I would not complain if Hasbro went back to this scale. At least we got a bigger variety of vehicles and at lower prices. The only vehicle Super7 produced was the Cobra mothership, and that failed to get crowd-funded.
>>
>>11723976
>>11723977
That tank was such a nice vehicle. Not perfect, and there's plenty of things I'd love to mod on it, but they put so much detail into it and the whole thing just looks and feels fantastic.

>>11723990
I don't know about lower prices, that tank was like $80 when it came out and that was long before prices collectively shot to the moon. The Slave 1 was about $150 and that's pretty comparable in size to the Classified HISS tank, which the Arctic version goes for about $200, so not too huge a difference.

Maybe the smaller stuff would be cheaper, but the good, large vehicles are always gonna be expensive.
>>
>>11724172
>Maybe the smaller stuff would be cheaper
if classified was in the old scale, everyone would be complaining that the standard figures are 20 dollars each and the faces would all look worse
very little about the discourse would change other than having more vehicles and figure multi-packs but I could never go back to ugly baroness figures again
>>
>>11724323
>I could never go back to ugly baroness figures again
They only got ONE right since the 1984 original (Rattler). That's a sad track record. Well Rattler Baroness, Snow Cat Lady Jaye, and Zanya have attractive faces, so hopefully we're in the light at the end of that long dark tunnel.

Oh fucking hell no. GI Joe just doesn't work in any live-action format. It comes across as goody "Star Wars tech" but on earth. And general audiences just don't give a shit about all the constant ninja cutaway scenes.

I think they could probably do some cool episodic movies about specific joes vs. specific cobras, but they'll just want to do an overstuffed avengers knockoff
off the top of my head, and it might be controversial, but I'd start with cover girl getting recruited into the joes when she's doing her modeling shit and ends up accidentally discovering zarana is one of the other models and has plans to hold billionaire fashion executives hostage with a bunch of the other dreadnoks and it would be sort of an action comedy version of atomic blonde
it would at least be something different, and you could just do that with any of them except fucking Snake Eyes because they clearly couldn't resist making him Asian again
>>
>>11724793
Yea, bringing in a known rapist to helm a GI Joe movie is gonna be worse than having SE with his helmet off and talking. Danny's I would watch though.
>>
>>11724817
One of the better G.I.Joe t.v. series was Strike Back and I think that it would work well like that with a rotating focus on Joe teams. The episodes would be mostly self contained but might have bits of an ongoing arc or two.
Anyone who played with Joes is old and I'm sure they wouldn't mind a bit of "adult" content. Holy shit, look at the Predator, Alien and Rambo toys that were sold. Only Chad and Karen might protest - but nostalgia (or the desire to complain about the show) would suck them in.
>>
>>11724865
>Anyone who played with Joes is old and I'm sure they wouldn't mind a bit of "adult" content.
Metal Gear Solid filled that void.

>>11724817
It would certainly be a choice to make a G.I. Joe film that centers around a female character, I can already see rightoids having a fit over that idea. Cover Girl would probably even be their best bet, but only on the condition that she gets to actually drive some sort of tank. If she ain't behind the stick of some heavily armored equipment then she ain't being Covergirl.

>>11724865
The fact that to most people "adult" just means gore, boobs and dirty words is exactly why G.I. Joe shouldn't be aiming for the "adult" audiences. The cartoonish characters are the most endearing part of G.I. Joe, if you start getting "real" and "gritty" and "adult" with it you're just walking away from the thing that made the franchise great.

I don't want G.I. Joe to be "adult", I want it to be good.

>I don't want G.I. Joe to be "adult", I want it to be good.
G.I.Joe was the epic parachute-out-of-the-explosion plane, guns everywhere but nobody actually gets shot, A-Team-level kinda-gunfights. I'd be perfectly happy with that kind of wholesome non-violence. there's no way modern Hollywood could pull that off though.

did they ever do a live-action Serpentor? that whole bit would make a pretty cool movie, it's already a done-story. monuments, history, tech. oh no the villains win and make Serpentor, defeat him anyway with clever tactics, it writes itself.

