>Thread Question:
The squarebase rules have been gaining traction in the tournament scene more & more. Do you find these rules acceptable? Do you think these rules will force GW to provide better support for legacy factions, inevitably undoing their stupid 'keep models locked to one game' policy?

SB rules are extremely barebones, which is fine, but it doesn't constitute the kind of changes that make a faction legitimate. Just look at skaven, they've already gone through two iterations in their renegades rules and they are still bottom tier, and simply don't work in TOW on a fundamental level.
>will it force GW to provide better support
HAHAHAHAHAH it will be a cold say in hell before GW ever bows to external pressure let alone allow any group to think they have influence on internal decisions. They will add legacy post second edition well into 2028. If that counts as being 'forced' then sure.
>>
>>97932985
no, gw doesn't care about community reception, only about sales, do the models sell? is their policy about separating the ranges giving the intended results?
chances are that good fan rules only serve to convince gw that it doesn't matter how much they fuck up, since the community will deal with it

>chances are that good fan rules only serve to convince gw that it doesn't matter how much they fuck up, since the community will deal with it
Idk, when tournaments ban/limit armies & detachments on account of them being busted in 40k on a widespread level, GW is pretty quick to respond with the nerfhammer.
If every Old World tournament started adopting sb rules to the point where GW events were the only ones who didn't, I have a feeling it would kind of force their hands to make accommodations the same way they were forced to let in legacy armies to begin with

I poured the water and addded the effects for the rushing water guys. It still needs some cleanup/some bits of sticky tack removed, but I gotta say this turned out way better than I expected.I do lowkey wanna blow my brains out because all the focus of the base is on the opposite side the Carnosaur is facing, so oal it looks kinda retarded presentation wise even if it's put together well. Vallejo still water & their white water effect texture. They have a tutorial explaining how to use it, I pretty much just followed that except I slapped the white water effect everywhere to get the rushing water effect.
Some people have said that it's not as good as resin and shrinks overtime, idk will keep an eye on it to see if it does. I'd use resin since I know there's no chance of that shrinking, but I tried using epoxy once and it was way too much trouble

Honestly, I suspect fewer races rape women than men, just more total women would get raped by those armies that do.

I don't know if it will have any effect on GW or not, I hope it does but that isn't why they are important for me. For me I support them because regardless of what GW does or doesn't do, it shows that we are not beholden to them. To echo Dr. Blaxhill a bit here, this game is mostly populated by older wargamers who are distinct from the 40k/AoS crowd that seems to only play with what GW says is ok/ " the way to play ". I do hope that the rules show GW that we will keep these factions in the game whether they like it or not, and thus push them to fleshing them out fully. But if that doesn't happen, we can just move on without GW each edition.

Hi guys, haven't posted here in a good while, but I just discovered the weirdest 4chan related thing that's ever happened to me and I need to share this. As it happens I've been getting back into warhammer fantasy stuff recently, and I've been re-reading Knights of the Grail, which remains IMHO the best wfrp/whfb/tow/whatever sourcebook ever published (along with Marienburg Sold Down the River). I wanted to check what some other lorefags opinions were on a few Bret topics, so I put in some keywords on the archive to see if I could find any interesting posts.
This is where I got hit by massive whiplash, I immediately recognised my own writing (I know my pet peeves), but dated to messages from the last few months somehow? I dug a bit further and it looks like since 2023, someone (or something) has been reusing my posts as basically copypastas? What's going on here? Is this some deranged shitposter or a bot of some sort? If posts on here really are mostly just recycled shit, that would at least explain why it seems like everyone on here seems to be suffering from some sort of brain damage nowadays. Anywho I'll post a timestamp of the original dudes just to show I'm not bullshitting.
>>
>>
>>
>>97934555
I mean I think it was just some one who decided to turn your post into copy pasta. But yeah that's weird.
I mean you're not wrong, Knights of the grail is a fantastic book that fleshes out Bretonnia in a much needed way.

