The 20th century was a turbulent time for the human race. Wars, weapons, and atrocities beyond imagination occupied that hundred years, making an indelible mark upon the history of the human race. Discoveries and inventions, both good and wicked, propelled human society to new heights of technology, knowledge, and power.
Yet as man's mastery over the Earth grew stronger, a sobering discovery was made. The human race would find that perhaps they were not so much in control of the natural world as they had hoped, and that the sciences and discoveries that could propel the species to new heights could also bring about its undoing.
It began with an incident in London in 1925, when a live Brontosaurus was supposedly brought to the city, only to rampage and escape. The story was covered up, evidence suppressed, and most believed it to be nothing more than a tall tale. Then, in 1933, the world would be changed forever.
Filmmaker Carl Denham and his crew returned from a voyage to a far-off island with "The Eight Wonder of the World", King Kong, a gigantic ape the size of a large dinosaur. The creature escaped captivity and rampaged throughout New York before being gunned down atop the Empire State Building. Kong would not be the last monster to terrorize the United States over the decades. The ferocious Rhedosaurus terrorized New York in 1953, and the United States would face threats ranging from giant insects to giant octopi.

They were not alone. Ireland and London would face the wrath of a terrifying monster after capturing a creature known as "Gorgo", Denmark was attacked by the mighty "Reptilicus", Italy encountered the terror of the first confirmed extraterrestrial as an elephant-sized beast called "Ymir" rampaged through Rome. Hong Kong would be attacked by a colossal ape known as the "Mighty Peking Man", South Korea would be menaced by another giant ape, and the terrifying "Yongary" and Mexico would have to contend with both living dinosaurs and giant scorpions.
But it was Japan who faced perhaps the most devastating beasts. In 1947, a local legend named "Gojira" (called Godzilla in the West due to miscommunication during initial reports), would terrorize the Pacific and attack Japan before being defeated by a coalition of former military men, scientists, and civilians. In 1954, a second Gojira would appear, being killed only through the deployment of a new superweapon, the Oxygen Destroyer. The secret of this weapon would die with its creator. Only a year later, a third Gojira would appear, this time joined by an ancient ankylosaurus-like creature called Anguirus. Anguirus was slain by Gojira himself, and Gojira was buried in an avalanche on Kamiko Island. Japan would face further threats such as Mothra, Rodan, Gamera, Varan, "Frankenstein", "The Gargantuas", and the triphibian "Gappas".
It was clear that the world contained more mysteries and threats than previously expected by men and women of science, yet the world as a whole did little but take each threat as it came, until an incident in 1998, when a creature first misidentified as Godzilla appeared in New York. Between its massive size, surprising agility, and the sheer incompetence displayed by the US military, the damage to the city was severe.
Following this attack, the President of the United States began suggesting a joint organization, funded and staffed by multiple nations, to develop weaponry, defenses, and forces capable of counteracting the threat posed by giant monsters. Japan, remembering well the many attacks they had suffered, were instantly onboard, but many countries displayed reluctance.

This reluctance would begin to disappear, as over the next two years, the coast of France would be menaced by Giant Squids and a massive beast called "Crustaceous Rex", Mexican farmlands would be ravaged by a gigantic worm, and Nigeria would be terrorized by a giant bat. While the efforts of the Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team (H.E.A.T.), a group headed by Doctor Nico Tatopoulos (who had played a large role in defeating the creature that attacked New York in 1998) investigated and aided local governments in dealing with these creatures, it was clear that the threat was not going to go away.
And so, The Kaiju Response Force was born. Funded by several nations, and staffed by men and women from even more, the Force operates outside of UN jurisdiction or the jurisdiction of any of its supporting nations to train soldiers, develop technology, and prepare for the kaiju threat, wherever it may come from. They search the globe for potential kaiju threats, study the creatures where possible, and destroy them where necessary.
You are part of this organization, and little do you know that you've joined in time for things to get really interesting....

Welcome, everyone, to Kaiju Response Force Quest. You will be playing the part of a man who has joined the organization, and who will find himself wrapped up in a multitude of crises and adventures.
The rules will be pretty simple. At the end of each update, options will be presented. Vote for what you like, and the next update will either be based on the first option to get three votes, or whatever has the most after thirty minutes.
If you want to go with multiple options or a write-in, you may within reason (no voting for every option when it's going to send you off in three different directions, or when you're in a split-second decision moment).

Tokyo is in flames.
A sea of smoke and fire fills your vision as your vessel makes its way toward the smoldering city. The Super-X can move quickly when it needs to, but you haven't arrived in nearly enough time to prevent this tragedy from unfolding. Still, there should be plenty of time to keep this destruction from spreading further.
"Kaiju identity is unknown" Lena, a blonde-haired Swedish woman, and one of your fellow crewmembers tells you from her station. "But it's assumed to be at least B-Class."
In the Force's kaiju ranking system, a B-Class kaiju refers to a kaiju that, while capable of being killed using conventional weapons, needs to be killed through non-traditional use of said weapons. Given that the JSDF have so far failed to deal with this threat, B-Class seems a sensible starting point.
A piercing cry draws your attention, and the Super-X turns toward its source. There, amidst the flames, stands a massive reptilian beast with dorsal plates, a long tail, and a thick, scaley hide.
Godzilla.
Now, you know that a Godzilla hasn't shown up in over seventy years, and that the last one is still frozen under ice on an island somewhere, but this is, after all, a simulation.
"How do we handle this?" Absko, your Kenyan crewmate, asks as each member of the crew readies themselves to follow your orders.

You call for the others to open fire with the most powerful munitions you have, as you want to penetrate its skin and do some serious damage to the creature. As you give the order, some of your crewmembers look uncertain, but comply nonetheless. You're sure they needn't worry. Godzilla might have reigned in his time, but against the might of the Super-X, he will be no match.
The Super-X is the most advanced and powerful assault vehicle the Force has to offer, built to essentially be a floating fortress. Its weaponry, its armor, these things make it virtually unstoppable. If the UN had any oversight in terms of the Kaiju Response Force, they may not have even allowed such a weapon to be constructed. Fortunately for the world, they do not, and so here you are, piloting the greatest combat craft the world has ever known (or at least a simulation of it).
Missiles burst forward from your craft, shooting across the sky and making direct contact with Godzilla, who roars in response. Pain? Rage? You choose to assume the former, and as the beast is obscured by fire and smoke, you expect that to be the last mighty sound it ever makes. Certainly, the smoke will clear to reveal a wounded, or even dead Godzilla lying amongst the rubble it created out of this once great city.
"Incoming!" Absko cries out in warning as a streak of blue light explodes from the smoke, racing toward the Super-X. Before you can even call for evasive maneuvers, the blast strikes your vessel, causing the entire craft to shake and the lights to flicker in the face of this atomic assault. You've heard the stories of Godzilla's mighty atomic breath, and this is the closest you've ever come to facing that power.
Still, the craft is intact, and Lena confirms that all systems are still operational. Godzilla has proven resilient, but you aren't beaten yet.

You've learned your lesson, thankfully without losing the battle. Going in guns blazing, head-first and expecting to overpower the so-called "King of the Monsters" won't be so simple, even with the mighty Super-X under your command. You'll have to switch things up and approach this more carefully. Sure, the Super-X survived that shot of atomic breath, but you have no way of knowing how many more it could possibly withstand. Worse, you still can't see your foe through the smoke, making it hard to predict when or where the next attack will come.
"Evasive action!" you order the others, who obey this time with a lot less uncertainty, likely wondering just like you how much more the Super-X can take.
This quickly proves to have been a prudent decision, as moments after you begin to move, another blast shoots from the smoke, streaking through the spot where your vessel was just seconds prior. Still unable to get a good look, you order your crewmates to keep up evasive maneuvers, not wanting to make your next move until you can see what you're dealing with. Another blast shoots your way, thankfully missing once again. And, as seconds that feel like hours pass, your foe becomes visible once more.
Godzilla stands amongst the fire and rubble, snarling at you and your crew, or at least your vessel. You see that you've drawn blood against your enemy, but its posture and appearance suggest that you've caused it pain and anger more than actual damage. You'd heard that Godzilla was virtually impervious to any conventional weaponry, or in the case of the first, able to regenerate from nearly any wound, but had assumed that a superweapon from nearly a century later would have more than enough firepower to make short work of even a creature that mighty. Yet, here he stands.
You take a moment to reflect on what you know of the Godzillas. The first and third were B-Class, requiring clever use of conventional weaponry to defeat. The second, however, was A-Class, meaning that it required the development of a new technology or weapon to defeat.
This one looks most similar to the third Godzilla, which killed Anguirus and was trapped in ice on Kamiko Island back in 1955, but whichever one this simulation is based on, you get the sense that fighting head-on with conventional weaponry is a fool's errand, likely only to end with your ship being destroyed before you can put the beast down.
The first Godzilla was killed by flying an aircraft with a powerful bomb into its mouth. The second, with the technologically unique Oxygen Destroyer, and the third buried beneath ice. What can you do to mimic any of those approaches here?
Perhaps more conventional weapons could work if fired into the beast's mouth, or perhaps the cadmium missiles can poison and kill it. Or, maybe you can bury it beneath debris.

While not enough to kill the monster outright or seriously wound it, you have seen that the weaponry of the Super-X is capable of dealing damage to this beast. Perhaps without a thick hide to punch through, it can do some real damage. Part of you is tempted to try the cadmium missiles, but perhaps saving those as a trump card is best.
You give specific orders. The crew is to wait for Godzilla to open its mouth to roar, not to fire its atomic breath. When that happens, they are to launch a missile directly into the beast's open mouth. They acknowledge your orders, some of them sounding nervous, though you may be able to chalk that up to the potential difficulty of the shot you're asking for rather than a lack of faith in this plan. You and your crew work to take aim even as the Super-X is forced to dodge another atomic blast.
After one more attempt, Godzilla roars in apparent anger, giving your crew the necessary opening. A missile blasts away, quickly closing the distance and entering the monster's mouth, exploding and taking much of its head with it. Cheers erupt from your crew as the simulation comes to an end.
As the room surrounding the simulator illuminates, you and your crew get out of your seats and head for the exit.
"Nicely done," Lena compliments with a smile as she passes you, stepping out first.
"Yeah, good work" Absko concurs, slapping you on the shoulder as the two of you exit.
The other three crew members, with whom you are less acquainted, also express their approval of your work.
As you and the others make your way out into the light, you find two important men waiting for you, each of them imposing, well-built men in commanders uniforms. One of them, you know, is Douglas Gordon of the United States, one of the commanders of the Force, and the man behind Project Atragon, which seeks to create a small fleet of powerful airships. Beside him is Commander Alexandre Jourdain of France. Commander Jourdain is legendary for his role in defeating Crustaceous Rex back in 1999. He and the troops under his command, who were believed to have died in the initial assault, reappeared and coordinated to bury the monster in an avalanche, crushing it under countless tons of rock and dirt. He's also the man who has been credited with the secretive Mechagodzilla program, which as far as anyone can tell, aims to create a combat mech in the image of Godzilla himself.
You and your crewmates salute the pair.
"At ease, soldiers," Commander Gordon tells you all. "Nice work out there."
"Agreed. You showed impressive adaptability, and won the battle without even having to use your most deadly weapon. Well done," Commander Jourdain praises.

Hey folks, there is something I wanted to ask you all regarding this quest.
I've considered incorporating some kaiju/aliens from the Ultraman series, and was wondering your thoughts. I wouldn't be bringing in the Ultras themselves, but I don't know if using Ultraman monsters and possibly altering them slightly to fit the setting is sacrilege without including Ultras themselves.

Wanting to show some good leadership, improve morale, and also because you are genuinely impressed with your crew, you make sure to give them credit to the commanders, praising the amazing shot that allowed for a quick and decisive victory in the simulation.
Gordon gives a little smile. "That was a hell of a shot."
"Yes, a fine performance from all involved," Commander Jourdain agrees. "Congratulations. You all now officially qualified to operate the Super-X."
He looks to you. "And you are qualified to command it."
A screen on the far wall lights up, displaying a list of those that have been deemed qualified to pilot the Super-X, and another listing those qualified to command it. As the Super-X, and members of the Kaiju Response Force can be stationed in any number of places at any given time, it was decided to have multiple crews worth of people trained and certified to operate it.
Looking at the list of those qualified for command, you see:

Unable to stop yourself, you follow your first instinct and complain that you don't get a day off. Perhaps it's childish, and certainly it's out of turn, but getting good enough to successfully command the Super-X against Godzilla, even in a simulation, does take a lot of energy. And the simulations are so lifelike that they can take a good deal out of you.
Still, the reaction is fairly predictable. Your fellow soldiers try to disguise their shock, while the commanders both look unhappy, to say the least.
"Kid, do you not understand what you signed up for?" Gordon asks in obvious irritation. "You want to sit around and complain about your hours, you should get an office job and get out of here!"
"I think he was just joking, Commander, sir." Lena speaks up for you.
"That right? Well, he needs to work on his sense of humor," Gordon replies. "Dismissed."
Deciding against questioning or complaining to your commander any further, you elect to acknowledge Gordon's advice and make your way to the chow hall. Lena and Absko are right behind you, neither one seeming to know where your little outburst came from.
"That was not smart," Absko says, perhaps stating the obvious, though considering you did it, maybe he thinks it not so obvious to you. "Commander Gordon is good to his soldiers, but he does not like disrespect."
The three of you get into line, grabbing some food and drinks. You have a look around the hall, seeing plenty of people you recognize, several you don't, and an empty table or two.
"You're lucky he didn't ask you to get into the ring with him or something" Lena adds as you stand mulling over where to sit. "Remember what happened to Roberts?"
You do. Alan Roberts was a man who showed a lot of promise, and a lot of attitude. Eventually Gordon had enough, and Roberts spent a week in the infirmary after their match. He dropped out of the Force not long after.
Looking around, you see Mateo Carrilo sitting by himself, reading a book as he eats. You also spot the twin sisters Ji-a and Da-hye sitting and talking with one another.

You apologize for your outburst as you make your way to the empty table, your comrades joining you and taking seats to enjoy their meal along with you.
The three of you have spent a fair amount of time together in training and simulations, both by assignment and by choice. The three of you have so far gotten along quite well, and made an effective team, as demonstrated by your recent performance in the Super-X simulation. Both Absko and Lena are likable people by your reckoning, and seem to be quite genuine in their desire to help people as part of the Force.
Sadly, this isn't always the case. Some people join for selfish yet understandable reasons, such as getting out of poverty-stricken areas. Attempted espionage has also been a problem, with would-be spies caught from the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France, Israel, and almost any other country one could think of. The kind of technology developed and used by the Force rather predictably makes for enticing targets.
But with these two, you get no sense that they intend to perform any theft or do anything untoward in the service of a particular government. You know that Absko personally survived a kaiju attack in his home country of Kenya, where a gigantic mutant hippopotamus caused a great deal of carnage. Even with the KRF joining in, the beast's thick hide made it exceptionally difficult to kill, only being stopped after a cadmium missile was shot into its mouth and poisoned the beast. Lena has expressed an interest both in protecting people from kaiju, and learning about kaiju with the hope that some of them can be peacefully coexisted with.
She's somewhat on the fringe with that latter part, but there are others who think like she does. And, there are at least a few kaiju that are left well enough alone and seem to return the favor so long as that continues. Gorgo and its mother have yet to cause more trouble, for example. The same can be said of Mothra, the Gappas, and that "Behemoth" creature that was discovered a few years ago in the Middle East.
You decide to broach the subject of what the others think tomorrow's assignment will be, part of you wondering if it has to do with the mysterious Mechagodzilla project.
Lena seems to be thinking on similar lines.
"Maybe we're being considered to pilot something from Project Atragon, or maybe being assigned to help operate the Argo?" she suggests.
The Argo is a massive, armored flying fortress and command center, second only to the Super-X in terms of armor and firepower,
"I'm betting more Ice Borers have shown up" Absko suggests, referring to giant mole creatures that caused serious trouble when this Antarctic base was first established.

Last post for the night, I posted a twitter for if anyone wants to follow and see when I do another several hour session again. Most likely tomorrow, but should get at least one update tomorrow even if not. Most likely with A winning judging by the current look, but take time and discuss things. If I come back and see that y'all have shifted support to something else, we'll go with that.
In the meantime, perhaps you should all discuss your character's appearance and nationality. All I've said so far is that they're male. So, beyond that, up to you guys.

My pitch is that our character is a Spain-American dual citizen that grew up in Madrid and immigrated to the U.S. to attend M.I.T. where he studied robotics and code. I think maybe he should have a tragic backstory where a family member was killed in a Kaiju attack in Spain while he was a student in the U.S., which has placed a chip on his shoulder and led to his application to the KRF.
If I were to choose which Kaiju killed his family member, I think I would be evenly split between Megalon or King Ghidorah.

A name has not been settled on, though some suggestions have been made. You guys have until midnight US Eastern tonight to discuss and decide on it. If there's no clear winner, I'll choose.

While the suggestions from both of your friends are reasonable enough, you can't help but want to make a suggestion that's a bit more out-there. You don't know much about the Mechagodzilla Project. Most members of the Force don't know much more than the fact that it exists, as far as you're aware. You also know that it's the pet project of Commander Jourdain, and that he apparently had to argue quite a bit with KRF Chief Namikawa to get it to happen. While Chief Namikawa was willing to put support behind Commander Gordon's Project Atragon, the Argo, and the in-progress Project Garuda, those were projects dealing with airships and combat vehicles. The supposed combat mech created in the image of Godzilla is a harder sell.
For one thing, combat mechs like that have not been built before, much less to battle kaiju. There have been suggestions that got varying degrees of attention and traction. Two scientists were fired from the Force for suggesting such things. One had described a giant samurai mech he called the "Shogun Executioner", and another had proposed something far more bizarre, the "Robot Bride".
You're still unsure if the latter was meant to be a joke. Supposedly, it was designed in the image of that scientist's daughter, and was meant to seduce a kaiju, then detonate a massive bomb in its chest. If the story is true, you aren't surprised at the part where said scientist was later institutionalized.
Then there was the Jager program, but the technology was too experimental and expensive for it to get far past the concept stages.
With that kind of history, not to mention the controversy surrounding the idea of a weapon resembling a trio of monsters that killed many people, it's a wonder that Commander Jourdain managed to convince Chief Namikawa at all.
When you mention the possibility to the others, they kind of glance at each other before responding.
"I don't know," Lena says, putting it simply. "Maybe, but I don't know if it's far enough along for us to be of much use."
"Besides, we're not the first to get certification for the Super-X," Absko points out. "I mean, there are rumors that some of the others who passed are being considered, but nothing solid. Do we even know how many people are required to man this thing? They might have all they need already."

What family member died? A parent or a sibling? I would like for there to be surviving family for us to interact with at some point, and maybe their feelings about the loss are different from ours, even.

Curious that Absko seems to have heard some information that you haven't, you ask him whom he's heard about being taken to join the program. He looks around a bit, as if suddenly realizing he's said something he shouldn't have. Finally realizing that the only people watching him are you and Lena, he relaxes slightly, but he does lean forward and speak in a slightly conspiratorial tone.
"I heard the names Akane Yashiro, Kyosuke Akiba, Asuza Kisaragi, Riley Becket, Mako Mori, Herc and Chuck Hansen, and....well, those are all that I remember," he tells you quietly.
You know a few of those names from the list of other Super-X Command qualified pilots, and you know Becket, Mori, and Chuck Hansen from a rather public fight between Riley and Chuck that occurred after the latter supposedly made disparaging remarks about Mako Mori. There were all kinds of rumors about that fight, but to your knowledge, nobody was dismissed over it, at least.
Talk dies down at your table from that point, as the three of you focus on finishing your meals. The food here is nothing extraordinary, but it's decent enough, and good for keeping people going in terms of energy. Once you've finished eating, you feel that tiredness that prompted your little outburst return, and bidding your companions goodnight, you get up and head for your quarters. Your bunkmate, Tarek Adel from Egypt, is already sound asleep, so you take effort not to wake him as you climb into bed and yourself fall into sleep.
The next day, you find yourself in your heavy winter gear, standing beside Lena and Absko at one of the base's helipads. Captain Gyozen, a thick-accented and famously temperamental Japanese man, is standing in front of you, sizing up each member of your trio.
"The three of you have been chosen for an important assignment," he insists. "Edith Winter of Solstice Technologies is coming to present us with some new weapons and technology. After this is done, you will join her on a voyage that she insists will be of great significance."
You've heard of Edith. Daughter of Solstice Technologies Founder and head Cameron Winter, she's the only one of Cameron's many alleged children to be acknowledged by the man, and according to rumor, is being groomed to succeed him as head of Solstice Technologies.
Solstice Technologies is a wealthy and secretive corporation that has long partnered with the KRF (despite warnings from Doctor Nico Tatapoulos, who insisted Winter could not be trusted), working to develop a myriad of useful and high-tech anti-kaiju weaponry, such as improved mazer weaponry, and perhaps most famously, the Markalite Cannons, along with the Markalite GYROs that allow them to be quickly deployed nearly anywhere on the planet. In exchange, Solstice has gotten a cut of profits selling this tech to various nations for anti-kaiju protection, and access to many of the KRF's records. If they're sending Edith Winter, and say this is important, it probably is.

