Most even semi modern cars actually have pretty decent sound dampening. Combine that with the radio and some highway noise, plus the fact that loud engine noises near your car are completely ordinary on the highway, not enough to immediately assume an aircraft. Buzzzzzzz, check mirrors, that's funny where's the truck-BOOM.

That said in this specific instance, the NTSB prelim report said the aircraft lost both engines. The props are spinning from airflow but not under power. Probably a nearly silent glide.
