Bring a Leman Russ and Carnifex from 3rd to 7th rules and even with all the bonus Monsters had in 7th the situation is not as that horrible.

The issue with 7th was trying to fix the mess that was introduces in the previews two edition along with the absolute power creep that brought each new army rule.
When one army was getting a single big template at 2k, while the other was effectively playing with 4k army due to all the free shit the core rulebook was never going to fix that.

I haven’t read the short stories, but I’ve read the actual books, and they’re all pretty well written. If you want some minor spoilers, I can list off the basic idea behind every book, so you know what you’re getting into.
Fifteen Hours mostly focuses on how fucked up the Imperium is and how hopeless it is to be in the Imperial Guard, and so most of the book doesn’t have much in the way of actual combat (though the few times there is combat its very good). depressing and very grimdark overall
Rebel Winter isn’t as grimdark and it’s “believable” in the sense that much of the conflict in the book is from simple logistical incompetence and violence that could theoretically happen in say the Russo-Ukraine war. It’s definitely way more combat focused than Fifteen Hours and it gives you a taste of all the different ork units that you might fight on the tabletop. The plot also gives you a sense of urgency and fear for the characters while Fifteen Hours just makes you feel defeated
Deathworld is about space MACV SOG fighting and surviving in a jungle, I’d say its the weakest one of the three, but I’m biased because after the first two books I thought the book was going to be about space MACV SOG fighting ork kommandos, but its definitely not that. The book is still pretty good overall though, and it has a lot of tension because much of the cast is made up of ticking time bombs on a planet that’s a ticking time bomb, so there was a lot of guessing on what was going to happen in the next page.

It was at the height of dei era with stronk wymyn protagonists pushed everywhere. There was that big war about Rey from SW:TFA and mary sues. And Yvraine was a shitty mary sue also caught in crossfire. Not only that, she stole spot from Iyanna and looked like Malys on top of this. So it felt like they didn't care for Eldar and fucked over both Eldar and Deldar and pushed out random shit.
Then made all Eldar of every kind job just to be saved by her and simp in turn.
Story went nowhere and was dumb.
Those three annoyed Eldar and Deldar players. NonEldar players still didn't give a fuck. No troops or upgrade sprue either to even make Deldar and Craftworld soup look cohesive.

Honestly it was a dumb idea to invent completely new Eldar faction, when they still had Corsairs and Exodites to make
