Kimi 2.6 is dumb and feels like an employee trying to clock out as fast as possible while doing the bare minimum.

In addition, it sits there and thinks for fucking ever and becomes the most pedantic piece of shit. It spent three minutes thinking, produced 4,408 words, 25k characters so it could half heartedly shit out 503 words, 2,787 characters. Much of which was shit like this:

Wait, I should double check: "Celestia moved to the sideboard without a word." Ponies don't have hands, but she uses magic. "She poured water…" with magic? I didn't specify, but it's implied she used telekinesis. That's fine.

"returned to kneel beside him" - ponies don't kneel exactly, they settle onto their legs. "folding her legs beneath her body" is the classic loaf/cushion position for ponies. "returned to kneel" might be slightly humanizing but acceptable as a term for lowering her body. Actually, ponies "kneel" by folding their forelegs. It's fine.

I could not switch back to glm 5.1 fast enough.

I won't go calling it an Opus killer, in fact I'd take even Sonnet and especially Gemini over it any day if it's not coming out of pocket. But if you want to try to make it work, testing different presets might get you more acceptable results, if you want to experiment. Otherwise, GLM is probably the best alternative at the price point.

Do you have a good suggestion on a preset? It could very well be my issue, I just find that it feels bland and dumb.

Just as an example, I have a character I like to use to test out models. On good models the character will write... for lack of a better term, good. The character will ask what your name is, how you ended up in your position, etc just like anyone would in that situation. Eventually she'll ask you to join her unless you overtly insult her or show yourself to be repugnant.

For kimi it just goes "Hey, you should join me." Doesn't ask your name, doesn't ask how you got there, and in terribly bad swipes, it just automatically uses your persona's name despite the fact it shouldn't know it.

Even worse, sometime I'll drop clues in my response out of dialogue for the model to pick up on. In this case I mention that the player has soft hands and that they're more suited for sewing and cooking. On a good model They'll say something like "You don't seem like the bandit type." On kimi it just flat out goes "Oh you're a cook and you sew. Well you should join me." like it's trying to get through it as fast as it can.

If it's canon characters or characters that the AI knows, you can just go with a single character card and just "invoke" the others in play.
If not and just two or three characters, I would use the description.
If more or if you know every character won't always be present, then Lorebooks.
You can also go with a hybrid where you place just enough information in the description so the AI always knows a character exists and can call them, then more details in a lorebook.

I don't use presets; I just fill the chat enough with my inputs and what I believe are alright outputs to 'poison' the context and have the models continue in the style I want afterward. That works well for some Claude Opus models.
These are only quick tests on a single output, so there are a lot of other things to test, but overall it's not bad at all. Swipe variety is quite good; on some swipes Trixie is really offended like this one, in others she's upset but is quickly reassured, and her actions also vary a lot.
There are signs of LLM writing, but it's not a total slopfest like some other models are, I would say.
Like some other Deepseek models, it seems to like always using "She X" as a narration after dialogues (which is a very common sentence structure, so fair enough, but some Deepseek models only know to use that and spam it too much), but it's not always, always the case, and if it becomes a problem I suppose a line of instruction could do.
Didn't check the model card, but when I tried to lower the temp from 1 to 0.8, OpenRouter told me to fuck myself, so maybe it's fixed too?
