Really nice, though the small version with his sword is very endearing, and that pairing of the mask and blade in particular is nice. The Nuva shoulders as elbow pads are pretty nice in the new version however, and the stance is great. Funny that I don't think I've ever seen a fully black Piraka foot like you have there.

To give him hands that can hold something without relying on a hilt, you could remove the middle fingers and find some way to attach to the freed rung.

And here's one of my own that feels spiritually similar. Same kind of hunched stance and spiky silhouette.

I had taken it apart for washing the parts, it used to have a head but the neck joint broke, big parts for its interesting construction would be toa mata limbs being used as the lower legs and a 3 long double hand joint being used to support both the blasters at the bottom plus 2 more jetpacks, and the borhok eyes being on the back of the hands with them being inverted to have the blades at an odd angle in the piraka arm, otherwise simple enough, also nice

Nah, sorry, those are the only photos I have of him and I haven't had my parts in years. I think it may have been built in part around a Hordika torso.

Here's my blue guy from back then.

Hit up the new Bricks and Minifigs with my friend today, pretty good haul, there was more but my bag was loaded up with castle pieces and I didn't want to ball out on the $50 bag.
Black Miru Nuva is definitely the big grab for me, Rotor helmet is a sign for me to make that Mars Mission MOC idea I have floating in my head after opening my sealed copy from 2010.

>>
>>11700631
Were all these from the pile of random parts where they let you fill a bag or tub? You got some good stuff. Especially the masks. I saw a white Miru Nuva at my store but it was $30 and that was too much for me.
What are those two silver parts between the Miru Nuva and the orange limb, near the middle? Looks like weapon parts but I don’t recognize them.
>>
>>11700641
Yeah they had a lot sorted by color but there was also a lot of not even sorted at all, I'm sure there's more in there, might go back soon. Two silver parts I think you're talking about are Pohatu Phantoka's weapon.

Lotta Bionicle pieces like that. Real surprise is I didn't find more Pohatu pieces in the bins. Then again they might be buried in there.
Think my Miru find is gonna be the push to start displays for the mask pack masks, Krana and Kraata. Just gotta settle on a design I like. Saw a cool build for a Roborider disk display that uses a lot of white Mata torso, might copy that for that collection. Real challenge is a display for throwing discs from various themes.

Meanwhile this is what I got from a location at one point, also found a Miru Nuva at one of these in brown which I carry around, for some reason. Don’t often get to dig through their bionicle bins. Also got a lot of technic from there. Have to find another location’s bionicle parts

Also found a lot of weird roboriders and other technic parts, except wheels in there. And some weird one off weapons too. And yeah I found some nice masks and even just didn’t take a silver kaukau because I just felt like I didn’t need it and would rather let the stock regenerate instead of completely draining an eco system
>>
>>11700682
>>11700683
>instead of completely draining an eco system
tbf they were literally preparing more bulk as I was there so they probably buy the lots that to a regular bricklink flipper would be a higher risk investment, but because they deal in higher numbers they can afford it, hence the bin with $10+ pieces just sitting in it. Definitely gonna plan another trip soon to hunt for more Bionicle/Technic bits to play with and hopefully build a MOC soon.

I just don’t like completely draining any eco system of a certain color or a semi common part, for example trying to not completely drain original dark gray parts out even though its tempting, I just have to mix and match. I found the completion to this crate too so thats something
>>
>>11700693
I mean yeah I wouldn't completely take all of something, unless I found Sand Red or Purple, which by the other Life on Mars parts I found may every well be in those bins somewhere. My friend is planning to build a castle MOC but he still missed a few large castle pieces.

I have only found two (2) sand red bricks in the wild at any of these stores, but managed to get some greedo 2004 legs and the bespin 2006 head for super cheap. I’m still trying to get some of those life on mars turbine casings just to see what I can figure out to do with them but no such luck so far. Also has your friend seen the belville/scala big castle spire pieces yet?
>>
>>11700697
>belville/scala big castle spire pieces
Which ones do you mean? I'll point them out to him in the morning. Personally I've been mulling the idea of a quasi space themed castle using sand red and purple just don't have enough pieces yet to start plotting it out. Still have to finish my scorpion centaur dark hunter that's been 80% done for months now.

I found random armored upper arms from the Inika but no masks or torsos along with some non Lego crap but I also saw them dumping bulk from bins in to home depot buckets so I wonder how much they filter out on first go. >>
>>11702553
They're meant to be used with towball parts, e.g. towball axles, towball pegs, or 4x4 towball cogs. IIRC they do not typically hold enough friction to be really used as joints and they're not meant to, since most frequently they were used to make Technic steering/drivetrain systems with suspension. You might get mildly different results if you experimented with modern Mixel towball parts but I'ddoubt it.

>>11709840
They should have been green or lime.
>>
>>11709686
None of the other Va had recolored weapons, they just used whatever was in existing colors at the time (presumably to save money; the Va only used existing parts so they feel like sort of an afterthought), so it wouldn't make sense to make a bunch of new katanas in lime just for Lehvak Va when they already had the gray ones.

