Prior to dropping out, Swalwell had jumped from 10% of the vote in february to 18% by April 1st. But after dropping out, Republican Steve Bianco saw a surge of support to 14.4% of voters, while Steyer only had 14.1% of voters-, resulting in the Democrats being edged out of the Top Two spots.

longshot candidates Xavier Becerra and Mahan saw their support increase from 3% to 10% and 3% to 5% respectively, which is more than half of steyer's voters. Katie Porter, who ordered the hitpiece, gained 2%. Other candidates also saw moderate 1% increases This means Swalwell's base fragmented 6 different ways, instead of consolidating around steyer- probably because he's a billionaire and the 2020 primaries showed democrats unwilling to support Bloomberg because reasons. Swalwell was the most palatable white male non-billionaire American Psycho type politician california white democrats go for.

And on top of everything else, Swalwell's name will still be on all the ballots, creating the likelihood that undecided voters who pay zero attention to the race will give 3-5% of the vote to him, similar to Biden write-ins in 2024 from confused californians who did not realize he dropped out 4 months earlier.

Of 23% undecided, about 8% or 1/3 will be republican voters as well if 2024 and 2018 and 2016 data holds true. If there is a surge of republicans, pushing them to 10/23%, this will further increase the lead the two republicans have, while forcing the fragmented democrats to fight over the remaining 13-15%

The most concerning thing for democrats is that Swallowwell voters actively refused to support Steyer the billionaire or Porter the man who killed their candidate's chances, choosing to absolutely bring the rest of the democrats down with them as a big fuck you.

Possibly even 3% went to Bianco, as a palatable white man who isn't a billionaire, which would be the Nuclear scenario for democrats.
