I have read the Yu-Gi-Oh manga back in the day (when it was about all sorts of games) and have seen a handful of episodes of the anime, so I‘m not familiar enough to create an entry, otherwise I would‘ve done so

After watching the new Super Mario Galaxy movie Super Bowl TV spot… I’ll never understand LEGO sitting out this one and the first movie. I can maybe get skipping the first film since everyone thought it would bomb but after it made 1 billion dollars you’d think LEGO would make sets for the sequel. Minifigure sets too. Yet nothing.
And the movie is toyetic as fuck.
Maybe the Super Mario theme just isn’t selling that well…

Today, in the local library I saw Bootlego electronics/education sets. Those things are usually based on original lego sets, so I'm trying to find it. It's hard to describe it, because it wasn't like any other WeDo or Mindstorms hub. The motors were connected through electric "dots" at the top of the hub. The motors connected through "cross" dots. Sound bricks - 2 dots. The hub had several LEDs on the side.
Does anyone know what it might've been?

Why do now so many themes have buildable things or characters instead of playsets with minifigs?
>>
File: Emmett.jpg (9.2 KB)
9.2 KB JPG
>>11703297
Because AFOLs see them as "buildable display pieces" or "models" meant to be built once then put on a shelf or table as room decor, rather than a toy or playset.
LEGO has become literally what their own movie told them what you shouldn't do with LEGOs.
>>
>>
>>11703329
>what went so wrong?
While adult LEGO collectors have always been a thing, like many other (mostly) toy and collectable manufacturers, they saw an explosion of buying in 2020. So they leaned into making a lot more adult oriented sets, and like so many of those other companies, they realized they could charge whatever they wanted and blame it on the laundry list of world events that have been happening in the last 5-6 years, and people would just accept it and pay anyway.
They know nostalgia bait sells well, and they could just get all the video game, movie, comic, whatever properties that were 20, 30, 40 years old, and the people who grew up with them had expendable income, so they would just buy those things regardless of the price.
Star Wars didn't help, because that is the testing ground for new features, new prices, and other new ways to cut corners and raise prices.
Also, when a person buys like a $20, or $30, or even $50 set, they don't really have any issues tearing them apart, throwing the parts in a box, and then just building something else out of them. But when people spend $500, or $800, or $1000 on a set, most people aren't going to build it and tear it apart in a month and build something new out of it. Its a statement piece to show off to other people, and people who view LEGO that way are who the high-end sets are aimed at.

This could be updated, since it's referring to 'sets coming out' in 2014, 2015. Surely, there's other stuff that's outdated?
Didn't see anything about where to find instructions for retired sets on line? I don't mean buy them from someone off Brick Link, I mean just find them on-line to use? Like a manual for a VCR or washing machine?

>While adult LEGO collectors have always been a thing, like many other (mostly) toy and collectable manufacturers, they saw an explosion of buying in 2020
The adults that liked LEGO prior to COVID, or really even just the post-2015 current of mainstream-ification of the hobby, were universally almost all AFOLs in the traditional sense of the word. The problem with modern LEGO is that it is entirely catering to normies who otherwise likely wouldn't have any interest in the hobby, if not for the sheer breadth of massive sets that they've been releasing at a rapid pace for the last couple of years. I literally feel like the target demographic of nu-LEGO are the exact kind of people who would have made fun of the nerds who collected sets in their teenage years 20-30 years ago.
>>

I'm pretty sure I would eventually have learned about Brick Link itself just by coming to the thread and skimming it but I'm sure newbies learn about it faster when it's in the OP.
Also, any gen I skim or look at that just has:
>previous: >>

archive.palanq.win/toy/search link
which a bunch currently don't bother with, comes across as just lazy, fast and easy, sloppy GENERALS.
I don't have time enough or knowledge enough of LEGO to do it myself, but I've done that kind of clean up when I modded or just helped out in groups, there are always people like me willing to do it. I'm not offering, because again, this is all new to me so I have few clues and I'm too fucking old to spend time learning about shit I'm not all that interested in.

Is this the true fact of the matter underlying all the moaning about nulego? There are more sets than ever targeting a broader range of consumers, but this is bad because some of those consumers remind you of your high school bullies?

