The live 3 is a really fun tool if anyone is thinking of investing. After some youtube academy it takes maybe 5 minutes to get some drums down with some chords over top. Even though the MPC can do everything the 404 can do, I still prefer using the 404 to sample the MPC. Would be nice to get the 404 sound back into the MPC but there's feedback since the MPC is receiving the same signal it's sending out but with fx layered on top

i like it too, i haven't had time to learn to use it, but i hope it's good like v1 (i've heard some things but mostly the dust must have been settled, like the manual mode being incorporated as an "addon" to synthv2 and her voice, which sounds good but people misinterpreted bad midi polished songs as how she really sounded like). so like i told u i've yet to learn synthv2 and her voice but i hope with the addition of the unison mode the workflow will be smoother, who knows.

You 'ave no idea who you talkin' to, son.
If you think switchin' scales and keys on the fly on some device is remotely as practical as just playing chromatically and knowin' all the scales like the back of your hand, you be the man with a moun'ain to climb.

It invokes a whole story if I focus, sometimes I reap (without drugs) into dreamland and just live another life for a moment through music. Music genuinely is magic, plebs have no idea. It does interact up with the inner fundamental workings of existence and taps into primordial energies from beyond.

-_-
There has to be a way to turn monitoring off or to some other output that isn't running into the MPC so you don't get feedback.

fwiw you are wrong and the other anon is right. instruments where you adjust something so the notes are all in-key are baby training wheels for people who don't know how to play music. it's not a cool feature it's a way to onboard retards as customers

transcribe a song and ask yourself the same question. what key is the song in, does the melody stick to that key. if it doesn't, what are the harmony and melody doing? it helps to know a little bit of theory and what scales are commonly used and how and why to transition between them
>>
>>
>>129468192
I figured out how to get the buzzing to stop but when I get the sound recorded in the MPC it is layered and sounds weird so I'll just stick with using the 404 and the Mac with the mpc. Not a big deal cause I have both the 404 and the clean MPC tone through my mixer but if I was outside of the home id only be able to get the 404 sound.

Nooooo!
Are you going to make me buy an MPC Live III and SP 404 mk2 just to mess with this? I'd maybe be okay dropping $500, but the Live III is damn near $1700. Shit.
How about intentionally routing only certain sounds to the SP404 to then go back to the MPC? Like... you assign the sounds you want to add 404 effects to to outputs 5/6 or 7/8 on the MPC. Have you tried something like that?
>>
so the live 3 has this link feature with ableton and it works on my pc but not my mac checked the privacy settings and everything is updated maybe i doubt its bc its the pirated version cause it works fine on windows but who knows

Why are so many tracks like drums or bass stacked in modern pop songs? For example Bury A Friend by Billie Eilish had like 14 drum tracks
I'm new to DAWs so I don't really get it since most music in that past just used drums, bass, rhythm, leads, keys etc
>>
>>129475880
workflow can be weirdly easier dealing with audio files and individual hits on separate channels. in most daws you can edit in the audio waveform clip itself, stuff like clip gain, speed/pitch. also for the sake of more easily processing each individual hit. it's also a way to circumvent using a piano roll if you don't like using them for whatever reason.

>>
>>129475905
>>129475926
So it's not like an overlay thing it's just easier to work with different tracks for different parts of the song?
That makes sense
>>
>>129476073
it can definitely be an overlay thing too. one of the benefits of a daw is being able to layer every aspect of a hit as surgically as you wish ie have the attack of a percussive be one sound and layer in another sample for the release or sustain. lots of people have one kick for the 'hit' part (punch) and another for the sustain/release that's more subby for thickness. even in traditional recording a drumset for example, similar principle to mixing in different mics where each part of the kit has its own channel. and you'll often have two mics on the snare (not a drummer mind you) one for the actual snare part and the other capturing the 'body' of the snare.

saying music is magic is like saying an apple is a fruit.
aeromancy (music needs air) and geomancy (it happens in a room) are the two fields related to music..
saying music is magic is very novice thing to do.
better term would be a mystery art or something. agrippa says even the elements like music.

yeah do the little resonant filter sweep on the low mids to get that DOOOH sound
the other guy that wasn’t bowie/eno that everybody forgets was there joked about that one harmonized bending the fabric of reality or whatever.
that plus obviously don’t be afraid to drive it pretty hard
maybe we should ask chris johnson for something like that since he’s clearly maybe a bowie head after releasing the station to station inspired reverb…,,,

what are we thinking i added vox and did my best to mix with my sony headphones. sorry for the long intro and tail probably gonna cut that down
>>
>>129475937
listened on my mixing headphones, they are almost identical, maybe a slight (and I mean very slightly brightness/gain increase in the second one), but otherwise, there isn't enough difference to properly choose one. What are you trying fish for here in terms of feedback (i.e. what are you hearing as different enough to want to ask for feedback)?

