Imagine not just watching it comfy from home for a grand total of 0$ instead of spending 999999999$ for nosebleed tickets and getting shot in parking lot then having to pay another 999999999$ in medical bills and another 999999999$ in legal fee’s once ICE arrests you in the hospital for overstaying your visa

>there are europeans go to the US for vacation/tourism
Why? I get why latrinoes come up here because we are still a step up from their shitholes but it boggles my mind that there are still Euros, even if it’s a shrinking percentage, that willingly pay money to travel here when they already live on the best continent.

The problem with the American World Cup is it's the first World Cup truly in the age of Globalization, Social Media Clout and post-Hooliganism.
They see there being enough people between Global Tourists and Rich Locals in every city that they can charge these ridiculous prices and get them. Sure spending 4000 dollars for four tickets to a match is expensive to most people, but to the 1% it's nothing.
Places New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and Boston aren't exactly regions that are strapped for cash or desperate for tourists.
Even Kansas City, the closest thing we have to a truly normal level city, is extremely rich, has a thriving history of food and music and is frankly an escape for a lot of people who already spend most of their time in megacity type environments like many ultrarich types do.
Like growing up where I did and living where I do, I certainly see Cowboy Hats and Barbecue and Buc-ees.

Fair enough
>iconic cities
Every one of our “globally known” cities is a complete step down from globally known European cities in every way. Everybody in Europe rips on Paris and after visiting it last year all I could think was “this is a billion times better than any US city I’ve spent meaningful time in”. Better than SF, Chicago, LA, DC, or Boston. I’ve never been to NYC so can’t speak to that one.
And that’s for supposed “ruined shithole” Paris. Then you have cities like Munich, Prague, Budapest, Vienna that I’ve been to as well and they all shit all over US cities.
>inb4 hurrdurr self hating American
There are great things about this country. Cities aren’t one of them.

Most of them are being reduced due to budget constraints or like the "epicentre of WC 26" in NY/NJ have been cancelled. Seattle, Bay Area, Boston, Miami, Kansas City, ... have been scaled back and others don't have the funding to stay open for a month.

Looks like you basically answered your own question there.
Those fanzones essentially suck away tourism dollars for local businesses and put them into the pockets of FIFA.
What gives a city's businesses and ultimately tax base more money, people watching their countries in a fan pool for camera purposes or people packing every restaurant and bar with a big screen TV to watch the match they're not attending?
People clinging to these fanzones cause they were semi-kino for goal reactions in the past, but what is it besides a Freedom Truck, 8 dollar Bud Lights and some shitty Sysco shit into pockets that leave the city

FIFA doesn't get the money from overpriced drinks, food, merch, ... sold at fanfests. Odd that organisers even struggle to find sponsors to cover the costs of these fanfests; should be able to drown people in ads. Also, they help to get more people to come out for the games.
Where Qatar, Russia, Brazil, S.Africa and to a lesser extent Germany lost billions was public infrastructure and renovating or building new stadiums/white elephants. Not fanfests. The US spent nowhere near to what previous hosts did while the event is bigger than ever and stadium owners are price gouging even on stuff like parking. Handicap parking usually is free.

>I’ve never been to NYC
I went once. The thing that struck me about Manhattan, where I was, is that it’s literally just banks and skyscrapers. When I go to places, I want to see local life, so I spent ages walking around trying to buy a Twinky from a Walmart because we don’t have either of those over here but they’re mentioned on TV all the time, and it was totally impossible. All I saw were giant glass banks and offices. I don’t think anybody even lives there.

The money doesnt go to FIFA, those Fan festivals are organized by fans or the city the match is hosted in. They never charged for simple entrance, even Qatar got that right. Its a place where Fans of the NTs can gather and hangout. This is just another cash grab.
>>153683280
Well, that sucks big time then.

I’m not defending being a tourist in the US because I agree with the other guy, this country is too vast, too expensive, too many “undesirables” to be a good tourist destination. However part of that is on you for bad planning. Most euro cities have areas like manhattan, usually called the business district or something, and it’s a similar experience. You gotta know what you want from a trip and plan accordingly, it would have been trivial for you to find out manhattan is just a huge business district. There are great things to do and see in this country, but it takes a lot of money and effort to do them if you don’t already live here.

tickets for the matches shouldn't even be 225 dollars. FIFA is so fucking awful and corrupt and greedy, it HAS to stop. If just 3 big national teams tell FIFA to fuck off like Norway was kinda planning on doing and just do this whole world cup thing without FIFA it would be such a blessing. No more Qatar, Russia and Saudi Arabia world cups, no more world cups in 3rd world shitholes that go bankrupt building stadiums they don't need and never fill again, no winter world cup to accommodate the same shitholes. Yes football is a global game but you don't have to do a world cup in a different continent every time. And you sure as fuck don't need 2000 dollar tickets with hundreds of dollars for handicap parking, fuck off.

I've never been to any of the bad citys but I've see the crime rate stats for places like Saint louis and Memphis and would only ever go to those places if I knew the areas of those citys where I won't be murdered for my wallet o algo

>Like the "epicentre of WC 26" in NY/NJ have been cancelled
I am answering for this one because I heard of it
The state cancelled this because it was being bankrolled by New Jersey but New York was going to reap the benefits. They are insecure after what happened with the Super Bowl hey hosted. The money is instead going to be used for similar World Cup events within the state itself

Nope, besides rent they can generate other matchday revenue, e.g. parking. FIFA do demand luxury boxes so they only collect a modest fee from those compared to what the owners could have made. Azteca refused and I think FIFA caved in the end.

Generally speaking you can just look up a map that shows where black people live and can easily avoid violence. Speaking for STL(where I live) the only exception is even the white part of downtown you have an obnoxiously high chance of being run over because fucking nobody obeys basic traffic laws.

Oh and also just avoid public transit. Maybe it's better in NY(doubt it) but every city I've been too that has a decent train system also has copious amounts of homeless people doing drugs on the train. They are also always black.

Why would Fifa charge for the parking spaces? Shouldn't that fall on the city or stadium owners

I don't think you pay for a wheelchair, it's provided to you

So they can receive money. Perhaps they will charge admission to the car parks, then the car parks will charge you to actually park, and then everybody gets money.

Despite all those big Fortune 500 sponsors in the US they aren't going for the slots that still remain open with WC 26 right around the corner. Host cities have been moaning about the costs of fanfests and their struggles to find sponsors. This has made them reconsider and reduce or cancel their fanfest plans, scaring of more potential sponsors. The Bay Area, dominated by tech giants and Fortune 500 leaders, was one of the first to scale back. - thought for 13 seconds