The sound of an approaching helicopter soon reaches your ears, and it isn't long before a Solstice Technologies chopper is settling down on the helipad. Only one person emerges, a slender woman with snow-white hair. She's dressed fairly casually, and not unpleasing to the eye, but she has these piercing green eyes that call to mind images of a predator preparing to go for the throat of its prey. She strides alone toward you and the others, carrying a large, heavy-looking suitcase.
"So, this is my escort?" she asks Captain Gyozen, looking you and your friends over.
"Yes, miss Winter," Gyozen confirms. "They will escort you to the presentation room and accompany you on your....expedition when that is done."
"Great," she says, giving a small smile. "Well then, shall we?"
"Very well, let's get moving," Gyozen says, leading the way as you and the others take up position, with Lena and Absko flanking miss Winter and you bringing up the rear.

As you escort Edith to her presentation, you find that curiosity is getting the best of you. You weren't told anything about your assignment prior to showing up on the helipad, and what you heard from Gyozen was similarly vague. Besides, the base is big, no harm in breaking the silence with some talking on your way there.
You start by introducing yourself, along with Absko and Lena. Then, you follow up by asking about the expedition. You notice Gyozen look back over his shoulder, looking like he's about to say something. Edith, on the other hand, looks somewhat thankful to be able to have some conversation.
"Well, recently Solstice Technologies bought out a now-defunct bio-research corporation known as BioSyn. They have a long history of morally dubious, and more importantly, sloppy experimentation going all the way back to the 1990s. Eventually, they made one mistake too many, and faced lawsuit after lawsuit from the US federal government. Going under, they were desperate to find a buyer. My father swooped them up, and discovered from their files that they had done more than had even come out so far in their various lawsuits. One such thing was a series of experiments on a largely unknown but inhabited island which reportedly had some results right up your organization's alley. From their notes, they claim to essentially have created kaiju, several of them, on one island. A monster island, if you will. That's where we'll be going."
It now makes sense why she needs an escort, but this sounds like something they'd send the Argo or Super-X for, not three soldiers. Perhaps reading your expression, Edith gives an amused smirk.
"Not to worry," she reassures you confidently, patting her case. "With what I've got in here, we'll be more than able to handle whatever's out there. Our preliminary scouting also revealed a few other islands, making this an entire archipelago most people knew nothing about. Interestingly enough, these islands aren't very far from Infant Island."
Infant Island. That name you know. Home of Mothra and the Shobijin, or "tiny beauties" as they were called when they were abducted and put on stage. Since Mothra reclaimed them all those years ago, Infant Island has been a restricted area. Planes are forbidden from flying over it, and tourism is not allowed. A handful of small-scale expeditions by various countries have been sent, but these undertakings have taken great care when dealing with that island and its goddess.

It's funny, Mothra is possibly the closest thing to a deity incarnate out there, even among kaiju, even compared to Godzilla himself. While all three Godzillas had been deadly and resilient, they still were able to be defeated. In Mothra's case, all humanity could do was give her what she wanted in exchange for her mercy. This makes Mothra one of the very few S-Class Kaiju, joined only by Gorgo's mother and the mighty Gappas. There were some arguments that Gamera should be on that list, since all they could do was send him away, but it was decided that it still counted as defeating him with new technology, putting him in a solid A-Class.
So great was her power, so strange and mystical her and her followers were, that there's a small handful of people today even outside of Infant Island, that worship her as a goddess.
Mothra, a monster this powerful and dangerous, has an entire unknown archipelago and a monster island right near her secluded home. It sounds almost perfect.
As you reach the conference room, Gyozen turns to you. "That will be all, soldiers. Go and prepare yourselves for your journey while miss Winter makes her presentation."
"I don't mind them sticking around and watching," Edith says with a shrug. "After all, they might need to know this to guard me properly."

Why not? You decide to accept the invitation. Your friends also seem to think this is a good idea, and do the same. If whatever this woman brought is going to be critical to your mission, it makes sense to watch a presentation and find out more about it. Besides, it's not every day you get to attend an important meeting with important people.
Edith nods, and while Gyozen doesn't look particularly pleased, he goes along with it without any audible complaints. He opens the door for the Force's guest, and you enter with her, you and the other two taking up positions in the room. You can see that, yes, there are important people here. Commander Gordon and Commander Jourdain are both present, but even better than that, Chief Namikawa is sitting front and center, the woman giving off a commanding presence even as she does something so simple as sit and wait for a presentation. Also present is Commander Stacker Pentecost, a dark-skinned British man, notable for his strong presence, combat skills, and the fact that he's remained in such high regard among his peers and Chief Namikawa even with the Jager program being scrapped.
It's rare for a soldier, even one with your level of skill and recognition, to be in the room with this many people of such high importance. It takes a moment for you to realize that there's another person of significance in the room. Doctor Yua Mafune, the Great-Great Granddaughter of disgraced scientist Shinzo Mafune. Shinzo was shunned by the scientific community for his claims about a massive underwater creature called Titanosaurus, and his insistence that the creature could be controlled. Despite, or perhaps because of the fact that giant monsters had attacked Japan before, nobody wanted to hear or see anything of the sort that Mafune had been claiming. Now, with the KRF a global organization aiming to deal with the kaiju threat, Mafune's discoveries and claims are considered less outrageous, and so his prodigious descendant has found a place of importance and respect within the organization, specializing in research aiming for finding non-lethal ways to deal with kaiju threats, and study of their behavior.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your time and for inviting me to your headquarters," Edith begins, setting her case down on a table in front of her. "The KRF and Solstice Technologies have had a very fruitful partnership so far, and today it gets even better. Our work in the Markalite and Maser Cannons have revolutionized anti-kaiju ordnance, but now we have options beyond stationary turrets, tank and aircraft mounted cannons, and even flying fortresses. What I have with me today is something that can be handed to every man and woman willing to stand between a kaiju and its victims."

She opens the case to reveal what looks like a strange, toy gun. Hefting the weapon with some difficulty and taking aim at a prepared target across the room, which from the look of it is a titanium replica of King Kong.
"As you know, the first Maser Cannons, deployed against the kaiju Sanda and Gaira back in 1966, proved far more effective against giant monsters than any conventional weapon. Hence why your organization and my company have put so much stock into improving those weapons. What I have here is another sort of improvement. It doesn't have more firepower than our typical turrets and cannons, but what it does do is allow a soldier to carry far more firepower than any gun or rocket launcher."
A blue bolt of light fires from the gun, striking the model King Kong dead-center. It blasts right through the stomach of the titanium model, leaving a smoldering hole where it passed.
"With these weapons, soldiers can hunt kaiju in places where tanks, jets, and flying fortresses can't reach," she explains. "A squad of soldiers carrying these can take out some lesser kaiju, as demonstrated, or slow down stronger ones while the heavier weaponry is moved into position. These three soldiers, who you have so graciously assigned to protect me in my upcoming expedition, will each be given one to use for the duration of the mission, and be allowed to keep them should they perform well. Once that field test has been completed, we plan on gifting one thousand of these to your organization, and giving you first priority for future sales, at a reasonable discount."
"Impressive," Gordon compliments. "I'd like to have one of those myself."
"It's a fine weapon," Chief Namikawa allows. "And I assume far cheaper to produce than a maser-mounted tank or fighter-jet."
"Of course. We don't like wasting money at Solstice Technologies," Edith assures her. "We make sure our products are always worthwhile. A gun wouldn't make much sense if it cost as much as a tank."
"Very well, we're quite interested in acquiring these for our soldiers," Namikawa tells her.
"Pardon me," Doctor Mafune speaks up. "But, are you planning on needing to use these on your expedition?"
"I'm hoping not to have to," Edith answers in a not totally convincing tone. "But from what we've seen in the notes we acquired from BioSyn, there are several kaiju-sized insects, at the very least, on this island. We've also come across records of mysterious ship disappearances near the archipelago in recent years. So it pays to be prepared. That said, I share your opinion that these creatures are much more valuable alive. All we can gain from learning about these creatures is worth considering before we pull the trigger."
"You will, of course, share any findings with us, correct?" Chief Namikawa inquires.
"Of course. Once we can figure out how to safely do so, I'd like the KRF and Solstice to do a joint research venture there," Edith tells her.

You decide to be a little bold, and rather than simply obeying your superior officer, you request permission to stay, and furthermore ask Edith about the kaiju she expects to encounter.
Gyozen looks ready to bite your head off. "I gave you an or-"
"It's alright, Captain," Edith interrupts. "I think it might be best for them to stay and discuss things. As for the kaiju we've read about in BioSyn's files. We first have a group of gigantic praying mantises that have been dubbed "Kamacuras". Supposedly, these are the most abundant of the kaiju on this island. There are also references to a gigantic spider called "Kumonga", who apparently preys upon these giant mantises. There are also references to a giant, cackling, mutated toad referred to as "Gabara". Lastly, there are some vague references to a monster sleeping in a cave that nobody was brave enough to investigate further."
She turns her attention back to the commanders and chief. "We believe that the handheld maser cannons should be more than enough to deal with any Kamacuras, but the others are less certain. We plan to see if these creatures are still there, if they match the reports we've read, and if there are any other beasts on the island. The unidentified creature in the cave is of particular interest."
"If this island is full of these beasts, we should send in the Super-X and destroy them all!" Gyozen insists.
"They've been isolated on this island for years," Edith reminds him. "None have escaped to terrorize any civilized areas."
"We should study them rather than harm them," Mafune chimes in. "An isolated population of kaiju to research is a scientific gold mine."
"I concur," Namikawa speaks up. "This is a research opportunity we cannot ignore."
"And when these beasts decide to leave the island in search of new territory?" Gyozen brazenly retorts.
"*If* that happens, we will do what we must," Namikawa reassures him, her tone hard with irritation at his outburst. "We will set up a KRF outpost on or near the islands to guard our researchers and prevent any kaiju escapes."
You're surprised Gyozen had apparently not already expected that. The KRF has outposts across the globe near confirmed and suspected kaiju. From the volcano in Mexico where another Rodan is believed to slumber, to the Aztec temple further South where strange energy readings have been detected, to the place where "Behemoth" slumbers in the Sahara desert in Egypt, to even the lake from which Varan emerged, the KRF has observers and soldiers standing ready to deal with kaiju threats.
"I understand," Gyozen says, his voice slightly more subdued as he backs down from further arguments with the Chief.

"As for the other islands," Edith speaks up. "We don't know much about what is on them. However, with how close they are to this Monster Island, and the disappearances of ships in the area, we suspect at least one other kaiju either in the sea between the islands, or living on one of the islands. We plan on figuring that out first hand."
The meeting wraps up soon after, following basic discussions of the overall goals, and what limited information Solstice Technologies has on the islands. It doesn't amount to much beyond what you've already been told, but does include a reminder that, at least at one point, people lived on this Monster Island.
Pentecost, who had remained silent for the majority of the meeting, reminds Edith that the information gained from this expedition is of the utmost importance, and needs to be shared with the KRF. You get the feeling that he was also somewhat speaking to you and the others who will be accompanying her, reminding you to keep your eyes and ears open, and provide as much information as possible when you return. Commander Jourdain, on the other hand, adds nothing to the discussion, though you can tell that he is listening intently.
"Will three soldiers be enough for such a dangerous journey?" Namikawa asks. "We could arrange for more to join you, or even send Jet Jaguar."
Jet Jaguar is a highly advanced robot built sometime in the 1970s for unknown reasons. Able to think and learn on its own, the machine is also capable of changing from human to kaiju size as needed. He has been deployed to deal with kaiju threats in the past, such as arriving in New York in 2008 to defeat the creature "Clover" that the US military proved unable to kill. The android defeated the monster in a fight, and tossed it back into the sea. When it resurfaced near New Jersey a few months later, Jet Jaguar was sent immediately, and slew the monster by flying into its mouth before growing into its full, greater size. Aside from perhaps the Super-X, Jet Jaguar is the greatest weapon in the KRF's arsenal.
"Oh, I think these three should be enough," Edith says easily, shrugging one shoulder. "Unless they aren't confident in their abilities."

Ngl I specifically pitched an M.I.T. degree in the hopes it would lead to based mecha antics and was thinking of Jet Jaguar in particular.
Did anyone here watch Godzilla Singular Point? I had my complaints but credit where it's due - their version of Jet was awesome and they were definitely bringing some very fresh ideas to the franchise. It's crazy how even the kinda mids Godzilla stuff still always has SOMETHING inarguably badass and cool and interesting somewhere in the mix.

The idea of Jet Jaguar accompanying you is certainly appealing. Having studied robotics at M.I.T., a robot such as him is incredibly fascinating. Jet Jaguar does things that even today should be impossible for any man-made machine to do, and he was built all the way back in the 1970's. It would be incredible to spend time observing such an amazing machine. And besides that, should this expedition turn up more dangerous kaiju, having Jet Jaguar to protect everyone could be a literal lifesaver.
So, you decide to once again speak up, and voice your opinion that Jet Jaguar should come along.
"I think that a wise idea," Commander Jourdain finally speaks up.
"Very well, we'll dispatch Jet Jaguar along with you," Chief Namikawa announces.
"Alright," Edith replies, not seeming too bothered to go along with the suggestion. "I would like to see this legendary robot up close."
"Now, I think that's everything," Commander Pentecost tells everyone.
"Yes," Chief Namikawa agrees. "You three are dismissed. Go get your gear and prepare for departure."
The three of you salute the Chief, then go to your rooms to gather your gear, mostly clothing more suited for tropical weather than the typical gear you use in this Antarctic base. Tarek is there and awake this time.
"I heard you got assigned to protect some big business woman," he says, not sounding overly impressed. Perhaps he thinks it's simply a kind of babysitting, or perhaps he's trying to mask some envy at getting such an assignment. He likely doesn't know what exactly you're helping miss Winter do, in any case. "Well, good luck. I'd hate to have to get used to a new bunkmate."

I watched the first episode. I have to admit to being a bit of a midwit, and some of the concepts of the show are hard to follow for me. From what I understand, Jet carried the show pretty hard.

The Godzilla Earth were a little lame, yeah, but the idea of each central Kaiju (Godzilla, Mechagozilla, and Ghidorah) being almost a setting unto themselves, evovled into monsters who reshape the surroundings? pretty cool conceptually. Singular Point is almost that but just better-execited, IMO.

In his way, he wished you well, so you decide to be polite and thank him for it. You express gratitude for the well wishes, and promise to do your best to stay alive. While you're speaking to him, however, you decide to ask if he knows anything about the company that turned an island into a monster land. So, you ask him if he knows anything about BioSyn.
"Yeah, I've heard of them," he tells you to your mild surprise. "They were trying to make inroads into my home country when I was just a kid. They were a bio-research company working on genetic engineering to create medicines, pesticides, fertilizers, and supposedly are a major reason that cloning is so regulated these days. Their company got kicked out of the country when it came to the light that they were testing some of their products on civilians without their knowledge or consent, and caused about a dozen deaths from it."
Edith had mentioned that BioSyn had done a lot of things that eventually got the feds on their case. If this is the kind of stuff they were up to, you're surprised that they lasted as long as they did. The cloning part is a bit interesting, as you remember that there was a book by a Doctor Ian Malcolm discussing a company called Ingen that allegedly was cloning dinosaurs. Pretty much everyone dismisses it as ridiculous, even to this day, and even with all the discoveries of giant monsters and even living dinosaurs, but part of you wonders if companies like Ingen and BioSyn really were experimenting with cloning extinct creatures.
Maybe you'll get some answers on this expedition? Who knows?
Getting your gear together, and bidding Tarek farewell, you leave your room behind, not knowing when you'll be back. That's one thing that never came up in the briefing, a solid timeframe. Nevertheless, you have a job to do, and you will see it through. Making your way through the base, you find Absko already waiting at the helipad with miss Winter, and Lena shows up shortly after. The four of you climb aboard, and the helicopter takes off.
You're about to comment on Jet Jaguar's apparent absence, but as the helicopter begins moving away from the base, you look out the window to see the robot flying beside it, keeping pace with the aircraft. With its arms held out past its head, it's flying like a superhero. He certainly does have the appearance of one, being reminiscent of Ultraman, or that strange Zone-Fighter movie that was a made a few decades back. It's really no wonder, then, that Jet Jaguar is one of the major sources of income for the KRF outside of direct funding. With toys, movies, clothing lines, tv shows and more based on this machine being sold to the public, he's been great at drawing in extra funding for the organization.
Edith and the others are also watching the machine with apparent interest, though after a few moments, miss Winter turns her attention to the three of you.

You decide to keep quiet for the rest of the flight. Allowing yourself to sit back and enjoy the view, you see the breathtaking scenery of Antarctica, and the open ocean as you make your way away from the frozen continent. Jet Jaguar keeps pace with your helicopter the entire flight, and you once again find yourself marveling at the incredible machine that fights for the KRF. How a human scientist decades ago created something like this is a true mystery. You know a thing or two about robotics and coding, and this is absolutely mind-blowing. Perhaps on this mission you'll get to see more of this machine's impressive abilities.
At one point, Jet Jaguar looks over to you and gives a thumbs up.
Finally, you reach a massive ship, looking like a mix between a cargo transport, scientific vessel, and warship. It even has a helipad waiting for you, and as you touch down, Edith is the first to unbuckle and get out of her seat. She waits for the door to be opened, then climbs out, a bunch of security people saluting her as she strides confidently forward.
"Welcome, Lady and Gentlemen, to the Equinox," she says, gesturing to the massive ship. "The greatest research and transportation vessel that Solstice Technologies has to offer. I'll have some of the boys bring your things to your cabins. And feel free to ask the crew for any food and drinks you like."
"On our present course, we should reach our destination in about two hours, ma'am," a gray-bearded man addresses as Edith and your group approach.
"Very good, captain," she replies. "You three, make yourselves comfortable."

With two hours to kill before you reach the island, you decide to do something some might call "foolish". Or perhaps "crazy", "stupid", or more charitably, "bold". Whatever, you don't really care what other people have to say about this. What this is to you is an opportunity to live a lifelong dream of seeing Jet Jaguar's skills up close.
As the robot lands aboard the ship, you approach him. From what you've heard of Jet Jaguar, the robot is perfectly capable of understanding human languages, including English. So, as you make your request, you can tell that it comprehends your request, though its silent staring over the next several moments causes you to question what exactly it might be thinking about that question of yours.
Nevertheless, it gives you a thumbs up after a few moments, accompanied by the strange noise it seems to make virtually every time it moves. It isn't programmed to speak, but it still makes that sound. Curious.
"Are you out of your mind?" Lena asks from behind you, obvious shock and concern in her voice. "You want to fight Jet Jaguar?"
"I don't think you stand a chance," Absko adds helpfully. "You're going to be punching and kicking pure metal."
That's a fair argument, but the opportunity to see this machine's combat protocols up close is simply too enticing a proposition to ignore.
Edith, to her credit, leads you and Jet to the shipboard gym, where she steps aside to watch, along with several off-duty crew members, and your two comrades from the KRF. Jet walks to a position in the middle of the room, turning to face you as you take position opposite him. The two of you stand, preparing to fight, while the others watch on in varying degrees of disbelief.

Attacking a metal man and trying to punch him into submission is just stupid. Attacking from behind would at least make it more difficult for him to counter, but you still aren't sure how much you could accomplish. And trying to block and parry a robot's punches seems like it might be an exercise in futility.
There is one possibility that comes to mind, however. Jet is surely strong, and made of metal, but like anything else, he requires balance to remain upright. That may be your chance. If you can take his legs out from under him, you will have the advantage, for whatever that's worth in such a fight.
It's worth a shot.
Dropping to the ground, you sweep with your leg, trying to knock Jet's legs out from under him. Immediately, you feel some sharp pain from slamming your leg against solid metal. However, it works. It's not a clean sweep like you might have hoped, but what it does successfully do is knock him off-balance. The robot falls backward and lands hard on his back.
Rising quickly to your feet, you attempt to stomp the robot, only for him to catch your foot and throw you backward to the ground. As you hit the mat, he rises back to his feet, though his somewhat stiff movements make it take long enough for you to get back to your feet.
You've done better against Jet than anyone was probably expecting, but now what?

