>one decides to DM in 2e
>All pick fighter again
>Decide to play wizard and show them how to properly play one
>They have session without me and loot my guy
>Come back demand my shit back
>Evil PC says "no" "ill just kill you"
>countered with "ill use hypnosis to make you kill yourself"
>DM's demigod intervenes and forces my stuff back and peace
>Shortly after evil PC is given by demi god a demon armor that gives 19str high -8 ac and immunity to mind controls
>he's level 3
>other pc get ogre gaunlets and stoneplatemail that absorbs all magic and is -4ac but heats up as it absorbs magic (slowly, he's never taken damage from it)
>he's level 4
>level 4 wizard gets bracers of defense ac4 (not complaining)
>Bosses and environments are constantly immune to magic, have to be creative to do anything.

>Decides he's "upgrading" to 5e so wife and her friends can join who used to dislike game.

23str fighter gets to switch class to barbarian and the corresponding hp and given free heavy armor proficiency to keep using heavy armor.
>See bladesinger, ask if i can switch wis 17 with dex 13 to make it work better

I had the same problem a few years back playing a wizard, DM and other players regarded anothing other than toe to toe combat as unmanly, with 'save or lose' spells being a cheat mode. It also didnt help with the DM not knowing what most of the spells did and having to halt the game to look up the range, effects, etc each time I cast something.

How about doing what I did, retiring your character (as it seems the other players and DM think it is incompatible with the "everyone fights!" ethos of the group and dislike the idea of a squishy character hanging back out of harms way) and instead playing a cleric? You can still fight in the front and hit things (earning the respect of the rest of the group), as well as do spell use, much of which is more supportive of the group - healing, protection, detection, undead control, etc? This would make you more of a team player and if done properly make them reliant on you, instead of the current "Im different, squishy and mostly useless in a front line fight, you must all protect me!" type character. It would also give you a load of protective spells that are particularly useful against evil characters if that guy continues to try to do your character in.

I wouldnt be surprised if they ended up becoming terminal bless junkies who'd be asking for bless often enough to create another magic item for it

Im thinking if I can't get the switch with my Dex and wis so i can be a front line bladesinger and it's the same stifling of me i might just fine a good role play reason to go full team wipe and force new characters.
Why not?

Things that definitely happened for 10 000 please, Alex.
