Tranahhan had Mac McCorkle Jones looking like he wasn't the worst QB in the League. 9ers unironically shouldn't have paid Purdy because anyone can function in the Shannahan system. They should've used that money to build a perpetual superteam

>he did take the team to a championship and a Superbowl
So did Jimmy G. My point is that Shannahan is an offensive genius who can take any QB and "dude CMC lmao" them into a deep playoff run. And since Purdy wasn't going to get anything other than top dollar, I'd have unironically gone with someone like Darnold and built a team around him
>>
>>
>>154259277
It's easy to say this in hindsight, but when you have a contending team with someone set at qb it's a safer play to overpay than try your luck with someone untested, look at what happened with the vikings

glenn is a good coach. it showed in their special teams unit being one of if not the best in the league last year and the defense still played above expected situationally. rough start because of poor clock management and relying too much on engstrand? absolutely, but the foundation is there.

He's not cerebral and his athleticism dwindled.
Pete was tard wrangling him and knew when to cut the chord.
>t. us12
>>
>>154261052
He was an ironman at QB until 2021 but injuries and loss of mobility fucked him so the falloff happened fast. I still think he was definitely top 5ish at his best despite some cazzies saying he was carried. I remember 2015 especially he was annihilating some great teams despite having mediocre weapons. They run into a buzzsaw against the Panthers but that could've been another Superbowl squad for sure if they didn't get into such a hole early

Gather 'round, autistic fags
For a story of riches turned to rags
Our hero Drake was getting carried
But in the Owl, his career was buried.
For in that game he soon found out
He was a fraud, and began to pout.
As his bussy tore like moist towelettes
He cried "That worked against the Jets!"
But the Jets weren't there, nor were the Phins.
And though he totaled 14 wins,
It's clear as day for all to see
That Drake Maye was a schedule babby.
The game was shit, an absolute slurper
And Maye played worse than Bustin Herbert
Yet when the 4th quarter came around,
Drake found himself just 2 scores down.
His time had come to prove us wrong
And Drake was finally going long.
He took the snap, he threw it high,
It got picked off, and then Drake cried.
He weeped and sobbed and cried all night
While Seahawks reveled in delight
His salty tears pooled 'round his feet
While Darnold paraded down the street.
His shameful tantrum carried on
All through the night and unto dawn
In truth, what bothered Drake the most
Was the fact that he was seeing ghosts.

He leads the league in 10+ yard completions downfield, has consistently had high air yards every year, and, for better or for worse, is more than willing to force the ball in tight windows regardless of how many ints or risky throws he's thrown that game.

>In 2000, the Jets' new head coach Bill Belichick stepped down after a single day. He was then hired by the Jets' biggest rivals, the New England Patriots.
>In 2001, Patriots starting QB Drew Bledsoe was injured in a game against the Jets. This made way for his backup, Tom Brady, to take over.
>Bill Belichick and Tom Brady led the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins over the next 18 years, after which Brady left the team (and won another Super Bowl in Tampa).
>Belichick remained as the Patriots head coach until the end of the 2023 season. His final game in charge was a loss against the Jets.
>This loss meant that the Patriots got the third overall draft pick in the 2024 draft, with which they drafted a new starting QB, Drake Maye.
>In 2025, Drake Maye took the Patriots to the Super Bowl, where he lost against former Jets QB Sam Darnold, who the Jets had moved on from in favour of a player who ended up being one of the worst QBs in recent history.
why are the jets so unlucky?

The Vikings gave him a decent offer. The Seahawks gave him more and he wouldn’t have to compete for the job. All 32 teams could have gave him a Dak level deal if they wanted to. It just took a #1 D and ST to overcome his league leading TOs and an extremely weak playoff field minus the Rams to win an Owl.