Sadly it sounds like dog shit with the bit of vibrato I added to the main riff (not in the original) and I'm going to have to rerecord that. I'm kind of happy with the bass though.

also, what's the cheapest way to reduce noise/vibrations coming from electronic drums? i live in an apartment, and don't want to disturb my downstairs neighbor. i was thinking of playing on my bed, not sure if vibrations would transfer to floor that way. i don't really want to build a tennis ball riser if i don't have to
>>

>>129479573
i feel like this is what the insides of an autistic femboy brain sound like, not bad but interesting to me. vocals need to be a bit turned up in volume, but just a bit. otherwise i think if this is just what you're going for, then it's good. and it needs an interesting bridge too, that could give it more movement.
>>
>>129479396
>https://vocaroo.com/1cTm6NwURdKd
good, i always try not to be cynical and listen to the songs in the board like a normal listener would with his radio, but there was a moment i realized the guitar choked and it kinda felt that it wasn't going nowhere until you got it again. i like this song but it would be better without that choke. even so who cares, i liked i.
https://vocaroo.com/1mlgZB2fGR73
i feel like this is a draft, unlike the first song this is a little less finished and you want me to comment if where this song goes it's worth going further? i would say so, but if you're already giving your energy to the first one, i would prioritize that one, then give this second one more thought. if polished like the first one then i would bet it will end up sounding better.
https://vocaroo.com/1mlgZB2fGR73
this sounds fun and feels like something that could be in the background of an adult swim commercial. if you don't want it to be like a commercial then put some vocals or something that makes it go somewhere. but until now it sounds ok (because i don't know if that's where you intended it to be. because if you didn't, then it needs more polish.)
>>
>>
>>129478424
sounds really good, finished. also i don't think the sony headphones matter that much, i'm hearing this on the hd600 and sounds great (maybe you mastered making music in them, who knows. but it sounds great)
>>
>>129477474
>https://vocaroo.com/1lsp2kaxXibZ
sounds good, i wouldn't worry about the drums. remember that all that matters is that it sounds good. if you hadn't told me that i wouldn't even know it didn't had real drums. normal people don't care about those things they just sit back and enjoy the music and this one is one they could easily enjoy doing just that. i like it
>>
>>129478266
They are basically identical outside of eliminating some, in my opinion, overbearing low mid frequencies to make the snare less pang-y and overbearing. Listen to the last double time part and be mindful of the snare.

It sounds beautiful my only criticism is the loud boombox type bass, but that type of bass has normie appeal, normies like it for some reason to show off how annyoing and rumbly their cars can be. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
I prefer softer bass. I fucking hate that type of bass in a car, too many bad experiences with normies where they cranck the volume to fucking 30-40-50 and nobody can fucking talk.. just listen to BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
You know what im saying? But yeah the song is good.

arturia keylab 49 mk3 or novation launchkey 49 mk4?
ignore the price; money ain't shit.
keylab
>nice wood panel sides
>pitch and mod wheel directly left of the keys
>touch sensitive knobs and sliders so you can check parameters without moving them (as opposed to needing to hold a shift button on the launchkey)
launchkey
>4 more pads but 2 rows of 8 instead of 3 rows of 4
>GForce BassStation VST
>>
novations from what i remember have light and cheap feeling keys arturia prob best bet. anything with a fatar keyboard would be ideal if you're looking for piano like action. some of the shittier plastic midi keyboards have sorta sharp jagged edges that can really interfere with their fluid playability.
>>
>>129487927
thank you. i was just watching a video where the guy was saying the novation keys were clicky-clacky and he wasn't a big fan of that.
the arturia has semi-weighted waterfall keys, so not very piano-like, but that's fine, i think.

