Write melodies informed by the harmony. Use chord tones on strong beats. Use modes informed by the chord progression. Use passing tones to incorporate notes from outside the scale.
That is if you have harmony to begin with. If not just write a melody that sounds pretty by itself and then harmonise it.
If your melodies are boring then use rhythmic techniques to introduce tension. Different attack or sustain on notes, grace notes, tuplets, etc.

If anyone uses SCRIBD for guitar books and wants to rip their stuff, use this:
https://scribd.vdownloaders.com/
Just copy/pasta the full URL of the ebook you're viewing and it will pull the entire thing for you. It doesn't compress it either and the quality is as good as the upload.
It works well. It's a bit of a multi-stage process with some waiting but it works well and if you're using firefox with uBlock or equivalent you don't get any ads.

There is this awesome always free/open source course by Chelsea Cook on Sight Reading For Guitar. It has been updated a few times since original release. Kind of an on-going project but very complete and usable now.
It's got the ebook, video and audio for free and is actually pretty good. I've been using it and I like it. Not super exciting but very effective.

Learn a serious instrument like guitar, piano or sax. Doing casual/niche instruments like recorder or ukulele will probably just set you back when you find yourself wanting to branch out.
You should learn to read chord charts right away (it's easy just use ultimate guitar) and theory as you go. Have fun first and let the rest follow.

This is the Scotty West - Absolutely Understanding Guitar Theory series. It's 32.5 hours long. It's incredibly in-depth and worth all the time you spend, just make it past the first 1.5 videos (1.5 hrs). You won't suck at guitar if you actually make it through the entire course because it's awesome!

Annas-archive dot org for ebooks but problem is most, if not all, books on there won't include the audio CD's/mp3's to follow along with. Some may have codes for you to download but most won't as they strip that stuff out unfortunately. I've seen a lot of bass stuff with audio on rutracker.org but their listings are in RUS so you need to translate sometimes. Most of their listings have what language it's in though in the URL. ENG for English, RUS for Russian. Lots is exclusively RUS but most is in ENG.
I don't play bass though but I have scrolled through their 29+ pages of links and have seen stuff for bass on there. Just have to scroll through 29 pages dude...I don't know any other way to link to the stuff you need but it's on there.
This is the guitar books section but as mentioned, some bass stuff is sprinkled within.

I managed to get 46.1% of this completed today! Someone came on out of the blue in the last hour and a half and seeded it for a bit, therefore it's not totally dead yet! WOOT!
I'll keep this alive and seeding so if someone wants to download what I've got so far we can maybe tag team this to completion one day if someone else comes along and seeds the remaining files. Then I'm going to put it all on fileshare somewhere for backup. BUT AT LEAST SOME PROGRESS FINALLY!!!!

You would find these 3 fingerstyle volumes would greatly improve your fingerpicking since that's essentially what Classical Guitar is...
Classical pretty much is strict fingerstyle guitar using traditional music note reading skills (not tabs). They hold the instrument in a certain fashion using a foot stool lift. But that's about it. The rest comes down to the style of music itself...
You can go on Annas-archive dot org and look for "classical guitar methods" or "teach yourself classical guitar" and see what pops up. You will find plenty. There is always the Hal Leonard Classical Guitar Method on there too that I believe even has the embedded MP3 files for practice follow-along.
There is always RUTracker - Carcassi Classical Guitar Method:

>Classical pretty much is strict fingerstyle guitar
Yeah. I'm going back and forth between playing steel-string acoustic fingerstyle and doing the same on nylon classical guitar (I have both). Depending on the course I use, I don't feel much difference or need to adjust - the guitar sounds a little bit different, has a larger neck (in case of nylon classical) and is lighter but that's about it. I prefer to just learn songs and not focus so much on theory and exercises and noticed that most courses offer a lot of the latter and not enough arranged songs to learn.
Anyway, thanks for the links.

A guy you might like is Nicola Mandarino
https://www.guitarnick.com/
His site is kind of old school. But his Youtube videos and tabs are a lot of fun and excellent.
These are his two books by the way.
https://annas-archive.org/search?q=Mandorino,%20Nicola
He doesn't teach you really how to play, you just play songs pretty much that build on easier previous songs. This might be more your style.
>>
>>1388720
Thanks, that looks really good. He has a lots of songs. Might also check out his books.
Sadly, I get login message while browsing your vk links. And I used firefox with ublock. Strange.
Btw, I'm the anon that asked about Brandon Acker classical course earlier in this thread. Maybe someone will upload it someday, it'd be nice.

>VK and login
Oh, that sucks. I really don't know why I don't get that login message and others do when I share the links. It's really a goldmine. I am not a VK member. I even checked my uBlock filters to see if I manually blocked the login somehow and I can't see anything there. So unfortunately I am at a loss to figure that out. There are so many groups to share, the last one I gave you was purely a classical fingerstyle club with a ton of members.
>Brandon Acker Course
I had a bit of a look through Yandex.com (RU search engine) and didn't come up with much unfortunately. I did come across one of his masterclass lessons that was 2 hrs long though which you might like on YouTube. It's via Zoom class which he seems to like to teach. I don't personally like that kind of teaching style, too many distractions from the students doing random jerky stuff in the background take away from the overall experience in my opinion. But perhaps his other courses don't have that aspect.

If I come across more of his courses I'll reply to these posts. I think these courses you'd have to subscribe to as they don't seem to be that available otherwise. If they're not on Audioz.download or Rutracker.org or VK then they aren't going to be easily available.
Anyhow, good luck in your search and it was good talking with you. Maybe consider starting a classical guitar thread over on /mu or /wsr? Don't bother with /r since it's all porn.

thanks for the link. Yeah, I find Brandon Acker interesting because from what I know, he started as a metal electric guitar player and then transitioned into full-blown classical guitar guy. Which might be pretty rare, given he did it without formal training (I assume that one, maybe he did go to some school at some point which would make his journey less inspiring for me lol).
Believe it or not, but so far the most useful learning material for me is Esteban guitar course, fully available on youtube (it can be downloaded on rutracker too):

There are 10 parts of this. No bullshit approach, you learn by playing songs. I'd prefer if he went more in-depth with explanation of arrangement he does on particular songs, but either way it's pretty solid. Probably totally unacceptable for purists (his guitar has a cut! and it's plugged! and some songs are played with a pick! etc) but for normal guitar players who want to play some fingerstyle songs, it's really good.
Anyway, what's your guitar journey? Do you play electric, folk acoustic, classical?

the best way to write melodies is to sing them, you know more than you think you know and over analysis is often counter productive, you can either begin with a harmonic and rhythmic framework (sing to a chord sequence) or figure out the harmony after the melody. You should tap your foot and feel the pulse, if you want to write more unconventional melodies try working with non diatonic chord sequences

Sorry, I only have Book 1 (the real printed book as well as digital). I didn't even know there was a book 2, damn! I looked online and there's nothing available unless someone buys it, scans it and shares it. I think we'll be waiting for a long long time...

BEST is a subjective term. Everyone has their own preferences. But one of the most popular is Hal Leonard Guitar Method - Classical Guitar by Paul Henry. I was just informed there is a second book now. So there are Books 1 and 2. Book 1 has a black cover, Book 2 has a reddish brown color. Book 1 has 25 pieces and is step by step. NOTE, there is a TAB version of this book and a standard music notation version. Content is the same but your reading style is easier with TAB but a lot harder (but better) if you can read musical notation. It will help you in your guitar journey to learn both.

Have no idea if it's any good but Melbay stuff is usually quite good.
