I like it more than Hospice. Familiars isn't bad either, and I really wish they hadn't taken a break there.
I prefer this version of French Exit though.

>And the rest of your band was more involved in the songwriting this time around, right?
SILBERMAN: Yeah, definitely. Hospice I really wrote by myself, and had the band members come in and play parts that they were writing. But this was us writing these songs together, in our own studio. Really letting things develop naturally, and turn into whatever they were going to turn into.
I liked Hospice, but I also liked how the band was sounding less and less like a solo project as they evolved. Until you get to the Green to Gold album where almost everything becomes underwhelming. If they had follow Familiars up sooner it'd be a whole different career.

wow i haven't heard this in years but i forgot how great it is. maybe the Antlers' best honestly, le cancer wife concept album is cool & i respect the high concept & emotional depth of it, but they were onto something more strikingly original & atmospheric sound-wise here

It's always been their best. You can find similar sounds in parts of somgs on the Familiars album but that mostly has it's own sound.

I saw them live and thought it was great but that was back when Familiars was new. One thing I didn't know before I started this thread is that The Antlers (singer Peter Silberman and drummer Michael Lerner) very recently did a collaborative live show with Okkervil River. I'm not kidding, this shit just spawned out nowhere.
