This is Milo, the Paralympics mascot. Milo was born without a right leg and learned to use his tail to walk, run and hop.

I had to appeal a ban so I wasn't able to reply to this earlier, but:
You see this? This is what the Olympics are about. Look at it. It's just NICE. Everyone's having a good time. Everybody's happy. If you go to a football match, most people are angry, because their team is losing, or because they haven't scored, or because they're winning in the wrong way, or because the team is owned by Arabs, or any one of a hundred other reasons. People are angry at football. People are angry in other sports too: basketball is too political, the NFL is soulless, cricket is full of smelly Indians, rugby is crap. People are angry outside of sport, all the time, because all jobs are shit jobs, nobody has any money, women won't speak to you because social media has made them permanently afraid of being raped, even your own friends have withdrawn from society. Everyone is always gloomy, or perpetually furious.
Except at the Olympics. The Olympics is a party. It's always great when your country wins a medal, but if you don't win, it's okay because nobody actually cares about javelin or aerial skiing the rest of the time. So it's win-win in that respect. We all stop watching the news, because at last there's something better to watch, which - again - isn't just trying to make you angry. If you browse social media, it's all about happy sporting moments instead of the usual ragebait about problematic pronouns or how le wvst hvs fvllen. It's just happiness, everywhere. Everything is happy, everything is wholesome, and everything is just so NICE. It's impossible to recreate this feeling at any other time, because even if you were happy, even if something great happened to you, the people around you would still be miserable. But during the Olympics, there is only positivity. It's like if your birthday lasted two weeks. Everyone is nice to you, and you are nice back, because it's the only time when everyone is happy.
It's no wonder it hurts so much when it ends.

Great post, it’s true. I realized last year my mood was getting tied up in the performance of my team and am trying to step back and I think these Olympics further made me realize how much of the “system” is designed to make me miserable and it doesn’t have to be that way and how can I fix it in my life.
For example They’re trying to make the Olympics political here, especially the left and liberals, but I’m just not having it.

In the 1994 winter olympics, the mascots were two viking children named Kristin and Håkon. In every town, they picked two children to represent these mascots. About five years later, I made out with the girl who was Kristin in my town. That's my favorite olympic mascot moment.

Are you sure it was just the leftists? Like right wingers weren't making memes about Alysa being anti-LGBT? Like people here weren't attacking Amber Glenn for being bisexual and "woke"? Like Americans here weren't accusing the judges of purposefully scoring American athletes lower because they hated Trump? Like people here weren't demanding to know about Klaebo's political opinions (https://archive.4plebs.org/sp/thread/153588740/#153588740) so they could see if he was based or not?

This is so based. Yugoslavia must have been such a great country back when it existed. None of the current countries that replaced it sound very nice at all, but I would have loved to visit Yugoslavia.

For me, nothing will ever beat Lillehammer 1994 when Vladimir Smirnov from Kazakhstan won the 50 km and everybody cheered for him because he was such a likable guy and we loved his rivalry and friendship with the Norwegians. Afterwards, he would show up in commercials and travel programs with the Norwegian skiers.

It was quite literally the best country in the world. Now we are a poor shithole that everyone left except people who have properties to rent to tourists. I don't. Fuck my life.

Tragically cute.
This year's mascots were designed by the students of a school in the south of Italy as part of a nationwide contest, and as far as I know the kids who worked on them didn't get tickets or recognition of sorts. #italy

>>
>tfw just realized Milo and Tina are named after Milan and Cortina respectively
god I am stupid
>>153641780
This is absolute genius though it's a shame his great design will be buried alongside the rest of the Paralympics. I just feel bad watching it- like I'm some sort of Roman senator finding amusement from watching gladiators fight to the death except each gladiator is missing a limb or has some unusual physical impairment.

>>153635465
Great mascot but I feel sad since stoats were used to make some of the fur on royal capes.
>>153648829
It'll likely be 10 mascots to celebrate our diversity and sell more souvenirs, all made in China.
>>153675455
Did they at least get interviewed by local TV?

Two years ago one of the students was invited to the biggest TV event of the year in Italy and stood on stage for five minutes as the presenter revealed the winning designs, that's the only recognition they received as far as I'm aware.
The kid on stage might have been a class president or the principal's son and not have been involved in the design for all I know of.
Ah, but he was wearing a branded tracksuit, maybe (some of) the other students got them as well.
At any rate, having kids compete to design the olympic mascots and then barely mention the winners while selling €18 to €45 plushes based on their design is one of the most Italian things that could happen, I don't have any trouble believing the winners didn't get anything more than a thank you card written by someone's assistant's assistant.

These are the actual designs, so as you can see only the vague ideas were used. Can you not find who the original authors were anywhere on the Italian internet?

Best selling Olympic mascot and the first transgender Olympic mascot. You hate it because the tv told you to hate it. The people showed their love by purchasing more Izzy merch than any mascot before or since. And don't forget, he could turn into a she for women's events and no one made a big deal out Izzy being trans. People simply didn't care about it back then.

sport just isn't the same without being bitterly disappointed the majority of the time. it's an important outlet, i feel bad for fans of winning teams.