Also I think they're taking Monroe Freeling at no.6 btw. Todd Monken has strong ties to Georgia and Dawand Jones has shown he can't stay healthy. I'm going to put some $ down on it before the draft opens just haven't yet in case there's a last minute trade that shakes things up
>>
>>
>>154275557
tate is far and away my first choice, funny that i'm alignned with the osu homers on this one even though i hate that fanbase with a fiery passion. if it's tackle, hopefully mauigoa (though he'll probably be gone) or freeling. if you can't find a trade partner and are still looking towards the defense for some reason, i'll accept downs. otherwise, trade the fuck down. fano will get raped at tackle with his baby arms, proctor is the last of the quintessential saban tackles: a retarded giganigga that can get by on sheer size and athleticism in the sec but is destined to fail in the sec. lemon is slow, tyson is glass. nobody else realistically on the board improves the team as much as a 6th overall pick should. i don't even want to hear about a front seven player until day 3, that group is SET. yes, bain should be a noticeable upgrade over alex wright, but using the 6th pick to turn a top 5 unit into a top 2 unit while you have several bottom 5 units on the team is a very irresponsible use of draft capital
>>
>>154275708
I haven't made any bets so far. I'll wait until the day before the draft just in case there's a last minute trade up/down that changes my mind. It's rare for one to happen so late but i don't want to get fucked if it does. Right now I'm probably only betting $100 im thinking $50 on Monroe Freeling @ pick 6 and $50 Jordan Tyson to go inside the top 10
>>
>>154275809
I'm not buying Carnell Tate ngl i know OSU WRs have an impressive track record but i don't see special with him. Jeremiah Smith looks like an elite WR worth a top 10 pick but I never saw that from Tate personally. Okay so you want Tate at 6 preferably but what about picks 24 and 39 if they go that direction?
>>
>>154275822
Youre right, probably smart to wait and see. Jordan Tyson going in the top 10 is a stretch imo, dude tore literally everything off his knee and struggled a bit with hamstring issues.
Where do you see him going?

I honestly think he's in play for pick 7, 8 and 9. He's got injury history but watching him play the talent is obvious. He tracks the ball so well and consistently gets open. I think I heard some analytics nerds say he struggles to get off the line against press coverage but there's so many ways to scheme guys open with splits these days. I think he's an absolute clear No.1 WR tier player

i don’t even need special desu, i just want consistent and reliable. if you add a reliable x and bump down the current receivers down one spot on the depth chart, it finally starts looking like an acceptable wr room, especially if you’re optimistic about isaiah bond coming into his own with a full legal-trouble free offseason under his belt
at 24 there should still be a good tackle prospect available. ideally blake miller, but if he’s gone, a developmental guy like lomu or iheanachor will do too, he can get ready behind dawand jones for a month until he inevitably gets hurt in week 5. 2nd round could be time for secondary (cisse, chris johnson, aj haulcy, maybe even avieon terrell if teams are scared of his 40 time), 3rd round - find an inline tight end to complement fannin
obviously there’s ample room for other strategies. i.e. if freeling is the guy at 6, i’d be happy with tyson at 24 (if he falls due to injury) or sarratt/brazzell at 39. there are many ways to ace this draft, but there are also many ways to fuck it up, and i don’t particularly like the current rumors swirling about the browns really liking fano and proctor (two of my least favorite fits) or marcus’ frivolous bain suggestion. hopefully it’s just smokescreens

An X factor in this is that my Bengies are historically dogshit in drafting. This is guaranteed productivity. Basically trading a shitty dice roll for a better one.
If he actually works out, it will revamp the defense. Hendrickson had his moments, but can ONLY play pass rush. He's an absolute liability in the run game, and the pole-riding he gets from the media and reddit is absurd.
>>
>>
>Giants didn't fire Joe Schoen just so he could trade Dexter Lawrence out of spite just like he told Saquon Barkley and Julian Love to get lost for not agreeing to his terms

I can live with this, hopefully get Styles and Downs/Delane now. Paying Dex huge money off a 0.5 sack season when he didn’t want to be in NY would have been a big risk.

>>
>>154276680
joe bussy has everything he needs on offense. the oline excuse hasn't been relevant for years, it was good enough to keep old man flacco upright last year. this is a good trade if you think he’s actually elite and it’s mainly the defense that holds him back
>>154276686
he will help those young linebackers tremendously by buying them time and getting the oline’s attention on him, probably stewart and murphy too to an extent. imo using that capital to get an established elite veteran presence for that young defense is also better than adding another unproven young guy
>>
>>
he's going to hold out for the big money which mike brown won't pay, miss training camp and then get hurt by October, or just straight up do nothing.
calling it now, we can never have anything good and will always shoot ourselves in the foot.

