I really want to like Thousand Sons but it's hard to ignore the fact that worshipping Tzeentch seems really, really, really stupid
Especially for them. Tzeentch was basically responsible for everything bad that happened to them and seems to actively hinder their success because their continual struggle and strife feeds him more.

Anyone got examples of attempted possession of eldar? A buddy asked me how that works and the best I got is 'the eldar has enough willpower to suicide before the possession completes', which is rather lacking. Would they get transmuted into a half-daemonette looking thing?

honestly thats a tough one. honestly my favorite set of guns is the 30k mechanicum, only thing they were missing out on for my fancy was true assault cannons, which my marines make frequent use of because they feel fun to me.

Dark Eldars should have more Tyranid style guns for their body horror units.
Pic rel is a Haemonculus' wet dream.
>>
>>
>>97654941
Not a good idea, that's how you just get body horror creations that get taken over and controlled by tyranid organisms.
But at the same time it is fitting for the DE because they are already dumb enough to do that and there's some deldar out there who staple tyranid body parts onto themselves as a fashion statement.
Which has started to turn the cabal into a GSC cult.

Wellllllll…
>>

I really like the bit of red, it works well with the gold and silver.
not sure if it's just the image quality but the gold looks like it's been applied a bit thick, metalics are hard since you generally don't want to thin them out with water so my suggestion would be to be very sparing when you load up you brush since they'll cover fine but you won't have to quickly spread out a large clump before it dries.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97655034
true, not sure about other brands but i've always found GW metalics to dilute really badly with water which ruins it's coverage even with multiple coats.
I generally just use a medium if i really need to thin a metalic paint, but for the most part i generally just got straight from the pot but making sure to not load up my brush too much.

If you start removing mouldlines right after cutting bit out of the sprue, all you have to do is to run your knife around the bit in a straight line and you will get every mouldline on it for sure. Just rotate it 360 degrees while holding your knife on it an it's done
If you only attempt to remove them after assembly, they are now all over the place. And you WILL miss some, which WILL keep showing up during priming and painting

>>
>>97655107
NTA but do you use the sharp end? Maybe I have terrible dexterity but I tried removing mould lines with the blade once and ended up cutting too deep and almost ruining my model. I found the blunt side of the knife works better personally

if I had to bet on how chaos will treat their knights, they'll be folded into the normal chaos book unless they're slated to get a new product specific for them or sell that much to justify a separate codex
>>
>>97655290
I don't think anyone would really care too much if both Knights got merged into other books or shared just one, but I'm curious if they'll make some more Imperium-exclusive designs since they only got a token few Questoris weapons separating them from the traitors who have a fair few more on top of War Dogs.
>>
>>
>>97655260
i may have accidentally cheated in my last game. i only post my models here and nowhere else out of fear of someone recognizing them. ive only ever collected xenos armies and i refuse to paint anything that is in power armour. if a painting technique takes too many steps i dont bother, if a certain recipe for skin for example uses more than 3 paints i dont bother. if my opponent gives off sweaty vibes i refuse to play against them again. at least 50% or more of my minis are painted with contrast and i attempt to hide it (drybrush a brighter colour over it, etc). ive spend an absurd amount of money on paints and basing materials only to use less than 20% of it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97655298
there's an argument to keep imperial knights a separate codex because they have more kits and there are multiple imperial ranges they could be slotted into as allies: space marines, guard, sisters and admech
chaos knights meanwhile only go in chaos, and the 4 legion codexes aren't really full armies, they're more like supplements for the basic chaos codex that gw is pretending they have to be fully independent so they can scam their players into buying more of the new shit and use less of the shit they might have already had
>>
>>
>>
>>97655313
I guess you get that with custodes now?
Femmarines outside of joke/pinup army mascot models have always just been really lame to me, and the with how over the head the fluff beats you about only male aspirants are compatible with geneseed I think GW would have to be on suicide watch to release something that the vast majority of the fanbase would hate.

I know it's been a while, anon, but this was the edition of index eldar Wraithknights, and while that thing isn't necessarily the most broken 40k unit *ever* (though it's up there in easily the top 5), it was way more absurd than "pretty efficient datasheet that would be fine if it cost more points".

The base IG infantry do no damage (you need the elites for that) and arty has been gimped to hell and back. Heavy weapon squads are just bad units to take (just too weak to stand in the open). Cav is nice though.
I guess the game plan would be to flood objectives with your 20 man bricks, elites like kasrkin and krieg engineers dealing some dmg and rough riders helping with counter charging or going after your enemy's objectives.

Absolutely screamingly hilarious that WoTC pretends to give a shit about 'flavor' as soon as a faction that has been consistently under-performing the entire edition gets something strong. Because apparently being able to shoot some Noise Marines just ruins the game.
But Tyranids have been both weak and completely lacking in mechanical flavor the whole edition and there hasn't even been an attempt at fixing them.

If you want a mind set, LotR Orcs are a good base for personality, where you have the comedic bits but in the grand scheme of things are still terrifying when you actually have to face them, also the human farms.
A lot of their flavour comes from the different clans, which like to lean into different types of warfare and culture.

