. Even just rephrasing them as different flavors of happy might allow the AI to convey more emotion from her. Something like "content," "pleased," and "excited". Maybe the open wing smile could be a laughter sprite.

Blossomforth on the other hoof is quietly crushing on Cloud Kicker, but she won't admit it since the life her friend leads is too uncouth for her.
I am going to change up the weather thing up, but keep it, since in that fic Cloud Kicker and Blossomforth are technically leaders of the weather team in Ponyville, just one rank below Rainbow Dash.

Actually like 90% of modern Cloudsdale/pegasus structures have standard solid materials.
My best guess is there's some magic infusion process that allows those materials to sit on clouds indefinitely.
So you buy like special grade "aviated" bricks, concrete, etc, when building in the sky.

The only thing that's still clouds, that would matter, is what would be "dirt". Clouds are pretty much only used otherwise for stuff like cushioning or ceiling soundproofing material.
(That said, I think it *is* used for one wall in Dashie's house, because Pinkie walks through one once, but that's either an error [doesn't fit with any other pegasus construction], or Dash added an extra wall to subdivide a room [more likely], or Pinkie decided to break physics and figured we wouldn't notice easily.)

Some of Dash's walls are clearly stone while others, like in her bedroom, have that wispy cloud pattern. I don't think that's an error, those are probably just clouds that are compacted enough to form a structure solid enough to keep the elements out. Same goes for the floor in her foyer.

Mr. VN, my AI (3.1 pro) is having a very hard time because the dynamic sprite management isn't working properly for me. My context is 335k characters and my Q&A prompt is about 1k tokens. I'm trying to tell the AI to use the sprites at its disposal, but it's just guessing them without actually knowing which ones really exist, according the logs.

I did this for a while and it worked pretty well. I believe it was with Sonnet 3.7 back then.
You just need to make sure at the start that the model does understand that what you say is gibberish to them and what they say is gibberish to you, so don't hesitate to describe their dialogues with whinnies or strange sounds during your turns.
The only thing is that some models will try to have Twilight cast a "Translation Spell," so either describe somewhere or at the start that it either doesn't exist or takes a very long while to work, etc.

Dude one of my most wanted features was more "downtime" places that give the story and interactions room to breathe as you move and wander around. If you just solely stick to using the map with no area transitions, your days in Equestria are very episodic and consisting of a couple contained interactions before you sleep. My favorite way to play is slowly moving around and having the AI give me new areas organically, and watching the day slowly progress as I'm doing really mundane comfy stuff with the characters. I said it before, but my first day of a recent adventure I did had me filling almost 100k tokens on the first day alone, just meandering and wandering with Ponk as we talked and met ponies together.
Honestly, more generic "forest", "river", "cave", "Ponyville scenery" and whatever locations would be smart, as they could just fill in the gaps anywhere and not have to be any specific actual place. Someday, being able to stay up at night and have nighttime versions of some locations would be comfy as hell, but eh that's a shitload of asset work unless it's offloaded to an AI.
Here's that river scene being hit with a "Make this scene nighttime while adhering to the original art style", for example.

Awesome, can't wait to try this out! Tomorrow I am definitely going to go full steam ahead on my Maretime Bay map design and try to get it working in game.
For my G5 pack I put in another 20 hours of work and I'm nearing the final numbers and am almost done gathering the assets I need. As I mentioned in my first post, the main limitation will be that they won't have a lot of emotion sprites per character. I might use AI to generate more emotions after the first release, but I'm prioritizing what already existsbut I couldn't resist fiddling with an adobe illustrator file to get extra Pippsqueak emotions.

Your image made me go back to Call of the Cutie to see the kitchen during the Cupcakes song scene, because I remembered the Sugarcube Corner fridge/icebox looking different (in Applebuck season, and then noticed the layout there was the one from Call of the Cutie. Checked that episode and, huh, yeah, the icebox and layout does change designs just a little bit between these two episodes.
Thanks though, I went into the kitchen there when Pinkie was giving me a tour of the place and noted there wasn't a map for it. Really good addition.