What's the most basic retard-proof video that will teach me how fucking drums are supposed to work? I'm trying to create basic patterns in Reaper, I've had to throw out the entire song's worth like 4 times now because it never matches despite me trying to follow beats, and it's making me want to KMS.
>>
have you tried playing with velocities? what are you using for drums? try experimenting the blends in your drum vst ie you can typically adjust the blend of room mic sound with direct mic etc. i don't have a video but it would help if you specified what is bothering you about your drums in their current state.

Make some Industrial EBM sounding song with lyrics cursing Iran that would be dope. Or calling for revolt. You gonna see that the Iranians are gonna be blasting that song as their shithole Dictatorial Theocratic Islamist government is dethroned.

its pretty ethereal and reminds of ps1 menu selection music (in the best vibey way possible). Personally, i think the bass is competing too much with other things in the low end, so it doesnt sound tight to me. I think if you worked at that, it be a real trip.
>>129491761
its fun, itd definitely vibe to it on the dance floor. I do think though that the wide bass hurts it a bit. To me a hard saw bass would fit the aesthetic more, as it would fit the style of the synth and vox.

Also your kick is too wide for being the bass element, you need to tighten the kick low end to mono, or throw in some sort of driving sub (the current bass you have feels like an octave too high). Plus that kick is weirdly off kilter to one ear, so it feels odd when listening on headphones. The ideas are there (esp @1:20) but i think it needs work.

guitars and doublebending synths (it changes filter, keytracking and filter gets modulated) has still some potential.
i went to a few psy parties (the girls are pretty hot ngl) and the only memorable set was a guy in a ac/id shirt doing 2 hours of guitarish/synth borderline metal/rock crossover.
he didnt play on a big stage though, like this niche-niche but i cant really remember what the other guys did, just too generic.
check out beatport it recently got a psytrance section, sounds all the same to me.

NTA
it started out as dj tool. it was never meant to be a full daw, it was a thing that djs started using when they wanted to make live shows.
back then, you had the vinyl fag, the cdj fag and the ableton-laptop fag.
the ableton-mac-laptop-fag never caught on becuase the normies really dont care what you do.
-> they pivoted into larping as a daw. just like bezos almost fucked up and then stopped being a book-only store and sold everything.
it is called "business-pivot". it comes from the startup-culture. it is outlined in "the lean startup" by eric ries
it comes from germany like all many other daws. bitwig is german, cubase is german. i am from germany so of course i use fl studio.
so in germany we dont really think ableton is a good daw. i have been there when it got big. it is a glorified dj tool. electronic music production isnt complex so ableton can do it just fine.
the stock eq is shit, it has i-toddler written all over it. you can not customize anything. abletontrainers are gay berlin people who will rape you with flunitrazepam if you book a training lesson. THERE ARE ABLETON-TRAINERS.
of course in america everyone thinks highly of ableton but in germany most pros use cubase.
cubase was always the daw that the guy got "if he is serious now" and everyone was like "wow that guy is using cubase, it is very complicated he must read the manual - impressive".
you dont need to read the manual for ableton, because it isnt complex. you need to add a utility to polarity shift your shit.
bitwig is the even more retarded ableton sibling that lacks even the most basic functions like step recording.
actually all daws are pretty bad if you are not hypocritical about how shit everything is. the only good daw is reaper but it is awful because it takes so long to set up.
in the end none of this really matters, all the daws are good enough and a guy mixed skrillex tracks in ableton.

this was informative and well put. i like it because it feels intuitive and favors instant stream of consciousness idea -> translation. i also like how it allows for a level of aleatoric randomness in its sample warping algos and the whole workflow favors a daw as an instrument/co-author approach. i'm sure many of these things are rooted in its origins as a live performance tool. reaper was my first daw and from what i understand its similar to pro tools. never felt as seamless. i switched over almost immediately after playing around with ableton. for creating complex midi instruments using a single midi track to trigger theoretically infinite number of sounds with instrument rack i find there's a lot of possibility. the max for live integration is pretty unique to ableton too, though from what i understand fl has similar tools where you can do modular fx stuff. ive been curious about fl for sure, seems like it has gained footing in capturing people whose production styles would normally be presumed more ableton suited.