>LEGO has become literally what their own movie told them what you shouldn't do with LEGOs.
The Lego Movie is seriously one of the best things ever made. (that is indeed a pun, since you "make" things with Lego.) levels upon levels of morals, absolute masterpiece.
the 2nd movie was just a cash-in. they tried to make the story worthy of the first one, and I want to say it was a decent attempt (it could have been a lot worse) but it was an impossible task, since the first one was so epic-ly good.
I don't know, specifically, what the new story could be, but I feel it's time for a 3rd movie. that movie would never get made, simply because the LEGO COMPANY themselves have become the villain from the first movie. and the whole world is the little child begging for salvation. (maybe Will Farrell could be the Hero of that movie? he'd yell at the Lego exec "I used to BE you!")

I worked for the Lego Store in my City for two years (2021-2023) and watched the downfall in real time. Then I started frequenting Lego markets and realized that used Lego can still be cheap if you know where to look.
Case in point, two years ago I got the Mach II Red Bird Rig (5591) for €85 and just a month ago I got the Magic Flash (5581) for €40, both with instructions and just a few parts missing.
You got no idea how weird it is to have built modern sets for the last five years and just now realizing how hard they held your hand, pic related.

Haven't posted here for a few years. What do /toy/soldiers think of Chinese lego knockoffs? Recently ordered the Batman Gotham diorama and that Star Wars Falcon kit that gets used by this one SF autist to make a bunch of awesome customs, planning to put together pic related.
I live in Korea, where lego is somehow EVEN MORE expensive than in Europe, so I thought I'd give chink plastic a go. Anyone have any experience with it?

Guys, I can’t take it anymore. LEGO releases way too many sets at once, and their production life is ridiculously short. How am I supposed to know which set I want when I’m on a budget and new ones keep coming out nonstop? By the time I finally save enough money for a set, it retires, and then boom, the price skyrockets on the secondhand market. It’s incredibly unfair. LEGO produces way too much product, and I honestly can’t keep up anymore. Anyone else feel the same way?

I just did the same as you and built the Ebon Hawk this guy did with a bootleg falcon set. It looks awesome, but it took ages as the falcon set is 80% tiny pieces that take ages to find. The only real complaints I have is that a few parts are a bit loose (either cause of how it's built or due to them being bootlegs) and 2 4 width parts were replaced with 1 width parts which was a bit confusing.

Are we gonna get more Simpsons sets? I'm on the fence on getting the krusty burger, like I wanna know, will we get more? Like their house? I was a kid when they released the first sets in 2014 and didn't have money then and the price on aftermarket are insane.

Space has become more of an issue rather than money. There are a fuckton of sets I want to and can buy but have to make a hard choice which ither set to put away or sell, otherwise I'll end up like one of those dorks that display Lego even in their bathroom.
Also what sets are you wanting to buy that has their price skyrocket so much? Even Star Wars nowadays doesn't see that much price increase a few years after retirement. The community being flooded with "investirs" means the will be high supply of almost every set that retires. I'm still seeing listings of sets that retired 3 years ago at market price.

hah! funny you mention that, I also skipped that lame set expecting them to re-issue her in another set sometime...
c'mon, Lego. Knuckles has been in a couple of sets, why not Rogue?
(yes I said "Rogue" since it's obvious they typo'd her name and had to double-down with a "t-that's what we meant! Rouge is a word, too!" Rogue the Bat is clearly the intent, as she is a rogue-type character and the rest of them have simple cool names. it's Knuckles, not Knockles for example)

I've never heard them "officially" tell that story, but it's so obvious that it must be true.
nobody knows "rouge" /ro͞oZH/ - noun -
a red powder or cream used as a cosmetic for coloring the cheeks or lips.
especially kids. kids know what a rogue is.
it's even hard to say, or even glance at the word and know it's -supposed- to be Roooozzhh instead of "Rogue"

>that one guy is going to be furious they never got around to making [I'm too lazy to look up an obscure character's name]!!!
Honestly, I don't care anymore. The global elite is committing crimes and getting away with it scot free, Lego not making obscure Sonic characters is the least of our problems.
>Knuckles has been in a couple of sets, why not Rogue?
Rouge isn't a kid friendly character. She's best known from the furry porn and being the furry awakening for an entire generation of kids. Literally every character has been rereleased by now, except for her.

