I rarely see anyone posting pics or info about these
there sure is something magical about the VF-1 seeing how many renditions has had over the years

I have 2 of the Robo-dous. They are great.
>>
>>11719786
that is mostly because the price point entry of the shittiest valk nowdays is 150 bucks, way above what most people are willing to shell for a toy
kitzconcept, three zero and now something called unix square shat their own abominations, pic related
imo the yamato/arcadia mold is the best one, but they have become so scarce their price is also ridiculous to the point they enter the range of Bandai's DX prices, which is hands down the best rendition of the vf-1 so far
I just wish they would hurry up and release it in the brown cannon fodder colors

I really want ti get into Macross toys, but have no idea where to start for cheap. Everything seems too expensive. I don't even care about transformation, just want a good mech and plane with legs. What would be the most entry-level-friendly figures?

Bandai and Kaiyodo design better transforming planes than Hasbro and Takara do. The planes look like planes, and not "planes on top, folded-up robot on bottom."

there is also the HG kits as a cheap option

I got 2 DX vf1, the one that comes with the heavy armor and the dyrl hikaru one, for which I got the missile and super parts
they are a joy to handle but yeah, hyper expensive as fuck
always hoped to get the Max one but the demented prices are insane and I'm still waiting for the mass production recolor

the Robodou line is respectable and relatively affordable(in a world where 6 inch Japanese lines are reaching $100 as a base price, at least). wince at the Robotech connection if you must, Threezero does a good job imitating other company's engineering for much cheaper and decent quality.
I always wished Macross had a retail transformers midsize-lowprice option at the expense of high quality. something like Voyager (or I guess Leader sized now) Transformers, an update to the 80's/90's toys that were nicely engineered but still toys. The High Metal stuff is your alternative but it's still collectors pieces that will prioritize swappable parts instead of wholly complete transformations, and are of course smaller size figures as well.

you just need to build them yourself and be okay with heavy partsforming

these kits are partsformers, think like a HG Zeta and about the same size

bandai once tried their hand at fully transforming plamos from the original macross valks, frontier and delta, but they were notorious for being extremely flimsy and requiring tons of extra work for proper lineart/animation accuracy

You can get the hi-metals for well under a hundred dollars now. they go on sale all the time via amazon. Even the DX figures drop below $100 on occassion.
Ever since Macross was allowed to be officially sold globally the prices have declined a lot.
figures that cost me $300 years ago I can get for $200

>I rarely see anyone posting pics or info about these
It took a long time but I got tired of the valkyrie toy cycle. It is as follows:
>valkyrie is announced
>Idiots like me buy it
>that money is used to release a more desirable version of that same valkyrie
>this tanks the value of the original one
>people who bought the first one just got fucked in the ass.
>the smart move is to never buy the first version
>but if nobody bought the first version, the "good" version would never get released.
I'm over it. They're nice toys but I hate the way the market works.

unfortunately not wrong, these toys seem to usually have engineering failures somewhere that it takes a reissue to fix, plus they always manage to make the accessories or paint better on the updated version

With the yamatos/arcadias they were portrayed as a small, struggling company and if you didn't buy their stuff they're gonna go out of business and maybe that was true to some extent since they really did go out of business and were reborn as arcadia but still they never once missed an opportunity to fuck me with versions that had improved paint jobs. If you ever bought a yamato/arcadia valk on release you got fucked 100% of the time.
So then bandai comes along and you think oh it's fucking bandai a multi billion dollar corporation we don't have to put up with this shit anymore and bandai does the exact same fucking thing with the frontier valks.

whoever bought the first DX valks from frontier got gigascammed considering how shitty they were all
>>

You may want to consider another grail it's not a particularly good valkyrie or toy in my opinion. The backpack on it is awful and lazy. The fragile tailfins just hang out the bottom waiting to get snapped off and there's a perfectly good tailfin-sized cavity they could have folded up into but apparently nobody cared enough to do that.

Thanks I've got more recent pictures with more modern valks in the collection but can't find them anywhere. If anyone saved them I'd appreciate a repost.

wat about the model kits? I know there are plenty of manufacturers and I'm thinking of getting a plamax battroid kit, the Max one, but I can't find any reviews of it
only some pics show the parts at least come molded in white and blue plastic
>>
>>
>>11721147
Are these easy to build like Gundams or do they require paint?
>be okay with heavy partsforming
Honestly, I don't even care if they transform, I just want a good Gerwalk figure. Fighter and Battroid are a nice bonus, but not required.
>>
>>11724260
They are easy to build but as You can see >>11721304 here it needs a Lot of details, reason why this kit gives You a large sheet of waterslide decals
Imo the Best gerwalk modes are those of the original vf-1 and the 25 but there are not many plamos of those
>>
>>11724260
a minor correction on what anon said here >>11724276 the kit comes with a sticker sheet for the markings and wing stripes, the water slide sheet is sold separately
the pictures in the schizophonic9 review here >>11721304 show the kit without any stickers, paint, or decals so some parts are colored by the parts but there will be areas missing the right color
>>
>>11724260
>Honestly, I don't even care if they transform, I just want a good Gerwalk figure. Fighter and Battroid are a nice bonus, but not required.
that's kinda funny because the Gerwalk mode only exists as a result of the transforming figure demonstration not working properly and falling into an inbetween mode during presentation

Look I get it but honestly? The HG deal has had no effect on my life or getting into Macross. A rotten deal sure, but most of these figures are unlikely to be imported because of how niche they are, only the model kits and smaller size figures I'm not as interested in.
I've been watching downloaded subs for decades and have been importing toys for well over 15 years now.
Apparently the prices have gone down on the Bandai stuff as they're more readily available to be imported so that's a bonus. I don't really see it affecting the Arcadia prices much though. On the other hand, the HG loophole allowing Threezero to produce figures like this for under $200 is also a bonus I'd say.

pic related of what I'm aiming for, as the DX chogokin figure is stupidly expensive
>>
>>11724860
Fine. There's always the dollars argument but the HG thing really boils down to whether you support evil or not. In the toy world it really doesn't get more evil than HG. These fuckers are so evil they literally tried to trademark "macross" in JAPAN. if everyone who was ever involved with the HG legal shenanigans dropped dead the world would be a better place.
