there's a new subline (sub-subline?) for CX that basically splits the blade into two. I'm kinda on the fence about it cause I thought one of the big appeals of X was the simplicity but I felt the same way about initial CX and it won me over eventually too so who knows.
I know BX and UX have something similar coming too but I forget what BX's gimmick is. I think UX has the ratchet built in to the blade (as opposed to the bit like with pegasus/emperor)

my little brother is graduating elementary school this year and finally at the age that he's into beys. Is this a nice assortment to start him off? any suggestions?

seems like a solid starting collection. Keep in mind that arena comes with only one blade (and a gripper for the launcher) instead of two blades (with no grips) like most other arena sets. Other than that maybe just prod a bit to see if there's any particular bey themes he'd be interested in (dragons, wizards, samurai, knights etc.) and get him something specifically tailored to his tastes.
Only other thing I can think to suggest is the customize set just to give more options. Or maybe not, one of the parts in it is Metal Needle which has a reputation for tearing holes in arenas.

Honestly it kind of sucks that we're just getting this now, because I kind of wish that CX had been the standard line from the start and this was the "more customized" version, since blade+ratchet+bit felt just a bit TOO simple as the basic line to me, and then with the couple of integrated bit/ratchet pieces we had it took it down to 2 fucking parts, and now we're getting even more of that with the integrate blade/ratchets, and that just means even more parts that aren't compatible with a bunch of stuff which feels retarded.

Shark and Waffle sets are both solid choices with heavily meta parts included, the stadium set is kind of a ripoff for what you're getting unless you really really want the recolor of a bey that we don't even know whether it'll be good or not yet, you could just grab him a stadium plus pegasus blast for cheaper and have a confirmed top tier blade that comes with the smoothest winder TT makes, and throw in a WizRod for fun so he has everything he needs to make a full cancerous meta deck.

I just learned that these have metal in them, is it safe to pour money into (and have the expectation that they can be replaced, look forwards to releases, potentially find other players) or am I late to the party (I have to emphasize, not an investorfag, just broke).

Depending on where you are, it should be pretty safe as long as you've got locals you can play with, so I'd say you should check into that first.
>is it safe to pour money into
Within reason sure, there's a decent number of meta staples that are readily available like soar phoenix, wizard rod, cobalt dragoon, and golem rock you can pretty much always find either at your local target/walmart, or on the official amazon store for hasbro releases. They also just recently dropped some big stuff as hasbro releases like shark scale, but getting one of those is difficult at the moment because they sell out as soon as they're in stock, but that should calm down soonish hopefully. You can also try checking at local discount clearance stores like Ross, 5Below, or Ollie's if you've got them, as sometimes you can find really cheap stuff there that didn't sell at normal stores.
>and have the expectation that they can be replaced
See above, availability for stuff is generally pretty good outside of big meta releases just after they've come out in the west, so if you need to replace things it's usually not too difficult.
>look forwards to releases
This one is trickier, hasbro a fuck so if you really want to keep up with new stuff as it comes out you're looking at importing takara tomy stuff from somewhere like beysandbricks or malloftoys, otherwise it's a complete crapshoot when or if hasbro will release things. They MIGHT be getting slightly better about that in the near future based on some big recent release announcements and the fact that TT is getting pissed at how badly they're mishandling the game in the west, but it's all just speculation right now.
>potentially find other players
Definitely depends on where you are for sure, but the competitive scene is getting pretty big over here these days, so look into what might be around you. Try to find somewhere that's running events and talk to the people there about what there is.

>I think it's just not for me
Some blades are like that. Stuff that's objectively S-tier, but just doesn't suit you no matter how good you are. Personal preference and comfortability plays a big role in this game

I'm not too broken up about it, just means I don't have to go buying a bunch of fucking drop attack sets every time a hover decides to explode during a tournament. I like shark scale better as an attacker anyway.