Sega is making new Sonic characters:
-Sonic the Hedgehog (sonic is a speed word)
-Tails the Fox (two tails for his helicopter move)
-Knuckles the Echidna (knuckles because he's tough and punches)
-Rogue the Bat (because she's the sneaky rogue thief)
whoops did we mis-spell Rogue? who was the idiot that put "Rouge" in the instruction book? can't they spell? spell check didn't flag it? b-but boss, rouge is a word, too. it's like a blush thing girls put on their cheeks. y-yeah, that's what we meant all along! people will believe that, right?

it's confusing, but easy to ignore
someone posts "leaks" here:
--that someone might be a Lego Employee (trying to viral-advertise) I think people call that "shill"? which is frowned upon because of the manipulative tones
--the leak poster might also just want genuine discussion about the upcoming products
of course, you can't argue with the conspiracy theory, as any "I"M NOT A LEGO EMPLOYEE! TRYING TO MANIPULATE INTEREST IN OUR er.... THE... PRODUCT!!!" because that's exactly what a Lego Employee would say.
and there's a white knight trying to yell at the leak poster guy, convinced we are being manipulated into consoooming (!!!)
I think that's the gist of it?
I usually ignore it, as I do like discussing the new upcoming stuff, I personally don't mind seeing the "leak" pics here
>>
>>
>>11705419
It's not shills we are a lot more subtle than that and dont like to cause drama because it makes it too obvious.
By the way that's a cute frog though what set is it from I'd love to buy one or two. Itd make a perfect gift for my nieces! :)
>>
>>
>>
>>11705347
Lego "leaks" are not actual leaks and are just viral marketing. They follow the exact same pattern every time of gradual "leaks" starting with just the price, then set number, then name, then blurry images of the set or a minifigure, then a close up of an incomplete minifigure, then blurry images of the box, and finally "leaked" full resolution images of the set that conveniently always drop a week or so before the "official reveal." "The Frenchman" is the guy who spams out new threads as soon as the current one hits the post limit, contrary to the etiquette of general boards. Some people believe him to be a Lego employee or otherwise some kind of shill, but I think he's probably just genuinely autistic.

>Animal Crossing fans still had it worse
I'm 100% convinced character choice is based on the designer's personal favorites
no surveys, no top % from polls, no Nintendo recommendations, no "iconic property representatives", no data collection of any kind.
the designer plays the game, and is like
"Julian is my favorite! we have to include that guy!"
it's cringe, but I can't blame them. if I could be in that position, all my neighbors would have been in Lego sets already. I'd be happy with just one of 'em. How about Reneigh? Lucy? I think Lego can do Tiffany and Tammy with existing molds. y'know just in case the Lego Employee is reading this

I mean it's possible it's fake yes, but Lego did just release a $1000 set, it's entirely possible they are really just going to do massively expensive sets like this now and it doesn't look that fake to me, it's entirely possible it's real.

>but Lego did just release a $1000 set, it's entirely possible they are really just going to do massively expensive sets like this now
we already did the kindergarten math on that:
there are approx 1000 The Lego Stores
if EACH store only sells ONE $1000 set, that's still $1000 X 1000 = $1,000,000
so for each set each store sells, it's a million dollars. there's at least one fool per store willing to get anything Lego slops out. ANYTHING, ANY PRICE.
Lego is invincible at this point

I actually like that AT RT set, but that's like a $25 set, not a $45 Jesus. At that price, it should have come with like, 4 of those minifigures.
The 327th clone trooper battle pack was also $45 and it had four clone troopers, three droids, and two builds. That Mando set swapped basically all the minifigures out for a turret instead of the spider droid...

