Because Clark is astroturfed and boring. She's not even a good player and her teammates are better than her. I posted Angel last week and it got a bunch of replies. Notice how this thread had nothing to do with Angel and she still got brought up immediately, with half the replies in this thread being about her? Angel is the main source of attention to the WNBA, and the WNBA is not even on right now. Unrivaled plays tonight.

They're demanding a tiny fraction of the revenue share and the WNBA rich fat owners are like lol no.

If you want to see what she looks like naturally just watch a game. She's in the Unrivaled playoffs. She wears minimal makeup on the court. You can't fake facial structure with mascara. Everyone you see on tv is wearing makeup including most men.

i remember reading an article about some bench player on the brooklyn nets years ago talking about how he could barely afford an apartment and honestly i believe him some of these lower level guys are barely making a million a year and nyc is expensive. nigga had roommates kek
>>
>>
>>153645873
if its near the barclays center which is the nets stadium its probably expensive as fuck and he has other expenses too.
>You aren’t going to sucker Nets rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson into shelling out thousands and thousands a month just for a NYC zip code. As the Journal writes, the 20-year-old has called the city’s rents “ridiculous,” and even though he’s earning $1.33 million for his first year with the NBA team, he’d rather have roommates than blow all that cash on an apartment.
https://www.6sqft.com/nets-rookie-shares-a-nj-apartment-with-two-roomm ates-because-he-cant-afford-ny-rent /
>>
>>
>>153645803
But your salary needs to last you the whole year not just 4 months anon and it’s more expensive to get short term leases.
>>153645854
NBA salaries are so high it’s not a problem. You can just throw $10k/mo in rent if you’re earning over a mil per year.
>>

Well, they're not playing for a team in the Donbass, Euro leagues are just as stable and contracts just as valid as WNBA. You could argue whether the WNBA or the other league is their primary income. And most athletes don't live in the city they work in full time, especially high tax locales like CA and NY.
>>
>>153646145
Euro leagues famously aren’t stable at all for men or women which is why most players constantly bounce from club to club. And what happens if you get injured? You fuck your knee and you are in deep shit.
I think you’re being obtuse if you don’t think it’s struggle for WNBA 2nd stringers on minimums, especially given the small rosters.
>>
>>153646221
I'm just saying that someone who is making $60k in 4 months can get a place for a few months and make it work. They can make it work.
It's not like they are sitting with a thumb up their ass the remaining 8 months, they're making money elsewhere.

I think the league is bluffing. The players don't want to accept a 15% revenue share because it's so low. They're asking for 30% which is already really low. It should be 50% to the players. The league knows the players are ready to strike, and the league will miss out on massive revenue. They didn't spend hundreds of millions on new teams this year for them not to play.

I watched three 1v1 and a couple of 3v3, and I think I like Unrivaled more than the WNBA
>>
>>153649082
Clark was relatively unknown before Angel Reese beat her in college, and that Barstool Jew got triggered and started telling his massive audience that Reese is a terrible person for trash talk, and that Clark is the best player ever (she's not even the best on her team).
As for Angel, she had a over a million followers, was a millionaire, and led both girls and guys in college in NIL deals in the country... all before the controversy with Caitlin.
I don't hate Caitlin. These are all just facts. Angel was popular before her, Angel gets more attention, and most of Caitlin's fans are just butthurt over Angel and won't shut up about her.

caitlin broke pistol pete's scoring record (even if it shouldn't count because she played one more year) and was a huge draw before the 2023 title game
their 'rivalry' was used as the selling point for the next year in both college and the pros so it could be another bird vs magic thing
>>
>>153649119
That was a year after her controversy with Angel.
Kelsey Plum had the scoring record before Caitlin and nobody cared. They hyped up Caitlin to get at Angel.
I'd believe she was a draw relative to the games she was playing, but she was unknown outside of college wbb fans. Angel wasn't nationally known yet either but statistically more popular.
Without Angel I think Caitlin would be about half as popular as Sabrina. Which is fairly popular but not too much.

Workers from companies that don't make money still get paid. It's like saying Uber drivers shouldn't be paid because Uber wasn't profitable until 2023.
Importantly, we have no idea how much money the WNBA makes because they keep their financial records private. Any claims on how much money they make are pure speculation.
What we do know: 1) Rich people are itching to buy WNBA teams for hundreds of millions of dollars. The league is expanding rapidly with 6 new teams in merely 6 years. Growth is astronomical. Nobody does that to lose money. The investors know how profitable it is. 2) Corporation love to cry that they are "losing money" so they can underpay workers. 3) They refuse to show their financial records to the players who are at the negotiation table. The players said to them, "Ok, if you can't pay us because it's not profitable, prove it, stop keeping it secret, then you won't have to pay us, easy peasy." And the league was like "ummmmm no :)"
Put two and two together.
>>
>>153649240
Fair enough. I'd rather the players have the money since they're the main contributors. I just thought they were paid so little because the league genuinely lose money every year.
>because they keep their financial records private
All this while i thought the union had access to it since it's common sense. Didn't know they can use the "source: trust me bro" trick here.

eh, we'll see how many of those 6 teams actually enter the league. When CC joined the league poeple thought that getting into the WNBA now was like getting into the NBA in 1979 when Magic and Bird joined the league. But the NBA pushed Magic and Bird and the WNBA set to destroy CC. She barely played last year and the WNBA has tried to push anyone but her. WNBA ratings were down 50% when CC got injured.
So yea, it wouldn't surprise me if some or most of those new teams never materialize.

>employees for companies that don't make money still get paid
they have contracts that stipulate they get paid, but the oftentimes don't. what usually happens is the business managers use the employee payroll to try and keep the business solvent, then employees either go on strike or quit, and then the business goes bust.

A clear push by execs to make wnba players look hot and not like gross dykes that they are. If exec’s want strong women’s sports fandom they need to make a serious volleyball league. It doesn’t have to be beach volleyball to avoid the deranged feminists but regular vb in a gymnasium/Bball court

The minimum salary in the WNBA is something like 66K. Sure if you're in Indianapolis or even Atlanta or Dallas you can probably get a pretty okay apartment for that. But you play in a place like New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco, you're not only probably not signing a one year lease or investing in property, but you're probably stuck in either a small apartment, a rough neighborhood or a tough commute.

Prolly a mix of penny pinching ethos and knowing that his time in the NBA is limited
So be frugal because it has to last you a lifetime and you're likely to have a lot of health problems after 40 because you're tall with long limbs.
Guy's currently in the Philippines after stints in Turkey and Puerto Rico.
For every AI going out there and deciding that he's gotta make all his friends from the hood's money problems go away while buying lambos and packing G-strings at the club to the brim there are 10 guys who grew up either poor enough to not want to be poor again or rich enough that their dad hired a financial adviser and shoehorned them into business classes at universities like Duke, Michigan or UCLA.

WNBA is refusing to budge on the salary increase. Be interesting to see what happens.
I do think they are probably lowballing but the WNBA’s finance and operating structure such a mess that it’s unclear what fair is. The league was never intended to make this amount of money or a profit.
Too many are undervaluing the WNBA side of it imo. Trying to set up a new league sounds good on paper but would really struggle and players might end up with much less. I think Unrivaled is quietly on death’s door.
