>90%+ supply is domestic
>very stable prices
>significantly reduces emissions
>can be used in existing combustion engines
>your residential gas line can be tapped to fill up at home overnight
Seems like a missed opportunity.

If it were trivial to convert an existing engine, you'd see a good supply of bolt on kits. You don't.

needs huge 200 bar gas tanks.
Which corrode and have to be replaced in fixed intervals (plot twist, they are nla!) - VW in particular seems to be a real basket-case here, haven't read as much shit about the others.
Compressor needed to tap gas line, 200 bar compressors for explosive gases are not particularly cheap and they need a fair bit of electricity.

Too much pressure for idiots to handle.
Uncertified lpg systems are bad enough but at least the pressure is much lower.

Our city bus fleet switched to CNG a while back and those things are constantly being towed back to the depot. That used to be rare when they were still diesel.

It's definitely illegal, and for good reason (gifrel). That said, the fact that it's illegal entices me to do it.

The equipment is expensive, but that can be managed with tax credits. A matched tax credit with the (former) EV tax credit of around ~$7500 would take care of it. And from there you're paying residential rates, which would come in well under the price at the pump for gasoline. As for it being slow, the point is that it would have been done overnight just like EVs are most of the time.