>>97934589
I mean I still fundamentally agree with what I posted back then, I just feel like I wouldn't phrase it in such an antagonistic way nowadays. KOTG is fantastic at portraying this fantasy nation that would instantly crumble under its contradictions if it actually strictly followed its own rules, so everyone just pretends not to notice all the suspiciously beardless knights, noble bandits and knightly peasants, etc. Much more interesting than the Stillman&Reynolds disaster duo, or indeed the latest TOW outing, which from I've gathered has done the typical nuGW thing of rewriting everyone to have the morals and disposition of a 2019 Seattle HR manager, which is such bullshit to me.

De vair is a criminally underused heraldic pattern, both IRL and on tabletop + it was das famously used by Enguerrand de Coucy, one of the more interesting figures of the HYW, who also happened to hail from Somme/Picardy, whose warhammer equivalent (the windy plains of l'Anguille) my own army is supposed to represent.

Fair. I don't think HH is going to be the answer for many as I also did research on it and was told by people in the community and here that 3.0 isn't very good. And it is it's own thing more so than playing like pre 8th edition 40k.

>>97934732

I am wondering how they will sell the kits individually. Probably 20 peasants in a box? It should be 30 because they cost so few points but it'll probably not be with them being new sculpts. And then 8 Crane Guns in a box and 12 Iron Hail guns in a box? Neither of those share sprues right?
>>
>>
>>
>>97934780
Jade Warriors are in a set of 20s in a single box, so I would guess the peasants will be as well
The Crane Gunners and Iron Hail Gunners share a spruce, so expect them to be like in that reinforcement box

So much painting for OnG is the only thing that worries me. But on the plus side metal models ( I really really like metal models ).
>>97934791
Oh weird. I wonder how they are going to be priced to make that box a good deal then. 1.5 kits of Peasants (assuming GW goes greedy which they prob will), 1 kit of crane/ironhail gunners and 0.5 kit for the characters (assuming they are priced like the new Liche Priests).
So you get 3 kits for 15% more than the standard battalions, which also have 3 kits each on average. So the discount is significantly worse than the other battalions across the board. And extra bad vs the Cathay battalion which is 3.5 kits for the price of just over 2.

Bit of an odd thing but I find making fluff or /your dudes/ a Daemon Prince or Greater Daemon rather jarring and difficult. For a DP, he has reached the end of his journey, he is at his peak. There is no room for growth, character dynamics, or rivalry. He's uber powerful and ultimately already fully fledged out.
Same with a Bloodthirster. Also I find it hard too to see or develop rivalries against others. Especially since they're more or less endgame threats and weird for a DP or BT to just pop up at a village every now and then. Plus its pretty discouraging when they due because of that expectation of status too.
At least say a Chaos Lord could be part of a big raid abd is still sort of rooted in mortal limitations. What would you all suggest?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97934969
>What would you all suggest?
work backwards: how did the character reach demohood? why did their god fashion this demon? what were the noteworthy events he was involved in or were centered around him? and what consequences did those events have? did they lose sometimes? if so when and where and against whom?
with demon princes you have to look at the story of the chaos champion he used to be, because despite the best attempts at being an ascended immortal monster beyond earthly concerns, princes still end up carrying scars of their previous lives and personalities sometimes.
with greater demons you can think in more esoteric terms, the same way gods represent broad spheres of concepts like rage, despair and whatnot, their demons can represent very specific ones instead, like the rage of the faulty artisan, or the despair of a very particular year given form.
think of them less like breathing living characters and more like stories with their poetic or karmic twists.

Thank you for the quality poat. Of course, I guess one could have the origin of a DP and his historical battles with some scars. But I feel building upon their present form is tough. Can't get much stronger or grow further if you're already at the end so to speak. DP can't have a rivalry against certain races IMO due to the power imbalance and, well, how he can keep turning up in the mortal realm or travelling through the old world. I dunno, maybe im thinking too much.
Ditto with BT. Maybe an incursion across the mountain of mourn or something but again, just picturing it. With a mortal or another race, you can have a base of operation somewhere around the old world. Can't really think for a DP or GT.

