What the fuck happened to this board? There is no fucking way, it would've been like this in the early 2010s. Instead, I see kpop thread after k-pop thread hitting bump limit within an hour. What a fucking dead, garbage board

yep it's fucking over. what a total shame. really hoped there'd be at least a small amount of hype considering how monumental this is

I came here to hopefully find more speculation and discussion around BOC and this new project, but I literally found more discussion on fucking reddit. Jesus Christ. Literally move to Reddit for your music discussion.
>>
what did you want to say about it?
theres no info, no date, no confirmation even. no new track or even snippet sample of music. theres literally nothing to talk about. except I suppose people could post "maybe album soon" over and over again
Im not a teenager any more. if theres a new album, great. I'll listen to it and probably enjoy it when it comes out. I'll probably also come here to say what I think of it and find out what others think, but Im not going to sit around pulling my chicken while I wait.

I must admit the whole glitchy VHS ARG is lame af
watching that video I half expected to see grainy black and white footage of some twat in a plague doctor costume standing in an abandoned house with broken toys on the floor and all that crap, then I'd really believe we were back in 2010
>>
>>129912958
That’s the entire point of an ARG, though? It’s just another form of marketing. Generates hype for the upcoming album that spreads through word-of-mouth online. You don’t have to pay attention to all of it
>>
>>
>>129912303
I was here in 2013 and there was wayyyy more effort by /mu/ into solving the Tomorrow's Harvest ARG. I remember how hyped people were when Reach for the Dead dropped and then the disappointment when Tomorrow's Harvest dropped. It's a good record but anticlimactic given the hype they'd built up over the three-four month pr campaign (too subtle)

From what I gather, random BOC fans are getting VHS tapes mailed to them. Probably fans who bought their music, a lot of their music. I suggest keeping an eye on BOC's subreddit
>>
>>

>How so?
Do you really need to be told that BOC are influential? They've inspired other electronic musicians like Four Tet to fucking Radiohead. Their sound is unique, very distinctive and highly acclaimed, of course they're gonna be influential.

I made a thread like 6 months about the kpop bullshit and was promptly deleted and banned kek
Jannies are either in on it or chan culture is just that bad now
Either seem highly likely, perhaps a combination of both
I am genuinely excited, I made one of the threads you mentioned
Tomorrow's Harvest was good but felt like a very one note depressing end to an otherwise dynamic catalogue
Like it could be a soundtrack for a non existent movie, if that makes sense
>>

>like Geogaddi
It's funny you say that because I'm hoping for something more acoustic like The Campfire Headphase
Or, if they go the spooky route something like In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country
But I would appreciate anything at this point, really
The tape distribution being limited to first party purchasers is disappointing but understandable
They have no way of knowing I spent a shit ton on a Japanese copy of a CD with a bonus track sadly

>>
>>
>>129920463
No, I actually will come here, and guess, there's nothing you're going to do about it. Redditors are faggots, as clearly shown in the screenshots, yet how are these faggots more interested in discussing music than the "based" people here? What does that say about the people here?
>Oh wow, the most boring and overrated band in the world! How cool is that?!
They are huge and BOC inspired them. BOC are very influential. I do agree that Radiohead is overrated tho. Doesn't change that fact
>>
>>129912393
>go outside, the internet is evil
That's more of a noided deathgripsian message, too focused on personal agency. BoC is typically more nihilistic than that. They tend to focus on big picture stuff. Global warming, nuclear holocaust, the supernatural, etc. I don't think they believe it matters what we do. Tomorrow's Harvest and Geogaddi are artistic gestures that I think corroborate this. Obviously some of their stuff (e.g. Campfire Headphase) is tinged with a streak of hope but generally BoC is quite reclusive and bleak.
>>
>>
>>
>>129912303
It's probably because this is such a boring way to create hype around an album. Didn't they do the same thing in 2013? I don't really have the energy these days to play games for three months straight before hearing any kind of music, I'll just wait patiently until the album comes out and I can listen to it.