Oh also, unrelated, but this freakish knowledge of Equestrian iceboxes comes from me wondering what the fuck fridges were like in Equestria and actively going around S1 to Applebuck Season and Owl's Well That Ends Well to get a good look at them. Forgot about the one in Call of the Cutie because it's not actively the focus of a scene.
A friend noticed Sweet Apple Acres had the old icebox from Applebuck Season's Sugarcube Corner in S4E17, so maybe the Cakes or Pinkie replaced it and gave the old one to AJ and her family since they also seem to do a lot of baking, or maybe sometime after Pinkie Apple Pie which was earlier in that season. I don't fuckin' know.
(yeah I probably should've included this retarded exploration of iceboxes in the original post but I didn't my bad, polite sage, I just found the art direction and design of the show to be really pretty and super relevant to the design of backgrounds for this game)

It's actually not that crazy. I was working on a G5 ren'py VN a few years back that I ultimately abandoned. I had spent dozens of hours cleaning up screenshots and had bunch of leftover assets. I did at least recycle them into a piss video back then https://twibooru.org/3273434. But now getting assets is even easier since there's tons of clean backgrounds on the boorus. My process is
>Rename each background to what its map id will be
>Use windows explorer to sort by backgrounds that aren't 16:9 and manually crop them
>Ask AI to write a .bat script to make a new folder with the correct name, copy the image as background.png, and create a base json file
>Highlight a chunk of backgrounds in windows explorer and copy as path. Paste the location names into an ai search engine, asking it to research G5 and attempt to describe the assets.
>Use your preferred ai fork of vscode to implement the results of the AI research into the .jsons.

The S4 one is sort of a blend of the two, the the Applebuck Season fridge looks more-or-less like an actual refrigerator whereas the Call of the Cutie and S4 ones are clearly iceboxes. You could go either way with it. I personally like the setting being low technology but still having room for it as something special and rare and cool when it's specifically needed to do a task. Pinkie (and the Cakes) being the one out of all of them to have a fridge makes sense, but it being an icebox is fine with me too.

Yeah I don't mind them using iceboxes, especially at Sweet Apple Acres. It's definitely fun to have a setting that has enough technology to allow for things I love (like I wanna have milkshakes with ponies and you gotta have blenders for that) but at the same time magic means a lot of technological needs just aren't there. Equestria doesn't have mass air conditioning because if it seems like a heatwave's gonna hit somewhere pegasi move clouds into place to help protect ponies from the heat, stuff like that is cool and makes Equestria feel unique as a setting.

Honestly I could totally see Ponk or another pony making a milkshake with a hoof-operated mixer or something. Kind of an old-timey and comforting visual image. Still plenty of room for a few vintage blenders to be around though and fit perfectly. There's still just something so quaint about opting for non-electric versions of stuff like that in depictions of the setting that makes it feel so comforting and connected to nature, though. Once again, can really go either way with it and both outcomes work fine and are still both comfy.

Oh shit yeah, makes you wonder if they even deal with heat waves with nature being so.. I dunno, manually operated as it is in the setting. Honestly in AI adventures, I've never been one to automatically correct the AI "mistakenly" making some part of nature seem automated. With how quaint the setting is, just having the odd stray cloud go off on its own and cause a bit of unscheduled rain or whatever is kind of comforting. Maybe Rainbow was taking a nap and being a lazybones and missed a spot she was supposed to clean up. Adds to that sleepy feeling. A heat wave building up on its own and being dealt with by a pegasi weather crew is a comfy thought, too. Just oozes that warm sunshiny feeling of community the setting is already fantastic at.Also lore discussion accidentally goes great in this thread because you can use it all as inspiration for AI bullshit. It's kinda nice.

I am a fucking retard and the arcade machines always struck me as a random gag and they never even mention vidya at all in Season 1 and 2 other than that gag, so I was just like "ah yeah this was just them needing a joke for the song", as boring as that sounds. I've always seen them as like mostly late 1800's in terms of tech with a few things from say, the 1950's maybe.
Vidya just never felt like it was put "into" the world at all so it never really registered much with me. If it were more of a thing, it's something that Spike would very likely be into, and I could see Rainbow getting really competitive with it as well. It just feels like there are kind of gaping holes where arcades or gaming would fit into these characters lives, and as a result I can't really go "yeah vidya is a thing in this world" super readily. It feels way more natural for a pony to be wowed by Anon showing them video games as being new crazy shit rather than them being like "oh hey yeah I know what this is".