>>11724793
how does two people write two scripts work? does that sound insane? is that like a The Love Boat episode where they flop between the A story and the B story?

they don't need another movie, they need a Netflix series. episodes. "I am the Viper..."
>>
>>11725283
All I'm gonna say is that the Submarine Dog Fight sequence at the end of RoC was the most G.I. Joe thing ever put to live action film and if we got more of that and less brainwashed lover interest sister Baroness I'd be very happy.

And they haven't done Serpentor yet, but he's very easily a "Third Film" villain, starting your franchise with him would pretty much be saying you don't want your films to be successful.

>how does two people write two scripts work? does that sound insane?

The idea of competeing script writers, or even having one finish the script and a second come after and "doctor" it up is completely normal for hollywood. The most absurd part of what they're doing is having two people write scripts and then they plan to *combine the two*. That's just a recipe for disaster and shows they have no idea what they're doing with this movie.
>>
>>11725289
I generally liked Retaliation more that Rise of Cobra, but both movies did need more big epic battles with lots of vehicles involved.

And yes, Serpentor is a 'threat escalation' villain, it doesn't make any sense to start out with him, and we've never gotten beyond a second movie. Rise of Cobra had Cobra getting formed, Retaliation was their first big scheme. You either need to reach a point where Cobra Commander has failed several times and the other important Cobras want to replace him, or you go with the comic origin where Serpentor starts as a super-soldier project and Cobra Commander doesn't realize the implications of combining the DNA of history's greatest leaders until it's too late.

The obvious end to that movie would be the Joes helping enable a Cobra Civil War and letting Cobra Commander sabotage Serpentor's scheme, if both survive, Cobra schisms into two more manageable factions, and potentially Destro walks away to start the Iron Grenadiers.
>>
>>11724865
I just watch military shows for that. Obviously Hasbro is scared to make adult stuff for GI Joe and want mainstream money like the Transformers bring them. we wont get a serious Ninja/World Terrorists with crazy Snake Themed Weapons/Delta Force GI Joe movie that is like Strike Back. if we scale back on the wackiness then its not really GI Joe anymore. I dont want cartoonish stuff only, but the two movies were about as far as we'd get in terms of seriousness.

That just seems to be the MO for Hasbro movies. The last fee transformers movies, aside from Transformers One, have been disasters cobbled together from multiple scripts being bashed together. The fifth transformers movie is such a mess, it was made from like six different scripts all with ideas that don't go together, and it's painfully apparent while watching.

Can't wait for the same thing to happen to G.I. Joe!

I hated Retaliation none of the characters were G.I. Joes, they were generic army men. The Rock just played The Rock, Flint did nothing and Lady Jaye, a master of disguise, had her disguise be a fancy dress. And then they pull in "Joe Colton" and it's the literal baldest man on the planet.

Cobra was great, I loved how Cobra Commander just had a swagger about him the entire time. The bumbling snake of the cartoons just wouldn't work in film, so CC having some charisma and confidence was a nice touch. Only thing about Cobra I didn't like was not recasting Zartan, I know he was in disguise the whole time, but having him drop it for the action scene at least would've been nice.

But yea, if they ever do Serpentor, I'd prefer the Comic version. Making Cobra revolt against CC because he keeps failing really killed him as an antagonist in the cartoons. Having that arc spin off into a Cobra Civil War movie would be sweet.

>>11725346
Joe needs to ride that line between silly and serious. If it can't do that it'll never catch on.

>>11725377
I ordered a small turret piece for the Vamp and that took about a month. 3D printing stuff like that takes time, especially if it's a bigger item.

That said, getting that one piece put me off getting any more. Not because it's bad quality mind you, it's probably one of the nicest 3D prints I've seen. But it's still very clearly 3D printed, and having a whole vehicle like that would annoy me to no end.

>I hated Retaliation none of the characters were G.I. Joes, they were generic army men.
You make some fair points on the Joes and Zartan, in particular The Rock and Bruce Willis were just playing their usual screen personas. Lady Jaye's disguises may have been weak compared with the disguises she uses in the comics and cartoons, but there are other reasons to appreciate her movie wardrobe in those scenes. It's mainly the Cobra stuff and the ninja fight (dialogue-free, like a silent issue comic) that I liked it for.