Okay, so far, so surprisingly good. That last approach probably won't work a second time. In fact, nothing you do is likely to work, but your parents didn't raise a quitter or a coward. You're going to go for it yet again, but how? Maybe a head-on flying kick will catch him by surprise and knock him over again? Knocking him off balance does seem to be the best you can really hope for at this point, so might as well give it a try.
With a yell, you charge your opponent, who gets prepared for you to throw a punch or kick. He isn't ready for the sudden flying attack you throw his way. Well, not entirely. His hands, already raised to block an expected punch or kick, come up the rest of the way to block your flying kick. However, he's a moment too late, and while he does stop you from kicking him in the face, he's still pushed off-balance and falls backward. However, he pushes back with his hands, throwing you onto your back just as he falls down.
Groaning a bit, you get to your feet an instant before Jet does, but now he's in a more readied defensive stance, apparently having learned that you can be tricky.
You don't hear anything from the crowd aside from a few whispers, which you suspect means that you're doing much better than they expected. Understandable, even you didn't think you'd do this well. Sure, you're hardly winning, but knocking the mighty Jet Jaguar back is a big deal.

At this point, you've caught Jet Jaguar by surprise twice. Maybe your attacks have been something Jet didn't expect from you, maybe you were thinking well and going for wise stratagems, or perhaps you were simply lucky. No matter the case, you've done a good job, and better than you or probably anyone else likely expected. Still, "better than expected" in this case more or less translates to falling down the same amount of times as your opponent. And while you're getting sore and winded, your opponent has no such weaknesses. You could stand here and punch or kick him all day, and not hurt him at all while severely wounding yourself. Truthfully, this was a fight that you knew you stood no chance of winning, but the opportunity to fight the legendary Jet Jaguar was just too incredible to pass up.
Now, however, is the time to decide what to do next. Jet's standing there, ready for anything you can throw at him. And if you delay too long, he'll likely go on the offensive, which you have little to no hope of fending off.
The choice is obvious.
You give a respectful bow to the machine, then lift your hands in surrender as you rise to stand once more. Jet seems to understand your meaning just fine and drops out of his combat stance, bowing in return before simply returning to his normal, casual stance. While you still have his attention, you thank him for indulging you while praising his superior strength and combat skills, making it clear that you understand you'd never beat him. You thank him for allowing you to observe his combat skills up close and personal. Then, you ask if he can give you some tips, advice, or new moves.
Jet does an exaggerated shrug, making the same noise he always does, reminding you that he can't speak, much less give in-depth advice.
Oh well.
"Not bad, Alonso," Absko says, clapping you on the back as he and Lena come over to you. "Those were some good moves, man."
"You were pretty good," Lena agrees, giving you a small smile. "But I'm glad you decided to bow out before you got hurt. "
"Not bad at all, Alonso," Edith compliments, the expression on her face making it clear that this whole sparring match has amused her greatly. "Consider me reassured that the KRF sent people who know how to handle themselves. Just don't try to fistfight any kaiju we come across, alright?"

I wasn't sure if JJ was able to at least communicate with gestures or ASL or something, maybe enough to show us something. Maybe helping him to communicate is something that Alonso can make into a pet project? I noticed the Jaeger program got a quick cameo as something that was tried and scrapped... Making a mental note to maybe look out for a lead on some of that Mental Handshake tech. Did anybody other than me watch Pacific Rim: The Black (I think it was called), the anime series that Netflix did? Honestly some insanely cool and creative ideas there around how that tech could be used outside of mechs - I recall a guy using it to implant memories and read people's thoughts to control them, and I think an engineer had to do a bunch of handshakes with some mercenaries, which caused him to lose some of his technical knowhow but he suddenly became a much more proficient fighter and shooter.

Part of you wants to make a witty remark about not making promises. Part of you just wants to say "alright" and not be a smartass or worry anyone. In the end, you elect to just keep your mouth shut on the subject, unsure if you can promise not to do anything stupid, but also not wanting to be all flippant with the person whose safety has been placed in your hands. Maybe you should simply change the subject to something else, such as your hunger. You haven't eaten since breakfast this morning.
Remembering Edith's assurance that you could ask the crew for food and drink whenever you like, you decide to take her up on that offer, requesting something to eat and an accompanying beverage. It isn't long until you're enjoying some delicious food in a quiet part of the ship. Used to the okay, but nothing special food of your base, such delicious food is a welcome treat. After finishing your meal, you rejoin the others for the remainder of the journey.
The Captain's estimate was right on the money, as roughly two hours after your chopper touched down, you spot the island in the distance. It is a sea of green in the middle of an ocean of blue, covered in large trees making up an impressive forest that you can easily see from your boat.
Soon, you are approached by members of the crew, who hand you and each of your friends handheld maser cannons like the one you saw demonstrated back a the base. It's a fairly heavy weapon, but nothing you can't use effectively. Once you and the others are armed, you load into lifeboats along with Edith and three of her bodyguards. It isn't long before you set foot on the sandy beaches of Sollgel Island.
All of the armed individuals, yourself included, take up positions and look for any signs of danger. So far, you see nothing aside from a few tropical birds flying through the air. No signs of any kaiju. Not yet, at least.
"Alright," miss Winter speaks up. "We know the location of BioSyn's old research station, the cave where the unknown kaiju dwells, and Kumonga's lair."

Any one of those locations is worth investigating. The research station, assuming it hasn't been completely destroyed, is sure to contain some valuable information for your group to find. Kumonga's lair would provide you the opportunity to study the massive spider up-close, but also could put you in an extremely dangerous fight. Even with Jet Jaguar present, you have no way of knowing for certain that he'll defeat Kumonga before the spider can kill you and the others, or that you wouldn't accidentally be crushed in the struggle. Edith seemed uncertain if her handheld maser cannons would be enough to face such a beast.
There's also the cave. Whatever is in there, even BioSyn didn't want to tangle with it. And according to Edith, the data she was able to find on the kaiju in the cave was vague to the point where even she probably has no idea what to expect. It could be another Godzilla for all that you know, another Gappa, there's no telling.
You do consider just letting her choose, but you feel that the research station is a good start, and think it best to make your opinion known. So, you do just that, and suggest the research station as the first destination.
"Abandoned buildings get infested," you add. "So unless it's an underground bunker with no other access, I'm sure we'll find some squatter there. We need to be alert and careful."
"Always," Absko assures you, looking every bit ready and alert for whatever threats may present themselves.
"The station might also have information on Kumonga, Kamacuras, and whatever's in that cave," Lena adds.
"Alright then, we'll go there first," Edith agrees.
With that, Edith leads the way as you venture into the dense jungle. You hear the sounds of birds and other creatures moving through the undergrowth, but at first see no signs of any kaiju. However, as you get deeper in, you find a downed tree with a skeleton at its base.
Whatever this thing was, you've never encountered its like before, or even so much as heard of it. It's big, about twelve feet tall by your reckoning. It has two large forelimbs but no back legs. Its skull reminds you of dinosaurs or other ancient reptiles, and is filled to the brim with jagged teeth. After a moment, you realize that there's a second skeleton within this one. The second skeleton is undoubtedly human.
"Do you know what that is?" Absko asks Edith.
"No," she answers, studying the skeletons carefully. "But keep your eyes open in case there are more."
Your group continues onward, eventually coming to the edge of a massive clearing. On the far end, you can see the partially-destroyed remains of the old research center. However, between your side of the clearing and that side, you spot a trio of colossal mantises milling about.
Kamacuras.

You could try sneaking past these things, but if you're halfway there and the mantises see you, they're going to catch you, possibly before you even realize that you've been seen. You could send Jet Jaguar in to battle, but a three-on-one fight might be too much even for the mighty android. You've got these weapons, right? Might as well put them to the test and see what they can do. It's better to get the jump on them now and just shoot them. You aren't really sure about ammo conservation, here, but taking out three kaiju is probably well worth whatever the cost is. Doctor Mafune may be disappointed, but there might be others around here somewhere, and besides, plenty can be learned from the corpse.
You heft your gun, shouting to the others. "Open fire!"
Absko and Lena raise their weapons, and a moment after them, so do the Solstice bodyguards. Six small maser shots streak across the clearing, striking all three of the mantises, which let out sounds of what you imagine are pain and surprise.
One of the creatures turns to the group and begins walking toward you, but all six of the next fired shots strike it. Parts of its carapace smoke, and even burst into flames as the combined force of the blasts pushes it onto its back. Its legs begin curling toward its body, and you suspect that it will not be getting back up.
Another takes to the sky and flies toward you, only to be shot down by another six shots. Its flaming corpse lands not far in front of your group. The final mantis turns and flees, taking to the air and quickly getting out of range of your guns.
Oh well, two out of three isn't bad.
"Nice shooting, people," Edith compliments as she starts across the clearing.
Jet Jaguar follows her at once, followed by her security. You and your fellow KRF members take up the rear. The smell of burning kaiju assails your nose, but neither of the downed creatures do anything more than twitch as you pass them. Absko, for his part, blasts each one when they twitch, making sure they're down for good.
Reaching the half-destroyed remains of the research center, you cautiously step inside, Lena and Absko at your back. You take a look around, seeing no signs of any imminent attack. Still, you have no idea what could be in there.
There are some flickering computer screens, indicating that what's left of this place is still getting some power. There are also various papers and journals in varying conditions scattered around the area.

But what you soon notice is the large, foamy, rocklike substance covering the far side of the center, stretching from the floor to the top of the ceiling less section of wall, and apparently beyond. You point the weird egg casing out to Edith, whose eyes widen in surprise as a smile momentarily comes to her face. She quickly returns to her neutral expression as she approaches the casing to get a closer look. Her bodyguards tense and go to keep a closer eye on her, guns aimed at the casing in case it suddenly bursts with a bunch of baby Kamacuras.
"Oh, this is perfect," Edith declares as she pulls out a light and shines it on the casing, leaning closer to it. "I'll contact the Equinox and get some people here to collect the eggs. Good work, Alonso. Very very good."
Leaving her and her people to their work, you make your way over to the computers. Lena, meanwhile, begins flipping through papers and journals. Absko keeps his eyes and gun on the egg casing. As Edith examines the eggs and Lena does her reading, you attempt to get the computers up and running.
It takes a little doing, but you studied code along with your studies on robotics at M.I.T., which gives you just enough know-how to get the computers back on. They are not in good shape by any means, and you figure that you're getting less than half the data they once held. Still, it's better than nothing. Whatever data you can salvage has got to be worth something.
The first thing you find is an order to all BioSyn employees to gather all equipment and data, wipe the computers, and evacuate the island. It seems that, for whatever reason, those orders were not followed. Going back a little further, you find references to creatures that sound quite similar to the skeleton you saw on your way. They refer to these creatures as "Skull Crawlers", and say that they've been encountered all across the island, with the greatest concentration being near that cave that Edith had mentioned. You find references to Kumonga, and how he has been seen consuming at least four of the Kamacuras. Finally, you find some sort of chemical compound that you can't make much sense of. It may be worth reporting to Edith. But, what if it's what created some of these monstrosities? Would it be better to put it in the hands of Solstice Technologies and the KRF, or destroy it to make sure that nobody can ever use it again.

You ponder the idea of just deleting the compound. It would be less of a risk that way, right? But, you were sent here on a mission, sent because your higher-ups trust Edith and trust Solstice Technologies. You shouldn't second-guess that. It's not your job.
"You might want to see this," you tell Edith, gesturing her over.
The woman looks irritated at being torn away from the amazing discover that you've already shown her. Nevertheless, she comes over to you and has a look at the computer screen, eyed widening ever-so-slightly as she realizes what she's looking at. Her focus is immediately turned away from the eggs and is now squarely on the computer.
"Alonso, you are making my day," she tells you. "If you ever leave the KRF, give us a call. Solstice Technologies can definitely use someone like you."
After that compliment, she seems to largely forget your presence as she becomes laser-focused on examining what you've shown her. Deciding to leave her to it, you make your way over to Lena, who is seemingly trying to devour every scrap of information with her eyes.
"What have you found?" you ask as you approach, hoping that her clear fascination with these notes means she's found something worthwhile.
At first, she repeats some things that you've already seen, like Kumonga eating at least four of the Kamacuras, or the strange thing you saw on the way being a Skullcrawler. But then, she starts talking about the cave.
"One of these journals is in pretty good shape," she tells you. "It talks about when the writer and a few others went into that cave miss Winter mentioned. So, they found some paintings from the locals there. It seems that they painted themselves living among a group of massive apes. Then, they painted those skullcrawlers rising from beneath the Earth, killing a bunch of great apes and driving many of their people to flee in different directions. One painting depicts some going to an island where a dinosaur dwells. Others went to an island where some squid or something was. Some went to an island where a great moth lives. And lastly, some went to an island where a great ape is. They interviewed some of the surviving tribals on this island and got names of the creatures. "Gorosaurus", "Gezora", "Mothra", and "Kong".
She looks like an excited kid. "Do you get it? That's what's on these other islands. Living dinosaurs, giant squids, Mothra, and....do you think it's related to the King Kong from back in the 1930's?"

You can't be positive, but you bet that he is, and you tell Lena as much. After all, with a giant ape called "Kong", you only see so many options, and you sincerely doubt that Donkey Kong is on that island. Maybe it's the case that the apes that attacked Hong Kong and South Korea were also related to King Kong.
"That's three new kaiju we've learned about, four if we're counting the Skullcrawlers," Lena sums up. "And we've learned that the people of Sollgel island learned about Moth-wait."
She looks past your shoulder toward a piece of paper on the ground. Circling around you, she kneels down and examines it, picking it up.
"Axor...." she mutters. "It says here that the natives were afraid of something called "Axor" on a place called "Storm Island". I guess that makes five new kaiju, then. It doesn't say anything about what this thing looks like, though, or where Storm Island is. Let me see if I can find anything about which island is which...."
She returns to going through papers, and so you stand guard over the two women in the room as they continue to look for and examine information. Absko is doing the same, as are the trio of Solstice Security guards. It's a little while before anything happens, though Lena does eventually come running over to you, showing you a map she found labeling various islands.
"There's Storm Island," she points to on the map. "Axor is there. There's Mondo Island, where Gorosaurus lives. Then there's Letchi Island, where Kong lives, and Sergio Island, where Gezora is . And of course, Infant Island, where we'd find Mothra."
"What have you found?" Edith asks, approaching the two of you.
Lena shows her the map and explains what she's learned about the monsters of the various islands. Edith listens intently, then claps her hands together.
"Well, I think we've got what we need on this island," she announces. "We can find out more about the native kaiju when we set up our joint research facility. I've got people coming to help us collect the eggs, and once we've moved them, I think we should decide which island to visit next."

You're kind of excited to see more kaiju up close and personal, but it occurs to you that going into this blind is probably not a good idea. It would probably be best if you asked the locals about these creatures so you have some idea of what you're walking into. And, speaking your mind has been going well enough for you so far, so why not? You suggest finding the locals and seeing what they know.
Lena's expression falls, and you get the feeling you know what she's about to say before the words even leave her mouth. "I don't think there are any people left on this island. From BioSyn's notes, their research killed a lot of them, and then the monsters got those that were left. The only survivors were the ones that fled to other islands."
"What I read before we got here said pretty much the same thing," Edith confirms. "There are a lot of reasons that BioSyn went belly-up."
From what your bunkmate told you, perhaps you shouldn't be surprised.
"Alright then, how about we go to Letchi Island?" you suggest.
"Kong's place, huh?" Edith asks. "Fine, just make sure you keep close watch on me and Lena here. Especially her, actually. The first King Kong apparently had a thing for blondes."
You do remember hearing the story of how he abducted an actress and climbed to the top of the Empire State Building with her. It might be wise to keep a closer eye on Lena.
Your group returns to the ship, at which point several of the eggs are loaded into a helicopter.
"These are going to Solstice Technologies," Edith explains as the chopper lifts off. "We'll send the rest back with you three when the expedition is over."
Letchi Island isn't far, but your ship doesn't get there before you see your next kaiju. Or, at least, part of it. As you approach the island, barely spotting it in the distance, a colossal red claw emerges from beneath the waves, slamming into the ship and causing it to rock back and forth as if in the grip of powerful waves.
"What in the world?!" Edith shouts. "Hey, get your cannons ready!"
You hear a strange noise, and the rest of the monster emerges from under the surf. What you're looking at appears to be a colossal shrimp. Oxymoronic though that may be, that's what you're seeing. The colossal creature begins lifting its claws to strike again.

Abandoning ship is not an option. Edith is right, the only thing to do is shoot this thing and either kill it or drive it away from the ship.
You heft your gun and take aim. Generally, when using a gun, you are trained to shoot at the center of mass, but you also know that even shrimp can have hard outer shells, so shooting this thing in the face or over its body may not grant the results you'd like. You aren't sure that the firepower of these weapons will be enough to kill the beast, but if you're more careful about where you aim, perhaps you can cripple it, or at the very least hurt it enough for it to retreat from its attack on the ship.
The beast's claws slam against the ship once again, causing it to rock violently. You hear screams as crewmembers are thrown overboard.
"Aim for its arms!" you shout to the others as you take aim. "Try to blast its claws off!"
Absko and Lena are with you in an instant, and after a few moments, so are Edith's bodyguards and some of the crewmen. The blue lights of the maser guns shoot toward the attacking beast as it raises a claw for another strike. Some go a bit wide and strike the creature's body, but at least three hit its thin arm. The creature shrieks in pain and quickly falls back into the water, vanishing beneath the surface.
"Keep your eyes out!" Absko cautions. "It might not be done with us yet."
Sure enough, it isn't. You hear screams, and look over the side of the ship to see that one of the men who went over the edge is impaled upon the beast's claw, dragged beneath the surface. A moment later, you are nearly thrown overboard yourself as the creature hits the boat from below. Luckily, Lena grabs you at the last moment, keeping you from falling.
Another cry from the creature causes the two of you to turn to the other side of the boat, where the monster has surfaced once more.
"Again!" Absko calls out, aiming his gun and firing at the monster's arm.
Lena and yourself, along with the other armed individuals do the same, and once more fire at the beast, once again striking both its arms and its body, and causing it to shriek in pain. It flails around a bit, sweeping a handful of men overboard with its massive claws, before diving back beneath the waves in the face of another maser barrage.
This time, it does not return to attack again. Instead, as one of the watchmen points out, it swims in the direction of Letchi Island. With the beast gone for the moment, efforts are made to recover those that were cast overboard. Most are safely returned to the ship, but a few do not make it back.
"Well, that explains the missing ships," Edith deduces, her expression surprisingly neutral despite all that has just occurred. "And it looks like Kong isn't the only monster of Letchi Island."

Our objective here is jot to avoid kaiju, but to study them. That may incur losses, and while we should avoid those, they didn't send a squad of soldiers with anti-monster weapons so we could play it super-safe.
Besides, Ebirah knoes to avoid us now. Anywhere else we go, there will STILL be kaiju, and we'll need to put the fear into them all over again.

Giving it a moment of thought, you remind yourself that your objective here isn't to avoid kaiju, but to learn about them. Yes, there may be losses. But while you should avoid those losses as much as possible, they didn't send a group of soldiers with anti-kaiju weapons just so you could play it overly cautious. The only way to be super-safe on a mission like this is to avoid kaiju at all costs, and that is not why you were sent here.
Besides, the more you think about it, that shrimp monster knows to avoid you and the ship now. And anywhere else you go, there are going to be kaiju. And you'd have to start all over in getting the kaiju in those locales to be afraid of you. Why start from the beginning? You've also got Jet Jaguar, who pulled several people safely from the ocean. He didn't even have to get involved in that last fight, and if things get really bad, you know he can protect you and the others.
"We should continue to Letchi Island," you suggest to Edith and the captain. "All of this just makes the island more worthy of further investigation."
The captain looks to you. "Are you mad? We're lucky to have survived battling that thing, and who knows what else is on that damned island?"
You reply with the arguments you'd already gone over in your head. The captain seems largely unconvinced, but fortunately for you, it isn't him that you have to persuade.
"He's right," Edith speaks up after your back-and-forth with the captain. "Letchi Island just got even more interesting. Maintain course and speed, captain."
"Miss Winter...." the Captain begins to protest.
"That's an order, captain," she naps. "If you value your job, you will follow it."
The Captain sighs heavily. "Aye, ma'am."
The ship approaches the island, and as everyone prepares to load into smaller boats to approach the shore, one of the watchmen suddenly calls out in alarm.
"There's someone on the beach!" he announces, worry in his voice. "She seems to be trying to get our attention. She...she's being chased by men in military uniforms with guns."
"Jet, please, help her!" Lena requests of your robot companion.
Jet quickly springs into action, taking to the air and swiftly flying to the island. By the time you, your two fellow KRF soldiers, and Edith along with her bodyguards reach the shore, you find Jet standing over a group of unconscious men. They're all Asian: a mix of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese men. You don't recognize their uniforms, however. Hiding behind Jet is the woman the watchman spotted.
"Hey, we're not going to hurt you," Lena tells her gently.
"She probably doesn't understand English," Absko suggests, and you can almost hear him rolling his eyes.
"Actually, I understand just fine," she says, stepping out from behind the robot and letting everyone get a good look at her.
She's a beautiful young woman, and her outfit suggests that she's likely a native to this island.

