People get hung up on uniqueness when this in itself is not a virtue. I could say "yeah, well MY Elves are 10-limbed mushroom people that reproduce asexually and aren't even sentient". These would be unique, but these would not be Elves.

Having interesting mechanics instead of just "you can move 5 feet further every turn" is nice, and I do wish games made race a more impactful and integral part of characters, especially in the case of iconic ones like Elves that should feel significantly different from playing a human.

It's not the most unique, but I always enjoyed how Endless Legend did it with their Wild Walkers.
Yes, these are elves.
A 4X game, and of course the elves favorite terrain is woods, which are great for production and building stuff. Instead of making the elves the dumb hippies that would never hurt a tree, the developers did the logical thing and made these elves the builder faction. With beautiful, comfy big cities, high marble towers and their own win condition is finishing a certain wonder.
Funnily enough, they are still the most vanilla faction in the game. But builder elves are neat.

Thanks for sharing thats pretty neat. Shoutout to Sui of 'Uncle from Another World'. I wouldn't usually rec anything isekai these days but I do think its worth reading. Very funny, a bit of bittersweet romance, I like the cast a lot, and there are some very solid fight scenes. The concept has him already returned which has been pretty funny and useful as breaks between the fantasy chapters.


I don't know if I missed it or perhaps she doesn't count but it missed Sora from the Visions of Escaflowne movie. Small part but quite memorable. Definitely prefer the movie over the series as well.

The Dark Eye has some neat elves. They are all automatically mages (not necessarily good at it) and also have the automatic advantage of being able to sing elfen songs. Those songs sound like they are singing with a second voice.
Other advantages and disadvantages they should have include: not needing to sleep, having an incredible sensible nose, and not being able to hold their liquor. At the same time, they can be immune to poisons and diseases, or have annoying little elemental creatures trying to fuck with them.

Ehh personally I headcanoned my drow to have very mutable skin. The radiation of the underdark is what caused their skin to turn black. If they move to the surface and stay for a long period of time then the sun bleaches their skin into a shade of grey. If they stay on the surface but primarily come out at night then the moon's radiation turns their skin to a blue to purple hue.

Complete immortality a la Tolkien is cool and sets Elves apart from all the other races, but you basically have to blatantly rip off Tolkien and/or have an equally robust worldbuilding system, which is extremely difficult. Some earlier D&D editions referenced their darker skin while the actual art made them lighter in skin color, thereby making them visually incongruent with the source text. To be fair, in Tolkein's world, the Elves view immortality as being a curse. Whether or not we agree with that perspective is one thing, but that is generally speaking how elves in the LOTR setting view being immortal. They call the mortality humans have The Gift of Men for a reason.

The SoB? Maybe, but if they wanted to stop the Eldar romance they would have stopped it completely, not just make it strictly non-physical.

Also stopping the coomer parts of the fanbase is absolutely impossible, there's fucking Thomas the Tank Engine rule34 for example, porn literally cannot be stopped. So if James did do it for that reason, he's fucking stupid.

Except Yrliet is literally there in that role, and if James wanted to stop that, he would have stopped it completely, he wouldn't have just said "platonic only" if the goal was to stop the coomers. Why? Well there's a Yrliet sex mod up on the nexus, for example. There's all sorts of fanart of Yrliet getting "non platonic" with the Rogue Trader on the various r34 boards and various boorus too.

Anon, you miss point of what I'm saying, it doesn't matter if it's non-canon. Yrliet being available as a romance option AT ALL is enough to get the coomers going with the fanart and the mods and whatnot. So, and I am assuming that James is smart enough to understand this, to be fair, I cannot buy that GW wanted to discourage an Eldar romance. I think nature of the Yrliet's relationship with the Rogue Trader is due to Owlcat first and foremost.
