JUST LOOK AT THESE
>>
car design truly peaked in the late 90s/very early 00s (coincidentally also the era with these clear headlights)
>>
Still a great looking car 30 years later
>>
modern projector arrays can look pretty decent in some contexts, but I largely agree
>>
>>28861097
That one is a tiny step in the right direction again but yeah most look so disgusting now
>>
>>28861097
this kinda thing is absolute dogshit though
>>
Yellow accents really looked nice in them too
>>

>>28861097
don't know. to me those always look like aftermath of a crash when some casing is broken and you can see the bare electronics. do not want.

I don't understand why normalfags love these eternally angry car designs
>>

I meant everywhere. I need to get more sleep.
>>
you hated them at the time but now you never see chromed rear light clusters and you miss them
>>
>>28861091
Idk they all yellowed and fogged and look like dog shit.

The painted Ferrari and Corvette headlights, pop ups, 60s lamps, and the early 00s Audi LED are the best in no order.

The worst though is angry squinty double slit shit every car does now

some anons say current car design is part of a broader demoralization thing and to be honest it's getting harder and harder to shrug off this theory
>>
>>28861131
>Idk they all yellowed and fogged and look like dog shit.
That's not a fault of the design but rather the shitty plastics used. If they still used glass this wouldn't happen
>>
>>28861131
>The worst though is angry squinty double slit shit every car does now

Yeah, that fucking retarded fad of
>le squinty LED daylight running light
>"""""""""hidden"""""""""" sorta blacked out actual headlight underneath it where foglights used to be
>>
Even the old fresnel lens headlights look nicer than what we have to deal with nowadays
>>
>>28861143
>le squinty LED daylight running light
Those also look so incredibly racist I'm surprised no one has yet complained about it since everyone is scared shitless of being considered racist.

need to pre emptively intimidate the other normalfag tailgater. the result of a low-inhibition culture
>>
>>28861147
it gets even funnier when you realize that most of those cars are aimed at the chinese marked since that's been the greatest developing market for the last couple years
>>
>>28861092
Cars like these looked adventurous and thrilled to go with you on a journey. You'd feel happy to see them sit in your driveway greeting you in the morning and nowdays it's all "ah fuck, it's monday again"
>>
>>28861153
Good point. It'd be insanely funny if some chinksect finally noticed this and went "rook chang west make fun of us" so every new design suddenly got rid of them.

i've seen a lot of xv10s with foggy yellowed headlights, but the ones on my car are made of glass and look brand new.
>>
>>28861091
Frogs still do neat headlight jewelry from time to time, even if this one came from an ugly crossover thing.
>>
You reminded me to actually use the rubbing compound and polishing compound on my headlight(s), today, to see if I could clear away that oxidation on the plastic.

Result: "eh."
It helped one and it half-worked the other (worse off). It just means I should actually sand away the problem, next time, repeat, and get some ceramic coating. Oh well.
>>
ay RICER here I like when the housing matches the car body y'all niggas know I used that "projector" part in the underground games man
>>
>>28861091
Ironically when those were popular everyone wanted black housings as the "sport" upgrade
>>28861107
Hell even on those I remember clear markers always being a thing people wanted to do.
Now everyone just misses it because everything is thin, edgy, and way too fucking bright.

The light output was pretty shit though, which is why the started getting replaced with projector style and eventually HID. People have also been putting LEDs in them now which worsens the problem of light spray.

Pic related is a car from my country that was notorious for the terrible output and spray from the headlights.
>>
I wish we could return to glass headlights. I refuse to believe it's a safety issue these days. Bigplastic™ hates the longevitychad
>>
>>28861533
no lie if I had a car with these exact lamps I'd cum all over it at least once
>>
>>28861533
True it was already a hint of what's to come but at least in that example there's still TONS of nice reflector chrome visible and overall it's just a really pleasant mix between contrasts. Main nice thing is that you're still looking at a shiny reflector and the black didn't take over completely yet.
>>
>>28861232
very sweet lookin
>>
>>28861165
>headlights so obscenely bright they have to tint the housings from factory
>>
>>28861721
Thank you. I am glad I don't have to deal with maintaining plastic headlights
>>
>>28861545
looks like it's lighting up the sky too lol
>>
>>28861545
seconding this. every car i had with halogens they all were shit illumination wise. they shine bright, but halogens light output gets absorbed really easily, it doesnt proejct or illuminate properly like headhlights should do .they act like your nightstand lamp for cozy nights. its not bad, there are just better alternatives. tho i still like halogens. theyre cheap to manufacture, easy to adjust, easy to replace (basically plug n play 99% of times), bulbs can be bought literally anywhere and theyre cheaper than a pack of cigarettes. they have a reasonable lifespan as well.

taillights too

>>
>>
>>28863278
in the uk scene all of these style
>>28863263
were just called lexus lights because they're the first car that we ever saw that style on

not sure if they were defacto the first, maybe other JDMs started the aesthetic and the IS200 jumped on but they were definitely the first car of that type to be officially exported
>>
>>28861128
Altezza lights were impossibly tacky and still are. they looked like something you'd buy at Pep Boys.
>>
>>28861533
That style was absolute peak. The best of both worlds.
>>
>>28863502
The IS200/300 is just the export Altezza.
>>
>>28861128
Wrong. I only like mirrory front lights but chrome tail lights always look like damaged to me.
It's fine when the red is really translucent and de-saturated but they do have to have color.
>>
>>28861552

Glass gets hit by a rock and cracks on the highway.
They need to use a nicer plastic that doesn’t fog or yellow
>>
>>28863612
luv me cheap glass sealed beam housings
that being said, at least for toyotas, their 80s and 90s glass semi-sealed units had pretty thick glass and could withstand some pretty big impacts.
>>
>>28861232
>foggy yellowed headlights
probably aftermarket replacements, mine also came with glass lenses from factory.

Bongs of that time were simplistic people too myopic to categorise all the philum of JDM like the American contemporaries and their min-maxxing autism. No one knew what an Altezza was. They knew what a Lexus was and they knew that it looked well mint and that they had to make their Vauxhall Corsa look like one cus that'd be well sick bruv.

i somehow actually like both in their own ways, however i think the stock clear tails make it look more distinct/fresh and clean. the red colored pieces actually make it blend with other makes/models and basically the design becomes boring/repetitive.
>>
>>28864388
Honestly, that's fair.

Wait, I just got mandella'd hard. I always thought that Lexus always had fully red taillights, and clear ones were a JDM thing, but now you're saying that they all had Altezza lights and now even the one in Most Wanted magically transformed to have clear lights despite me distinctly remembering that not being the case. It's like a black line on Pikachu's tail, I swear, it should be there but apparently it never has been there.

if you squint really hard - you could even mistake your thumbnail for volvo s60 1st gen. but once you pop them altezzas you can already tell its lexus. just another proof that clear tails in some cases make a certain make/model to have more personality being instantly recognizeable.