Funny you say this, Tomorrow's Harvest literally begins with a movie style jingle. That's the basic read that it's supposed to be a soundtrack to an unseen Threads style movie. But the tracks are recominational (unsurprisingly for a concept album about atomic war), so the "dual albums" (track 1-9 / track 10 - 17), reverse order and "paired" sequence (1, 18, 2, 17, ect) are also legitimate ways to listen.
I think a lot of people write it off as being bleak or one note because it's varying the same theme with a slow tension ratchet and a pretty overt narrative, no mysticism, just the looming anxiety of war and then death.
New Seeds is one of the coolest things they've made ever though, imo. Like the track implies a tense effort to preserve life, presumably with a seed vault, hence the staccato fast tempo guitars that sound like telegraphs. Then like 2 mins in, you start hearing all these choral voices that have really cavernous reverb tails, the kind of which are only possible in long deep spaces, implying descent into the vault but because it comes after "sundown" and just before the apocalyptic "come to dust", it always struck me that the implication was that the choral voices are supposed to be screams, smoothed out into angelic cries by the reverb tail of the vault's absurd depth. (the same voices reprise after the artillery drum loop in "come to dust" btw)
idk, part of me thinks that maybe the problem with Tomorrow's Harvest is that it happened in 2013 when the optimism of early millennialism hadn't quite worn off. Maybe if it dropped now or even like 2018, it'd be hailed as their best.
>>
>/mu/ is so dead not even new BoC gets the board excited beyond a few unlucky souls who are still stuck here 10 years after its death

So this is a better time than ever to engage in a fun little ARG that a band put together.

I'm huffing as much hopium as I can here, so I refuse to believe this new marketing campaign is going to result in anything less than a full studio album with 95% new material. If they were planning on releasing a new compilation of their older and unreleased stuff, they could announce it somewhere on an official social media account and it would be huge. People would get excited and there wouldn't be any backlash, but creating this pretty big marketing campaign, sending out a dozen VHS tapes to people all over the fucking world, you have to come in with the real deal or there's going to be a lot of backlash.
Having said that, I've lately been going through their unofficial and unreleased stuff and I'm hearing a lot of stuff in there that I think can be brought up to par with their usual quality with some additional tweaking. Take this track for example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7MNoZQOCvQ
I am unsure whether or not this actually was even made by BOC. This feels more like a Seefeel track in some way. It's very classic 90s IDM scene though.

>>129956392
That's generally how first impression goes if you go in with high expectations. Same thing happens with movies you watch that have some legendary status behind them, that first impression tends to underwhelm, then you rewatch it and you appreciate it for real
>>
>>129956417
nta but the thing is that they aren't really that much "better" than other artists you can find out there. It's just that their place in the history of electronic is already cemented and everyone refers to them as some of the GOATS so it's easy to pick them up from a place of ignorance and immediately vibe with it. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm just saying that personally as someone who listens to a lot of other electronic music and doesn't really understand the hype relative to some other stuff out there.
Like this EP for example I would take any day over BoC, but does anyone outside of some heads even know who Ike is? Not really, he doesn't have that "legendary" status to make people revisit the music or give it a deeper listen than they might at first.

With the tapes and the art evoking images of varies stages of their career I can't shake the idea that is going to be a big career reterospective thingy. not a traditional best of, but a collection of all the unreleased and rare stuff in one place maybe? Which honestly I wouldn't even be mad about. TH works as a final album from them, and a rarities comp would be a nice coda.
Would Warp spare the expense for such a campaign if it's not an original new work is the main thought against it.

No they're hardly plants. They have a very original sound that evidently resonates with a lot of people which is probably why they got big. Like I'm not going to lie and say they're unoriginal or anything but what I WILL say is that sometimes going back and listening to some of their stuff later it isn't THAT interesting. They just have a very original voice and sound. And that's not a bad thing, it works for them and it's a good sound too. It's just not for absolutely everyone

Regarding this anon's comment, >>129957304, just how expensive is it to create and send out dozens of VHS tapes all over the world and put up advertisements in London and LA?
>>
>>129961701
just goes to show how fucking good they are that people's top 10s are so varied.
>>129963648
yeah more elsewhere in London too. Hope to see them in Asia too in classic BoC fashion.

i do quite like tomorrow's harvest for what it is and i think it's a theme they needed to explore more than they had previously
that said, yeah, return to earlier more psychadelic stylings would be nice
truthfully i'm just glad to be getting anything at all