>>97934770
I mean eh sure, if you're only going to use the warhammer world as a backdrop for fantasy battles (as the games very title implies you should) then fair enough. It does make for very boring RPG material though. I will maintain that Stillman's Perilous Quest has to be the campaign supplement with the worst narrative frame and cringiest writing pre ET, that thing is truly irredeemable.
>>97934969
Well the way I see it with DPs, you could mainly take it as a conversion challenge. I'm sure there's an old RoC table you can roll on to get a DPs attribute and trying to tie together whatever rhino legs and poisoned fur that will spit out would already be a good starting point towards a good /your dude/.
Alternatively, do it like the other anon said. Most high level chaos goons seem to spend basically 99% of their time doing battle royales in the Chaos Wastes or realms of Chaos proper. What exactly has gone wrong with your dude to make him wander the southron lands with low level chaos rabble instead?
>>97935178
It's kind of stripped of context here, but yes I agree that Reynolds Bretonnia is complete ass. I do however also think Stillman's version wasn't much better which is a somewhat more controversial opinion here. As for the other thing, belieb me it's not some sort of whim. It's the sober reality of this or the wretched existence of John 50.

No. Heavily army comp dependant. As a rule of thumb, I'd say spears are better if you don't have at least light armor, and role dependant otherwise. Some units want to be charged, like skeletons. If you have light armor or better, HW shield is better in many use cases. If you're toughness 4, spears are better.

You should snag it first- you're watchmen, just walk up, come up with some arbitrary excuse, and confiscate it. Ez. Take it back to your precinct, rig it to explode, then let them pry it out of your hands. They steal it, they bribe you for it, they lean on your boss, whatever. Give it back, they take it to their master, boom.
2. That works perfectly. Merchants demand it back, players hold out for more time because they're still busy rigging it up. Some local lowlifes swing by the watch precinct to intimate that Certain Parties would like them to remand it. No way, fag. Then instead of the merchants coming back, Emanual Nacht's #2 shows up to SCREAM AT THEM about waylaying a VITAL PACKAGE containing holy relics HER LADYSHIP HERSELF is going to PUBLICALLY PRESENT to the Temple of Sigmar HOW DARE YOU and if you've laid one finger on that holy cargo I'LL HAVE YOU ALL HANGED. At considerable insistence, he walks away with the now-rigged chest that they've arranged to look like it's been unopened.
3. Party, hopefully going "ohshitohshitohshit-" realizing that they're about to accidentally assassinate their boss's boss's boss, realize they have to sneak into the castle, or city hall, or whatever, and swap out the package before they really are strung up on treachery charges.
4. While trying to infiltrate wherever it's being stored, they run into the skaven cult they were initially swiping this from, who have been pulling out their fur and desperately improvising because some motherfuckers stole their shipment before it even left the boat and they've been forced to take drastic action themselves.

Weakest part is the transition to 3- what if they just go "not our problem fuck better keep our heads down". Someone to rub their face in how absolutely turbofucked they are if the package they rigged kills people when they were the last known possessors, might be necessary. For greater hilarity, I could also see about arranging for the Yellowbellies to hire them to get it back which would be _funny_ but I'm not sure it would work.
I want to have the elf in the party contacted by the patron from the OWB patron book, spymaster elf interested in reclaiming elven artifacts, so some explanation for why a sigmarite holy relic is (or contains) elven components would be nice. I'm unfortunately quite unlearned on elves. What do they have that's good or would be of interest (or usable by) a sigmarite martyr? I don't think elves do hammers, so maybe something like a heroic imperial knight's elven lance or sword?
And since that's pitting elf against the party that wants their necks unstretched, would it be plausible for the artifact to be known by reputation but not actually recognized? So if they think quickly and substitute literally an other run of the mill but fancy looking lance, or sword, it will be accepted as 'the relic' by all but the most autistic of scholars with this as their special interest?

I don’t get why people are so surprised why there are trans folk here. The nerdier and more groggier the playerbase, the more likely you are to encounter their ilk. Seriously, I can get Cathay because you had a whole new set of toys released that were all incredibly bland but when pushed together you incite the cheerleader effect, but the marauders were just fucking awful all around. Depends what you want the unit to do.
A unit with spears will get a massive amount of attacks assuming
1. Its a big unit, wide and at least three deep
2. Will get charged, not charge
3. Will remain at least three deep after most likely getting swung at first
Shields and HW is good for units that benefit greatly from a little extra sticking power. Light armour or heavy armour is great. I actually run HW + shield on some Gors who otherwise have no save because 7ppm for T4 is fuckin baller so getting T4 5+ sv with parry is jooci

