I am probably gonna get my first motorcycle soon. I have narrowed it down to a Yamaha R3, Ninja 500, or Triumph Scrambler 400X. Thought about a Ninja 650 or R7 or maybe a ZX4RR but I figure I will drop it at least once so I'd rather do that on a cheaper bike while learning.
Probably gonna just get one new, I can afford it.
Any advice on which one you would pick? I mostly am interested in street riding, maybe a decent bit of highway stuff and possibly some cross state roadtrips.
>>
I had a crash last January when commuting to work (literally as I was turning into the parking lot). Ever since, I've been afraid to lean. I'm a newfag at bikes, how do I get better? I can still do my commute, which is the main reason I have a bike, but I'd like to do longer rides.
>>
>>
>>28853337
Depending where you are r3 are everywhere used but a majority are missing lights, ninja 500s are theft prone. Figure out insurance rates on sport bikes first, it might end up pushing you to the triumph for a few years till premiums dip. Premiums on new rider sport bikes are 60 a month and up with only actual cash value coverage instead of full. I have to have a separate theft insurance to keep prices down.

>>28853339
I know the feeling but the want and feeling to lean more came back. I just go through sharp city corners slower now.
You were wearing gear right?
>>28853374
How fast did you go and did you lean away from the bike or into it. You should be counter leaning in parking lot speeds.

>>28853367
Yeah, I like the idea of cheaper premiums on a smaller bike to at least figure out if I will even enjoy riding a motorcycle. I am leaning R3 right now purely based off looks.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>28853390
True, I'll keep that in mind. I do like the summer a lot more, I can tell the tires stick to the road a lot more.

>How fast did you go and did you lean away from the bike or into it
About ~15-20mph, probably on the higher end desu. I leaned in, for sure.

Being a 125cc sissy i know my place, 600cc+ riders fucking HATE little bike enjoyers waving at them kek
>>28853379
Fucking based and 125 pilled
>>
>>28853419
R3/mt03 are good just keep in mind you absolutely can just repair one of the many that broke the turn signal housing.
>>28853476
Yeah, you probably did the same thing I did when I low sided my rebel. Thats counter steer speeds still and you should be going slower if you needed to lean that hard in that kinda space. The only bike I have been able to lean in and figure 8 below 20mph was a grom(passed msf like that).

the added weight would also improve stability and grip
Yeah, the industry is definitely in conspiracy. This is way to beneficial-yet-straightforward to not be a thing, especially in a world of relatively easy construction (there are such things as diesel supercars and petrol trucks...) with obscure companies everywhere.

If you wanna do long roadtrips get an SV650, perfect bike.
You should get a used dualsport to learn on, really streamlines the whole learning process imo and dogshit cheap for insurance. They also love being dropped and crashing, rode one at a track day a few weeks ago. Lowsided and high sided it, both times I picked it right back up and it fired up and jetted off.
Horrible for highway tho lol

I am thinking of taking a welding class to make my own swingarm/mount combo to swap predator engines to scooters. I think even the diesel ones would fit since you just bolt down the bottom. I hope to make a sellable product out of it. If not, at least I'll finall know how to weld.

Never thought I'd comsider buying a jeet bike, but that Himalayan 450 been on my mind. Seems like a great light ADV bike, handles drops very well, and reasonably priced. I like the Ibex/MT 450 too, but I'm more worried about the long-term reliability with those ones. The bad thing about not buying Japanese is the depreciation hit is going to be brutal in any case, whereas I can buy a Honda and not lose much if I decide to sell it later.
Damn, I wish I wasn't a poorfag and didn't have to think so hard about a few thousand dollars.

Today a doctors visit in the morning, then was hair and nails, then I bought her groceries for the week, then I brought her to see my aunt where’s she’s staying over a few days.
Everything that has to get done in her life gets done on the weekend because her oldest daughter (same aunt) still works, so she can’t be driven to appointments and such during the week.

I think the scrambler is really cool, it was one of the 'kus i was looking at when i was searching for a new one myself.
I think you should sit on all of them and see which one feels more comfortable if you plan on have big trips on them but if you really prefer one over the other don't let that stop you! i did a 10h highway trip on my first bike, a 350cc air cooled sumo and while it was a miserable experience it wasn't because of the bike itself.

I spent a summer in the UK for school and I don't think it rained more than a couple of times. They were in the middle of a "heat wave" that was perfectly pleasant to me. I would have loved to have been able to rent a motorcycle when I was there. I'd have seen the entire country on the weekends. I was broke as shit the whole time, didn't have enough to rent a bicycle.

