Man, I really wanted to like Millennium. First season was eh, second season was amazing with one of the best finales I've seen, third season chickened out and failed to capitalize on anything that was set up. And by the time they decided to wrap up some of the loose ends in the X-Files (which causes its own clusterfuck of continuity), it was at a point where no one was watching that show either.

It's got a great sense of humor, Darren McGavin is the perfect pick to play this bumbling role, it's got the dark sewers and old house vibes, and the overlaid narration is a nice touch. Chris Carter has stated this show was a big inspiration for the X-Files, you can definitely see it. Absolute must watch for any X-Files fans, almost like an origin story.

I know it's a longshot given this was a year ago, but any chance you or anyone has an NTSC (NA) release version of this? It's hard to find Millenium and this is a PAL release that has everything sped up by ~4%.

I've never seen X-Files, but I recently watched Kolchak: The Night Stalker and, as dated as it is, I absolutely loved the vibe and the characters. Lots of people say Columbo and X-Files are the closest to it, so I've been thinking of checking them out. Is it worth diving in, though? there are so many seasons

If you have any interest in conspiracy stuff and liked Kolchak, X-Files will become your favorite show of all time. There are different perspectives: some fans like the missing sister abductee story arc, other prefer the disconnected Monster of the Week episodes, but you should definitely watch the first season in order to understand the dynamics between Mulder and Scully and see the character development. After that, many lose interest in the story arc, and seek out the best viewing order lists on the internet, including the movies. Most of us agree that the show becomes less interesting after Duchovny leaves the show, and most of us all agree seasons 10 & 11 are best left unwatched, they kind of ruin your good memories. Seems that they've actually re-rendered some of the Video Toaster effects shots for the BD-release from original files, or some of the early ones were for some reason rendered in better than NTSC resolution originally and printed to film (I seem to remember they had problem with some NTSC color fuckery making the underwater shots unusable until they got some fancy component video disc recorder for output). Effects shots for later episodes are clearly upscaled, though.