GW's sculptors forgot how to make good poses. There's no nuance anymore, either a model is either in an awkward and still freeze-frame or it's in an ugly motion. There's no cool factor! I mean fuck, just look at that orc shaman! He's standing still, but he's doing it properly! He looks like he's about to smack someone's shit while also being incredibly old and world-weary. Look at the elf lady! The little flourish with her cape adds a lot of character to the sculpt. Look at that beastman! The pose is so evocative! Look at the empire guy and the chaos champion! They're not just posing, they're posturing. They're inspiring bravery in their men! Compare and contrast with... fuck, I can't even remember what the new chaos lady is supposed to be called and the big empire general with the world of warcraft pauldron. Their poses suck! They're not inspiring! They don't make me go "oh shit look at this guy!", they're boring! Look at the liche priest! Jesus Christ! He looks scary! He looks like a God damn mummy who can eat your soul or drain all the moisture from your body with a touch! He's cool! The new ones just look weak and gay! And too wet! They're too wet, man! They look like crackheads instead of mummies! And what's even worse is that they somehow managed to fuck up a model that's pointing at the enemy. That's supposed to be impossible! Pointing at your enemies is supposed to be super cool, yet they managed to fuck it up!
Why are the new miniatures not cool? That should be guiding principle #1. Ranking up, looking good in a unit, whatever, yeah, that matters, but the sculpts have to look cool before any of that can be considered.
>>
>>
>>
>>97937519
No, the beastman is bad too. Why is he posed like any other wizard could be posed? He's a beastman! Where's the savagery, and the barbarism?

Alright /wfg/ I had an idea for a (marginally) more 'civilised' beastmen army, inspired by actual Dark Ages raiding cultures rather than Conan The Barbarian stuff, kitbashing the old minis with Victrix historicals, is this totally stupid or a potentially cool idea?
>>
>>97938581
Well, from what little lore I do know about Araby, sorcery is rather commonplace and accepted, so why would they have a group of islands off the coast and across some extremely hazardous waters specified for sorceres? Just spitballing here, but...
Is this their University where their young sorcerers and magicians are trained?
Is it where their highly ranked sorcerers perform horrible, unethical magical experiments on slaves and captives?
A prison for sorcerers possessed by daemons, kept bound deep underground for study and analysis and to be subject of even more horrifying experiments?
D: All of the above?
>>
>>97938581
I'm guessing you have already watched the Sinbad films for inspiration, but Rocs or other weird Sea Birds might work
Maybe animated statues that the Sorcerers of the island trapped Djinn or demons into, like in those two Conan stories (Shadows in the Moonlight and The Devil in Iron)
Looking at the Flora and fauna of islands like Socotra or Masirah in the Arabian Sea would be another inspiration
>>
>>
>>97938581
arabyans that try to copy the wizard styles of other races and factions, often by having many slaves from that race of faction as well
sorcerers with no actual magical powers, just money, enough to buy very elaborate traps for djinns under their services, with the goal of catching them all and becoming the very best
a stadium of dyslexic fantasy soccer players
magical students, often the sons of very rich people who send their kids to study abroad and get easy powers and degrees instead of being enrolled in the imperial colleges and forced to be sanctioned

At this point I'm certain GW is actively trying to distance themselves from any historical inspiration for bretonnia and the empire, likely to have an easier time enforcing their copyright.
The Perrys leaving GW was probably the breaking point behind this change, but it's been so long since we got new WFB sculpts that we're only now noticing it.

>The squarebase rules have been gaining traction in the tournament scene more & more. Do you find these rules acceptable?
I like em. I don't agree with the square based dudes on some things (esp politics lol) but I like the effort going into the rules, I think they're a reasonable addition, they're open to feedback on them, and that they're making the legacy armies their sense of fluffiness on the tabletop.
My second favourite thing about the pack is that the community uptake and collaboration on them has been so strong, it's a really good sign for the health of the community ('community' as in, the players of the game, and their ability to not only be self-sufficient but also their ability to reach a consensus, which I don't think has been done on this scale before in WHFB. Maybe swedish comp? I think this may be even broader though.) Kinda ties in with what >>97933906 said too.
My favourite thing about the pack though is that the broad consensus and uptake of a community-decided set of rules is making the minmaxing official-rules-abusing tourney players completely lose their shit lol.

