Airport security was private before 9/11. It was still annoying to get through but the people working it weren't nearly as lazy and drone-like as they are under the TSA. I wonder if at some point in the future there will be a push to re-privatize it to save money.

I'm sure things have changed in the last couple of years because of the war, but Israel was always thrown up as a comparison to the US for airport security post 9/11. There was way less bullshit to go through for passengers, and their safety record was way better. They achieved that through the power of racism. No, that's literally all they did. They only had pretty light checks, and then gave security agents the latitude to walk around and pull people that they thought looked shady. And all with them being probably the one nation on Earth people would want to destroy more than the US.
