george mogs on this album. taxman is a confident rocker. love you to was absolutely revolutionary to put on a pop lp at that time. i want to tell you is beautifully demented and far ahead of its time.

I think it's where Paul's oddness really comes out. Eleanor Rigby is such a massive song. Got to get you into my life is the beginning of an era, it is not, in any way, a Beatles song. And then, my favorite, For No One. Also not really a Beatles song, and a precursor to Paul's solo career, full of paulisms, like the slightly demented accompaniment, surly chord progression, pompous bassline which works up to that supertonic chorus.
I don't think Paul mogs on this album (I'm Only Sleeping is absolutely incredible) but I think it's the album where paul truly came into his own. Rubber Soul still feels largely collaborative, the work of a John-led group.

Idk, Dear Prudence and Sexy Sadie just might be the best songs in the album afaic
still, pretty close, and although John was doing great here, you could say Paul was doing the heavy lifting for most of the album

Well everyone seemed to agree Happiness is a Warm Gun was the best on the album. Everybody also seems to agree Oh Bla Di oh bla da is terrible. Also as bad as wildy honey pie is, I prefer it still to "why don't we do it in the road"
meanwhile, nothing comes close to dear prudence's grandiosity, and none of pauls songs to me seem as catchy as simple ditties like "cry baby cry"

I never understood why Dear Prudence is so beloved, just seems like hippie dippie shit from John that slows the momentum down. I like Cry Baby Cry better than Sexy Sadie. It was the beginning of heroin Lennon

Happiness is one of the best songs on the album and the best from John, but I think Martha My Dear is even better. The piano melody is top class, and I don't think Obla Di is that bad. It's balanced out by John's Bungalow Bill

Dear Prudence starts off so mysteriously and slowly and then by the end it's just grown to this massive thing. It's really a very subtle song in that regard. That's why I like it anyways, and it very well sets the tone for the entire album, going from this high energy opener to something so hypnotically and sedate. It's part of why I love white so much; it just never lets you relax.

Agreed. I love the Beatles. Check out the Starry Ladders for a Beatles safe space.