Went to check to see if there's any posters up in Manchester but all the posters up in Northern Quarter is some shitty Bring me the Horizon hype campaign, which incidentally I know what it's about but I'm not telling ; )

chinese zoos often see their animals die prematurely because patrons throw so much trash into their enclosures. they had to put up signs and many of them had to redesign their enclosures entirely to address this.
under the one-child policy it was extremely common for people to just straight up kill their infant daughters and eat them to dispose of the bodies.
japan and thailand have perhaps the most widespread csa problem in the world.
north korea is north korea.
there are no super clean advanced societies completely free of sin. people are savages wherever you go. humans are animals after all.
>>
>>129967182
you get far less petty theft in those places, I'm not saying they're all utopias and don't have their own problems Certainly the poster wouldn't won't be stolen within a fucking day in Tokyo or Shanghai or wherever.
>>
>>129967203
>you get far less petty theft in those places
even that's not really all that true except for maybe north korea but that's only because you're under such strict surveillance and the punishments for minor infractions are so severe that life itself is barely even worth living at all.
but china? japan? thailand? there's petty theft everywhere

I like when they channel BOC.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vnn7qiLpK-U
>>
>>
>tip-hop beat starts
>somewhat cool synth melody comes in, but then never develops and just kinda repeats until the fade out one minute later because none of the tracks go anywhere and the longer ones are usually only longer because of some random noises to make it "interesting" and "deep"
>a multitude of about half cool half cheesy samples sprinkled throughout the tracks
>interludes that are mostly boring or end right when they might be getting interesting and seemingly exist just to fill out the space in between the tracks to make it a full length LP
>vibes that lean heavily into nostalgia factors
and there you have it, a BoC album
>>
>>
>>
>>129967929
this. For a takedown that boils down BoC it actually sounds good lol.
>>129967040
nice
I'm really hoping they become less fussy in their old age and just put some of this shit out. It's a little weird how track being leaked almost burns it in their eyes.

They've only been spotted in 3 areas so far, in areas of London where you would expect to see advertising like this, and at least one of the others is in a residential area where there's no ad space. I guess we'll see in the next couple of days

I've seen very few music publications talking about this marketing campaign. I've seen a small heads up article from Resident Advisor, but nothing from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone or NME or anything like that.

I hate how these look. They also contradict the aesthetic and themes of the tapes for me. The tapes are much more subtle compared to these posters but they are still very stark compared to the BoC I've seen so far. Still hopeful for new/old material though.

goes it without saying at its reddit but it's so dumb assuming they've done this based on just the 3 points. I highly doubt they're going to/have put posters up in residential areas in South London plus in fucking Canning Town/Millwall lol

I've never been able to make it through the entirety of SAW 2 before I swear. The first track is nice but the second one... I really really really do not understand it lmao. The melody just isn't appealing AT ALL and considering that there's hardly any interesting sound design or production going on I just have no reason to like any of it. I don't really remember much after that since I always end up turning it off to go listen to something else but skimming through some of the tracks I guess it just sounds like very mid and repetitive haunted house videogame ambiance? For me that is just not it man..

The faces are in focus, but the eyes are possessed. This can turn out interesting. TH was too bleak for me, and now the world is even more shit than 13 years ago, so this can end up dark as fuck. The world is dark as fuck at the moment.

What are the chances it's dogshit? I'm just asking here. I mean, I don't want to be a party pooper, but it has been a very long fucking time since they've done anything substantial. Do they still have it? Imagine if it's complete shit. I don't want to, but the possibility is there. No?

>I wonder how much money these guys have made
realistically not a lot. Like you said they're not that popular and their last live show was like 26 years ago, and tours where artists make the bulk of their cash.
>>
>>129988847
From what I understand, not a lot of people know who they really are, where they live etc. They must live "normal" lives, but I doubt they actually have to work regular jobs. I just cannot comprehend how you can release so much great music and be still pretty well known, but having to work a regular job. I'm pretty sure they signed some pretty massive contracts with WARP that secured them financially for life.
In my headcannon, they just live in a regular house with their families, but don't ever have to work. Literally just do whatever in their free time
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>129989201
You don't think they signed a big record deal or various deals resulting their original 4 full studio album run from 1998 to 2013?
Since they're back after so many years now, don't you think they signed a new deal for this upcoming project? I could imagine them going on a new run of projects for this potential contract they just signed.

You're massively over estimating how much artists make off music. Pic rel is quite favorable as far as deals go, and probably comparable to what BoC has. Better money is in live shows and merch and BoC barely ever bothered with the former.