"Well, that's helpful," Absko remarks, having the sense to look a little bashful as Lena gives him a smug look. "We're with a group called the Kaiju Response Force. I'm Absko, this is Lena. He's Alonso, and she's Edith."
The three bodyguard also introduce themselves as Jackson, Michael, and Robert.
"My name is Dayo," the woman introduces herself. "What is a kaiju?"
"A giant monster," Lena answers.
"Like the monsters of the Red Bamboo," Dayo replies, her tone one of comprehension.
"Red Bamboo?" Edith asks. "These men are part of the Red Bamboo?"
Dayo nods.
Seeing a lack of recognition on the faces of the others, Edith explains. "The Red Bamboo are a terrorist organization. They started in China, trying to take over the government, take control of its nuclear weapons, and rapidly expand to conquer other territories. They were stopped, but some members escaped and recruited people from the Koreas, Japan, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and probably others. Looks like we found where they scurried off to."
"The Red Bamboo have enslaved the people of Letchi Island, and taken some of us from Infant Island," Dayo explains. "We are forced to work as slaves, and if we try to escape, they send Ebirah or Ōkondoru after us."
"Eibar and Ōkondoru?" Lena asks.
"A giant sea monster, and a giant bird," Dayo explains.

"What about Kong?" you ask. "Isn't he on this island?"
Dayo looks surprised that you know about Kong. That surprise vanishes quickly as she gives you your answer.
"The people of this island insist that he is here somewhere, sleeping," she answers. "When I escaped the Red Bamboo, I knew I could not get off of this island, so I decided to go and find Kong. So far, I have not found him, but before I was spotted by the Red Bamboo, I found a cave that I hadn't explored yet. Maybe he's in there."
"What about Mothra?" you ask. "Doesn't she care about the people of Infant Island?"
Dayo's expression becomes one of anger as she answers defensively. "Mothra does care for her people. She cares for the whole world! But she has grown old, and with the Red Bamboo taking our people, she cannot leave Infant Island undefended. Each day our people pray that she gathers her strength and delivers us all from the Red Bamboo."

One thing is for sure, the Red Bamboo cannot be allowed to continue. What exactly you can do about it is more in question. The six of you are heavily armed, but will that be enough in the face of a terrorist organization and its kaiju? That's a somewhat distant hope at best. Still, you aren't going to give up on this.
'We need to stop the Red Bamboo," you declare to the others. "But we might need backup. This is more than we bargained for."
"Even if we get backup, what's the plan?" Absko asks you, sounding uncertain. "INTERPOL isn't exactly equipped to deal with this, and our people are trained to fight monsters, not people."
"We can start by exploring the cave," you recommend.
Maybe Kong's in there, and if he is some sort of god to the islanders, maybe he'll help them out. Another distant hope, perhaps, but it's worth a try.
"I'll get us some backup," Edith assures you. "Come on boys, back to the ship."

You allow Edith to go back to the ship without you. Lena, however, insisting that at least one of you should be sticking with miss Winter, goes with her and the bodyguards as they climb into the lifeboat and make their way back to the ship. Absko, for his part, is locked and loaded, ready to face the Red Bamboo and whatever else this island has to offer. Dayo, being the one who knows where the cave is, naturally remains with the two of you. So there you are, two soldiers armed with portable maser cannons and an islander who you now see is armed with a dagger. The three of you are going to try to find and awaken a kaiju while evading the forces of a deadly terrorist organization.
No, make that four. Jet Jaguar is still with you.
And so, your suddenly smaller group begins its journey. Dayo leads the way, taking you through a winding trail leading partway up a high, rocky cliff overlooking the beach. Palm trees grant cover at the beginning of that trail, but soon you're all exposed on the cliffside. Furthermore, at that point you have to climb over the rocky cliff face to get to the top. Well, you three humans do. Jet Jaguar just flies the rest of the way up. You aren't sure that he's built for scaling cliff faces anyway. You and Absko have the physical training to handle it readily enough, and Dayo proves herself quite athletic by climbing to the top without much visible difficulty.
Atop the cliff, you see before you a large stretch of thick vegetation, mostly palm trees. Many of these trees hold ripe fruits of various kinds. More importantly, however, these trees provide visual cover. As the three of you make your way through this stretch of foliage, you still keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of the Red Bamboo. This proves to be prudent, as it allows you to narrowly avoid a patrol of the terrorists, and furthermore hear a snippet of their conversation.
"....Dr. Who won't be happy if we lose an entire squad on top of that slave woman," you manage to catch before the group of soldiers are out of earshot.
"Doctor Who?" Absko questions quietly. "Like that TV show?"
Dayo looks confused, likely not getting much television on Infant Island. "Doctor Who is their leader, I think. I've heard their soldiers and Commander talk about him from time to time. He demands that we create a special liquid to keep Ebirah from attacking their ships, and has some of us mine for materials for something he's been building."
Well, now for whatever it's worth, you have a name for their leadership.
Finally, you come to the other side of the palm trees, where Dayo leads you in scaling partway down another cliff face, stopping on a narrow ledge. Following her lead, you find yourself standing at the small entrance to the cave she had mentioned, hidden there on the ledge.

Absko elects to take the lead as you and Dayo follow him inside. Thankfully, there's light provided by a large hole in the cave ceiling. There's not a lot of room for the three of you to move around before you come to a ledge. It also isn't long before the sound of loud snoring draws your attention over the ledge and down to the cave floor below.
There, slumbering on a pile of stone, is a colossal gorilla.
Kong.
The King Kong of the 1930s was roughly the size of a large dinosaur. This one, however, is of such a size as to be in the same category as other kaiju you've encountered. If this thing really is a guardian to the people of Letchi island, then it must be a formidable guardian indeed.
"There he is!" Dayo speaks with great excitement. "Now if we could just find a way to wake him up...."
"No way," Absko tells her hotly. "If we do anything with this ape, it should be killing it before it wakes up."
"He's a protector to the people of this island," Dayo protests. "Until Mothra awakes, he's the only chance we have of stopping the Red Bamboo."
"I thought you said Mothra was guarding Infant Island," Absko counters.
Dayo looks slightly bashful. "She is, but right now, she is sleeping to regain her strength. We pray for her to awaken in her power and defeat this dark enemy."
Alright, so Mothra might not be coming any time soon.

"How do we wake this monkey up without getting stomped on?" you ask Dayo, not having any really good ideas yourself.
You could shoot him with a maser blast, but that might kill him if you're unlucky, or it might just make him wake up angry. You could try and push some heavy rocks down onto him, but that raises the same risks as the maser plan. You consider just making a lot of noise to awaken the beast, but that could also attract the notice of a Red Bamboo patrol, or wake Kong up surprised and angry. You have Jet Jaguar if either scenario occurs, but it would make a mess of things.
Dayo, looking slightly perturbed by you referring to Kong as a monkey, looks to be thinking things over.
"The Letchi Islanders told me of a song and dance they once used to appease Kong when he was young," she tells you after a moment. "I think I remember how it went."
Absko shoots you a skeptical look, and you shrug your shoulders. It's certainly worth a try. You don't have any surefire ways of waking the beast.
Dayo, not waiting for permission, steps forward toward the ledge and begins to dance. She seems to have mastered the movements of what the Letchi Islanders taught her, and remember the words well.

You have no idea what any of that means, but she does it, she does it loudly, and she dances with a great deal of energy. Absko looks very unsure about this, and you aren't exactly certain that this will work, but neither of you stop her.
After a couple of minutes pass, Absko looks as if he's going to go tell her to stop trying. But, as he takes his first steps toward the woman, you hear the sound of something large moving. The two of you move to the ledge and look down, seeing Kongs eyes open, and colossal ape beginning to stir.
Dayo continues her dance as Kong slowly rises, soon towering over the ledge and the three people and machine on it. His massive height actually causes his head to hit the ceiling and create a bigger hole up there, letting in more sunlight. The creature stares down at you all, and you recognize a degree of intelligence in his eyes. He studies you, his nostrils flaring, then turns his gaze to Dayo, who continues to dutifully perform the dance and song.
Absko tenses up and readies his weapon, but Kong does nothing to warrant any aggression. Instead, the great ape simply watches Dayo as she dances, before finally turning away and climbing through the collapsed ceiling, out of the cave.

As Kong departs, Dayo finishes her dancing and comes over to you and Absko.
"Kong has awakened," Dayo declares as if neither of you had just witnessed what you did. "Now, this island has a chance about the Red Bamboo."

You compliment Dayo, praising her song and dance performance, and the fact that it woke Kong. Frankly, you don't know how the song and dance are supposed to go, but it worked. Kong is awake, and he didn't squash the three of you into paste or Jet into scrap metal.
Dayo gives you a bright smile. "I'm just glad it worked."
"We should fall back to the beach," you suggest to her and Absko. "At least until backup arrives."
You have no idea how long it will take for that to happen. It could be hours, it could be days. But right now, there are only two of you that are heavily armed. Dayo might have a dagger, but you somehow doubt that'll do too much good against kaiju or armed terrorists. Even if Edith comes back with her bodyguards and Lena, you're not sure you'd be able to go toe to toe with the Red Bamboo.
"Beats sitting around here or following Kong to whatever fight he gets in," Absko acknowledges. "We might be waiting for a while, though."
So, he's thought more or less along the same lines as you. He's onboard. Dayo looks like she kind of wants to see what Kong does, but decides to follow the two of you to safety. Jet doesn't say anything, but he gives a thumbs up.
The four of you exit the cave and climb the cliff, getting ready to head through the palm trees. That's when you hear the roar. Looking in its direction, you see Kong under attack by what looks to be a giant condor. The creature viciously attacks Kong with sharp talons and its beak, striking the mighty ape in the face over and over again while clawing at his chest. Kong turns away from the onslaught, covering his face with one hand while the other swats at the attacking bird. But these efforts do very little to make the creature relent in its attacks.
"Ōkondoru" Dayo gasps, and you remember her speaking that name before.
Finally, Kong delivers a powerful backhand with the hand that was covering his face, successfully pushing the bird back. The creature falls back to the ground, flattening several palm trees, before getting back up and attacking Kong once again.
Something else catches your attention from the corner of your eye, and you see a large balloon floating toward the scene of the battle.
"Hide!" Dayo urges, grabbing both you and Absko on the shoulder.
She seems to recognize that balloon. A surveillance device of some kind? From the Red Bamboo, maybe.

Absko looks ready to target the balloon or start firing his maser gun at the brawling kaiju, but you decide it best to simply remain hidden, tapping your comrade on the back before ducking into cover alongside Dayo. He gets the message and joins you.
It may not be the most outwardly heroic thing to do, but you're trusting Dayo here. This woman knows more about what's going on here on this island than you or your brother-in-arms do, so you're going to cede to her judgment on this one. She hasn't steered you wrong so far, after all. She led you to Kong and woke him up. You trust that in this case, she still knows what she's doing.
While the balloon floats overhead, Kong continues to battle the giant condor. That bird is relentless in its attacks, pecking and clawing at Kong with a savage ferocity that is overwhelming even to that mighty ape. Kong continues trying to both defend and strike back at the bird, but this proves to accomplish little more than temporarily driving it back. And each time it's driven back, it simply comes back and resumes its ferocious assault.
Kong, finally seeming to realize that his approach is a losing strategy, lets out a furious roar, dropping his guard and striking back against the bird. At first, this goes poorly, as the bird viciously pecks his face, drawing blood, and leaves deep cuts on his chest. However, Kong fights through the pain of these attacks, and instead of pushing the bird back again, grabs it by the throat.
The bird flaps its wings desperately as it attempts to kick and peck at Kong's hand. The colossal ape lifts the bird up, then slams it into the ground, raising his free hand and clenching it into a fist. He rains punches down upon his trapped foe, again, and again, and again. Then, lifting the bird back off of the ground, he grabs the bird's lower half with his free hand, and pulls, ripping the bird's head right off of its body.
One of the Red Bamboo's guard kaiju is no more.
Kong drops the pieces of dead bird to the ground before beating his chest and letting out a thundering roar. You and the others cover your ears, and as you glance up to where the spy balloon still hovers, you wonder if such surveillance technology is necessary any longer. So powerful was that cry of victory that you suspect it could be heard across the entire island.
The great ape seems to notice the balloon, and lets out a roar in its direction. Whether the balloon is being actively piloted or remote controlled, you aren't sure. However, either way, the person controlling that balloon has it beat a hasty retreat from the scene. Kong lets out one more aggressive roar after it before sitting down where he is. You watch as he picks up a piece of the fallen bird and begins to eat it.

This display reminds you of just how dangerous kaiju can be. Sure, these guns you carry can take down a Kamacuras with enough shots, or drive back something like Ebirah. But this? That is a powerful creature. The might, the capacity for carnage, the aggression and brutality, it reminds you of another kaiju.
You were born in Spain, but traveled to the United States and gained dual citizenship to study at M.I.T., pursuing a passion for robotics and coding. While you were studying in the States, a massive beetle creature emerged from beneath the Earth and went on a rampage. Your family were caught right in the middle of it, and your mother and father lost their lives. Your little brother survived with some injuries, but despite making a full physical recovery, you wonder if he'll ever be the same after experiencing that kind of trauma. That monster could not be killed by Spain's military forces, and escaped after causing many deaths. Could a modern military deal with Kong? Could the KRF? Would masers be enough? The Super-X?"
Dayo insists that Kong is a guardian to the people of this island, and you've learned that she is right about many things. She might be right about Kong. But while this isn't the monster that killed your parents, his power remind you quite a bit about what you saw in the footage of the beetle's attack, and heard from your brother and other survivors.
"Well, I don't think our guns are going to do much good against him," Absko remarks, snapping you out of your thoughts. "Should we keep heading back to the beach, or stick around here and see what the Red Bamboo do about him?"

The four of you were heading back to the beach to wait for backup when Kong got himself into that death battle with the giant condor. You aren't sure how the Red Bamboo are going to respond to what just happened, but you don't think it changes your situation much. You are outnumbered on this island, and aren't positive if being around Kong will be safe. Might as well keep doing what you were doing.
The fact that you don't know what exactly the Red Bamboo are going to do in response to this gives you pause, however. Kong is supposedly one of the only hopes for this island, and while he just defeated one of the Red Bamboo's kaiju, it's not certain whether or not they may have some weapons capable of hurting or killing Kong. Anything they could use against the giant ape, you doubt you could do much to stop, but there is someone with you who could.
Through all of this, you've been traveling in the company of perhaps the most advanced piece of technology this world has ever seen. The mighty and heroic Jet Jaguar is still with you, and you think he would be better suited here protecting Kong than playing bodyguard to two trained KRF members and an Infant Islander who seems quite resourceful.
"Please stick close to Kong, and help him as needed," you request of the android.
Jet turns his head to you, makes his distinct sound, and raises his hand with a thumbs up of acknowledgement before taking to the air and flying closer to where Kong now sits, eating. With that done, you voice your agreement with Absko that the three of you aren't going to do much here and should head back to the beach.
Dayo nods her head and starts heading back in that direction at once, while you and Absko follow closely behind. Your comrade doesn't say anything, but you suspect that he has some thoughts about you going out of your way to help Kong. He's never shared Lena's opinion that any of these monsters can really be trusted or even coexisted with. Considering the destruction a kaiju caused to his home, you can understand that. Yet, here you are, a man who lost both of his parents to an unknown Kaiju, trying to make sure that one of these creatures is given the help it needs to survive. It's strange, maybe, but it's the decision you've made. You suspect Lena would approve, if nothing else.
As the three of you reach the cliff overlooking the beach, you spot a lifeboat reaching the shore. And out of that lifeboat climbs Lena, who gazes around the area, perhaps searching for you. You notice that the unconscious Red Bamboo members are thankfully no longer there, and just hope that she'll stay put while you and the others make your way back to her.

Thankfully, she does just that, though as you see that she is the only one there, you inwardly question the wisdom of her remaining in the open like that while alone. Maybe she thinks her maser gun will be enough? Who can say what's going through her head, though when she sees the three of you approaching, she gives a wide smile and rushes over to meet you.
"Why are you here by yourself?" Absko questions, voicing your own curiosity for you.
"Edith sent me back here," she explains. "I insisted she keep her bodyguards with her in case that giant shrimp came back. I'm supposed to tell you that it's going to be at least six hours before backup arrives. Solstice Technologies is sending some help our way."
She looks past your group, frowning. "Where's Jet Jaguar?"
"Alonso sent him to protect Kong," Absko replies, his tone not sounding particularly pleased.
"Kong's awake?" Lena asks in disbelief and excitement.
"Yeah, he tore another monster's head off," Absko tells her coldly. "That was a real smart decision."
Dayo glares at him.
"Well, wasn't that the plan?" Lena asks, her voice a little more subdued. "We'd wake Kong and he'd fight the Red Bamboo's monsters?"
Futher discussion is halted by the sound of helicopters. You turn toward the sound and are shocked by what you see. Yes, there are four helicopters heading in the direction where you left Kong and Jet Jaguar. However, they're not alone. The four choppers are carrying something massive, something in the same shape as Kong. But while Kong is flesh and fur and blood, this thing looks to be pure metal.
The KRF is working on a project to create a "Mechagodzilla", but it seems the Red Bamboo have made some sort of "Mechani Kong".
"I don't know what backup's going to do against that," Absko admits.
"I'm not sure what Kong and Jet Jaguar are going to do against that thing," Lena adds. "There's no telling what that machine can do. They might need our help."

Lena might be right. There's no telling what this machine is capable of. While Kong and Jet Jaguar together should be a nearly unstoppable force, it's entirely possible that this strange machine could prove to be a match for them. After all, even after observing what happened to the Giant Condor, the Red Bamboo sent this thing into battle. Uncertain of wat this thing is capable of, and uncertain of what you can do against it, you nevertheless decide to go back there and lend whatever aid you can to the great ape and superhero robot.
Leading the charge, you once again scale the cliffs overlooking the beach, with the others following closely behind. Scaling the cliff without much issue, you are able to begin making your way through the palm trees toward the sounds of battle in the distance. You hear the familiar sounds of Jet Jaguar, and the roars of Kong. Over both of these sounds, however, you hear the voice of a human man.
"Yes, Kong! Crush Jet Jaguar!" it commands. "Tear it to pieces!"
You finally catch sight of the trio of titans, watching in surprise as Kong and Jet exchange punches, the great ape seeming to overpower your robot comrade. Each lands a punch at the same moment, and while Kong staggers back slightly from Jet's blow, the robot is knocked to the ground. A few moments later, he's back on his feet. This time, however, he changes his target, turning toward the massive mechanical ape.
That's when you notice the strange lights shining from the top of the mechanical monkey's head crest. Jet rushes the mechanical beast, throwing a punch at its head and seemingly aiming for the lights. The mechanical monkey, showing surprising agility, weaves the punch, grabbing Jet Jaguar by the arm.
Jet leaps, planting both feet on the robot's stomach before pushing off hard, freeing himself from its grip and knocking the metal monster to the ground. Jet begins rushing toward the downed robot, when the voice rings out again.
"Kong, stop him!" it commands as the lights atop the robot's head flash again.
With a roar, Kong chases after Jet Jaguar, tackling him to the ground from behind. As the two titans wrestle in the dirt, the Kong robot gets back on its feet. Laughter comes from the robot Kong as the lights continue flashing.
"Good, Kong. Now destroy him!"
"I knew waking Kong was a bad idea," Absko snarls. "Now we're going to lose Jet Jaguar."
"I don't understand what's happening," Dayo comments, sounding confused and scared. "Kong shouldn't be helping this thing."

"Maybe he doesn't know Jet's on his side?" Lena theorizes. "Or maybe it's mistaking the robot for one of its kind? Maybe it hears the voice and thinks it's protecting humans?"
Maybe, or maybe it's something more simple.

