This torrent is dedicated to two groups:
- Chucklefish and especially Tiyuri for producing this piece of shit. Glad that it came to light that you weren't paying your employees and your career went down the drain, so you're not able to scam any more people out of their money. You always wanted to make the game open-source, so let me help you get a headstart on that.
- The original /sbg/ from way back. It's been 10 years, but we finally won in the end.
Please read my blog post and youtube video for more information about this code:

I agree Tiy is a completely dipshit but his career is just fine. He still gets games to publish under chucklefish for whatever fucking reason. Even others like Molly have moved on to work at fucking Valve of all things. It's over.
Did 10 years really pass since the last sbg though Jesus fuck

Starbound was fine you budget batman, you arent doing any good for anyone, those people you mentioned that werent payed could have done something and still can if they wanted, you are being selfish for your own sake. I'm disappointed in you, I expect better from the average person here.

Fag who supported the game early here, no it is not fine, and only got worse as the hack retard hipster developers of the game kept making shit decisions that made the game feel worse to play. To this day the only way to make it playable is mods, and if thats the case you're only fucking making the game cover up the stench of its poor core design. I hope a dedicated team of people rip this game down to its foundation and build it back up.

Hello from 2013, anon.
It's unfortunate that chucklefuck left us this shitheap, but I appreciate the effort you put into giving us this leak. Maybe somebody will finally make it worth playing.
See you space cowboy.

My most vivid memory of /sbg/ was browsing the general like normal and then the very next thread was just "shit game edition" with none of the OP material and the gif of the guy diving into the septic tank. I really don't know why I remember that 10 years later.

Will modders make an improved version? Maybe add that water pressure system that I remember was planned at some point.
Once again I'm reminded of that guy that accidentally got a disc with the StarCraft 2 (or was it 1?) source code and instead of releasing it for the betterment of mankind he just gave it back to Blizzard.
And all Blizzard gave in return for this incredible act of kindness that probably saved them millions just from having to rewrite a lot of the network code to deal with cheats, not to mention people not buying the game either due to playing it for free or because they are playing a copy-cat version... all Blizzard did was give him life-time access to BlizzCon.

I've managed to compile it flawlessly on Linux using the default cmake config, but I can't run it without crashing due to it being unable to parse a file (interface.config) for some reaosn. Not a single clue how files are organized so I probably need to get a release copy for reference
>>1237930
It's definitely real.
>>
>>
>>1237932
Alright, I figured it out. You need to copy the files in scripts/linux to the directory of the executable, and the assets directory needs to be above the directory of the executable (../assets)
>>1237934
If on Linux, just enter the source directory, run "cmake .", then make. For me it just works because all the libraries and header files required I already have installed.

Got it to build under vs2022, so what I did was this, I installed x64 CMake. Then I edited scripts\gitlab-ci\windows64\build.bat
..\source -> ..\..\..\..\source
Visual Studio 14 Win64 -> Visual Studio 17
v140 -> v143
Removed all the QT stuff
Turned all the ON to OFF
then just removed the rest of the lines cause I didn't want them, but you can keep them, it just goes from creating the cmake stuff to actually building it.
After I altered build.bat, I ran it, then navigated to the newly created build folder, and opened starbound.sln then just built the game.

ConcernedApe was able to win publishing rights for his own game after realizing that Tiy just sits around collecting royalties for games that neither him or his 'team' had any involvement in. They managed to kill a puppy in their own offices. These guys are irresponsible and lazy to the point that I wouldn't be surprised that a contracted janitor stole a forgotten USB that just happens to have the source code on it.
>>
>>
>>
Going to ask this here; >>1237976
using the methods above, I was able to get the project files built out, however it states it can't find the DLLs even when placing them next to the .bat file, the project files, etc.
Any ideas?

Thing is, I actually enjoyed the game at first somewhat. It was a little barebones and weird but I enjoyed what was there of it, and I really loved the races and the flavor the setting had. Thing that killed it for me was whatever update brought out the huge generic story that got slapped on it. Played as a Floran and felt stupid trying to avenge Earth or whatever when all my race gave a shit about was stabbing things and eating them and then stealing whatever they owned. Though more likely than that it just sucked to have such a linear and slow, boring storyline forced upon what used to be a pretty chill open-ended game.
Whole game's lifespan was just lots and lots of hype leading up to mediocrity and carelessness. Had a Starbound wallpaper and everything back in 2013. Here's to it having a better life as an open-source game.

