I am currently making my own system and was wondering if my idea for Dark Elves for the default setting was any good. I'm proud of them, but please give your honest opinion of them.

"Once, there was the Age of Discovery. Humans arrived from the west to flee their falling empire. They discovered the land of Oconica, and among the various races was the elven civilization of Ami Serin. Humanity proceeded to destroy Ami Serin and slay all of its inhabitants, in order to make room for their growing Redia Empire.

But the elves returned. Their will for vengeance was bound to Oconica's very soil, and from it sprouted Dark Elves, purple ghostlike creatures that resembled elves, but had none of their redeeming qualities. The dark elves take their anger out on all living things, believing that if they cannot have happiness, then neither should anyone else."

I think that's cool, reminds me of my favourite part of Shadowmoor world-buidling.

I tire of ye olden destroyed elfen civilization and super cool humans beating down the elves because elves weak and bad.
But if that's what makes you happy.

Honestly, starting the post with
>I am currently making my own system
I thought this would be more mechanically oriented thread. You can use this world-building idea for whatever setting. It doesn't tell us anything about how it's to play said dark elves, except that you are edgelord.

It's neat OP. This short story already tells you what you can generally expect the Dark Elves to be like, their relations and approach to other races. The twist of being undead takes them away from being one more copy of standard DEs, and any person that ever played a game will see this as an indication on what to expect ruleswise (fear, aethereic, also standard shadow, dark magic and hatred)

Are they to be playable race?

Yes, they can be a playable race. I'll inevitably post the rulebook for my system.

I am, indeed, edgelord. As for mechaincs, my next thread will be of my system's rulebook, don't worry.

I stumbled for a moment on this. I would write it
>But the elves' will for vengeance was bound to Oconica's very soil, and from it sprouted Dark Elves
Because it seems like your intent is that they're explicitly not actually the same beings as the elves, but ghosts, or a curse or similar magical effect brought about by the elves deaths, so saying the elves returned is a little confusing. It's fine. Doesn't get my imagination running wild, but it definitely doesn't bore me either. If they're supposed to be ghosts of some type, I would probably put the word "spirit" or "ghostly" or something like that in there somewhere.

yeah those are some good antagonists.
very edgy.
but are they the living remnants of the Ami Serin, actual undead or something else entirely?
>player race
lol brace for the contrarian who makes the super happy brightly dressed clown elf.

I wrote a bunch of dark elf stuff for OSR (Adventurer Conqueror King) but they can be slotted into any fantasy world with ease.

or if you don't want to buy it (though it is pay what you want), the Sharethread has a copy of it in the ACKS repository.

They are the undead elves who lived in Ami Serin.

As a side note, you have given me a new character idea. I WILL BE THAT CONTARIAN.

I like it

Always nice to see an evil-focused game setting.

I think Dark Elves shine the most when they're almost urbanite or metropolitan, to contrast the good guy nature elves part.

Pretty neat
Might be hallucinating but I get some plant vibes from them. Something like ghosts roots.

Sounds cool. Do it

I'd think a bit about the humans tough. I mean, if I was fleeing a falling empire I'd expect to have to worry about surviving - these guys actually managed to genocide the knife ears? Seem like they either were doing pretty well or the elves were a footnote in evolution/history (which may be what you were going for, but).