I would like to inform you that GW originally priced the Wardens of Ultramar at 90 points. And the Tyranid Prime at 85. So, somehow, GW came to the conclusion that the TWENTY WOUNDS unit and the Prime are about as good. I have no idea what's happened with GW setting the points, but it's clearly utterly broken down. I refuse to believe the same people were involved at all in the prime and wardens rules and points.

The 40k play testers struggle to play 4 games a week, and they only use the studio armies so don't expect them to bring competitive lists.
40k was so close to being an intuitive game but some retards had to leak their test codexes so GW pulled back from having the game tested by people that actually play it.

He could have 3 wounds and a 4+ save and it would be fine if HE WAS POINTED APPROPRIATELY. The points cost of the Wardens is absurd, and even 105 is completely stupid. The unit should be 180, or at least 150+. At 90, they had better points per wound than cultists, and only just fell behind gretchin.

They’re split into 6 (technically 7) different klans with different personalities and ways of doing things, but they also form tribes where tribe affiliation is more important than klan affiliation, so they’ll kill a fellow klansman to defend a fellow tribesman even if they aren’t the same klan. The klans are as follows:
>Goff: black with red accents
Default orks, love melee, love violence, and are very serious. Usually act as leaders for tribes because they beat their way to the top of any tribe they join.
Main units is anything on foot that likes melee combat pretty much.
>Bad Moonz: yellow with black accents.
Ludicrously wealthy because they act as merchants, and they use that wealth to buy the most expensive equipment available like big guns, mechs, and vehicles.
They love showing off their wealth by making lots of noise, so they prefer big guns and stompy mechs.
>Snakebites: no particular colors
Orks with a very tribal edge to them, and consider themselves to be very conservative. They like to use grots and squigs.
>Evil Sunz; Red with yellow or black accents.
Mad Max orks who love to build cars and go very fast with them, they also sometimes use mechs because anything beats walking.
Units are usually vehicles, duh.
>Blood Axes: green with brown accents
Love to LARP as humans by having military discipline and training, sneaking around, and using proper tactics in how they fight, and on the “peaceful” side will use military ranks, dress up as generals, and give each other made up badges.
Will also sometimes become mercenaries for humans, but this isn’t too common because most Blood Axes will kill them for buying into the LARP too much.
Most units are fair game, but they have a particular love for kommandos and stormboyz.

TS having specifically a lore setup that makes them take a bunch of tzaangor warherds from AoS is what sucks. The only benefit, the only one, is that the tzaangors are dirt cheap like how the death guard poxwalkers and vehicles or world eaters jackasses are cheap compared to equivalents elseqhere. Because otherwise why would anyone want to play codex: has 6 unique datasheets and a bunch of CSM stuff but is also missing key datasheets like Rubric Marines with Plasma Cannons or Berzerkers with Heavy Support weapons.
>>
>>97654792
The problem is that while I like Rubix cube marines, tzeentch warbands explicitly not using them at all is the best way to go because then you get rad shit like that fucked up mutant warband.
And TS being the 'official tzeentch legion' means that tzeentch warbands that are a bunch of fucked up spawn don't get to have a bunch of official fucked up mutant guys unless you kitbash and even then they lack datasheets, simply because TS lacks that.
And annoying GW could easily fix these roaster problems.

""competitively"" wargame is madness.
I mean you can do it, the same way you can use a lambo to carry construction materials, but a truck would be better suited for that task.
Then again I've seen people run competitive D&D as in seeing who can optimize their character to kill the most monster in a dungeon.
Fun idea for a few games or an event done a couple of times, but absolute madness to do try and do it for every fucking D&D session.

sorry, phoneposting at work and my attention is split.
>deathskulls: blue with white accents
superstitious and like to paint themselves blue for luck. very raccoon like mentality, they love looting from the dead and stealing from the alive. Extremely low attention span, and will do anything to get some good loot will often have a feeding frenzy immediately after battle. You may have noticed a lot of ork posters paint deathskulls, and that’s because they’re very versatile.
>why are they charging in with so little regard like goffs? because they’re eager to loot the bodies after!
>why do they use vehicles to go fast like evil sunz? because they love driving from place to place to loot stuff!
>why do they have so many big guns and mechs like bad moons? because they looted it from others!
>why are they sneaking around like blood axes? because it makes it easier to steal!
>Freebooterz: any color you like but typically yellow with purple accents
Sub kulture of pirates (technically privateers when the Imperium hires them as mercenaries), but are usually exiles for being too weird for most tribes to accept this means you can have almost any lore for them and it would make sense. The most typical kind of exile is bad moonz though because they’re too insufferable to be around. The most typical unit are foot sloggers and flash gitz are meant to be their representative.

After entertaining myself with this psykic power-scalling, I got to wonder something.
The Eldar are psykicly more sensitive and predominant race, yet I can't recall a single Elda that would have similar Psykic potential as those Mon'keigh in the (arbitrary) A+ tier, like Stern or the Burning Princess; the only exception (perhaps) would be Eldrad.

