McFarlane Toys is reducing their points of articulation for new articulated figure lines like the NHL line. Your thoughts?

So, mcfarlane can do proportions right.

No company should be attempting to even sell figures to collectors if they don't have pinless joints and face printing. The likenesses are not there on any of their figures.
>>
>>11723903
Even with all the joints in the world, McFarlane's stuff felt like crap to move. It's better for him at least to have less joints if it means better sculpt.

............but looking at that pic, it seems we're getting the worse of both options.
>>

The headsculpt looks especially garish. It seems like they just put out training sculpts for new sculptors as finished products.

I don't think most of the people willing to buy these care about super articulation, I really don't think there is that much overlap between the action figure collector community and average sports memorabilia fans

Beyond the horrid headsculpts. No deco on sticks and skates, and no visor really holds these back. Their statues have them. I guess kids wouldn't care about those things.
>>
I see why you're concerned, but relatively speaking these are actually more articulated than most his sports figures.
>>
>>11724098
I thought he only did statues before now of sports stuff, or maybe like a couple swivels at the arm to be a staction with a couple possible poses.

Hockey has the smallest sport fanbase in North America so seeing it get actual articulated figures is just a strange choice to me
>>
>>11724192
Because re-use is the easiest. Everyone is fully covered, no tattoos or any exposed skin to deal with, everyone looks like they have the same build under all those pads, etc.

But holy hell these look cheap. The sculpts look so damn soft and the paints on the faces is horrible.

>>11724185
They will get like one or two cut joints that almost seem to be a result of construction, if anything.

don't know if its still the case, but years ago the sports stuff wasn't even made in-house by mcfarlane. they just brought it to market from some other company, like a hasbro/takara thing

>why doesn’t McFarlane make some NFL guys on his shitty DC buck?
lol this was just a few weeks ago. Todd lurks, confirmed.
baby steps I guess. I hate hockey but I’m not surprised a Canadian would choose that first. in all honesty, he could do exactly what I suggested—use his DC body for NFL players—and they would be the best sports figures ever made, that’s how low the bar is here

You mean they're finally giving their sports lines joints already? What took them so goddamn long?

Depends on the overall figure aesthetics. I personally don't like my figures to be too visually chopped-up, and do appreciate it when efforts are made to make a figure look visually clean. Hasbro has made some modest efforts with Classified with concealing those fuck-ugly torso joints underneath vests and jackets, so they're getting what I'm saying.

And since I am not a kid playing with stuff in the backyard I don't care about "maximum posability." I don't display my stuff either. So I don't give a shit about how many POA a figure has as long as it's visually clean.

The Japanese figures are the worst when it comes to figures that over-articulated to where they're just a visually-chopped-up mess. Every "human" figure looks like a cyborg because of it. They make zero efforts to produce a visually-clean figure.

Now if only McTodd would do something about concealing rivets. And even in plastic form Crosby still looks like a fag. They could have done a better job at blending in those ugly shoulder and elbow joints with more detailed jersey texturing and ruffles.

>McFarlane's stuff felt like crap to move.
It's less fragile than the NECA stuff. You don't need to delicately pull it out of the blister, boil it in water, and send it to the Dalai Lama and the Pope for a blessing only for a limb to bust off the moment you try moving a joint, then to get told by NECA that it's a collector item so it's your fault for taking it out of the box.

Todd LOVES hockey as much as he loves baseball.

It's still relatively cheap. It's a decent figure. I have one with no real complaints.
>>
>>11724764
It's cheap enough for you to get one and feel no guilt at all when ripping open a figure that's over a quarter-century old. That's exactly what I did when I bought it a little before last Thanksgiving. I regret nothing.
>>
>>11724791
And you got the rattler.
Man you've got cooler toys than me lol. I'm honestly thinking it over, I may need a few beers to help me think.
>>
>>11724792
I don't have the Rattler. I couldn't afford it. I only got the Baroness from it, and even that hurt the wallet to get it as every seller at the time wanted $150 for it. They're selling them now for the $120 area, which doesn't help me save a few bucks now.
>>
It isn't looking too great from McFarlane Toys' recent figure announcements.
>>
>>11724325
So they outsourced the design AND manufacture? Well that's...one business model I guess.
>>
>>11724889
Those Kubrick-style figures look alright to me.
>>
I got one. The articulation was a little better than I expected. The stick and two hockey pucks are super small. I'm probably gonna just get one more. I don't need all of them. Maybe a goalie if they make one.
>>
>>11724797
Oh yeah, I sadly had to pass the rattler myself. At least you've got a good looking baroness out of it, I've got 3 versions of her and the best one is the coil bike version.
>>11727087
How are the legs? Multiverse figures don't have a lot of leg articulation and it kinda sucks.
>>
>>11727095
The hips have pretty good range in all directions. The crotch is soft so is the jersey. There's a thigh swivel hidden at the bottom of the shorts. Single jointed knee and then another swivel at the top of the skate. The ankles don't move at all, but that's actually pretty accurate if you've ever had tight hockey skates on.
>>
>>
>>11727087
It's surprising they are already shipping out
>>
>>11727120
They got all of them on Amazon.
