>Grow up in the 2000's
>Experience the best 2 decades of automotive design + engineering (90s, 00's)
>Entire family and friends own Japanese cars from this era
>Start looking into new cars
>Not a single vehicle made after 2015 matches the production quality, material durability, human factors and user friendliness of Japanese cars made in the 90's and 2000s
>mfw my experiences and early reference points have ruined anything new from being good enough for me
>can't believe the price tags on new cars despite obvious production color, trim and fitment defects, not to mention utterly abhorrent user interface and control systems.

All new cars look like chinks and/or gundams.

That doesn't necessarily point to newer cars being more reliable. It could indicate that people don't have as much spending power and once they're trapped in a loan and something fails on the car it's easier to replace a part than sell it and finance a new vehicle. It could indicate that people don't like modern cars for whatever reason.
Engine design has improved, but we've also added on tons of accessory systems , sensors, and weird emissions stuff while also adding weight. There are cars today that recommend 20k mile oil changes, specifically so your engine won't last. Wet belts, DCTs dying at 100k, timing chain guides wearing, it's such a hassle to deal with for things that make cars worse. And they truly are much harder to work on.
It's not so cut and dry.

Poorfag cope. Modern cars are more reliable, more comfortable, have more QoL features and generally aren't death traps. Your rusty shit bucket from the 90's may be impressive from a pure engineering aspect but pales in comparison to a modern car and all its comforts and features.

We're currently in a new malaise era, lots of new regulations, some more effective than others. My expectation/hope is that things will stabilize in time and manufacturers will be less hamstrung by laws that don't actually do anything to solve the problems they claim to.