...Except for Pahrak Va, who had Onewa's staff in tan, even though the original brown one still would have matched the color. Best theory I can come up with is they had a bunch of misprints lying around that they needed to get rid of or something.

It still should have been green or lime, imagine if Tahnok Va had the fire staff in orange, Kohrok Va the clawteeth in light gray (why aren’t his arms light gray), Gahlok Va the big hook in Medium Blue, And Nuhvok Va the claws in Dark Gray, would have been better overall

"Ungrit" the lore? This take on the lore is already lost with the Po-Matoran having their rotting flesh dripping out between their mechanical parts. Foul stuff, very un-Bionicle. I'll take the next creative's version of Bionicle, please.

The reason the Toa Mata have to assemble themselves after emerging from the cans is because all the flesh rotted away after being stuck in stasis for thousands of years and they have to grow it back.
Po-Matoran being given a routine to prevent dry rot in the hot desert sun isn't an unreasonable thing to add.
>>
>>11716430
Is "flesh" actually a canon bionicle thing?
I never dug too deep into the lore as a kid but I assumed they were all just robots or whatever

Yes. The Miramax films where you can see something like muscle tissue between gaps in their body is is pretty much what they would look like if they made lore accurate toys.

I'm a bit split on the architecture. I think the domes look fine as an expansion of the houses we see in the game. But the squarer buildings and the woodwork look too much like real life Middle East, like Petra with all those elaborate edges.

I found my old Avak head/spine rubber piece, but it feels sort of waxy and sticky, and it has a weird smell. I assume those Piraka rubber pieces just naturally deteriorate over time. Is there any way to restore those pieces? Unsure if simply washing them in soap/water would help.

Yeah they didn't design the Stars Hau to fit the Metru heads. Only the Av-Matoran heads (the shiddy ones that break all the time). So you either gotta deal with it slipping off the Metru head a little, or make a custom head. Or use the Av-Matoran head with a friction adder so you never really touch its own socket.

The fact that bionicle parts are getting so expensive that we are showing off small parts of a complete build as a rare find really saddens me. I can't quite put it to words but something about that feels deeply wrong.

Tahu looks great. Not as good as a clean Hau obviously but it probably wasn't going to get any better as a mass manufactured minifig scale helmet, and it sure as shit could have been way worse. I bet it won't be long before people start 3D printing heads for the others, along with accurate weapons.

Only thing left to wonder about is if this will really be a "cosplayer" with a yellow head under there, or a printed Mata head.

>>
Here's a back comparison, that part remains normal, why is it just the front?
>>
>>11724830
>>11724832
>I kept it in a plastic box along my other pieces,
There's your problem, the material used for masks 2003-onward is very soft and prone to getting scratched by other pieces. The yellowing is probably dirt getting rubbed into the microscopic indentations caused by the scratching. The back is unaffected because it's not as exposed to the other pieces as the front is.

Whenever these fellas are up for buying I gotta get Tahu, but I've never once purchased a minifigure through the Lego Store, can I choose them or is it just random?
>>
>>11725812
Random. If you find them in person theres a qr code at the bottom you can scan which will tell you what it is (once they're decoded which shouldnt take long).

>>
>>11725663

Exo-Force arm fingers are cool though
>>
>>11726008
It was always real, what was fake was the pic with the mask. Pretty obvious in hindsight, but I think people just wanted to be hopeful it'd be so faithful. Given the size the cuts in the mask could obviously not happen.
>>
>>11725812
>>11725830
Good luck fighting the local trannies for them. I had a hard enough time finding a single brown classic spaceman when those came out. I imagine it will be much worse for Tahu.
>>
>>11726073
The real one looks better too. It's a bit more squashed so it fits the minifig proportions better. If it was just a 100% accurate Hau scaled down it wouldn't look right.
>>
Some questions about washing secondhand Bionicle. Do I need to take sets apart before putting them in the soapy water? Can rubber parts like Krana go into the water with everything else? And how do I wash a Midak Skyblaster (I assume it has a metal spring inside so it probably shouldn’t be dunked in the water)?
>>
>>11726099
You don't have to, but if you want a thorough clean, you should take them apart. I'd be weary about pieces that are notorious for breaking.

Krana would be fine. The material is basically unbreakable.

I'd just clean the surface. If you want to excessively use water, just make sure you dry it carefully after the fact.
>>
>>11726099
I would take the sets apart so the most possible surface of the parts is exposed. Don't know about rubber parts. Assemblies, especially with metal inside, I would wipe off manually.
>>11725777
What an annoying post to make by them.
>>
>>11726120
>>11726121
Thanks. But I stupidly forgot to remove the skyblaster from my bag of parts before dumping everything into the water. I took it out and tried drying it right way, but hopefully it’ll be okay.
>>
>>11726265
It'll be fine, just make sure there's no water hiding anywhere near metal parts. I've accidentally done the same when I cleaned up an old Axalara.