Lena has several theories of varying levels of probability. However, you have a theory of your own. Those lights flashing from atop the robot may be having some effect on Kong, perhaps even hypnotizing the great ape to do the bidding of the machine's controller. And you have an opportunity to test your theory. If you were to somehow remove those lights and observe the results, you would have your answer. Fortunately for you, the part of the robot that's projecting these strange lights seems rather exposed. Perhaps the person who built the machine believed that hiding it was unnecessary, as whatever monster looked at it would be under their thrall.
Their mistake.
Kong pushes Jet away from him with his powerful legs, sending your robotic ally flying and crashing into the trees nearby. He doesn't stay down, though. In fact, he's back on his feet in just a few moments, as is Kong. Kong roars, beating his chest and snarling at Jet as the mechanical Kong watches on.
With everyone distracted, you raise your maser gun and take aim for the source of the flashing lights, firing off a bolt of blue energy. Your shot goes wide, but alerts whomever is controlling the machine. The mechanical Kong begins turning toward you.
"We have visitors, Kong," the voice from the machine tells the ape. "You should-"
Before he can finish his sentence, you've already fired off another shot, this one hitting dead-on and destroying the light emitter. Kong suddenly jolts, turning toward the Mechani- Kong and letting out a furious roar.
"You fool, you will wish you hadn't done that," the voice declares.
Mechani- Kong reaches toward its waist, where there are several attachments that look to some kind of grenades or bombs. The mechanical monkey grabs hold of one and hurls it toward where you and the others are hiding.
Jet Jaguar hurls himself between you and the projectile, which explodes on impact with the heroic robot. Jet Jaguar falls to the ground, smoke rising from his body.
Kong, meanwhile, charges his robotic doppelganger. The robot turns and tries to backhand Kong, but the ape ducks beneath the strike and uppercuts the machine before bringing his hands together in a double-knuckle fist and slamming them down on the machine's face, causing it to fall to the ground. As Kong raises his arms to continue pummeling the machine, Mechani- Kong's eyes emit blinding lights right into the ape's eyes. Kong howls in pain, covering his eyes and retreating several steps as Mechani-Kong gets back on its feet. The machine delivers a mighty punch to its disoriented opponent, knocking Kong to the ground.
"You think robbing me of my prize will bring you victory?" the voice from Mechani-Kong questions. "My fighter will not tire. And with its brawn and my brains, we are more than a match for both Kong and your so-called hero."

However, as Kong falls, Jet Jaguar gets back on his feet, dropping into a fighting stance before launching himself at Mechani-Kong, who turns to meet his attack, turning his blinding eyes on the robot and away from Kong. Jet, like Kong, is disoriented by the attack, and because of this, his strike is parried by Mechani-Kong. The mechanical beast then uppercuts Jet, causing the heroic machine to stagger back.
Kong, back on his feet, roars and rushes the mighty machine, only for its gaze to turn on him and slow him to a halt. Laughter rings out from the machine's speakers as it approaches Kong and begins to strike him again, once more knocking him to the ground. Jet rushes in, only to once more be blinded and beaten back.

I doubt we're dealing with a piloted Mecha and more with a robot. If we can shoot towards either the cameras Mechani-Kong has, or if the cameras are the drones we saw earlier, we'll win

"Separate, and shoot that thing from different angles," you instruct Absko and Lena before rushing forward and looking for an opening.
As you move through the trees, you look up and keep your eyes peeled for any more of those surveillance balloons that you saw earlier. If your hunch is correct, that thing isn't a mecha being actively piloted, but instead a robot being remotely controlled. If it's the latter, then there are likely cameras or sensors being used to allow its controller to see and respond. Those balloons might also be part of what is being used to let him see from all angles. If you take those out, suddenly your chances get much better, and you are confident that you will win.
Sure enough, you soon notice two balloons hovering above the trees, keeping a safe distance from the carnage. Sadly for them, they aren't safe from you. It takes a bit of time to get close enough, but once you do, they're two large, slow-moving targets, and you're a pretty decent shot. Two pulls of the trigger later, and two smoking balloons are falling from the sky.
Meanwhile, your friends are doing what they can to distract Mechani-Kong, firing from two different spots, then presumably running like Hell to avoid any counterattacks. Mechani-Kong does manage to throw an explosive in the direction of one of the shots, but fortunately, you see two more shots blaze up at the robot shortly after, telling you that both friends are still alive. Hopefully Dayo is too, as there's less indication about her with her being armed only with a dagger. You can only hope for the best.
You look for any signs of cameras on the machine, but aside from the obvious like its eyes, you can't see anything that you can say with any certainty is what you're searching for. It's possible that it's operating off some advanced internal sensors, or that the camera is somewhere you don't see. You take a few shots at its eyes just in case, but the mechanical creature is moving too much for you to hit where you want.
Still, between the destruction of the observation balloons, and the distractions of the maser guns, the tide begins to turn. Jet lands a flying kick on Mechani-Kong, knocking it face-first to the ground, where Jet continues to kick at it. With surprising agility, the robot rolls away, getting back to its feet and blinding Jet once again, only to take a tree to the side of the head, courtesy of Kong. As the machine briefly turns its attention to the mighty ape, Jet rushes forward, delivering a mighty punch that knocks the robot back. It rolls backward and gets back into a standing position, but this time catches a tree to its right eye, taking out one of the lights that have been blinding its opponents. As it turns toward Kong, a maser shot rockets from the trees, striking its other eye, taking out both lights.
"You will pay for this!" Shouts the controller of the machine.

Mechani-Kong reaches down, grabbing hold of another of the explosives, and another, throwing one each at Jet Jaguar and Kong. Both fighters fall back from the blast, each making a distinct sound of destress. And as they fall back in the face of the smoking, fiery blasts, Mechani-Kong grabs hold of more explosives, throwing them at his opponents. And again. And again. And again., no longer acknowledging the Maser shots from your or your friends.
Jet and Kong are driven further back, and fire spreads rapidly through the trees.

The smoke and flames are spreading, and things are about to get really bad really quickly for those of you that aren't gigantic monsters or robots. You need to get out of here, and you need to gather the others. If Jet Jaguar or Kong manage to set off the remaining grenades on that belt, you're all finished. There's no sensible thing to do other than getting out of here as quickly as possible.
Pointing your gun skyward, you fire off a maser shot, letting the others know of your location. It takes a few minutes, but Dayo soon rushes out of the trees, racing to you and placing her hands on your shoulders.
"We need to get out of here!" she insists. "The others, where are they?"
As if on cue, Absko comes out of the trees, and Lena a few moments later. With the gang all assembled, you move as quickly as you can through the foliage and race in the direction of the beach. The fire has spread far, and smoke blackens the sky as you reach the cliffs overlooking the beach. The four of you begin climbing down, but as you do, there is a loud boom, and the cliff shakes, causing Dayo to lose her grip. You manage to catch her hand, but a moment later, another tremor causes you to lose your grip. Luckily, Absko catches you. Slowly and cautiously, the four of you make your way down to the sand below, and dash for the waterline.
On the horizon, you can make out the Equinox floating at a safe distance. Turning back toward the cliffs, all you see is smoke and flames. Going back that way would be a terrible mistake.

This is out of your control now. Rushing back into the middle of that fire and fighting, or trying to take out the Red Bamboo with just the four of you is too much to ask. All you can do for the moment is stay put and wait for backup to arrive. You keep your eyes and ears on the direction you'd just fled from, and try to parse together what's happening. But through the smoke and flames, you see very little. What you do notice is that, after some time has passed, a group of planes, Shenyang J-16s from the look of it, appear from deeper in the island and fly over the spot where the battle took place. You see one suddenly catch fire and drop down into the smoke, and the others turn to flee before another is struck by something and joins its fellow craft in falling into the smoke.
Then, things are quiet for a while. The four of you remain on the beach, and while you wait for backup, you pass some of the time by speaking to Dayo, asking her if she's seen a signal tower in the Red Bamboo base. After describing how one would look, you see Dayo's eyes flash with recognition, and she nods her head. With that bit of information, you conclude that, if Mechani-Kong is still fighting, then interrupting the signal might put a stop to it altogether.
You ask Dayo if, once backup arrives, she can show you where the Red Bamboo base is. Many people might refuse to go back to such an awful place that they presumably took a great deal of risk to escape, but Dayo is quite brave. She agrees to show you so the Red Bamboo can be stopped, and their slaves freed.
Things remain calm for some time, until gunshots ring out, striking the sand near your feet. You and the others raise your weapons, only to be greeted by roughly two-dozen Red Bamboo soldiers, led by a man wearing an eyepatch, with their guns all trained on you.
"So you're the ones who have given the Doctor and Red Bamboo so much trouble," he surmises as he looks the four of you over. "You're coming with us. Doctor Who is very interested in having you visit."
"Sorry, but we're not really dressed to mingle" Lena says somewhat nervously.
"Nonsense, you all look wonderful," he replies before seeming just now to notice the ship on the horizon. "I see. You brought friends. Perhaps we'll have some of our fighter jets pay them a visit."
That's when you see them, a group of flying objects heading in your direction. However, they're not coming from where you saw the fighter jets disappear. Instead, they're coming from the direction of the Equinox, flying right past the ship and heading your way. They're tall small to be manned aircraft or some group of flying kaiju. As they approach, you think at first that you might be wrong, as they resemble large insects, roughly the size of an adult human. But as they draw even closer, you recognize that they're some sort of machines.

There are six of them in total. They have a four-legged, blue and white body, with a long tail ending in two stingers. As they swoop in closer, the Red Bamboo begin opening fire. You and the others instinctively drop to the ground to avoid being caught in the storm of bullets.
Looking up, you see the flying robots scatter, moving to surround the wildly firing terrorists. Then, you see a glow on each of their tails before bolts of electricity shoot outward, each one striking a member of the Red Bamboo and knocking the terrorists out cold. A handful turn and run back the way they came while the rest keep firing.
"Get back here, you cowards!" their leader hollers after the fleeing men, only to grunt as a projectile shot from one of the insectoid machines strikes the ground behind him and his men with enough force to almost bury you and your friends and sand, and toss several of the soldiers every which way.
With the remaining Red Bamboo disoriented, the machines set to knocking each one unconscious with their electrical attacks. Once this is complete, the machines hover around the four of you, and a familiar voice comes out of one of them.
"Looks like these got here just in time," Edith Winter's voice comments, not sounding overly relieved or stressed about the situation, more pleased and amused than anything. "Meet the Cyber Flies, remote-controlled drones my father's been tinkering with for some time. When I told him we were in trouble, he let me take half a dozen out for some field testing. What have I missed from your little island getaway?"
"Alonso had Dayo here wake up Kong," Absko says, still not sounding pleased with that decision. "He killed one of the Red Bamboo's monsters, then they sent some kind of robot Kong after him. Alonso shot something off its head, and we distracted it so Kong and Jet Jaguar could deal with it. But then it started throwing explosives, and set everything on fire, and we had to leave. We don't know what happened next, but they sent some planes and lost two of them out there, so Kong or Jet are probably still alive."
"Alonso asked Dayo to lead us to the Red Bamboo's base once backup arrived," Lena adds. "Then we can take out their signal tower and finish this."
"Alright," Edith's voice replies, sounding somewhat intrigued. "I'll have the Cyber Flies go with you for some more testing. They can take bullets better than you can, and pack some good firepower."
With that settled, you ask Dayo to lead the way. The woman gives a somewhat uncomfortable look to the Cyber Flies, but nods her head and leads you away from the unconscious Red Bamboo. It's quite a trek to get to the Red Bamboo base, and Dayo explains that she usually took the route that is currently in flames, but thinks she can lead you there without it.

Sure enough, she comes through for you again, and you are soon overlooking the Red Bamboo base just as the sun is setting. They seem to be on high alert. Soldiers patrol the area, searchlights move back and forth, and everyone seems to move with an air of urgency. Whether that's due to your group, or to Kong and Jet, it's too early to say, but either way, they're preparing for trouble.
"Now what?" Lena asks.
You can see the signal tower, and what looks like their main base. Sneaking into either spot will not be easy.
But more than that, you see something that makes your stomach dropped. In the middle of the base, standing high above everything else, is Mechani-Kong. From here, you see no signs of damage, and in fact see the piece you shot off earlier perfectly attached. Either they repaired this thing unbelievably quickly, or there's a second Mechani-Kong

Taking out that signal tower has suddenly become even more important. Whether that's the same Mechani-Kong or a different one, with no Kong or Jet Jaguar to assist you, taking out the controls of this thing is critical. But sneaking to it, or fighting your way to it is almost certain to end badly. Fortunately, you have a third option.
"Can you have the Cyber Flies cause some chaos while we head for the signal tower?" you request of Edith.
"I think that can be arranged," comes Edith's voice from one of the flies.
All six begin moving, soaring down toward the base. You hear alarms start blaring as they swoop in and shock one of the watchmen unconscious. They then each fire projectiles from their tails, blasting the base of the tower and causing it to collapse, presumably taking a few of the Red Bamboo along with it. From another tower, a red beam of light fires out, striking one of the flies, which catches fire and crashes to the ground. The remaining five converge on the tower and blast it into rubble.
A group of turrets on the ground fire off more red projectiles, managing to take out another Cyber Fly before the remaining four reduce them to fiery scrap. You can hear shouting and panicked chaos as you and the others approach the base. With many of the watchmen either dead, retreated, or heavily distracted by the Cyber Flies, you're able to carefully sneak in. Thanks to Edith, the compound is in such chaos that you're able to make it through to the signal tower. Just as you do, you see four jets move to engage the Cyber Flies. To your surprise, the flies manage to avoid their fire, move in close, and shoot one down with coordinated projectiles. The aircraft falls to the far end of the compound before exploding.
As you reach the base of the control tower, Mechani-Kong begins moving, marching in the direction of the remaining Cyber-Flies, which continue to harry the jets. Once another jet is shot down, the remaining two turn and flee the scene.
As you enter the tower, you find it unguarded, with the people who would have normally stood watch presumably either having fled, or busy trying to deal with the attacking Cyber Flies. That makes your job much easier as you make your way through the tower, finding the controls you were looking for. A shot from your maser gun is all it takes to destroy the signal tower's controls. A few more to damage everything else, and you're confident that no more signals will be sent.
No sign of who was issuing commands to Mechani-Kong, though. Either they fled with everyone else, or he was issuing commands from the base that were projected through the signal tower. If it's the latter, then they're probably still in the base. If the former, well, you don't know.

As you exit the tower, you see a suddenly motionless Mechani-Kong standing surrounded by a trio of Cyber Flies. At its feet, you spot the smoldering remains of one of the flies, telling you that the machine managed to destroy one.
The fighting seems to have largely died down. With the jets retreating, the towers destroyed, the turrets obliterated, and Mechani-Kong rendered motionless, it's likely that many of them have decided that the situation is pointless and begun to retreat.
The question is, what should you do?

Mechani-Kong would be really good for the construction of either the MechaGodzilla or hopefully make the Jaegers more real. Either way, I think it's smart if we regroup or take this small base for ourselves, make it so two of the cyber flies stays guarding the base while we look out for Kong and Jet. I'm sure just two would be enough to guard this place and make sure they don't recover mechani-kong so easily, and if Dr. Who really, REALLY wants to take it again we can retreat back and wait for the KRF on the base

Things have gone very well so far, but you think that it would be a wise idea to regroup, perhaps see what's going on with Jet Jaguar and Kong, and establish contact with the KRF. So while fire and chaos engulf the Red Bamboo base, you suggest that everyone fall back for the time being. Before you go, however, you ask Edith if she can leave two of the three remaining Cyber Flies here to guard the base and harry or stop anyone who comes to reclaim Mechani-Kong.
"Alright," she agrees, and only one of the Cyber Flies comes with your group while the other two remain, swooping through the compound and occasionally firing something or other from their tails.
It actually isn't long until you encounter Jet Jaguar. The robot, still giant, is flying above the island, and comes to land when he spots your group. Besides some heavy scorch marks, he seems fine. Behind him lumbers Kong, badly scorched himself in some places, but seemingly okay. You see no Mechani-Kong following them, so you assume that they won their battle.
Jet shrinks down to human size, while Kong towers over your group. Dayo drops to her knees and bows before the great ape, Absko fidgets with his hands, seemingly trying to restrain himself from pulling his gun, while Lena stares up in awe at the colossal creature.
"So that's Kong," she murmurs, examining the mighty defender of Letchi Island. "He's a lot bigger than the last one."
The Cyber Fly remains hovering.
Kong observes Dayo's prostration, but then turns his attention to Lena, lowering himself closer to the ground to better examine her. His massive eyes show keen interest as he looks her over, and he takes a large sniff, perhaps trying to capture the scent of your group as a whole, or her specifically.

"You have an admirer, Lena," you tease your comrade, even as you move toward her a bit.
"W-well, can't fault good taste," your blonde comrade stammers out jokingly, clearly trying to put humor over her fear.
You've heard that making eye contact with a gorilla is seen as a challenge, and that gorillas are rarely aggressive unless challenged or threatened. So you avert your eyes as you slowly move to Lena, taking her hand and carefully pulling her back. This might be an empty gesture. After all, something with that size and reach is going to catch you if he wants to, but you feel an urge to protect her that you can't ignore. Lena seems to appreciate that, as she squeezes your hand while you guide her back.
Kong continues to observe her, but then rises to his full height. Looking up, you swear you see a flash of understanding in his eyes before you quickly look away again. Is this creature smart enough to understand that he's making her afraid and correct his behavior? People like Lena, the twin sisters Ji-a and Da-hye from back at base, and Doctor Mafune believe that kaiju are much more than simply beasts, and that at least some of them can be coexisted with peacefully. Dayo referred to Kong as a guardian of the people of Letchi Island. Were they right? Is Kong an example of a creature that could be a friend to mankind instead of an enemy?
Kong sits back, just observing your group for now. Lena sighs in relief, but doesn't immediately let go of your hand, still looking quite nervous.
"Well, looks like you have him trained," Absko comments, refraining from pulling his gun for now.

Not wanting to press your luck, you slowly back away, and keep your eyes away from Kong's. Absko taps Dayo on the shoulder, motioning for her to follow you and Lena, whose hand you have not yet let go of. You see Absko glance at your joined hands, then give you a look, but you don't say anything, not wanting to make any noise that might provoke Kong into violence.
Kong watches on, his expression calm but somewhat sad, almost like he doesn't want you, or at least Lena, to go, but he isn't going to stop you. The level of intelligence you're getting the sense this kaiju has is pretty astounding. You've heard that apes are very humanlike in many ways, but this seems like more than you'd expect.
As you make your way back toward the beach, you turn your attention to the Cyber Fly following your group, and through it ask Edith if she can contact the KRF and let them know what's happened.
"Sure," she replies. "I'll have talked to them by the time you get back."
After a while, you're forced to release Lena's hand as your group starts climbing down the cliffs to the beach below. Jet Jaguar simply flies, waiting for you all as you descend. When you get there, he waves you all on and walks beside you the rest of the way to the beach.
The five of you and the Cyber Fly wait there for some time. Edith informs you through the drone that the KRF is sending the Super-X over to investigate and deal with any remaining Red Bamboo members. They'll also be sending a ship to transport any prisoners they find to safety. Edith has volunteered to redirect her Cyber Flies to protect the ship from Ebirah, and the one guarding your group .
"A plane and boat both managed to escape the island," she tells you. "So I think the Red Bamboo have evacuated. Hopefully we'll find the prisoners."
You've been asked to return to the Equinox so you can be in more direct contact with KRF forces when they arrive. Edith sends some lifeboats to retrieve you, but on the way back to the ship, you see a familiar giant claw rise from the water, followed by the body of a colossal shrimp.
"Ebirah!" Dayo cries out in fear.

"Same strategy as before, aim for the claws!" you call to your armed comrades. "Jet, can you attack that thing?"
Jet gives you a thumbs up, then leaps from the lifeboat, growing in size before your very eyes, until he is as towering as a kaiju himself. He splashes into the water behind Ebirah, grabbing hold of the giant shrimp's massive claw before it can come crashing down upon your lifeboat. The lifeboats are tossed about a bit in the wake of Jet's entrance, but you manage to hold on and take aim.
Your comrades do the same, and the three of you fire off maser blasts, easily striking Ebirah's arm while Jet holds him in place. The creature cries out in pain and attempts to free himself from Jet's grasp, but to no avail. Another round of shots, then another, and another, and another, and with that, Ebirah lets out a shriek as his massive claw is ripped from its arm by Jet Jaguar, taking advantage of how badly you'd wounded the appendage with your handheld cannons.
Wounded and clearly outmatched, Ebirah dives back into the water, swimming away as fast as it can, and leaving you and the others to make it safely to the Equinox. All of you make it safely aboard, at which point Jet leaps again, shrinking back down to human size and landing with your group.
Crew members rush to check if you are all okay. Dayo seems to be getting a lot of attention, whether that's due to her not being a trained soldier or due to her looks, you aren't sure. Edith has food and drinks brought to all of you, and soon after you finish enjoying these things, you see the Super-X approaching from the distance. Now even if something dangerous does show up, or the Red Bamboo make another strike, you're confident that between your guns, Jet Jaguar, and the Super-X, you will be more than able to deal with it.
The Super-X hovers right above the Equinox, and who should disembark from it but Commander Gordon. You and your fellow KRF members salute the man, who salutes back and tells you to be at ease.
"Alright kids, miss Winter's been telling me what's going on, but she wasn't on the island for more than a few minutes," he explains. "I want to hear from you what's been happening, and if you think we should wrap this expedition up here and now."

