Gearhead tourism:
Going to legendary tuning shops in Japan
Attending the major WRC rallies
Seeing the Isle of Man in person
Partying at a 24 hour race
Participating in a cross country Dakar Rally stage
What are your thoughts on gearhead vacations?

there was an anon that went to miataland, a luxury holiday resort in italy. the owner has a shitload of miatas and you can drive them around the countryside which apparently has beautiful scenery. if you love geeking out about miatas and cars and letting loose with /o/tism the owner has an equally autistic amount of knowledge about them too

I just got back from this year's Budapest-Bamako Rally. It actually goes to Freetown, Sierra Leone, because of the war in Mali, but the Dakar Rally doesn't go to Dakar anymore either, so whatever. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. It was seventeen days down and another twelve days back. Total distance was about 18k km. I got to see some interesting places and beautiful sites, and I did a bunch of offroading. I drove a 2007 Suzuki Swift 4x4 1.3L. This was my second time doing the rally. The first time I drove a Twingo, which I sold at the finish line. I'm planning to go again in 2028. Next time, I will probably ship the car back rather than drive.

Isle Of Man TT Races. Book for next year because you're late now.
It's 200mph in your back yard with beer.

>Spend thousands
>Go to TT
>Get like, 5 total seconds of visually seeing the contestants
>Hoards of people blocking all of the best spots because you didn't show up here consistently over the past few decades
>Listen to radio or TV screen to tell you who won
>Time to go home!
As much as I love the TT, it seems like a massive waste of time and money for a minimal experience. Yeah you get a 180mph flyby every now and then but that's really it. You don't really get to watch the race aside from a chosen piece of the circuit.

I actually knew people who took a motorhome to NASCAR, parked in the infield and watched the race on satellite because they had multiple channels for coverage that included in car cameras, open mics between drivers and pit crews and telemetry data.
Even when youre at the race the coverage is still better on TV. And thats even on a track where you never lose sight of the cars as they go round and round.
Any type of road course or rally stage etc sucks in person. Youre not there for the race, youre there for the people and "the vibe".

Makes the best sense, but I doubt you'll be able to bring a whole RV to the island

That is the most cost effective most optimal option.
I don't wanna be a stick in the mud and buzzkill the fun, but I don't believe there's much fun for the total cost
