finally completed my first iracing race... it was pretty brutal. MX-5 Lime rock. Had to suffer 3 DNFs in a row for various reasons (mostly me spinning myself out unrecoverably tbf but a couple people wrecked me).
I did like 5 or 6 sessions straight and this was my only finish.
Does the spinning out learning curve get easier over time? when it starts happening it seems impossible to stop and I am really bad at getting back on track quickly.

Driving in iceRacing is an exercise in figuring out how not to slide the car. If you're already sliding, you're dead. The MX-5 Cup is probably the one where that behavior is the least problematic.

Miata only slides because of its shit ABS or youre on the power too early, but its most likely the former. The fixed setup is also very oversteery in general. You should use maira if you want a chance at controlling the slides, as iRacing's stock FFB is probably even worse than LMU's.

You only need to buy the content you want to buy. I dont recommend buying every track for a whole season of a series youll race in. I would just buy the popular stuff like monza, daytona, spa, sebring, and so on. Lesser known tracks have shit participation and are typically more miserable to drive on in a high powered car. Popular tracks are popular for a reason. The buying cars issue is a problem in GT3 and GTP since iRacing only bothers with a BoP for special events and arent diligent with updating it for normal races like LMU is. Most of the mid engined GT3s are pretty shit right now after the new tire model. Basically if you want to pay to win, get a front engine car, except for the BMW. That car's suspension is just fucked and feels like it has no mechanical grip.

iRacing FFB only outputs effects coming from the steering rack, which is useless. You will have no idea what the fuck the car is doing via FFB. MAIRA basically turns it into AC1's FFB and you can fine tune how strong oversteer and seat of pants effects are. I recommend using the 2.0 version since thats what's actually being updated.

Apparently FH6's physics have been made slightly more realistic, you can no longer brake and turn at the same time without loosing grip. Why didn't they just do that for Forza Motorsport, why did it have its own shitty physics?

forza, even motorsport, has always had a "hand of god" yaw assist that helps controller babbies tbqh. it is supposed to turn off when simulation steering is selected but the cars are set up by default with lots of toe in to work with the assists, so they are very understeery and dull while also having very twitchy, peaky grip.

my biggest complaint about fm7 and 8 was basically that every car had to be tuned back to neutral before it wouldn't drive like ass on a steering wheel

While I have waited a long time for Turn 10 and Playground to finally release a Horizon game set in Japan, the fact that their games keep getting worse with every new release and my interest in gaming continues to decline as I get older makes me no longer desire to play their new racing games… especially considering the roads are still going to be a fucking mile wide!
I still occasionally play BeamNG and TXR on my Steam Deck, though.

I'm going to buy Forza Horizon 6. I can't wait to drift a Dodge Challenger straight sideways down Akina just like in my Japanese animes. Thankfully, even though I am a more discerning gamer as an adult, I have not lost my sense of whimsy and still find enjoyment in games that dont live up to my standards completely.

30kg load cell is plenty for sim racing.
