They should've stuck with this style, and just evened out metalcore:pop balance to feature more pop. "When the Sun Sleeps" was the golden standard and they did go in that direction on Safety. But then they ruined it by adding this extra element of urgency and anxiety. It spoils everything and makes Safety feel so immature and annoying. Changing had this wistful, liminal feeling. Stylistically it was more grown up, even if the songwriting was crass. We never got the Underoath we should've had. Maybe one day I'll do it myself.