FL is very comparable it just takes a little longer to do everything. It's easier for me to setup complicated routing/processing chains in FL/patcher personally because I'm a very visual person and I started in Reason, but it is just slower having to "wire" stuff together. I'm a big fan of a few of the stock FL plugins as well like the clipper and you can get some really crazy metallic tones out of some of their flangers and shit. All of that being said I still feel kinda retarded for not switching to Ableton.

You mean you have to actually learn how to do things instead of clicking a buton to do it for you
>>
>>
>>129510235
I have no stake in this argument, but having a whole workflow be accessible in a few clicks compared to doing everything from scratch manually is just sensible time saving. There's always cases where fundamentally knowing what's happening and exactly how you can manipulate sounds works in your favour, but you can you can also just let something do the work for you and still get the result you need, faster. Too many clowns out there treat making music and sound design like basic survival skills, as if one day someone is going to come along and whip eeverything out from underneath you and you now have to make music from scratch using only the most basic of basics and your wit and instincts alone.

another benefit of ableton is that it favors poking around and learning in a self taught fashion. you can become proficient at ableton pretty easily without the need to refer to any docs, manuals, yt vids. it lets you learn by doing more efficiently than something like reaper. would rather get an acceptable starting point for a piece of music in 2 clicks rather than 5. if i want more muh character building user friction i'll just play an instrument.

I own Bass Station II, and can't say really anything bad at its keybed. Novation customer service is allright, after asking out where I can buy spare parts they've send me new send of pots and pitch/mod wheels across Europe for free.
This said, I'd look up if there's a 5 octave version - you'll very likely feel constrained at attempting to play using both hands. I don't think you'll get much advantage by getting Arturia keys, besides slightly better build quality (wood sides don't really matter if the casing isn't metal).

Appreciate the feedback anon. Making things go somewhere is by far the hardest thing. Partly because I don't get it. Partly because I like slapping in that randomness and just letting it sort of morph around in the same space for variety. Both generative patches and more playable ones are fascinating to see.
Got an old Launchkey Mini which frankly has a bit too few knobs on it. Still fun to play around more yourself.
Haven't tried Cardinal, not exactly sure what the difference is be to be honest.

ableton/bitwig do effects chaining much better than other daws THOUGH and that's a big part of modern sound design
reaper can do it too but it's a bit more complicated. if reaper had effects chaining mod that makes it so you can just drag and drop effects into the chain like a drooling retard with minimal worrying about routing then id probably switch
just love the ability to group effects and split them into dry/wet chains and delta with utility

https://vocaroo.com/14fhp6NJNN5i
^^kinda cool, fiona apple-esque vibe, but i’m just curious about whether the verse vocals should be a DUET where the verse vocals are split 50/50, like this?: https://vocaroo.com/1bZLUBAEdf7y
but then idk i think the song might lose its volcel daniel johnston grievances vibe, so idk
also just postan the song we’re gonna work on after THAT, which is a fairly straightforward skate punk kinda thing https://vocaroo.com/19JGPi1RJbPZ

impossible to say with no context.
in general: no.
i have heard it done it very well in some classic rock albums though- fairly static and minimal arrangements.
imo this is more likely to walk most people into very poor/boring use of reverb.
>>
and also
you should be considering for what purpose you are bussing:
just for organization? okay sure.
are you compressing or otherwise “gluing?”
you’re gluing those separate spaces to themselves and having their volumes interact together, but in the overwhelming majority of cases you should be looking to glue it with what’s actually being reverbed for any typical use-case.

I have been writing music for a long time, but with a piano roll. I would like to get into composing with trackers as there are so many portable ones (picotracker, m8, LSDJ, etc) but I struggle with the workflow. For those of you that do both or have moved from piano roll to tracker, what helped you smooth through the transition? The biggest thing I struggle with is writing beyond a phrase. Like with a piano roll, I can see so far ahead and look at my entire melody as a whole. With a tracker phrase, I get 16 lines, and I struggle. Thanks for any help, anons.

You lying little worm. You wouldn't be squirming around in a 4chan thread begging for spoonfeeding if you had the basic reading skills required to RTFM.

there’s no airwindows manual, and the blurbs are short
i know this is an empty instigation, but to be fair, i must inform you that airwindows plugins take a very high iq to use to their full potential.
each release is invariably characterized by several idiosyncrasies (both good and bad) that require both a trained ear and hand hands on experience to identify and then utilize to their full potential.
i wouldn’t expect a peon shitposter like you to have any concept of this though.
