Hello, /p/. I love traffic lights since I was a kid, and I'm trying to take pictures of traffic lights. I'm still learning the basics of photography, so any feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope one day I can afford a professional camera, but for now they're shot on my shitty phone camera. Thanks.

This is one of the last remaining 3M traffic signals in use, and I wanted to capture it's uniqueness at this angle. You can only see the current light of you're looking directly at it's direction.
>>
This was in a fairly popular vacation town; it is still using a prototype LED 8' light for a green.
>>
This light while not new, had it's bulbs changed recently after some maintenance work was done on the road recently.
>>
This one is a bit sloppy, as I finished a 10hr shift prepping for the new subway to open. The light was installed after the station was renovated.

Apologies on the photos being at the wrong axis. They looked normal on my photos app. I don't know why they got rotated.
>>
I got this on the new train that opened on the weekend.

Nice autism. Crop the photos a tiny little bit then save them. They will keep their orientation when posting afterwards.
>>
i agree, nice autism, it isn't my area of interest but still interesting
traffic lights and tail lights are annoying as hell on digital to get accurate colors of, you either underexpose to hell and everything else needs +3 exposure in post, or you expose for the scene and the red lights get all fucked from overloading the color sensors and look totally wrong compared to what your eyes see

I've had problems like that, and it's becoming an annoyance when taking night shots. This picture I got of a light makes my camera look like it has a bad astigmatism. I'm still learning about exposure on my phone, but I am planning to buy a camera for more detailed shots.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate the advice. I cropped this photo of a Fortran 12-8-8 that I took when seeing my friend. The light isn't broken, I timed the photo right when the light was changing phases. Sorry if the photo looks off a bit. It was -26° that day, and I had no gloves.
>>
I took this one when I had to visit the streetcar garage a few months ago. I think the mural compliments the traffic light well. The amber light makes me think this little Fortran is gasping out of shock.
>>
This poor Fortran 12-12-12-12 Traffic Light was angled quite awkwardly; I think it was from the snow storm that hit a while ago. For some reason, the tilt reminds me of a person looking at you condescendingly.
>>
This Econolite 12-8-8-12 looks like an angry drunk about to puke. When I visited this place, the area was a mess due to major construction. I don't think its still on a wooden hydro pole any more, as I took the picture last year.

These Fortran lights are only a few years old, but the street name signs are freshly installed.

Sorry if it's a duplicate. I'm new here; I mostly post on different boards, but my friend told me /p/ would be a good place to post my pictures and get feedback.

I guarantee you this guy is not your friend. No real friend would ever suggest that.
>>

Does that mean I'm breaking the rules, and should stop posting, as its a duplicate thread?

Also... Nice autism.

Apologies for the quality. I took this picture with a budget phone nearly 8 years ago. The "No Turn on Red" sign was tilted because of a wind storm. I think this Fortran was one of the last signals in the city that used incandescent bulbs. It was replaced around 2020. I wish to visit small towns in my province this year because I've heard that many of them are still using old incandescent General Electric Groovebacks manufacturered in the 1990s.

always been fascinated by the super niche autism interests. what compelled you to traffic lights? what is it about them you find so interesting? genuine question not trying to be rude.

used to work at a group home and the one autistic resident had a fascination with porta potty's and ladders and spent his monthly allowance on a tour of a porta potty factory. he would never elaborate why it interests him it was just his thing

I am always on the lookout for urban beacons, sometimes mannequins or statues if I can catch a good angle

I don't know an exact date. As a kid, I've always thought that Traffic Lights were like humans with emotions. I thought of each signal phase as an emotion. Whenever I would talk to my English & Art teachers about it, they would always say that inanimate objects have no emotion. Over time, as GE's & old Fortrans get replaced with new Econolite & Fortran signals, to me it feels like a bunch of nice old people passing away. There are a few remaining incandescent bulbs remaining, but they're far away in some old towns. I plan to take a week off work, and travel around my province & take pictures of some old traffic signals. People might not care, and that's fine. I just feel like we're losing a tremendous amount of history & stories people had at those intersections with those old lights.
>>
It's also really nice to see people also take photos of traffic signals. All of these posts are really cool. I love the night time shots, the Austrian traffic signal, and the infamous German Walking signal. I wish to go to Germany to see them in person. They're all beautiful photos. Thank you, /p/.

I love the glow of this Japanese traffic signals. This one looks both old, and new. The lights brightness looks like it's LED, but the signal head looks like it was made for incandescent bulbs.
>>
I took this new-ish Fortran traffic light when I was visiting my friend. Sorry for the quality, I had to rush before the light turned red, and a cop was directing traffic. I also couldn't upload the raw image due to 4chan's file size limit.