As you explain to Commander Gordon all that's happened, you endeavor to give him as accurate a report as possible, telling him exactly what has happened. However, you also make sure that you five props to your allies and play up their achievements. Well, "playing up" isn't necessarily the right term. our allies did, after all, do quite a bit to contribute to all that's gone successfully so far.
Lena saved you from falling overboard when Ebirah attacked the Equinox, and pieced together much of the information about the other islands. She also had the courage to return to the island alone to help you, Absko, Dayo, and Jet.
Absko, as you learned while waiting for the Super-X to arrive, was the one who blasted out one of Mechani-Kong's eyes. He also was near-constantly by your side or at your back, alert and ready to deal with any potential threats, and wise enough to do things like fire extra shots at the downed Kamacuras when they so much as twitched. Not to mention that he saved you and Dayo from falling off a cliff.
Both of them fought well against kaiju from Kamacuras to Ebirah, along with the first Mechani-Kong you encountered.
Jet saved Dayo's life, helped Kong fight Mechani-Kong, took an explosive for the group, and ripped Ebirah's claw off.
Dayo guided you all around the island, did most of the work in finding Kong, and woke the great beast, leading to the death of the Giant Condor and the defeat of one of the Mechani-Kongs. She was also the one who showed you the way to the Red Bamboo base.
Edith receives praise for not being afraid to get into the thick of things on Sollgel Island, and her use of the Cyber Flies against the Red Bamboo, along with securing the Cyber Flies as backup, and contacting the KRF.
You refrain from mentioning the tension and small arguments that happened within the group, particularly with Absko.
Absko and Lena, for their part, also try to give an accurate report of events from their own perspectives, filling in the blanks on some events. They, in turn, praise all that you accomplished and did during the expedition.
From doing surprisingly well sparring with Jet Jaguar, to finding the Kamacuras eggs along with the chemical compound that BioSyn had used to likely create all of the kaiju on Sollgel Island, to taking the lead and giving orders in critical moments, to deciding on plans, knowing when to defer to others, protecting Lena from Kong, and knowing when to fall back, they play you up quite well.

Finally, when you're done giving reports, you express your opinion that the expedition should be stopped for now. However, you also recommend bringing in a team to recover whatever's left from the Red Bamboo bases and grab Mechani-Kong, and of course, free Dayo's people.
"We've already got a ship on the way to deal with the base and free the prisoners," Gordon assures you once you're done. "Since the monsters are mostly cleared out, we just have to make sure they don't piss off Kong. We'll keep Jet Jaguar here with us just in case. You three are going to return to Antarctica, report to the Chief, and get some rest. You've earned it. Nice work."

"Thank you, Commander," you address Gordon.
"Good luck, and good work," he replies before turning his attention to Edith and walking off to speak with her.
Shortly after, the Super-X takes off, and a chopper lands on the helipad of the Equinox. The three of you are ushered onboard, and the chopper takes off. Looking down at the boat beneath you, you spot Dayo, waving up as you and the others depart. You wave back, unsure if you're ever going to see her again.
The ride back to base is pretty uneventful and quiet, as at this point the three of you more or less let exhaustion take over and doze off a bit. With no superhero robot out the window flying beside you, you're less enthused about watching your surroundings anyway, even if there is some impressive scenery. When you touch down at the Antarctic base, you find a group of people waiting for you, all of whom salute as you step out of the chopper. Unsure what to do, the three of you salute back.
One of them steps forward, and you recognize him as Afonso Souza Oliveira of Brazil, a Sergeant who mostly deals with base security.
"Welcome back, sirs," he says, surprising you as he outranks all three of you. "I've been asked to escort you to your meeting with Chief Namikawa."
He and his people take up positions around the three of you, as if escorting an important guest or officer, and lead you through the base. You share looks with Lena and Absko, who also seem unsure about what's going on. The walk to Chief Namikawa's office is quiet and a little awkward. When you finally arrive, Afonso salutes once again, and the three of you once more awkwardly salute back before he and his people depart, and the three of you step into the office, where Chief Namikawa sits waiting behind her desk.
"Welcome back," she greets as the door slides shut behind you. "I've been over the reports sent by Commander Gordon and Miss Winter. You three had quite the exciting expedition. And, by all accounts, all three of you performed exceptionally in dealing with everything thrown your way. That is why I've decided to promote you. Miss Lindgren, Mister Okoth, you have each been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Congratulations."
"Thank you, ma'am," Lena replies as she and Absko salute her.
Chief Namikawa nods at them, then looks at you. "And you are promoted to Captain."
"Ma'am, I'd like to request assignment under Alo-uh, the Captain," Lena speaks up.
As you and Absko look over at her, she explains. "He's somebody I know and trust, and we've worked well together."
"I'll discuss it with him," Namikawa promises. "Speaking of which, Lieutenants, you are both dismissed. I need to discuss some things with the new Captain."
The pair salute and leave the office, giving you and Chief Namikawa some privacy.

"In light of your exemplary performance both in simulations and in the field, I'd like to offer you command of one of our vessels," she tells you after a moment. "Project Atragon is nearly complete, as is the Super-X2. There are a few more projects that you will be made privy to as a Captain, but they're generally not far enough along to consider. So, let's discuss your options."
She turns around and points to a screen, which shows images of five ships. "Project Atragon is nearing completing on a small fleet of anti-kaiju ships: The Atragon, the Gotengo, the Eclair, the Rumbling, and the Karyu. The Atragon and Gotengo have already been assigned to Captain Gyozen and Commander Gordon respectively, leaving the remaining three as options for you."
"First is the Eclair," she tells you, focusing the image to one of the airships, which is distinct by the giant ball at the tip of it. "She is equipped to fire eight MA-PM020 heat-seeking proton missiles simultaneously, as well as two miniature plasma maser beam cannons, and an iron ball maser cannon."
To demonstrate the latter weapon, you are shown footage of a gigantic ball of maser energy being shot from the tip of the ship. The screen then shifts to another of the ships, this one slightly less long than the other two.
"This is the Rumbling, like the Eclair she is equipped with two miniature plasma maser beam cannons, and MA-PM020 heat-seeking proton missiles. She can also fire a Magnum Maser from her central cannon."
Footage demonstrates by displaying the ship firing a large beam of maser energy. The footage then shifts to the final member of the fleet. This one looks quite similar to the Rumbling, but has something like a large blade sticking out of its front.
"This is the Karyu," she tells you. "She comes equipped with the standard MA-PM020 heat-seeking proton missiles, double miniature plasma maser cannons, along with maser defense turrets and a Blade Maser, designed specifically to cut through its targets."

"You're already familiar with the Super-X, now meet her successor," Namikawa tells you as the footage shifts to a larger-looking craft. "This is the Super-X2, equipped with a hull armored in a super heat-resistant alloy, the ability to operate both in the air and at depths up to 10,000 meters, a variety of missiles, two Vulcan guns, dual maser cannons, and a Fire Mirror designed to reflect beam and heat based attacks from kaiju you battle against. She can be operated remotely, or with a crew onboard."
The footage displays the five craft as Namikawa turns back to you. "Which would you like to command? You also need to decide if you want Lieutenant Lindgren under your command."

I'll change my vote to back this up. I think I gotta admit some of these votes are a bit too complex for me to follow, and while being able to make a bunch of moves at once can really propel the story very fast, maybe we ought to just assume some stuff here and there, like Lena and Absko continuing on with us, and heading on to the next thing after picking a vehicle, rather than needing to tick all those boxes individually and intentionally.

"I'll Captain the Super-X2," you tell your superior officer. "And I would like both Lena and Absko to be placed under my command."
You considered just taking the Super-X, but this new one seems to be an upgrade, especially if it comes down to fighting monsters with heat or energy-based attacks, such as the Gappas, or another Godzilla. Being able to control it remotely in truly dangerous situations without having to put yourself and your crew in danger is also quite the appealing thing. You don't know for sure if you'll ever have use for the fire mirror, but in a situation when you need it, you'll certainly feel blessed to have it. It also seems to come with most of the armaments of the original Super-X, and you imagine the piloting controls are probably similar. It just seems a better choice than the original or any of the Atragon fleet available to you.
As for asking that Lena and Absko be assigned to you, it's different reasons for each of them. Lena volunteered, shares your sort of intuition about certain kaiju and robots, saved your life, and generally works pretty well with you. However, you wonder if she has feelings for you and how that will impact her ability to do her jobs on missions, and her thinking a bit too similarly to you is somewhat worrying. That's where Absko comes in. In addition to being a great shot, having a good combat mentality, and having saved your life, he's a skeptic who is willing to second-guess you and offer dissenting opinions. That could prove invaluable to you in the future, and balance out Lena. Both of them are also people you've fought for your life alongside, and that means a lot.
"Very well, Lieutenant Lindgren will be assigned to your command," Chief Namikawa assures you. "And I will speak with Lieutenant Okoth to see if he is amenable to the idea. If there is nothing else, you are dismissed."
"Actually, ma'am, there is," you tell her. "I'd like to be assigned to Project Mechagodzilla."
"I see....." she answers, leaning forward a bit. "I should warn you, Commander Jourdain is extremely selective about who he lets in on that project, and his progress is slow. But, I'll ask him. Dismissed."

Saluting and exiting, you rush to see if you can catch up with Lena and Absko, finding the two enjoying some dinner in the mess hall. And they're not alone, the twins Ji-A and Da-hye are sitting with them, as is Mateo Carrilo, though the latter person seems to be busy enjoying a book more than any conversation, appearing to only half listen to what's going on.
Your two comrades give you mocking salutes as you join them at the table, while the twins seem to study you for a moment before relaxing. Mateo glances up from his book, congratulations you on your promotion before returning to reading.
"Yeah, congrats," Absko tells you sincerely. "You did good work out there."
"And so did we," Lena says for herself and Absko. "I think we deserved these promotions, especially you two. You got up to a lot while I was back on the Equinox."
"You did what we needed you to do," Absko reassures her. "Thanks to you we knew what was going on and to look for backup. Not to mention that Winter made it back to the ship safely. An extra maser if Ebirah showed up again was good for them to have."
"You're right, we all got what we deserved, I think," Lena admits. "So, what did the Chief say about me working under you?"
Absko rolls his eyes.
You inform her that Namikawa approved her serving under you, and inform Absko that you asked he be assigned to you as well.
"Look," Absko replies with a sigh. "We're friends, but you and I have very different views of kaiju and how to deal with them. You may have been right this time, but I can't know that each time you trust one of these things, it will work out. You of all people should know what they are capable of, just like I do. I won't just blindly follow orders that go against my better judgement."
"But that's why I want you," you counter. "I need a skeptic on my team, someone who will be willing to offer a dissenting opinion."
Absko twists some pasta around on his fork, mulling it over. "Alright, I'll give it a chance."
"This is touching and all, but I'd like to hear about what happened on your mission," Mateo speaks up, setting his book, "Theories on Mutations by Doctor Nico Tatopoulos", down on the table. "You three got promoted far fast, that means you must have made some serious discovery or fought some serious kaiju. I want to hear all about it."
While you get some food, Absko and Lena appear to oblige him, starting from the beginning of the expedition. By the time you get back, they are in the middle of answering questions to the best of their ability about Kamacuras. He seems incredibly disappointed that you didn't see Kumonga or Gabara. As the stories continue, he asks a lot of questions about the kaijus and the weaponry used against them. The three of you do the best you can to oblige him.

The twins, on the other hand, seem quite interested in Kong and the Infant Islanders. That's a little easier to explain, at least until Mateo starts asking for more of the technical details of Kong, Mechani-Kong, and so on.
When it gets to Lena's encounter with Kong, Absko teases the two of you about the extended handholding.
Lena tells him to grow up.
After some time passes, both Absko and Mateo get up and, after wishing everyone well, return to their quarters for the night. You find yourself wondering if you'll be getting some kind of officer's quarters now.
"We think you did the right thing," Ji-a tells you. "With Kong, we mean."
"It's a shame about the other kaiju, but it sounds like you did what you had to," Da-hye agrees.
The two get up and move to the empty spots at the table closer to you and Lena, and continue to ask questions about the kaiju, though in their case it's more about their behavior and disposition. You aren't surprised, these two are very much in the same camp as Lena when it comes to kaiju, maybe even more so than her.
As the two of you talk with the pair, you notice Ji-a fumbling with something. For just a moment as she shifts her hands, you get a good look at it. A stone with a cross carved into it, surrounded by various lines. At first you think it to be a Christian thing, but then you remember that you've seen that symbol before when learning about a particular kaiju.
Mothra.
You know there are kaiju worshippers out there. Some see Mothra as a goddess, some believe Behemoth to be the creature referenced in the Book of Job, and you're certain that some people somewhere have worshipped several more of their kind. But in the KRF?

"Lena, what do you think about monster worship in the KRF?" you ask your comrade out of the blue.
She looks taken aback, and the twins look slightly horrified. You see Ji-a quickly tuck away her stone, fearfully glancing at you. You don't do anything yet, but wait for Lena's response.
"Worshipping kaiju?" she asks, sounding somewhat shocked at the idea. "I mean, it's the twenty-first century. We know that most of them are mutants or ancient creatures reawakened. I know some people think Behemoth is a biblical creature, and for all I know, maybe he is, but worshipping him would be strange. "
She continues, "The only exception I can think of would be Mothra. She was worshipped by these tiny fairies that the whole world saw, and somehow heard their call for help from across the sea. There's something to her. Maybe some others had some long-term relationships with remote cultures. Varan was worshipped as a god, and Kong was supposedly some great protector of Letchi Island. But Mothra is the only one I think there might be something mystical to."
She taps her chin. "Some of us want to coexist peacefully with kaiju where we can. Study them, learn from them. But worshipping one as your god or goddess seems like a major conflict of interest. It's hard to push past one's faith to that degree and do what needs to be done. Then again, Mothra hasn't troubled us since her fairies were returned decades ago, and has even allowed some researchers to come and go peacefully from Infant Island. I don't know, *maybe* her, but definitely not the others. Why?"

After hearing Lana's explanation, you've decided to hold off on reporting the twins. However, you aren't dropping the subject altogether. You decide to check the archive for information on Mothra before deciding on any particular course of action.
"Just curious," you tell Lena as you get up from the table.
You see the twins, identical faces showing identical looks of fear, watching you with obvious worry as you excuse yourself from the table and make your way out of the mess hall. You walk the halls of the base, taking a bit of time to get used to soldiers you shared rank with until very recently giving you salutes. A few of them follow that up with congratulations for your promotion, or questions about your mission. Still, even with these delays, you soon enough find yourself in the archives.
The archives are made up of multiple computers and bookshelves, containing a vast collection of information on kaiju, KRF technology, scientific analysis and speculation. You see several members of the KRF at different computer stations or among the bookshelves, some sitting at tables reading thick volumes of information.
For your part, you find a computer and access the digital archives. You find that several pieces of new information are available to you, including some projects that you weren't aware of. You see references to a study of the body of Zilla, the creature that attacked New York in 1998, a project called the "All-Terraintula", one referred to as the "Robo-Yeti", and more information about the defunct Jaeger Program. The archive also appears to be in the process of adding information on your mission. While any of these things might be worth looking into later, at the moment you want information on Mothra. It doesn't take you long to find what you are looking for.

In 1961, the ship "Genyu Maru II" was caught in a storm and ran aground on a presumably uninhabited island being used for nuclear tests by the former country of Rolisica. When rescue teams arrived, they discovered that the four sailors were alive, and unaffected by the radiation, which they attributed to a special juice given to them by the island's natives.
When the story broke, Rolisica sponsored a joint scientific expedition with Japan, where they discovered a forest of full of mutated plants, caught glimpses of a native tribe, and encountered two tiny women who became known as the "Shobijin" or "Tiny beauties". The Shobijin asked that their home, Infant Island, be spared from further nuclear tests. The team acknowledged this request and left.
But Clark Nelson, a Rolisican businessman who had been part of the expedition, returned with armed men, gunned down multiple natives, and abducted the Shobijin. Nelson put the captive fairies on display in what he called the "Secret Fairies show". In a performance of the show, the Shobijin sang a song pleading for their goddess, Mothra, to come to their rescue.

Not long after, Mothra, in the form of a giant caterpillar, swam for Japan, sinking a cruise ship on the way and surviving a napalm strike as she made her way to Tokyo. By this time, Nelson had been accused of holding the Shobijin against their will, but responded by threatening the paper making those claims with a libel suit. Furthermore, despite the approach of Mothra, the Rolisican embassy defended Nelson's "property rights".
Mothra would reach Tokyo, even destroying Tokyo Tower before cocooning herself in its ruins. At this point, Nelson was ordered to release the Shobijin, but fled in secret back to Rolisica. Meanwhile, the JSDF utilized Atomic Heat Ray Guns, on loan from the United States, on Mothra's cocoon, seeming at one point to have killed her. However, Mothra emerged from the cocoon, having completed a metamorphosis into a butterfly form, flying for the Rolisican capital of New Kirk City and laying waste in search of the Shobijin.
Nelson was killed in a shootout with the police, and the Shobijin were rescued. Mothra was summoned to an airport by a giant symbol of hers, and collected the Shobijin, departing without further violence, and returning to Infant Island. After these events, Infant Island was declared off-limits for testing, colonization, and tourism.
However, over the decades, various research expeditions have been sent to the island, examining art from the natives, cave paintings from their ancestors, and conducting interviews with the inhabitants and Shobijin themselves.
According to the Shobijin, Mothra is an ancient goddess who serves as a guardian of the Earth, having protected it from threats for millions of years, going all the way back to the end of the Cretaceous Period, where she drove an invading alien kaiju, Desghidorah, off the planet.
Cave paintings depict multiple ancient battles that Mothra fought, from an alien creature known as "Gigan", some giant aquatic reptile referred to as "Dagahra", to gigantic bird monsters referred to as "Gyaos", which she apparently fought alongside another moth creature called "Battra", a beetle-like creature known as "Megalon", another called "King Caesar", and even Gamera.
The Shobijin claim that Gigan came from the stars and attacked Earth, only to be defeated by Mothra. They further explain that Dagahra and Gyaos were creations of an ancient empire known as Mu, who recklessly created monsters of their own, until they provoked the wrath of Mothra, her twin Battra, King Caesar, and their own creation, Gamera. Megalon, god and guardian of Mu, fought his people's defense, but was defeated and sank beneath the sea with their continent.

King Caesar then departed, but Battra, deciding from Mu that all of humanity needed to be destroyed, attempted to exterminate humanity the world over. Mothra and Gamera fought against Battra, with Gamera being wounded in the battle and falling wounded in the Arctic, where he would emerge again in 1965 (why he proceeded to terrorize humanity after previously fighting to protect it is unknown). After a great struggle, Mothra slew Battra. Mothra then moved to what is now Infant Island, where she and her descendants have remained to this day.
The Shobijin claim that Mothra, while immortal in spirit, has a body that grows old and dies after a certain amount of time. She lays an egg before this occurs, and when she dies, a new Mothra is born, with her spirit and memories moving to this offspring.
How much of this is true is highly debatable. However, Gamera did emerge from the Arctic in 1965, the Mu continent has been a subject of pseudo-scientific speculation for some time, some reference in Okinawan folklore does discuss a "King Caesar", and the paintings depicting "Megalon" do somewhat resemble a creature that attacked Spain. It is not entirely impossible that the Shobijin's claims are true.
Mothra is one of the most formidable kaiju on record, being completely unstoppable even with experimental technology. She is one of the few S-Class kaiju known to mankind, and future attacks from her would be considered a major crisis. Thankfully, she has not performed any aggressive moves since her rampage in the 60's, and it seems that so long as her people, especially her Shobijin, are not threatened, she is inclined to remain on her island. The stories of her lashing out against an empire that provoked her with its creations does cause some worry that one day a nation might develop a weapon, or create a monster that earns them the wrath of Mothra.
It cannot be said whether Mothra is some kind of goddess, but the presence of the Shobijin is odd of itself. Furthermore, Mothra supposedly heard the call of the Shobijin from across the sea. While she was perhaps awakened by the Infant Islanders, it is unknown how it was able to locate Japan and Rolisica. Mystical, holy, or not, Mothra has developed a small number of followers outside of Infant Island. These followers are usually fairly peaceful, though many of them protest and condemn environmental destruction, and the production of nuclear weapons.