Eldar as a race are much, much more psychically attuned than humans are. Their peak is probably higher too, I remember reading fluff that stars and worlds lived and died at the whims of the eldar at the height of their power, but Slaanesh puts a gigantic damper on their power. No eldar would dare to all out at any point, because doing so invites Slaanesh's attention and that's a fate much worse than death. Even beyond that, eldar psychic power tends to be less flashy than what humans do. They can do the eldritch storm and fry a whole battlefield, but the true power of the most powerful eldar psykers are in how good they are at predicting the future. Farseers are much, much better at reading it than any human psyker, who gets premonitions, vague dreams and prophecies at best, while farseers can predict it down to specific positions of units during battles.

Eldrad's a piss weak psyker, he's only famous so Eldar have their token psyker character. Nothing Eldrad ever foresees actually comes to pass, and a single Deathwatch team was enough to stop his big Ynneas ritual.
Eldar are the 'psychic' faction as much as Blood Angels are the 'psychic' chapter.

They allow for a lot of flexibility with the hobby in terms of building and painting. You can have a lot of fun kitbashing and no one will get on your case about it. You're also not locked into a specific paint scheme like other factions. Right now the playstyle is a little one-note since we have one or two strong detachments and only a handful of reliable combos. It can be difficult to play a melee army that's dependent on a one-round buff like the waaaagh. We're the starter faction for 11th so you should be able to get a good deal on a starter set

Are you somehow implying GW doesn't want to sell an absolute fuckton of Huron and Yriel boxes? They hyped the shit out of those guys, and their rules are a resounding 'fine'. They're also superduper special epic heroes, and probably just as expensive per model (if not more so, especially Yriel since he's just an infantry dude).

I'm more opposed to the fundamental principle of him being "named faction superleader who is once again active in the setting." Granted he and Cawl aren't as bad as the primarchs, because they get substantial pushback from other elements inside their faction (eg; Imotekh).

Yeah, nidboy is underpowered as fuck, but only because gw IS incompetent and assumes surgemoves are all that matters for a melee unit.
The tau is busted by design, AND incompetence for just how many keywords, abilities AND low cost it is.

That's a lot of it, yeah. The other reason is because I had to buy wolf guard terminators to give a captain dual-wield storm bolters, and so I have a shitload of leftover bits. Ideally my chapter master would be standing on top of a dead night lords legionary instead, but I don't have the bits for that.

It's almost like power levels in 40k fluff are retarded and inconsistent, and changes wildly based on who needs to be the "cool guy" in the situation.
In another story, those harlequins would have effortlessly killed a bunch of custards to prove how whacky and strong they are. As a matter of fact, that DID happen in another story.

It's from a Codex, which are often notable for making off-handed comments with no substance to glaze a character.
What IS explicit is that a minor force of Deathwatch intervened at the biggest ritual Eldrad ever conducted, slaughtered his guards, and wounded him forcing him to flee.

I imagine context matters a lot here
Power scaling doesnt just mean one character beats another lower power character in literally every imaginable scenario
It just means theyre more powerful and have a significant baseline advantage
Tactics, strategy, circumstance all influence the outcomes of these encounters

Real answerShe's an SoB who came back to her convent to find that all 700 sisters had their bodies and souls stitched together into an orb by a Keeper of secrets so he could ponder them.
She killed herself and the orb poured all 700 souls into her to revive her, give her all the knowledge they had gained about Slaanesh, the warp and the Keeper of secrets, and make her stupidly powerful. She wrote all the information down and is trying to delivery the book to the Black Library.

>Eldar have warlords who have existed and fought for 10,000 years
>They're jobbers who constantly die and have to be revived
>Eldar have psykers who are said to be powerful beyond measure and have unparalleled foresight
>They constantly get everything wrong and are casually overpowered by normal Humans
>Eldar have terrifying armada of ships that outspeed every other faction
>These ships get obliterated by even the ramshackle Ork ships
Is it a running gag?
>>
>>97654550
Not only are Eldar generally more knowledgeable about Chaos and train from an early age to control heir psychic abilities. The members of their society who are most risk (Seers) use ghost helms and runes to avoid directly interacting with the warp as much as possible. Wraithbone also has some natural protective properties to it, so the craftworld is one of the places least likely to have a random daemonic incursion. Warp spiders (the critter, not the aspect) also keep malicious entities out of the infinity circuit. With that being said, chaos eldar are still a thing.

it's funnier when you remember the Imperial Fists had zero flavour until they backported the Black Templar aesthetic to 30k so that IFs were the original german space knights and BTs got all of that from them. And then 40k IF are still cultureless and their 'thing' is being yellow terminators.

It's dumb that this is only usuable by soritas, who should dislike elfdurr, but not by the harlequins. He is quite literally the only named harlequin character. And he's a lot more esthetic than the actual characters harlequins got.

Combat patrols are useful to sell a bundle box for a 500 point subgame to people who want an army but aren't sure about the main game. Which would be a great idea if it still cost like 100 bucks.
