Although British music is bizarrely good all the way through the late 20th century there are two obvious periods of British music which stand out above all: the 60s rock era and the late 70s/early 80s Punk and post punks era.

The late 70s/early 80s may genuinely be the most creative yet accessible popular music ever made:
>The Clash
>Joy Division
>Gang of Four
>Sex Pistols
>Wire
>The Fall

Literally could go on but can't be bothered

But the 60s is just so kino. The music is just so damn good and so damn listenable, going from the early pop songs into hard rock:
>The Beatles
>Rolling Stones
>The Who
>The Kinks
>The Animals

So which is it /mu/?
And does any other era of music come close to matching it?

90s with triphop, jungle, shoegaze, and Britpop would be my pick.

00s landfill indie are special too but the UK was on a mega run in the 90s

The greatest thing about Europe is they have no bankers or corporations telling musicians what they can and can't play. They will always come out on top.

American punk/new wave (Ramones, talking heads, television, the cars) mogged British punk/new wave (clash/Duran Duran).
Brit bands were better in 60s doh.

The fact that you call it British new wave and cite duran duran as an example immediately displays you have no clue what you are talking about.

All those American new wave groups are really not in any way creative or do anything new. Compared to the British bands at the time it is pathetic to even compare the two

I mean who do you want me to mention - Culture Club? All the other Brit new wave were pretty much one hit wonders in USA, ie, Spandau Ballet, Talk Talk, etc.

But Blondie and Cars had lots of hits.

lol stop being a faggot. We are talking about good music not who made shit loads of money. Just look at the list I posted ffs. There is no comparison with those bands to Blondie which was just pop music of no substance

The Clash were literally called 'the only band that matters' in the US. In fact they were more influential in the US than they were in the UK.

England dominated popular music in the 80's in a way not seen before or since.