After reading all of this, you decide that, for the time being, you will keep their secret. Reports say that Mothra is generally non-aggressive, and that her followers are generally peaceful people. And, you decide that you've done enough reading for one night, stepping away from the computer and going to get some much-needed sleep. You know what you'll find about Megalon, if indeed he is the same monster that took your parents from you. You'll see reports of the destruction, the inefficiency of conventional weaponry against it, and how its location since then is unknown. Nothing you don't already know. Your M.I.T. brain wants to look into the All-Terraintula and Robo Yeti, but you can do that later. You've just gotten home from a big mission, assigned command of a new vessel, and done some research into a monster deity. You've earned a good night's rest.
As the next few months come and go, you find out that the Super-X2 only requires three people to operate, meaning that your command technically only consists of Lena and Absko. However, as a Captain, you can technically give orders to lower ranks so long as they don't interfere with orders from another Captain, a Commander, or the Chief. You are introduced to a woman named Kenji Miku, a pretty Japanese woman who serves under Commander Tagaki, a Japanese man with a calm disposition. You are informed that Miku's job is to monitor situations and communications, reporting to Commander Tagaki and acting as a liaison between him and KRF members in the field.
Until the Super-X2 is complete, you and your comrades fly a simulator of it, learning its controls and and weaponry. The controls, luckily, are similar to those of the Super-X, though designed for three rather than six. Once the vessel is actually complete, you take some time getting to know its inside controls, in case the three of you ever need to command it in-person. You even take it for a few test flights.
Things are pretty calm during this time. No major monster encounters are reported, no word of strikes from the Red Bamboo, no crises on Solgel or Letchi Island. So you allow yourself to take some time for studying, looking into some of the projects that are in the works.
The All-Terraintula is an eight-legged arachnid mech designed to fight and either incapacitate or kill kaiju. It is capable of firing energy beams from the plating below its eyes, and can absorb radiation and kinetic energy, charging an "Anti-Monster Ray". In addition, it is equipped with powerful tranquilizers. It is still under construction.
The "Robo-Yeti" is a colossal mech built to be remotely-controlled by its creator, Doctor Ifukube. It's equipped with chest missiles, large "capture cables" which can be electrified, immense physical strength, and its fingers can be loaded with liquid to then be shot at enemies.

During this time, the twins also approach you, confessing to you their devotion to Mothra, though they clarify that they don't exactly "worship" her, instead seeing her as more of a guardian, or perhaps some sort of angel. They explain that, before joining the KRF, they didn't have any particular devotion to Mothra, but that lately they've both been having vivid dreams about her rising to fight some unknown enemy. They carved stones with her symbol more out of wanting to get the image of it from the dreams out of their head than anything else.
Both express gratitude when they learn that you intend to keep their secret.
As for Project Mechagodzilla, you are informed that Commander Jourdain declined your request to be put on the project. The man himself actually comes to see you shortly after you get the news.
"The project is well underway, but still a long ways off," he tells you. "And I have long since hand-selected the women I need for each specific task in its construction. Besides, I think you are far more valuable in the field. From Mechani-Kong alone, we're learning quite a bit. We need you out there helping us to find new discoveries."
Finally, you receive a summons from Commander Tagaki, who informs you that multiple items have come up in need of investigation.
"The first two are strange," he tells you bluntly. "A woman has appeared at one of our facilities in India claiming that we're about to face some sort of invasion involving kaiju. The UN are looking into this, but they also want someone from our organization to speak with her and look into the whole "giant monster" thing."
He sighs. "The second is some old man who claims he's from Venus, warning about some giant monster named "Ghidorah". He's probably just insane, but we technically have to look into it."
He pulls out some papers. "Let's see, there are rumors of another Zilla somewhere near the Philippines and, a giant shark off the coast of Australia. Lastly, a Doctor Otanashi is requesting transport and protection while she investigates some big find that was pulled out of the ocean. You get your pick of the missions."

Ghidorah.....like Desghidorah, the monster you read about Mothra battling in ancient times? That's quite the coincidence. But what if it's not. It's a bit of a stretch, but what if the dreams that the twins have been having about Mothra are some kind of warning, like the Earth is in some kind of trouble? Great, now you're sounding ridiculous. Still, something about this naggingly insists that you find out more. And while this is nowhere near as glamorous as going out and hunting down a kaiju, it still needs to be done. If it turns out, by some miniscule chance, to be something legitimate, you'll certainly be glad you investigated.
"I want to talk to the supposed Venusian," you tell the Commander.
He looks about as surprised as he ever gets, but his voice remains calm and normal. "If that's what you want, then alright. I was worried I was going to have to force this waste of time on somebody."
"You never know, sir," Miku cuts in from her station. "Kaiju are constantly challenging our concept of reality, and this wouldn't be the first alien we've seen."
"One time, Miku," Tagaki counters. "But, you have a point. Good luck, Captain. You'll have to tend to this in person. I'll have Miku send the location to the Super X-2's computer. It'll be ready when you and your team are ready to get underway."
You salute the commander before running to round up your teammates. Absko, predictably, is not too excited about this mission.
"Why would you waste our time and ship with something like this?" he asks as the three of you make your way to the hangar.
"We could always use more practice flying this thing in-person," Lena tells him, her tone less irritated and a little more positive. "Besides, what if this does turn out to be true? We find out about a big threat, and get to talk to an alien."
"Yeah, and if we suddenly became trillionaires, we'd never have to work again," Absko retorts.
The three of you climb aboard, go to your stations, and get underway with the Super-X2. Traveling at Mach 1, it takes you about nine and a half hours to reach the KRF base in India. While the KRF employs people from virtually every nation on Earth, bases in specific countries are often mostly made up of people native to those countries. So, it isn't a surprise that the man and his soldiers who greet you are Indian.
"Sergeant Patel, at your service," the lead man greets, saluting you and your companions. "Right this way, please."
This base is actually larger than the headquarters in Antarctica. It's well built, and the soldiers you pass all seem just as ready for action as most you've met in the South Pole. In such a large nation with so many people, it is necessary to host a large base with many soldiers and vehicles ready to go. Sure, you don't think any of the trump cards of the organization are here, but you're sure there are maser-vehicles and aircraft enough to give most kaiju a rough day.

"This guy," the sergeant tells you as you make your way through the base. "Name is Vivaan Singh. Lived in a small village, pretty well liked by his family and neighbors. One day, he apparently started acting strange, saying he wasn't Vivaan, but a "Venusian", and that some terrible monster is going to come from space to destroy the world. Most people just dismissed him as insane, but a few seemed to believe him, and word reached the KRF. Sorry to waste your time with this."
You assure him that it's alright as he takes you to the meeting room where your "Venusian" is waiting. He's an old man with a long, white beard, matching the remnants of hair he has on the sides of his head. And, like many people from India, he sports a red Bindi on his forehead.
"I was told you were coming," he says in a monotone voice. "I hope for the sake of all that you will heed my words."
You take a seat across from him, Absko taking a seat to your right, and Lena to your left.
"I promise we'll hear you out," Lena assures him, prompting a slow nod from the man.
"Ghidorah, I've heard of a creature called Desghidorah," you tell him. "Is that a coincidence?"
"No," he tells you. "They are not the exact same creature, but are related. Both are beasts from beyond our solar system that consume and destroy worlds. Desghidorah will appear before King Ghidorah."
"How do you know all of this?" Lena asks curiously.
"This vessel I inhabit is not my true form," Vivaan answers, tugging at his clothes. "This is the body of my descendant, who was born on Earth, but I come from the Planet Venus."
"Right," Absko says, rolling his eyes.
"We were an advanced and peaceful civilization, thriving at the time he came," the man continues. "We had foreseen his coming, but by then it was too late."
"Foreseen it how?" Lena questions.
"Our people possessed psychic abilities, giving us premonitions of things to come," he explains. "When we learned of King Ghidorah's approach, we quickly tried to build defenses against him, but it was all for naught. When he arrives, he reigned destruction upon our world, turning it to the inhospitable, lifeless planet that you know. None of my people remain alive, save our descendants here on Earth. We'd built escape ships in case our new defenses were not enough, and launched them when it became clear we were fighting a losing battle. Most were shot from the sky by King Ghidorah, but a few made it to Earth, where some of us intermarried with your people. We feared that one day King Ghidorah would return, and so planted a small bit of our psychic affinity into our children, to be passed down and awakened when the time came, so that we could speak with you. Sadly, I may be the only one of our bloodlines left, as I have heard of no others spreading my message."
"So what is King Ghidorah, how can we stop him?" Lena asks, sounding like she's taking this seriously, or at the very least deeply invested in this story.

"We have weapons that can do it in an instant," Absko counters.
"Hopefully it will not come to using your nuclear weapons on your own cities to stop King Ghidorah, but I am uncertain if even that would be enough," Vivaan returns. "But you and your force have been creating weapons designed to fight monsters. Perhaps that will be enough."
"Perhaps?" Lena asks. "This "King Ghidorah" is that strong?"
"We had monsters of our own on Venus," Vivaan explains. "King Ghidorah killed them all."
"Well, when is he coming?" Absko asks, sounding annoyed at even humoring the guy enough to ask this question. "How will we know?"
"Certain events will come to pass before his arrival," Vivaan claims. "Crises that you will have to survive before you even face him. First, you will be faced with foes from the sky and beneath the Earth. Monsters under the command of the civilizations of Kilaak, Mysterian, and Mu. From below will come Barugon, the Fire Lion, a great robot, Manda, Megalon, and Obsidius. From the sky shall come Desghidorah, Gamera, and Moguera. Should you overcome these monsters, the spirit of Gojira will rise to torment humanity, his wrath focused on Japan, and then the United States. Humanity will have to join forces with three monsters to stop Gojira."
"What monsters?" Lena asks.
"From the Earth will rise King Caesar," Vivaan answers. "From the sea will rise Gamera. And from the air shall descend Mothra. With their efforts, and those of humanity, the abomination may be defeated. The demon Jiger may also awaken, and after them, from beneath the seas shall a new threat emerge. Overcome these perils, and then King Ghidorah will come. When he emerges, his cry will awaken monsters from across the planet. When they rise to his challenge, then will you know that King Ghidorah has arrived."
Lena sits back, thinking over everything she's heard. "I believe him."
"Oh come on," Absko groans. "It was a fun story, but there's no way it was true."
You point out that he knew about Desghidorah and King Caesar, who aren't exactly commonly known monsters.
"So he either pretended to know what that "Desghidorah" thing was, or maybe he heard about it and King Caesar from somewhere," he suggests. "Obscure doesn't mean unheard of."
You point out that there's a woman going around claiming an invasion is coming.
"People say crap like that all the time," Absko argues. "Just a coincidence."

"I'm unsure," you admit to the others as you study the old man's face. "If it's all true, and we're talking to a psychic remnant of an advanced civilization, that means we'll need some help, and I'm sure there's ways for you to not only help us, but to prove you're telling the truth. We want you to calculate an estimate on where King Ghidorah is right now in space. Or, if you wanna show your psychic ability, I would like you to show me what happened when King Ghidorah attacked your world."
Lena and Absko both look at you, and for once you see approval on Absko's face. He clearly approves of this line of questioning. Lena seems a little less enthused, but you can tell she agrees that this would make things a lot more certain.
"Most of our abilities have disappeared over the millennia," Vivaan explains after a moment. "Our ability to see the future remains, and one other ability should, if you wish to test me. Our people can see in complete darkness. Put me in a dark room and ask me to tell what you are doing, or have me read a book aloud. As for Ghidorah, I only know that he is somewhere on the surface of Venus at the moment. I can tell you where the first strikes from Mu and the Mysterians will occur, however. Megalon will emerge and lay waste to Fort Hamilton in New York if he is not stopped. Moguera will land and destroy The Zhurihe Training Base of the CCP in Mongolia if not stopped. A second Moguera will attack Russia's Severomorsk-1 naval base on the Kola Peninsula, whose nuclear arsenal will then be seized by the invading aliens."
"Can you give us more information on these monsters?" you request.
"Megalon is seen as a god to the people of Mu," he tells you after a moment. "He is a colossal insectoid monster with drills for hands, a giant horn that shoots lightning-like attacks, and spits exploding projectiles from his mouth. He burrows through the Earth, but can also fly."
You tense ever-so-slightly, as he is perfectly describing the monster that took your parents away. Both Absko and Lena look at you, mild concern on their faces, but you raise a hand to tell them you're alright.
"Manda is also seen as a god to Mu," he continues. "He will terrorize the English channel, then attack the British Isles and Ireland. He is a serpentine, wingless dragon with large whiskers. Obsidius is a god of Mu's own making, built of volcanic rock. Glowing magma light up his joints, and his head has three large horns along with an empty, gaping volcanic maw. He will emerge in Indonesia, and, if given time, trigger all fifty-five active volcanoes in the country."

"The Colossus," he further explains, "is an ancient metal guardian of Mu now turned into invading weapon. It is the weakest of Mu's weapons, but can still shoot beam projectiles, change in size, and grow multiple limbs for combat. Barugon is a monster of their own creation, a giant quadruped with a large horn on its snout, two smaller horns above his eyes, rows of short spikes running down his back, and a tail like a whip. He can extend his tongue from mis mouth to strike foes, or freeze them solid. When his spikes glow, he is preparing to fire a rainbow of powerful light from his back."
"A rainbow?" Absko laughs. "Really?"
You don't even have to look to know Lena is glaring at him.
Vivaan continues, looking at you specifically. "Barugon will emerge from Tokyo Bay. The Fire Lion is a dragon-like beast covered in scales and a fiery lion's mane. He can teleport like a flickering flame, and will appear in Cairo."
He takes a breath. "As for the alien's monsters, you already know of Gamera. You may not know that he is a creation of Mu who once turned against them. He is now controlled against his will by the Kilaaks and Mysterians. Mothra is the key to setting him free. He will attack the naval port of Toulon in France. The Mugera are two robots, bipedal, with bulky, segmented bodies. Vaguely rectangular, with a drill for a nose, antennae on its head, and cone-shaped hands with a gap in the middle, giving an appearance of two fingers. It can use a large saw on its back to burrow beneath the ground, and fire beams of energy from its eyes. One will attack Washington DC, and one will attack Bejing, China. "
Finally, he gets to the last monster. "Desghidorah is a terrible beast who once tried to invade Earth, and has since ended all life on the Planet Mars. He lie sleeping before the Kilaaks and Mysterians woke him and placed him under their control. He is a quadruped, three-headed dragon with brown skin and red wings. His speed on land is fast, but in the air he can move at Mach 23. In space, he can move at near lightspeed. He will be held back as a trump card by the aliens, and only appear if and when they begin to lose."
With these descriptions and warnings given, you decide to indeed test the old man. You have him taken to a room which is then cast into complete darkness. You then provide him a book after having Sergeant Patel memorize the first page. Vivaan proceeds to perfectly read it aloud. You and the others then move around the room, standing in different spots and taking various poses. Once again, Vivaan seems to perfectly see as he accurately describes your positions and locations. As you turn the lights back on, he looks to you.

"Whether or not you believe me, I offer you some final warnings," he tells you. "Shortly after leaving this room, you will meet a dark-skinned man with a commanding voice. He has spoken to a woman from Mu. Her warnings and advice should be heeded. The Zilla your people are studying should be buried, not experimented on. And Project Mechagodzilla must not be finished."
Bidding the man farewell, the three of you exit the room with the Sergeant, who notes that you three seem to be deeply considering what you've heard, even Absko.
"Do you three believe all of this, uh, sirs?" Patel questions.
"He might just have good dark vision," Absko suggests. "He clearly put a lot of thought into his stories. Still, while it's hard to believe a man from a small Indian village would know so much, it isn't impossible."
"It also isn't impossible that he's right," Lena counters. "Sergeant, is there another foreign officer on this base interviewing a Mu woman?"
"Commander Pentecost arrived shortly after you did," he answers. "He was assigned to interview the woman claiming that monsters were going to attack."
"And she gave me fairly detailed descriptions of the monsters that are supposedly coming, along with a history of her people," Pentecost announces as he approaches. "She described Megalon perfectly, but there's footage out there of him."
The three of you salute as the Commander stops in front of your group.
"What were the other monsters she mentioned, sir?" Absko asks him.
"Manda, Barugon, Fire Lion, Colossus, and Obsidius," he answers.
"Those are some of the same monsters our Venusian described," Lena points out.
"They may have talked to each other before they came here," Pentecost offers. "They may have even concocted this story together."

"Commander, the Venusian man even predicted your arrival. "I believe him and the Mu woman, and think we should put up defenses in the places Vivaan mentioned."
"I'll talk to the Chief about it," Pentecost tells you after a moment of deliberation. "It'll give us the chance to show off some of our big guns and remind the world that we're ready for whatever comes. Even if this is a load shit, that would be valuable."
"I also think we should take Vivaan to Infant Island to speak with the fairies and give the message to them and Mothra," you further suggest, receiving shocked looks From Absko and Lena.
"You want us to go to Infant Island to deliver that man's warning?" Pentecost asks. "How do we know Mothra won't just attack us for even approaching the island?"
"There have been expeditions to Infant Island that made it back and forth just fine, sir," Lena reminds him. "As long we come in peace, we should be fine."
Pentecost stands where he is, hands on his hips as he looks down, lost in thought. That's when Absko speaks up.
"Sir, I know it's a lot to ask," he tells the Commander. "But if somehow this is all true, we could lose everything by not being prepared."
You and Lena both look at him in surprise. His tone sounded like he really had to force the words out, but not insincere, at the very least. When he looks your way and sees the two of you staring, he visibly bites back a comment, sighs, and shrugs his shoulders.
"I try not to fall for superstition and hoaxers," he tells you. "When I grew up, I heard all sorts of stories that turned out to be nonsense, or words from people pretending to be mystics or prophets, taking advantage of those who didn't know any better. But, there are a few coincidences here that make me thing we should at least look into this."
"Alright," Pentecost says. "We'll take a little trip to Infant Island, have Mothra's fairies talk to the guy. We'll bring the woman along too. Maybe those "Shobijin" will be able to better tell whether or not these people are telling the truth. Sergeant, tell the base commander to make contact with the Serizawa at Letchi Island, tell them to meet us off the coast of Infant Island."
"Yes, sir," Patel replies, saluting before running off to do as instructed.
"You three, get your man and bring him to my hangar. He and the lady will travel with me," Pentecost orders.

The three of you go and grab Vivaan, telling him that there are some others who need to hear his warning. He comes along without a fuss, and after asking some directions, you lead him to the hangar where the Rumbling is waiting. That ship is now under Pentecost's command, and you find the man himself standing with a young woman wearing a white robe. You imagine that she's the Mu woman you were told about, and if nothing else, she doesn't look like she's from India, appearing more Japanese.
"Are you our Venusian?" Pentecost asks as you lead the man over.
"I am," he replies. "I was told that there are others who must hear my message."
"Yes, we're taking the two of you to Infant Island," Pentecost confirms. "You can talk to Mothra and her fairies, see what they make of your stories."
The woman tenses up. "I don't know if Mothra will appreciate my presence. She fought against my civilization long ago, and now they've become a threat to the planet."
"That was a long time ago," Lena offers. "And you weren't there."
"No, but I am a priestess of Megalon, who was there and fought against Mothra in ancient times," she explains.
You try to keep your cool over hearing that this woman worships something like Megalon, not trusting yourself to speak at the moment.
"If you're his priestess, why are you trying to help us stop him?" Absko asks.
"Because the leadership of Mu are taking our gods and guardians and turning them into weapons of war," she replies bitterly. "Controlling them like attack dogs and unleashing them to lay waste to the planet's surface."
"Why are they doing this?" Lena questions.
"Because the people of the surface have abused the planet, as we once did," the priestess answers. "Pollution is running rampant. Your people have spent decades recklessly testing nuclear weapons that not only poison the surface, but disrupt our civilization below. "Our leadership decided enough was enough, and decided to destroy surface civilization. They sent out a signal that your instruments could not detect, and were answered by the Kilaaks and Mysterians. They will be given the surface to rebuild into their new homes, and we will coexist peacefully. That is what we were told. They provided us technology to control monsters, allowing the high priests and priestesses to take direct control of our gods and guardians. It also turned out that they were practicing in secret the same manipulation of life that saw us cast beneath the Earth and seas to begin with, resulting in Barugon. I do not trust these aliens, I do not accept turning our gods into slaves. And I do not accept murdering the innocent of the surface along with the guilty."
"This has to have taken time to prepare," Absko points out. "Why are you just warning us now?"
"Because I did not fully appreciate what we were doing," she answers honestly. "I only recently came to my senses."