Julian is such a weird choice since afaik he's the only unicorn villager. I'm not surprised they used him again in a polybag though as the birthday set he came with is one of the worst ones and they probably wanted to get more use out of his head mold.
I'm just glad I got lucky and 2 of my favs (Lily and Goldie) were in the latest wave.

picking Julian as a character is the clue that reveals their character picks are based on personal favorites. as the shape of that horse head could have been used for multiple different horse characters if they removed the horn from it.
it's not unheard of for Lego to re-mold molds plus-or-minus bits, there have been a couple hair pieces that are copy-pasted with hats added, for example, but starting WITH the horn (Julian is the ONLY unicorn character) is a "choice" of picking the unique character vs logical useful-ness
Ankha has a similar "snake shape" in the middle of her head, but Lego chose to make a generic cat head mold instead. the little hat-hole is up too far on the head to make a little snake piece "look" right, they would need to re-mold the cat head with the snake bit added. but if ANHKA was somebody's favorite, they would have done it.
sorry for so much text that was a little complicated, hope you enjoyed the blog post

>I'm not surprised they used him again in a polybag though as the birthday set he came with is one of the worst ones and they probably wanted to get more use out of his head mold.
yeah Julian is giving "clues" about Lego choices. but I'm not sure exactly what conclusions to make out of him
did Lego over-produce existing heads? (we have 2,000,000 extra heads we printed! shrug, just make a polybag to get rid of them)
or did they always plan on the polybag, and over-produced Julian heads, on purpose, years ago? the choice of the lowest-cost-set character maintains aftermarket value for all the other characters they could have double-used (?)
did the Lego designer desire their favorite character be pushed harder? (nobody bought Julian's Birthday?? c'mon, we put that guy in the least-expensive set!! argh, let's try again with a polybag. everyone should have my favorite!)
or a similar push (like you said) well, we can't use this Unicorn mold for anything else, might as well re-use it for a polybag (but why not use a re-colored cat, or dog, or... anything else???)

New lego theme codename "M":
43028 $30
43029 $40
43030 $80
43031 $120
Usually the sets that start with "4..." are either 4+ or minidoll themes. I wonder if these are 4+ sets for Minions and Monsters or Spongebob. Or perhaps Netflix Narnia minidoll sets? Any guesses?

I'd like to think there's enough Disney characters that they can "waste" some of them in a CMF, just like they wasted all the Spider-Mans with a CMF and you know they could have had each one of those in a $70 set to go along with [insert random Spider-Man variant]

Not that furfriend, but the “funny animals” “genre” of cartoons has been ubiquitous in animation since at least the 1910s, and the genre predates animation in other media like comics, storybooks, literature, etc.
But while there’s a long tradition of funny animal media, I’m not sure when the desire to fuck the funny animals arose.

They have so many cool pieces for spaceships, terrains and large figures and also the Nintendo partnership so it'd be cool if Lego Metroid was a thing. Like a buildable Metroid with articulating talons, or Ridley with fabric wings. Or they could make scenes like Samus' landing spot on planet from whichever game you prefer, or her vs Mother Brain or that showdown with Ridley in lower Norfair from Super. Just not other M.

There's almost TOO MUCH they need to do for Star Trek, kinda like with Animal Crossing. they could do 4 Star Trek sets, twice a year, and it would still take a decade to give you that "AH! My Favorite Episode!!!" set
but if I had to pick something else?
I don't know... Genshin Impact? it's like, the most profitable gatcha game isn't it? it's got a good story and some cool characters. sure. let's go with that. the only bad part about it is the dumb title with nonsense words. (what is a Genshin? Impact what?... it does make it easy to Google though)

Yea... they really need to stop trying to push that piece count limit. Just because you CAN have 4k pieces doesn't mean you have to, but it is probably due to people wanting the ability to toss in 14 minifigures (yes there is a minifig to part ratio).
And the bricklink designer program is a limited run anyways, so "buying multiples" isn't really a thing when the campaigns are max 2 iirc. But castles biggest hurdle is making small sets anyways.

As a previous mod on a HUGE Lego site like 25 years ago, I can say Lego itself absolutely are the biggest leakers. Yeah, you'll get like a Dutch catalog scan early or something, but... it's almost always Lego. It's super funny to me to see they're STILL making people on fan boards like this go, "OMG, DON'T POST the LEAKS!"... while it's exactly the frenzied action they want people to feel. It's 95% just Lego engaging in publicity stunts lol. Back when I was a mod, I would find a way to leak everything anonymously, just because it was all so fake and gay and on purpose anyway.
