as did many others, including me, but unironically that was the problem - many fans had moved on and accepted the new sound with more pop and electronic stuff, with ATS and LV, so when they got a harder album they were perplexed and felt cheated even. a lot of the negativity comes from that. it still went platinum afaik and critics praised it, but many people barely checked it out "oh look a new LP album - meh".

another thing I've often heard is that it had no smash singles. even long time fans can't name songs from it. yeah keys to the kingdom is amazing, but it's niche, it's not a radio hit, it's not widely accessible unlike say faint or one step closer.

imho if it had come out as a third or fourth album it would have been a bigger hit