"There will be time for questions later," Pentecost says, interrupting further conversation. "Let's get moving."
You salute the Commander as he goes to usher his guest onto the Rumbling, which takes off soon after. You make your way back to the hangar where the Super-X2 landed, climbing aboard and taking off.
Your flight soon sees you hovering above the Serizawa, one of the largest ships in the arsenal of the KRF. Armed with missiles, maser turrets, and built of an incredibly strong but lightweight titanium alloy, this was one of the best options to send to oversee Letchi and Sollgel Island. You don't stay long, just getting loaded into lifeboats and making your way to the island.
Infant Island was, back in the 60s, in bad shape due to irradiation from the nuclear tests being performed nearby. Since those tests have stopped, it seems that Infant Island has regrown incredibly fast, now covered once again in lush jungle. Due to some unique properties of the native flora, or do to Mothra's influence, or maybe both, you aren't certain. Still, it's an impressive sight.
When you reach the shore, a group of the natives are waiting for you. Among them is one you recognize, Dayo. The woman who helped you defeat the Red Bamboo smiles upon recognizing Absko, Lena, and yourself. She rushes to meet you, giving each of you a hug when she does.
"It is good to see you," she declares, still smiling as she takes a step back. "Welcome to Infant Island."
"Did everyone make it home safe?" Lena asks hopefully.
"They did," Dayo confirms with a nod. "Every slave was freed and sent to their home islands."
"There were people from islands other than yours and Letchi?" Absko questions.
"Yes, there were people from Mondo Island and Sergio Island as well," Dayo explains.
"Not....what was that other one?" Lena says, struggling to remember.
"Storm Island," Dayo finishes for her, tone suddenly icy. "And no, nobody from that island was there."
You think you vaguely remember information on Sollgel Island saying that the natives of that island were afraid of Storm Island, and a creature there called "Axor".
"What brings you here?" Dayo inquires, changing the subject.
"We need to speak with your Shobijin," Pentecost speaks up. "These two have a warning for them."
"A warning?" Dayo frowns, her stance changing to ready herself for fight or flight. "Do you threaten our home?"
"No, nothing like that," he assures her. "Their warning is about some kind of monster threat that Mothra is supposed to be involved with."
Dayo shares glances with the other islanders gathered with her. After a moment, she turns and starts back toward the jungle, waving for you to follow.
It's a long trek before you finally reach your destination, and once you do, you double-take. There are dozens of people, bowing in the same direction. In front of them are two tiny, beautiful women dressed in red. And behind them......
Mothra.

You've encountered kaiju before, but standing armed with only a handheld maser gun in front of an S-Class kaiju and her followers is enough to make your heart beat faster. Dayo, on the other hand, strides forward with confidence, followed by her fellow islanders, who kneel before the shobijin.
"These people have come to deliver a warning to you," she explains to the pair. "They say Mothra is going to be involved in some coming threat."
The twin fairies look to each other, then back to Dayo, nodding. Dayo gestures your group forward, and you carefully approach. Dayo and the islanders move to the side, allowing you to get close. Lena kneels respectfully, as does the Mu Priestess, though you get the feeling the latter may be more out of fear.
"Welcome," the twins say in unison. "Why have you come to our island?"
"These two have a message," Pentecost says carefully, eyes rising to keep his gaze on Mothra, for whatever good that will do.
The priestess and Venusian tell the twin fairies what they told you, and the two tiny women listen intently. As the stories progress, greater and greater concern appears on their faces, and you're confident that they, too, believe what they're hearing.
"We have sensed a coming darkness," the twins once again say in unison. "And so has Mothra. But we did not know its identity."
"So, do you believe them?" asks Absko.
"We do."
"And will Mothra fight?" he questions further.
Once again, the twins share a look before speaking together. "Mothra has grown old. Even now she approaches the end of her life. She has laid an egg, but we know not when it will hatch. But, Mothra is a guardian of the Earth. Though not at her full strength, she will fight for the planet."
Mothra lifts her head and lets out a cry, as if confirming her commitment to the coming fight.
"Well, can't say I expected all of this," Pentecost admits. "But it looks like there really is something to all of it."
He turns to you. "We'll give our reports and recommendations to the others Commanders and the Chief."
"I have one more recommendation," you tell him. "I think the Super-X2 should be sent to fight Megalon, the Colossus, or Barugon, so we can make use of its anti-beam technology."
"I agree," Pentecost tells you. "Though these Moguera robots can also fire energy projectiles. Maybe we'll send you to fight one of them."
He looks to the twin fairies and lowers his head in respect. "Thank you for your help. Mothra could make a big difference."
"And Gamera as an ally would be....interesting," Lena comments.
"It's going to be hard to get people to accept that," Pentecost tells her. "Mothra and Gamera caused a lot of destruction in their day."
"Well, hopefully they'll prove themselves," Lena replies.
"We'd better get back to space and start preparing, sir," Absko suggests.
"Right," the Commander agrees. "Thank you for your time, ladies. Let's move out, people."

As Dayo leads you back through the jungles of Infant Island, it occurs to you that you really haven't made conversation with her outside of crisis situations. Technically this still counts, but it’s a calm moment, and the danger hasn’t come yet. Seems as good a time as any to actually talk to one of the people you faced great peril alongside.
“How’s your family?” you ask the woman. “Are they okay?”
“Yes, now that I’m home, my parents and brother are doing much better,” she assures you with a smile.
Not knowing what else to do in terms of smalltalk, you change the conversation.
“Do the people of the different islands around here stay in contact, or are you all on your own?” you ask, not entirely sure what the situation is with the scattered islands.
“We mostly keep to ourselves,” she tells you. “But we do occasionally send boats to trade or check on one-another. We all descend from the same tribe, so we still feel connected to them.”
“The same tribe?” Lena asks. “Oh, right, you all used to live on Sollgel island.”
“Right,” Dayo confirms with a nod. “We were known as the Iwi back then. When the Skullcrawlers overran our island and killed the great apes, we went our separate ways to different islands.”
“Like Kong?” Absko asks.
“He’s the last of his kind that we know of,” Dayo tells him. “He was just a child when the Skullcrawlers killed his parents and the rest of his kind. So, some among us believed he wouldn’t be able to protect us any further. Some believed he would continue to protect us, or were loyal to the last of the creatures that had protected us for countless generations. Some of us came to Mothra, others went to Gorosaurus, appeasing the great lizard with offerings of food. Others went to Gezora, trusting him to guard the waters around their island.”
“Your people should not have left us,” the Mu priestess speaks up. “You would have been safer with Mu.”
Dayo looks confused. “Mu? Your home?”
“I guess it’s been enough generations that your people have started to forget. When we first found our home beneath the Earth, and established the new kingdom of Mu, some decided to venture out into the Hollow Earth without us,” the Priestess explains. “They became known as the Iwi, and found guardians of their own, not that it was enough.Most of them were forced to flee to the surface, or back to us.”
Dayo says nothing, apparently not having heard all of that before, but not arguing with it, either.
“Why did you react the way you did when Lena mentioned Storm Island?” you decide to ask Dayo, once again changing the subject. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“No,” Dayo tells you honestly. “But to answer your question, there is a terrible monster on that island. Axor. None of us dare approach that place.”
Not wanting to bother her with pressing the subject further, but making a mental note about Axor, you speak to Commander Pentecost, asking what’s going to happen with Vivaan and the Mu woman.
“They’ll come to base with us for now,” Pentecost answers. “We’ll have them act as advisors until this whole thing is over, then send them home or wherever they want to go.”
Bidding Dayo farewell, you make your way back to the ship, then take the Super-X back to base, remarking to Commander Pentecost that you want to pilot it in person when the time comes.
“Brave of you,” Pentecost remarks. “I have no arguments against it, aside from the fact that the three of you dying would be a loss.”

The trip back to base is uneventful, with both the Super-X2 and Rumbling making it home without incident. Upon disembarking, you and the others travel with Commander Pentecost to report to the other Commanders, and the Chief about your missions. This is somewhat delayed by Pentecost requesting a larger meeting that includes various Commanders and other pilots of the KRF’s most powerful ships.
“You’ve actually found these reports to be credible?” Chief Namikawa inquires skeptically.
“Yes, Ma’am,” Pentecost confirms. “We’re going to need to prepare.”
And so, the requested individuals are assembled: The Mu Priestess, Vivaan, your team, Chief Namikawa of Japan, Commander Gordon of the United States (Captain of the Gotengo), Commander Pentecost of Britain, Commander Tagaki of Japan and his protege Kenji Miku (also of Japan), Captain Gyozen of Japan (Captain of the Atragon), Captain Colette Durand of France (Captain of the Eclair), Captain Akane Yashiro of Japan (Captain of the Karyu), and Captain Malthe Dalgaard from Sweden (Captain of the Super-X). Commander Jourdain was invited, but unable to attend.
“Thank you all for coming,” Chief Namikawa addresses the assembled group. “Commander Pentecost and Captain Alonso have recently returned from interviewing individuals who have spoken of coming threats. While their claims may seem difficult to accept, both the Commander and Captain are convinced of their sincerity. If correct, we will soon be facing a global threat, made up in large part by kaiju.”
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Pentecost speaks. “The man here from India, Mr. Vivaan, claims to be the psychic remnant of a person from Venus, here to warn us of coming threats. They have so far displayed evidence for some of their claims, and I’d ask you all to remember that in the nineties, the Japanese government documented psychic abilities in multiple individuals, most notably Miki Saguesa. I’d also remind you all that we do know extraterrestrial life to exist. The woman here, Chiara, claims to come from an underground civilization called “Mu”, who intend to make war with us.”
The assembled officers display varying degrees of skepticism, with some, such as Commander Gordon and Commander Tagaki, seemingly ready to accept whatever they hear here today, and others, such as Captain Gyozen, seeming as though they are already considering this a waste of time. Nobody says anything aloud, but most seem unwilling to really hide their thoughts with their expressions. The room remains silent as Commander Pentecost gestures the two guests forward.

The assembled group listen closely as both Vivaan and Chiara explain the coming threat. A few of the skeptics seem to take it a bit more seriously as the descriptions are made, either due to recognizing a few of the mentioned kaiju or the level of detail being shown in these explanations. When Vivaan insists that Mothra is the key to freeing Gamera, and that the two monsters will assist the Earth, Gyozen finally decides to say something.
“Bah, this is absurd,” he declares gruffly. “These are mindless beasts we’re talking about. The only “help” we might expect is if any of these monsters wander into their territory.”
“The Shobijin of Infant Island have already promised Mothra’s aid,” Pentecost informs him. ”And that particular kaiju is different from many of the others.”
“He’s right,” Miku agrees, speaking out of turn. “Mothra is a guardian of the Earth, and she will defend it.”
“Pfeh,” Gyozen grumbles.
“People, please,” Commander Tagaki speaks up. “Please, continue.”
They continue on, describing each monster, while Vivaan goes on to detail the coming reckoning with Gojira, where Gamera, Mothra, and King Caesar will stand with humanity against the great monster. Gyozen interrupts several times, prompting further arguments with Miku and Lena, until all three are firmly ordered to remain silent by Commander Pentecost, who threatens to have them thrown out of the meeting. Finally, Vivaan once again reiterates that a threat, apparently alien in nature, will emerge from beneath the seas. When they describe Ghidorah, and the awakening of the other monsters, Gyozen looks almost wrathful, perhaps imagining all the ways he could destroy King Ghidorah and these other kaiju.
“Now, we need to decide who will be assigned to face which kaiju,” Tagaki announces once the two guests have finished speaking.
“I want to fight Megalon,” you declare to everyone present.
Absko and Lena both give you looks of concern, knowing why you want this. There’s a very good chance that this is the very same monster that killed your mother and father, that traumatized your brother. It’s eating away at you knowing this thing is coming back, and when it does, you want to face it.
“Megalon is a burrowing creature. You may be able to deflect its rays, but it can evade you below the Earth,” Gyozen argues. “Sent the Atragon to deal with this so-called “god”.”
“The Atragon and Gotengo are the only two ships equipped with freezing abilities,” Chief Namikawa points out. “We’ll need at least one of you to face Obsidius.”
I’ll take the Gotengo to face Obsidius, and he can have the Fire Lion,” Commander Gordon declares.

“Then it seems you can have your wish,” Namikawa decides, looking at you. “Do not let us down. The Eclair will hold off Gamera until Mothra can arrive, and destroy him if she does not. The Rumbling will destroy Manda when he surfaces in the English Channel. The Karyu will face Barugon. Where will the Colossus appear?”
“Mumbai, India,” Vivaan answers.
“The Super-X should make short work of it,” Namikawa decides.
“That leaves the two Moguera,” Pentecost points out.
“Commander Jourdain assures me that two of his projects are nearly ready for deployment,” Namikawa responds. “They will be sent to intercept the Mogueras.”
“And Desghidorah?” Tagaki inquires.
“We’ll divert our forces once they win and prepare them to face that last threat,” Namikawa promises. “This meeting is adjourned.
As you and the others depart from the meeting room and go your separate ways, Absko and Lena follow you, each wearing concern on their faces.
“Are you sure about this?” Lena asks. “Maybe we should have fought Barugon or Manda.”
“I know you want revenge for your family,” Absko says. “But will you be able to control your emotions and fight effectively when you face that monster?”
You bite back a retort, knowing they each have a point, but you need to do this. You just hope that they’ll be able to help you keep in control if you start to lose it. It’s a big responsibility to put on their shoulders, but you trust them. You’ve been through a lot together.
With that in mind, you make sure to spend some time with them in the days leading up to the battle. During that time, you learn a little more about each of them. It seems Lana was a nature lover pretty much her whole life, being obsessed with animals and considering going to study zoology in higher education before deciding to join the KRF. She regularly corresponds with her parents and older brother. Absko, as it turns out, likes making wood carvings, and is very good at it, making lifelike recreations of some of the kaiju you all have encountered. He also has a wife back home whom he’s been trying to convince to come live on base. . You enjoy their company outside of combat scenarios and training, and spend time just chatting, relaxing, enjoying meals, and spending what time together you can.
Then, the day of reckoning arrives, and the Super-X2 is deployed to the United States to confront Megalon. You were given your wish of going there personally, and as you approach the aforementioned military base, you see it already in chaos, as one of the offices collapses into a massive hole in the ground. From the pit leaps a massive insectoid monster with a horned head and drill hands. The beast you say in those photos and videos. The beast that took your parents from you. The beast that the people of Mu worship as some kind of god.
Megalon.

Letting out a screeching cry, the creature fires light from its horn, incinerating another building. He then opens his disgusting mouth, launching thin, glowing darts that strike the ground before exploding, killing several base staff and soldiers in seconds.
Once more, the beast lets out a shrieking cry.

Seeing this monster, and the destruction it's causing certainly makes you feel certain things. It reminds you of the rapid and terrible ruin it brought to your home, of how it took your family away from you. It reignites emotions that have festered within you for some time now. This is why your friends were worried about facing this particular kaiju. It’s understandable that they would worry about you not being able to handle this properly, and perhaps there was some wisdom in the idea of facing another of the monsters. But, you had to do this.
You’ll make sure you do it right.
Soldiers and vehicles scatter in terror in the face of this terrible beast’s onslaught, while a brave but foolish few attempt to fight the monster with small arms fire. The beam of lightning from Megalon’s horn incinerates several of the men and vehicles attempting to flee its rampage, while those that stand and fight are crushed beneath its feet. As the Super-X2 draws in close, you realize that the only chance for anyone to survive this is to draw Megalon away from the base. There’s no guarantee, after all, that you can slay the monster before he kills everyone else.
“Let’s get that thing’s attention,” you tell the others. “Fire maser cannons.”
Blue beams of light fire from your craft, streaking across the sky and hitting their target dead-on, causing Megalon to cry out as he’s struck. Further shots draw further sounds of pain and alarm, and succeed in getting his attention. He turns toward you, his horn glowing as he prepares to fire upon you.
“Evasive maneuvers!" you call, and the Super-X2 moves just in time to avoid being hit.
“Fire missiles!” you order, and as explosions rock the gigantic bug, you call out. “Lead him away from the base.”
The Super X-2 turns and begins flying away at full speed, hoping to lure Megalon away from the base. Fortunately, you succeed in that goal. Unfortunately, Megalon gives chase more quickly than the Super-X2 can flee. Within moments, he is directly above the craft. Immediately after, something strikes the top of the vehicle, before you and your crew are violently rocked as an explosion hammers the craft. It seems Megalon has got you with one of his projectiles.
You and the others check the damage, which thankfully is manageable. Still, you can’t take too many shots like that.
Megalon shoots past the Super-X2, turning and landing directly in your path. The massive creature opens its mouth wide in a challenging cry, its horn glowing.

“Activate the Fire Mirror, quickly!”
Your friends are already at work before you finish the sentence, and because of that, you make it in time.
The front of the craft splits apart, revealing perhaps the greatest weapon in its arsenal: The Fire Mirror. This mirror is specifically built to redirect energy-based attacks, such as the atomic breath displayed by the Godzillas, the breath weapons of Gappas or Yonngary, and now, hopefully, the beam being shot by the foul Megalon.
The mirror is displayed, and the ship angled enough to send the beam right back at its maker. When Megalon fires, the attack hits the mirror dead-on, and bounces right back at Megalon, hitting the beast right in the chest. Smoke rises from the creature’s chest, and it lets out a pained cry as it staggers backwards, falling to the ground on its back.
Perhaps not understanding what happened, Megalon fires another beam as it sits up, only for the same to happen, and the creature to be knocked back with smoke rising from its body. Crying out in pain and outrage, it turns over, pushes itself up, and rises back to its feet. Turning to the craft and unleashing another battle-cry, it opens its mouth and shoots another of its slim projectiles, but the fast reflexes of your crew and yourself allow the Super-X2 to narrowly evade the attack.
Megalon tilts its head as it watches your craft, not seeming to entirely understand what it’s dealing with here, and perhaps viewing you as some animal or other living creature that is attacking it. This confused fascination does not last long, however, as the monster resumes its fighting stance, slamming its two drill hands together, and giving a challenging cry.

The cadmium missile is a finisher, when there's an opening and if we needed. Until one presents itself, we should press our advantage with the other weapons. It would suck to squander it.

Figuring that Megalon has well and truly learned his lesson, and is unlikely to once-again use his horn beam, you think that relying on the Fire Mirror from this point on will avail you very little. If anything, it’ll probably get the three of you killed. The Cadmium missile is something you should only use when you’re poised to deliver the coup de gras, that leaves you with missiles and maser beams to try and overwhelm the beast.
“Fire missiles and masers!” you order, and both of your friends quickly get to work, unleashing a potent barrage of missile blasts and maser beams.
Megalon cries out in pain as he is struck by a variety of punishing blasts. The beast staggers backward, his body becoming enveloped in smoke from the exploding missiles, obscuring him from your view. Yet, you continue firing, not letting up for several seconds, as you continue to hear the monster cry out in distress.
A part of you relishes this, enjoying this little bit of revenge. Nothing will bring back your parents. Nothing will adequately pay this monster back for its trespasses against your family and so many others. But hearing it cry out in pain does make the pain dull for a moment, replaced by a dark satisfaction.
The smoke rises, obscuring the monster’s face, but not before he opens his mouth and fires another slim projectile, striking the Super-X2 directly in the Fire Mirror. The entire craft is violently shaken by the following explosion, and all three of you hold on tightly to avoid being tossed away from your stations. The lights flicker, and alarms sound out as you steady the craft.
“The Fire Mirror is badly damaged,” Lena informs you in a worried voice.
“We’ve also exhausted about half of our missiles,” Absko adds tensely.
The smoke begins to clear from around Megalon, revealing the state of the monster. He is bleeding, badly. Lines of thick, green liquid streak down his body from multiple places, from his chest, to his arms, to just below the right side of his face. As he roars once again, you could swear that his voice sounds weaker, and perhaps a bit frightened.
And, rather than attacking, he extends his insectoid wings and lifts off the ground.

Megalon is facing us, right? I say we could blast center mass with rockets, and whoever controls the maser cannon to aim and shoot and one of it's wings, to shoot if they feel they can make it.
If we shoot the wings there's an opportunity that we can follow it and give the last blow
