The strange rock formations are the towers of various feudal border princes fighting for control over ancient nodes.
The nodes are actually beanstalks and satellite communication uplink towers to commune with the orbital gods.

There are vanishingly few of the Firstborn; that is, baseline humans; still alive. Most sapient life consists of either the half-breed offspring of mankind (such as Cambions) or the creations of Man.
These Inheritors as they are known squabble among themselves constantly, fighting over the scraps of the legacy of the Firstborn.
Those few Firstborn who remain are typically changed in some way, immortal or undead or preserved in magic amber or some other nonsense. They are unilaterally recluses who have retreated from the global stage for very justifiable reasons.

The long-gone technomancers created vaults full of pre-programmed egg hatcheries. The eggs contain all thats needed to clone magical creatures that can have their parts harvested for potent magical materials.
An unfortunate side-effect is that beasts such as dragons, krakens, and rocs are created every century or so, and purging the land of them completely would need to be done by destroying these hidden vaults completely.

The gods in the sky and demons of the mechanical underworld of ages past both call for the hatching of the god-egg from the grove of psionic singularity.
Whether the egg will become the next Scion of Man or its enemy hinges on the prayers of the pious and the spilling of blood.

The tumultuous nomad clans of Phobos and Deimos raid the towers and beanstalks of the Martian nobility with primitive near-orbital rocket chariots.

What we would know as Mars, venerated ancient sorcerer kings during the First City. These entities were said to be terrible and vengeful rulers who terrorized the populace and reigned as tyrants, chasing away the savage desert nomads and driving back the golden hairs to their ships. With the old beliefs dying, knowledge of these terrible entities is being forgotten by all save the eldest of beings.

I'll try and connect a bunch of this around knightly orders.
> [ >>97641907 text ]
There's knightly orders (like Templar, Teutonic, Hospitaller - similar aesthetics).
> [ >>97641967 pic ]
Each order has a flying fortress as a mobile base of operations. A knight rarely goes far from his fortress.
> [ >>97642790 text ]
Dragons, krakens, and rocs are used as flying steeds by these knights.
> [ >>97643118 text ]
The knightly orders originated as crusaders against the ancient sorcerer kings of the First City (they won, somehow), but most orders are much younger than that. Of course the ancient sorcerer kings are gone, so they have little common purpose now.

Due to adamaged terraforming proccessthe God War, much of the planet is still cold and arid. Wide swaths of red desert and tundra cover the world broken up only by lava from the planet's now very active geothermal activity. These wastelands are where you'll find savage Tieflings, violent Orcs, decadent Carribons, hungry Skytails, and the servants of the infernal who squat in their hovels awaiting the rebirth of another Demon Lord.
The Infernal forces worship Demons taking the guise of Gods, tricking them through idols- using their shortened lifespan against them.

Most polities on the face of Mars are little more than either glorified city-states or loose confederations of such.
Robber barons command much of the surface of the world, exerting their control by establishing fortresses near natural choke points such as mountain passes or river crossings.
The lack of strong formal governments is felt by the people, leading to charismatic leaders often rising up on tides of public outrage in order to establish a new kingdom or republic or empire that exists for maybe a generation or two before falling apart due to infighting and corruption.
Those nations which have managed to persist in this ever-changing political landscape are, typically, quite unique in some capacity.

Due to their knowledge of the Hells; The Inheritors known variously as Cambions/Tieflings/Demonoids/Fiendkin/etc are actually the most staunchly opposed to the machinations of the Satans. There exist many knightly orders of Tieflings that were founded specifically to hunt down and battle the forces of the Hells wherever they crop up.

>Knight riding a bat in the misty wastes
The ancient terraforming centres before the cataclysm have taken on an Atlantean mythopoetic place in the various scattered folk songs and ballads of the feudal tower cities. Hope of when the soft rains will come for Mars keeping much of the populace alive though the mud and encroaching cold of the void.

The people of the former Red Planet understand well the difference between technology and magic.
They know that their ancestors, the original humanity, wielded immense technological power that they used to create marvelous items.
A Martian knows that a ray gun functions by some physical process, even if the notions of lasers and alternating current and all manner of chemistry eludes him.
The people of Mars know how much they have lost, even if they do not know the specifics.

The arable parts of the planet, where grass has been made to grow lush and green in spite of nature’s will, have largely been picked over.
The ruins have all been combed. The relics have all been catalogued. What is useful has been put into service and what was dangerous has been destroyed or buried or cast into the wastes to be lost.
But those dry parts, where the red soil sits unmarred by alien vegetation, hold untold secrets. None can live there, not permanently, but the lands of the red wastes are fraught with battles over salvage. Brigands and kings alike would give anything to control those lifeless dunes.

And, of course, magic is known to be something completely different.
