Lots of art museums, Van Gogh, Rembrandt etc.
If you want to be forever put off the idea of prostitution being a good thing go to the red light and take in the smells...
There is Anne Franks house but I mean, it's just a house with an ugly facade.
Haarlem is 30 minutes away by public transport and has a pretty cathedral/town center and you can cycle to the beach from there. Zandvoort race track is also nearby if that's your thing.

My opinion of the Netherlands was that the cities were meh but the "countryside" was very pretty and quaint. I did go in summer though.

For some reason it never even occurred to me that Van Gogh and Rembrandt were Dutch kek I'll be sure to check there paintings out, thanks anon. RL district has always seemed repulsive to me but its one of those things you have to at least see once

The Rijksmuseum is kino.

Do a tasting at De Drie Fleschjes. Go grab a beer at Cafe Gollem Raamsteeg. The Basilica of Saint Nicholas was free to enter and was super impressive. The Van Gogh Museum sells out almost every day, so get tickets if you're planning on doing it.

It's a boring city, and a boring country in fact. Looks nice, but boring. As other anons have said there's good museums. The food is mid at best, there's sketchy leering Syrians everywhere. The countryside is overdeveloped into squares of farms, no nature left.

is it good for just walking around? i'll be there soon but only for like 3 days. i'll probably be alone. what should a lone guy do?

I didn't find it boring but I was with a whole international group of people. I didn't see any Syrians but this was in 2014 so your mileage may vary. The farms can be pretty and quaint and I remember everywhere outside Amsterdam being clean and well kept.

You should be able to rent a bike (no not in the red light) and you can cycle basically anywhere. I'd say yeah the Netherlands is good for just cycling around at least in summer it was and it's so small you can do day trips to the coast or smaller towns. Almost everyone speaks English so I doubt you would ever run into any issues even outside tourist areas.

I agree with you. It is a bland place. Worth seeing at least once, but once was enough for me. Schiphol is a convenient airport, so I might go again just for the connections.

Amsterdam is small and very walkable. 3 days is plenty.

I don't know a lick of Dutch. Will just English do?

The Netherlands has one of the largest % of English speakers out of any European nation. Iirc it's something like 70%.

I never had any issues and I imagine it's only got better since I went.