Well it's obviously uber old lore at this point since its from 1985, but the Knights of Origo maintain a monastery in what we would now call the Sorcerer's Islands, so if you want some crazy crusader knights, you could try incorporating them.
Some other OC ideas:
- A long abandoned elf lighthouse that has since been taking over by the Bretonnian Royal Navy and is being used as an outpost to help watch over maritime trade routes. Their existence has been almost entirely forgotten back home except for a few Manaanite clerks in the Bordeleaux admiralty though, so it's been twelve years since they've seen any real resupply. The only remaining occupants are the noble Sieur Frédémeric, a Bretonnian knight that's gone half-mad, half-native and his trusty pegasus Vaurien. He's seconded by Hussein Khodja and Ali Khodja, two local Arabyans he's convinced himself are just two particularly tanned and heavily accented Carcasonnais peasants (he suspects Ali, or Alain as he calls him, might have some Estalian blood, but doesn't mention it to him out of politeness). The two Arabyans stay with Frédémeric and indulge his madness because his pegasus scouting expeditions are genuinely useful at gathering intelligence, which they use to forewarn their small home fishing village some ten miles east of any possible Druchii, Norscan or Arabyan raiding parties
>>
>>97938876
Don't those guys have their Fortress on the Isle of Fyrus, which is on the northern coast of Araby? That was its location in TWW but looking online, it doesn't seem to show up in any official maps published by GW
The Sorcerer Isle on the south-western coastline
>>
>>97937471
This is what happens when you don't want to credit, grow or support your artists. GW had all of the top talent in the industry, people who had grown along with the hobby, and then squandered them in favour of corpslop. Today's sculpts are what you get when you can't let your new sculptors develop their own style and a name of their own. Those talented enough to do the setting justice won't allow themselves the humiliation of becoming a nameless nda'd sculptor that will never be credited.

Fyrus never made it out of the Warhammer dark ages and was pretty much forgotten by the time GW was actually publishing maps for their setting that was beginning to take form. The lore was later rediscovered by CA which put an island of Fyrus and the knights of Origo in TWW as a way to add enemy variety for the one of the TK starts. Unless you want to treat TWW as hard canon, I think it would be perfectly reasonable to say Fyrus is actually one of the unnamed islands in the Sorcere's archipelago, since it can't really be anywhere else on the map, unless it's really minuscule.
>>97938876
- A lone Socotra looking island inhabited by a giant regal looking lion that's inexplicably green. The beast is extremely elusive and can in fact only be found if one is not looking for it. Further investigation of the island reveals its craggy rock are only home to a few colonies of hyraxes, raising the question of what the lion actually eats to sustain itself. Later on in the adventure, they can manage to glean from various Arabyan sorcerers and alchemists that the island is home to a powerful djinn whose frothing bile is known to dissolve or reconstitute any metal. This bile is highly prized, but no one in living memory has been able to bring secure any and most believe the creature to be nothing but a myth. Even further research finally reveals that the animal was borne out of a forbidden affair between Ptra in the guise of Oermath and Verena, revealing it to actually be of divine nature.

I'd be willing to bet money that he is just a repurposed Blood bowl star player that got canned. The design language feels a lot more closer to the 2nd edition starter team than anything the empire has ever had.

I do think some elements are over utilised, particularly the shield and Fleur motifs. Look at that Pegasus, it's got like 10 Fleurs and 10 shields but no other interesting sculpted detail.
Being completely fair, this is something that dates back to the 6th edition peasants and knights of the realm, although to a somewhat smaller degree.

>Nils and Sven set up a beautiful board with fully painted armies and solemnly introduce themselves and their lists before proceeding to switch to an overlay of the battlefield where you can hardly see what's going on and barely hear their introverted mumbling to each other for the next 3 hours until the camera pans back to them solemnly thanking you for watching the game before rolling the credits which is a list of 4 patreon usernames

I'm really glad we didn't. TOW is great because it's GW's designers attempting to design factions from whole cloth, or at least two points removed from anything IRL, rather than just copypasting IRL ethnicities and calling it a day. Sometimes it works better than others, but just chasing trends would never have given us cool shit like the Dark Elves or Wood elves. The best factions of Fantasy (TOW and AOS both) are the ones with the least real-world grounding.
And, frankly, the IDK minis they came up with aren't that great. The AOS threads spooged themselves over the Big Turtle but it did nothing for me. If it does something for you, well, I'm sure you can proxy them as something in TOW if you really want.