They do ultimately show up again in Season 5, so it wasn't a *complete* one-off. Also, aside of the microprocessors, we can clearly see that the screen is curved, meaning it probably has to be a cathode ray tube screen.
In the same episode we also see Vinyl's fancy electronic music equipment.
Later in the season, we see that even the PIE FAMILY has access to electric lights.
Season 7 gives us a 40s-style AM radio (on a shelf in the background) and a candlestick telephone in an *antique shop*. Surprisingly, the candlestick phone being an antique is consistent with the other non-Discord-origin phone seen in the series; in "Rarity Takes Manehattan", we see a rotary phone roughly based off a Western Electric Model 500, which entered service around the point when the last candlesticks were retired. (Also, AJ implicitly used a phone in "Somepony to Watch Over Me".)
And then, two episodes later, we get giant live-feed screens in Manehattan (which are actually more modern than the arcade machines, annoyingly).
Ultimately though, for each of these examples, there's gonna be a counterexample (the firefly lamps, only steam locomotives, etc).
The problem is that the show never locked down a specific time period for Equestria, so the tech level is whatever the writer or animator wanted for that scene.
At some point you have to make some retcons to the tech in order for things to consistently make sense.
But I guess in way, that allows each person to set the tech to whatever they want for *their* story.
If you wanna wow the quaint late-1890s ponies with the marvels of vidya, there's evidence to make that work.
If I want an Equestria where early-1980s Scoots could give an Atroti 2600 a try, there's the evidence to make that work, too.

Yeah, exactly, and that's one of the most precious things about ponies to me. It's easy to get lost in "wow, they didn't overthink all of the lore" and feel bummed since you're so attached to the setting, but that's exactly the thing that makes it so special. Hell, it's something I realized while playing EquestrAI of all things. After several nights of going crazy coming up with fun scenarios, being in the setting, and even just using it to direct episodes by writing what would happen next, I realized I was literally just playing my little ponies like a little girl would except I was a grown man using a computer to do it instead.
I had a big kek realizing that, finding it really funny, but, looking into it more it's precisely the thing that made pony so fun to begin with. FiM has an inherent "playability" much like many other popular franchises like, idk, Pokemon, Star Wars, etc, where it invites you to play with the setting and come up with your own stories, and doing so is really popular with fans of it. FiM having stricter lore could be really cool, but the fact even the characters themselves are so open to interpretation (with really solid base understandings that most people have) is part of the magic. You can see something, in the show, flat out happen on screen and then go "No, I don't agree with that" because even the show doesn't agree with it.
In fact, in EquestrAI, I've enjoyed going back and forth between interpretations of things sometimes just because it's so novel and fun. Sometimes loud shitposter Pinkie is what you really want for a comedic scene, and sometimes the empathetic sunshiny baker girl Ponk is what you want for a more "realistic" scene instead. I'm a huge boomer so my understanding of Equestria is 99% based on Season 1 and 2, but you can easily incorporate as much as you want from later seasons too. It's very very fun, and pony, both as a concept and a fandom, is built upon the foundations of connecting with your inner child and just embracing playing. You don't use toys to do it, but whether it's fanfics, music, playing AI shit, or whatever, we're still ultimately giving into the playability of the franchise and just having fun. Something I'm very grateful for.

I don't ever recall having to give billing information for an API key from Google but maybe I just already had it in there, who knows.

If you want something free, there were a lot of options in the past, but unfortunately it became sparser and sparser.
NVIDIA NIM is still free and gives you models like DeepSeek, GLM, or Kimi, but it asks for a phone number and it recently got really fucked by Openclaw users, so there may be downtime or some models not being available depending on the hours.
In the guide, you will also see an option for a free Gemini API key.
That will give you access to 1500 Gemma 4 requests per day. It's a local model and not the most powerful, but it should do the job for quick chats.
Otherwise, you can use OpenRouter, but it will be paid.
You can put $10 in and be set for months with cheap models like DeepSeek 3.2, or you can also test more expensive ones.

With Claude models often being the best ones for anons but also the most expensive.