>But yea, if they ever do Serpentor, I'd prefer the Comic version. Making Cobra revolt against CC because he keeps failing really killed him as an antagonist in the cartoons.
In fairness, cartoon Cobra Commander was that guy the rest of Cobra's high command openly disliked and most of them had already tried overthrowing him at least once, only for the status quo to return by the end of the story, so them finally having had enough of him after 50+ consecutive failures wasn't implausible, and he was frequently the direct cause of their defeats. Changing the internal power dynamics of Cobra shook things up and refreshed the show. Putting Cobra Commander into the Starscream role is a little on the nose given they shared the same voice actor, but it's not exactly the same as he's the former leader trying to get his old job back.

I like both versions of Serpentor, but doing the comic version means you'd need an actor who's not just tall and jacked enough for the role, but also maxed out his charisma stats.
>>
>>11725746
I'm okay with having to get two and doing some headswaps so they stay away from hasbro's legal department, but putting that helmet with the Legionnaire was just pure shit. Especially since that's the one guy you can't turn into a generic red shadow trooper wtih the wolf skin poking through the uniform in places. I passed on it and will live without the helmet.

It's basically Baroness from a non canon acid trip Joe/TF crossover mini who took over Cobra with Destro's help after CC was left for dead after disfiguring Snakr Eyes presumed dead at the start of the mini.

It came out around the time the woketards at IDW also had Baroness as CC (wearing his hood) in the main GI Joe comic after they got rid of the Asian guy who took over as CC after chuckles killed the original one, off camera as far as forced synergy.

Searching the archive here and on Reddit it looks like most people use crates or something like a paper clip box or other office supplies painted or with cobra decals, etc. to store excess weapons. And it looks like most people dump weapons in baggies instead of desperately?
Was thinking just sorting so all knives in one bag, etc. And then all in one plastic tub?
And I guess I should take them out every six/twelve months over the plasticizer issue, or is that just painted stuff, like heads, not plastic which is black or gray out of the mold, like most weapons are?
>>
>>11726763
you air out the bag or box for any plasticizer issues. Leave it open for a couple of hours and then close it up.

7 different figures, all uniquely molded, and it's not even a dent of the variety of figures that GI Joe had in the 80s.
And despite there being 7 different figures, their theme fits together as an urban assault team.
You can see a story going on in a compact space!

It's soulful AND high budget.

Whereas today they just redeco a Viper, give him a few transparent accessories, call him paranormal, and charge you a premium for that. Budget as fuck.

You could do this exact shot with classified, using alley vipers, crimson vipers, two stingers or whatever, etc. and the only difference would be the space
>Whereas today they just redeco a Viper, give him a few transparent accessories, call him paranormal, and charge you a premium for that. Budget as fuck.
plus the 10 other vipers that are unique
are you suggesting flat palette swap figures are exclusive to classified?
and I would've preferred if the ghost viper WAS just a neon green retro viper with a skull painted on the helmet, I don't really give a shit about the extra crap or the new pieces
are you really that same fag who once posted that pic of 3.75 inch cobras having a meeting with 3.75 in red skull and shit and you acted like that wasn't possible with classified and I made the exact same pic with classified and marvel legends 15 minutes later?
>>
>>11727174
A full Classified HISS crew alone has six uniquely sculpted figures, all in matching color scheme. ARAH had plenty of part reuse and recolors, especially in latter years, but it had the advantage of coming out during one of the largest toy booms in recorded history so they could toss out tons of new figures constantly. I love me some ARAH stuff, and I have a decently large ME 1:18 collection, but Classified is probably some of the best per figure Joes we've ever gotten, it's certainly a quality over quantity situation. The larger sculpt makes each figure far more detailed and impressive to look at, they don't need numbers to make a kick ass display as each figure alone is a work of art (except that first Falcon, he was shit).

This pic >>11727174 is a perfect example of what's wrong with 1:18 displays. Without tons of accessories and dio pieces and vehicles and playsets, the figures just come off as stiff and boring and are hard to make out unless you get super close. If this were a 1:12 display, you could use less and get a greater effect. It would make better use of he space, have better visual draw and not feel nearly as stiff as those figures look.