I don't like (non-amphibious) sea monsters coming on land. The HE sea dragon thing is gay enough as it is, a whole army based on the lamest of the already lame DC capeshitters is just beyond retarded. I know Atlantean Elves off the coast of Naggaryth have always been a thing, but this was not the way to go about it. They should be a Ambush unit for both HE/DE or something, there is simply not enough there to make for a compelling faction of their own.

DoW are NOT coming back any time soon, but how would you like them to come back? New kits? MTO? Full restock of classic kits? Would you be interested in official Tileans and Estalians in new plastics? What about NEW DoW units in plastic?
>>

I think they should come back with an MTO of all the classics, and then also have the classic kits redone in plastic. Keeping the same aesthetic of course.

I don't think any Vampires would raep other than maybe Lahmians or a particularly insane Ghoul King. Von Carsteins are too refined for it, Blood Dragons are too autistic for it, Necrarchs are too magic-obsessed to even remember what cooming feels like, etc.

They're fat and disgusting, they speak at the floor like autists, their camera work is shit, their terrain is bare minimum effort, their editing is nonexistent, I could go on. They put in very little effort and it shows. There's a reason they get like 5k views per video.
>>
>>97940783
Lots of fat guys in the hobby, that has nothing to do with the quality of the batreps. They absolutely don't speak at the floor. Their camera work is very standard, although I prefer their member only classic held camera batreps which have even less editing. Their terrain is way above average compared to what you'd see at a shop, in terms of variety. They aren't TTT level of kino, but they are pretty great, and also pretty consistently above 5k views looking at the last few months.

I really want Zhao Ming/ Shang-Yang to be fleshed out. I know it makes more sense to base the launch around his more boring sister. But he's the grit Cathay desperately needs. Has a drug like addiction to warpstone, shelters and provides patronage for rogue sorcerers (Alchemists) in order to share in the rewards of their experiments (going directly against Imperial mandate). Fleshing out the Alchemical Cults in Western Cathay that have been fleshed out in TWW would be a great direction to expand into.

God DAMN I hate this faggot's art, he literally draws the same face with the same expression on it every time. As for what's next, probably an MTO or two, maybe for High Elves or WoC, then Dark Elves come back, then more MTOs (Dark Elves, then maybe Bretonnian and Empire knights?), then Ogres long after them, maybe Zhao Ming and some more Empire characters eventually.

2+ years out contingent on Putler. Russia and slavic cultures are not exactly popular with bongs right now.

MTO a LONG way out, reprints likely never, new units in plastic possible but unlikely.

I don't mean this in a sarcastic way. I get your mentality. I went though it from 17-18 years old and had your hating fat people mentality for a few years. All I have to say is, be compassionate to others, being overweight isn't a moral flaw. You don't need to be zealous to maintain your weight.

All it takes sometimes is one person to light a fire that can cause fat to burn. Compassion is good and can move mountains for some.

Reputable rumor mongers have said it's going to be new Warriors, Knights, and Chosen. It would make sense, Chaos is the most popular faction, bringing the iconic units up to the standards of modern sculpts would be super popular.
>>97941559
It's easy to say that when there's very little art and actual fluff. It's basically just "imagine something cool. Wouldn't that be cool?" I could see them pushing it back and waiting on all the "Legacy" stock to trickle out of AoS, except probably Skaven which will stay in AoS (something's gotta keep that line afloat and it's definitely not gonna be fucking ICoS or trannycast). I'm sure they have plenty of CADslop waiting to be fit onto moulds already as you said, but that doesn't mean it won't be shelved for years.