It's funny how Herbie's playoff games are each a different kind of horrific loss
>Jags
After going up 27-0, the Chargers offense completely stalls out and can only muster 3 more points
>Texans
Taking a page out of Trevor's book, Herbert throws 4 picks in a playoff game after throwing just 3 all year. Unfortunately, he is not half the player Tlaw is
>Patriots
After another electric season, they put up 3 points against a Patriots defense which is good, but nowhere near as good as the other defenses that Herbert put up more than 3 against that year (Eagles, Texans, etc.)
It's so very clear that Bustin is NOT that guy in January

My Bengals just earn their picks, and for the most part, we use them fairly well to build competitive teams in recent years. What we never, and I mean ever, do is trade draft picks for players. Considering the monumental need we have for a DT and that our targets would likely be gone at 10, I love the hell out of the trade but I'm shocked we did it. The most un-Bengal move ever.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>154279393
They had to get better on the D line. Trading for Lawrence+signing Jonathan Allen and Boye Mafe is gonna cost them a ton of cap space but should make a huge difference. They don't have a ton of needs on offence. It's a gamble but considering how much the Colts gave up for Saucey Gardens I'd much rather be in the Bengals position going forward
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>154279563
It's certainly not a lose-lose. The Giants aren't winning big this year and they got a top 10 pick for their valuable asset who wanted out. And Lawrence is immediately the best defensive player on the Bengals by a country mile, and among the best players on their entire team. I mean injury is certainly possible, but even then the Giants win because they did about as well as could be expected there.
>>
>>
>>
>>154279597
Have seen a lot of folks praising the move from both angles. Weak draft and Bengals D targets will be gone at 10, plus Lawrence wanted out and even tho Giants tried to work with him, they realized it wasn't happening and took the best offer avail. Not like Cincy needs any help on offense, and Lawrence is a fuckhuge upgrade on their line.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>154279662
>>154279563

Unironically the Bengals, but they're also the most likely AFCN team to not even make the playoffs. They are bad when it's hot but nearly unbeatable in the cold. Doesn't really make sense, but if they get into the playoffs they have as good of a chance as anyone. They just gotta find a way to not start the year 1-5 or whatever.

some thoughts on Lawrence to Cincy...
<buckle up>
Dexter Lawrence is a 28-year old stud
he spent most of his career playing vs elite interior OLs of the Eagles & Cowboys
he's been double-teamed at the highest rate in the NFL
he's now playing in the AFC North
Ravens lost their C
Steelers might start a 42-yr old QB
Browns have Deshaun or Shedeur
Lawrence should FEAST
the Giants were TERRIBLE when he wasn't on the field
last year, even in a "down" year for Lawrence:
Giants defense with...
Dexter Lawrence OFF the field:
#32 YPA (8.4)
#31 sack rate (4.1%)
#27 EPA/pass (+0.13)
#26 pass success (47%)
#23 pressure rate (32%)
Dexter Lawrence ON the field:
#7 pass success (40%)
#8 YPA (6.6)
#9 sack rate (7.7%)
#10 EPA/pass (+0.09)
#22 pressure rate (33%)
that was a "down" year for Dexter
the team was top-10 vs the pass when he was out there
bottom-10 when he wasn't
want a larger sample?
last 3 years:
Dexter Lawrence OFF the field:
#32 YPA (7.7)
#31 pressure rate (29%)
#31 pass success (48%)
#30 EPA/pass (+0.14)
#30 sack rate (5.5%)
Dexter Lawrence ON the field:
#8 pass success (42%)
#8 sack rate (7.4%)
#10 EPA/pass (+0.02)
#13 YPA (7.0)
#15 pressure rate (36%)
and again, the context is VITAL:
he was obviously the #1 best player on the Giants defense
every team knew it
they double teamed him at the #1 highest rate and he STILL made this big of a difference
and that was despite playing some of the NFL's top offensive lines in the NFC East as it relates tot he Eagles and Cowboys for YEARS

I admittedly do not watch a ton of Colts games, but isn't his specific skill high pointing 50/50 balls and getting behind the defense? Don't think I've ever seen him work the middle of the field. Not do dump on you guys, but the QB play has been subpar so that could explain a bit of it as well I spose.

They get zero credit for drafting Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. Both guys were impossible to miss prospects taken with top 5 picks. Higgins they deserve credit that was a nice hit. The most successful teams in the league are the ones who hit on starters round 3-5 which the Bengals have failed to do. I don't know what changed but they used to absolutely cook 2010-2015 I would find myself constantly getting pissed because they'd take players i wanted for the Ravens. Somethings definitely changed with their draft strategy since then
