Against ballistic missiles yes it is a complete meme and also against drones because its not cost efficient do shoot 1 million euro missile at 10k drones. Its also a meme against missiles with regular trajectories because thats not cost efficient either. AD is a very niche piece of equipment which can be used as a part of layered defence during large troop movements or to protect something thats strategic. But good rule of thumb is that AD is always much easier to saturate than it is for AD to work even relatively reliably. One thing AD is cost efficient in however is denial of enemy air superiority, its cheaper to prevent air superiority with AD than it is for large squadrons of fighter jets to take it