Can't decide between a used F800GS or an Africa Twin.

My brother originally wanted to sell it to fund his boat, but he said if I wanted to keep it, he wouldn't sell it and would let me have it.
but I have been fence-sitting on it for too long, so he ended up just buying his boat anyway.

It used to be British but what happened was they were producing Bullets on license in jeetland so when RE proper went bankrupt they just remained the last men standing.
Generally outside of Triumph, the British brands were taken over by jeets.
The Chinese do similar things with Italian brands. You get motherfucking obscure shit like SWM bought by Chinese and they start selling their motorcycles and scooters with those brandnames for some reason. I don't know, Shineray seems as exotic as SWM to me but Chinese seem to have obsession with Italy for some reason so maybe that's what's happening.

where I live, if you leave any brand helmet on your parked bike and look away for 5 seconds then its gone
i looked at the saddle bags options but most arent big enough for a full face helmet and these bag/box cost a fortune for some reason
with ADV I could easily fit a topbox to put shit in

Lads, my dear old goldwing has developed a coolant leak. I cbf paying goldwing prices to fix it. Time to get a new bike.
I'm thinking RE Himilayan or CB650R or CL500.
Kind of want to go do some adventuring in the desert so leaning towards the himi.

I must admit i wanted a RE guerrilla but the local dealerships where asking so much for one, OTD price i could buy a barely used z650rs for that and it didn't feel right.
caballero 500 and speed400/scrambler400 was another pick but couldn't find one locally unless brand new (and they are even more expensive)
again i was really surprised by the timing of finding this 'ku, i didn't even knew about the 3rd gen pilens.
Also the best thing is that since it was so cheaper than anticipated i decided to gift my mom her own beta with the money from selling the sumo,i would have left her mine but the sumo is a bit taller and she wanted a dual sport.

only tangentially related but it reminds me of what happened with denim and japan. after occupation there was an obsession with americana. as american manufacturers moved on to projectile looms that could produce fabric faster. japanese mills imported the old shuttle looms that american factories were getting rid of. the lower throughput of shuttle looms and focus on craftsmanship has led to japanese denim being some of the highest quality available.

True and I have. but I usually don't have the patience to do deal with some stuff. Escpecially when I can see in my mind an extremely simple thing to do something but some designer thought it was too simple. For example, the valves that I did. There is an acess panel for the valve cover which many other scooters make it big enough to make valve adjuatments. But Kymco? Noooooo. You have to remove half of the plastics just to get at the floorboard so you can finally have space to remove the valve cover. Even scooter guys cannot escape the engineer menace.

I just put a clean, damp cloth on the visor and let it sit for a couple hours or whatever. It softens up all the dried bug guts, then I just wipe it clean, then dry with a different soft cloth.
The same method works for my windshield.

The big bottle on the left for my visor and the little bottle on the right for my glasses which don't get cleaned as often as the visor. I clean my visor every day.
I recommend both because:
>it just werks™
However; the Oxford stuff can't be used with my glasses because it will scratch the Reactive UV coating on the lenses, so if your sunglasses have a similar coating then I wouldn't recommend the Oxford stuff. That's why I use the Zeiss stuff on my glasses. But it's way more expensive.
Microfibre cloth, ofc.

Thanks anon, i may look into it
I have two speedos currently, my original and the one from the donor bike
Ive had my speedo apart before to stick on km/h stickers (as the bike reads in mph only and the MOT tester threw a hissy fit because "What if you take this little 125 to Europe or something??") It passed MOT (annual inspection) for the previous 18 years with this speedo but suddenly it was a "major fail" that made it unsafe, the fucking twats
Quick check on ebay and all these speedos are fetching £50-£200+ so id rather not rip it apart and risk wrecking it
Might just stick the 36k speedo on and call it a day, it will save a lot of fucking around, original speedo died at 25k and ive put around 2k+ on it since then
Any idea on how much a garage would charge to roll back the mileage? It can be done with these old style tumbler meters but again my retard monkey brain would more than likely snap these brittle fragile plastic tabs and such kek

So you plan to use your phone's GPS as a speedometer? I don't see why a QUADLOCK™ wouldn't work but you might need to connect your phone to a powerbank because having the screen on permanently will drain your battery.
I've used various forms of QUADLOCK™ mounts on all of my motorbikes and bicycles and I have zero complaints. Maybe a bit pricey but they work well and have options to fit pretty much every bike.
