why doesn't anyone make affordable small two door cars anymore?
Yeah they were slow, but they were lightweight fun to drive, economical, and easy to maintain.
Now everything is a bloatbox appliance, or outrageously expensive. The only thing that comes close would be the BRZ/86. I hate this timeline

He mostly has from what I understand, though carmakers are hesitant because a new administration will be here in 3 years.

Probably because it's not affordable.

The rest of the world is still fucked. America doesn't build global cars

God this shit is retarded, something the size of a Honda Fit has to make like 70mpg by 2035 to not be fined.
>>28861473
It was a half measure because a repeal is really hard to get done, so now the amended fine amount for failure is $0. However it'll be just as easy for the next president to change the fine amount back or even higher, and building enough cars for a model launch takes time and is expensive if you're not sure you'll be able to sell them at a competitive price.

Everyone is gonna blame Muh Gobamentor some other mythical boggeyman like cash for Clunkers like the not_subtle /pol/tards they are, the reality is that the only people buying new are old people.
And the people who buy new are the ones who set what the market is, dealerships dont offer you 1.9% 0 down deals on CPO, or outright used cars, that's the manufacturer trying to get you to buy new, and when the people who buy new keeps going up and up in age (right now the average new car buyer is in their 40s) they're not gonna want some fun and exciting thing to drive, they're gonna want a quiet cabin, soft ride, fancy tech gadget nonsense, room for extra people (cause family), room to carry shit (cause groceries at the bare minimum) and a raised driving position for the ball and chain, when she's not buying her own car.
And people wonder why the market has been cornered by CUVs.

Ah another one of these fucking threads... Let's go over our elementary school economics again... People don't want what you described therefore making said thing would be uneconomical. Also what the fuck is your excuse for not building a 1500lb kit car?

Or maybe it's the thousands of dollars in CAFE fees, R&D, and bullshit emissions gimmicks added to anything that's not a crossover or truck to the point that a crossover is the same price or cheaper as a comparable sedan?
Never.
Picrel, crossovers are classified as "light trucks" so they can get away with 50% worse mpg without adding CAFE fees to every vehicle.
"Consumer demand" my ass.

Oh fuck off with the cafe bullshit. Higher trim vehicles have always sold better than base models in America way before that shit came into play. Even with CAFE we have had plenty of dirt cheap ($8k new) cars that nobody bought. People buy trucks because they're fucking good and better than the other options. Price a sedan the same or much cheaper as a pickup and see which people buy...

Nah, you're full of shit. Your argument was that it was free market, but thousands of dollars added to the price of one type of car is not a free market.
I hate driving large cars, they are worse in every way.