Releasing source code for an old game with no active development that is probably at its effective market cap already isn't just "doing good", it should be a moral obligation.

All progress on SB stopped for over 6 months with Tiy at the helm, with the exception of making art assets and idea people floating ideas. Here's some patches that worked for me with my local install of QT WinRT 5.7.1 and VS buildtools 2022.
Others should update the QT_PREFIX_PATH in scripts/gitlab-ci/windows64/build.bat to reflect their own QT dev tools folder.
Maybe even don't use patch 2 if you don't want WinRT QT.

so u be sayin
that every single time the Starbound client sends a network packet, it goes down this list one by one to check what type of packet it is before sending it?
>>

not necesarially as it could be compiled into a jump table. so depends on compiler and optimization level basically.

after looking at where this function is used, I can safely say that this is mostly just ugly; It is used to get a packet class from a u8 packet type for deserialization, I'd more complain about the allocations it does rather than the if chain.

Hey, bros. I don't know much about computers or coding, but i am willing to learn. Is there any guide on how to compile this game? Anything helps. Thanks!
>>
>>
>>
>>1274784
It is possible to compile SB on Windows. Steps:
1. Download and install Visual Studio.
2. Download and install CMake.
3. Change the Visual Studio version in scripts/windows/setup64.bat to "Visual Studio 17 2022".
4. Double-click setup64.bat.
5. Double-click build/ALL_BUILD.vcxproj when the batch file is done doing it things.
6. Hit "Build" in Visual Studio.
>>
>>1274928
Oh, you may also need to download and install libpng and ZLib so that SB can link against them, though the generated VS project file *should* use the ones in the lib/ directory. These libraries both have Windows installers available.

I found that project trying to make the game playable on windows, but seems like it doesn't even run on windows 7 like the original game. Tried compiling it but no luck, probably because they updooted the cmake versions and added a bunch of modern stuff on it.
I don't understand why the linux version of the game runs so smootly, is it emulated on the fly on windows or something?

Alright.
I guess when I'm bored I'll see what my progress was left at, then give it a few hours and then look into FU.
One thing I was getting tired of was the boring random quests and having to remember weird items and shit. Having an expended inventory would really make them more tolerable.
>>
>>1310236
FU's best feature is it's progression.
In vanilla you mine, make armor and epp to survive in the next tier environment, then craft the next tier armor.
In FU you:
Research the metal to unlock the crafting recipes for the armor
Gathering the material, made way better by things like the mining laser and ore probe
Choosing what type of armor you want this tier (ranged, melee, wapon type, resistances etc)
The downside is that there is a lot more items that you need to keep in your inventory, hence the inventory mod

Honestly I had expected SB's source code to be left in the open void for eternity. The fact there's ongoing project(s) for it is actually kinda interesting. I hope you found success in the past few months, anon

Launching the game would connect to steam and starbound server btw. Isn't this an issue?

Nice to see some good news for this game for the first time in over a decade.

Nah it wasn't fine, they lied to their own staff and customers, and turned the game into a buggy shitpile.
Not only did they fuck up the story when they did the rewrite, they removed a TON of good interactive/decorative assets, and introduced bugs that never got fixed, like all the damn memory leaks in every single crafting bench, and the item printer

Probably not, for multiple reasons. Setting up a competent dev team that -could- rebuild starbound and deliver what was promised would probably take years, including getting them familiar with all of the game files they'd be changing. Then there's the dev time they'd need to actually do the rebuild. You're probably looking at another decade before it's finished and ready to go, that's a lot of time for a game that hasn't even been relevant in a decade.

A lot of the content they removed was stuff they made when they were still planning on adding dozens of factions and races and shit that they ended up scrapping for the story rewrite(probably when they realized they weren't capable of making the scope of game they wanted to make originally)
They had full decorative/interactive item sets for a bunch of different styles and themes.

kek they never even removed all the "removed content" from that 3d printer thing you could put credits in to print objects. you can still print some of the decorative shit. Shame that was part of the reason the printer had so many fucking memory leaks.

it was better before they rewrote the story and removed more than half of the game's content. It was still tolerable(with mods) when I last played it in 2020, but it never ended up being the space terraria it was promised to be.