>>
>>97941845
You're making a big leap.
Yes, it's true that the old gamers who get mad when they see a woman are not a market GW is super concerned about.
It's true that big splashy new army releases are big money makers
But that doesn't mean we're getting Ind.
Kislev, Chaos Dwarves, relaunching Legacy factions, refreshing old model ranges, big expansions of existing ranges with stuff like Dogs of War, Halflings, god-aligned Chaos units, whatever, also count.
So there's no reason to be like, "yes, Ind is a lock 100% this time next year we'll all be playing Ind".

TOW is the backburner project behind even 30K. They probably don't see anything wrong with not having starters for half a year. Perhaps they thoughts third party stores had bigger stores of them but since they all sold out instantly once the supply stopped I guess not.

I like his video essays, but they are very much essays. The titles and the content are both like reading a dissertation on a WHFB topic in a published history journal. However he sticks a load of pomp and hyperbole into them and underneath there's usually a thoughtful reasoned debate, so they're a decent watch imo.

I fell asleep after posting this, thank you for the suggestions. The campaign is set 100 years after a failed End Times and the players are Estalians taking part in their own Spanish Golden Age. The Sorcerer's Islands have an Estalian presence as an equivalent to the Canaries or Azores, but most of the islands are uncharted by the Estalian authorities.
I like the suggestion of taking Socotra and Masirah onboard for extra flora and fauna. I had an idea that it should be the closest point of Southlands-style creatures, like dinosaurs/pterosaurs since on maps I always see it coloured very green. Regarding the titular Sorcerer, my idea was that either Jaffar (who conquered Estalia) or one of his successors as a major sorcerer-king had a complex there, an sort of mix of pleasure palace, fortress of last retreat and experiment area, now abandoned and crawling with chaotic magics locked away. The djinn being a major aspect is a good idea. We are playing Dungeon Crawl Classics and two wizards rolled patron bond, so I am thinking of offering a djinn as a magical patron to one.
I will fold in the Knights of Origo as a faction. My plan is to introduce some religious aspects as the islands are a hub for traders and conquistadors going West to Lustria and East to the Indies-equivalent lands, each picking up strange new doctrines (pseudo-Mormons, Sun cultists reinterpreting Myrmidia worship as a monotheism, etc.) which are all coming about after the not-End Times shook up the world as well as the flow of magic. I will place the lighthouse in the hexmap once I get properly started too. My intention was to have this area as a sort of Level 1 tutorial hexmap before shipping them to the far east, but I might hold onto it up to the end of level 2 (with slow xp gain)

That's a pretty cool premise for a campaign anon I have to say. Another concept you could try and adapt would be a warhammer version of the Republic of Salé (Republic of Sucré I guess). Basically a muslim pirate republic on the coast of Morocco founded by exiled Spanish moors and European pirate converts that copied the Italian city states in their organisation.

I don't understand your point. GW pulls game/army starters all the time, and it's almost always a sign that a new starter for that army/game is coming very soon. Why would that be different for TOW, other than your feelings?

I like that idea. I might write up some of the some of the lore in a proper resource and share it at some point. My broad idea is that the not-End Times/Storm of Chaos should be as big of a status-quo changer as the original opening of the Vortex, with events mirroring the early modern period (conquest of the New World, Reformation etc.), while the realm of Chaos was also fucked up by the solution to stopping the End Times (ordered races and Nagash teaming up, overloading Nagash with Dharr and shoot him as a magic torpedo into hell, creating a new Chaos god and magical instability that allows new gods to rise up and the winds of magic to go haywire, giving validity to various magical/new god cults). I wanted every faction to still be recognizable but clearly changed, like now the Empire had to accept Sylvania and Vlad as an elector, which led to the other nobility demanding guarantees while the central authority was weak, eventually resulting into an electoral system more like Poland-Lithuania. I think Araby in general will be a series of city-states, nominally loyal to a Caliph figure but in reality operating independently, some under Estalian influence and other opposed.

Doing some work on this giant for my Renegade Crowns project.
I'm waiting on some bits to arrive for his club (will be made from a great cannon barrel). If I get impatient I might give him a two-handed club from the ironguts kit.
I've got a little tidying up to do with the sculpted elements, but won't take more than an hour or so thankfully.
The rope bits holding the portcullis loincloth were a pain in the ass to get right (in terms of the angle) and I resorted to the baking soda and superglue method to get a decent hold between parts with a small connection point.
If you have an idea for a name, let me know.
