I’d appreciate some general recommendations for Helsinki and possibly Tallinn. I’ll be going for a week and will possibly spend a day or 2 in Tallinn. I’ll have a rental car so places outside the city proper are possible.

Looking for food/cocktails/parks/your favorite place

A week is certainly too long unless it's a work trip but Suomenlinna is cool and I enjoyed Hesburger was good as a fat American. Also had a reigndeer burger at some random bar in town and that was also good. Rock Church is cool but it's just a church in a cave.

Thanks for the reply, is it really small enough that 7 days might be too long?

Burgers & Wine restaurant in Pasila has the best burgers. After that head to Löyly for a good sauna. You might wanna check out Lauttasaari as well.

in estonia there was long drink gin - i duno if its actually finish. cheap mixed citrus soda and gin cans

only been to tallinn
it was cool, went in middle of December
dont really know whats "estonian food"
christmas festival glogg i didnt really like.
it was a very relaxed town you could find quiet parts like walking past the abandoned 1800s russian empire prison along the coastline was cool
the medieval tavern in the middle of old town was neat if not touristy,

the random stalls of immigrant food was neat coming across uzbek, georgian, ukraninan not normal ones i'd normally encounter. like every half developed country they have the typical immigrant foods too india, china, italy.
had some russian soda that tasted like pine - baikal

7 days is enough to see everything and I do mean everything. Helsinki is pretty small compared to what kind of name it has.
Helsinki's downtown is maybe 2(3 days if you walk slow) days of sights and museums worth anything.
Maybe take a boat ride to one of the islands
Tampere you can go see the Lenin museum and that's about it
You might take a train to the aritic circle to say you did it i guess

Enjoy a town flooded with LGBTQIA+ shit, no I am not meme'ing

>no I am not meme'ing
Yes you are. Maybe you went there specifically with your fellow lgbt'ers and were seeking out pride stuff.

Great, thank you for the insight everyone. I appreciate it!

It’s not too long, there’s plenty to do.

Take a guided tour, and see some moose. Do sauna as often as possible, I never expected it to be so rejuvenating. Go to the zoo. Go to the natural history museum. Tallinn is superb, eat at the medieval themed restaurant in the city center, they serve bear, boar meat, reindeer. Visit the contemporary art museum; Google tom of Finland (lol). Visit Temppeliaukio Church. Visit the moomin museum. Malminkartano Apple Tree Garden. Go mushroom hunting, and search for false morels (considered toxic in the states, bt a delicacy there) and chaga fungus. Kammpi chapel. Do a bit of research and search for wild hedgehogs. Helsinki central library oodi.go fishing for zander at Vanhankaupunginkosken voimalan silta . Eat reindeer at Ravintola Sea Horse. The National Library of Finland. The libraries, art museums and churches all have fantastic opportunities for architecture photography. Eat pastries at Gateau bakery. Drink at bier bier. Drink at bob’s laundry. Art museum ateneum. Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden. Eat even better pastries at ekberg 1852. Have a nice cocktail at Liberty or death. All these bars have interesting style. Exhibition Centre WeeGee. Helsinki Art Museum (HAM). Löyly is where I did sauna, but there may be more affordable, neighborhood places.

Seriously, if you can’t fill two weeks with things to do, you’re probably a boring person.

Have a wonderful trip, I certainly did!

I've lived in Finland for over 15 years. A week in Helsinki is way too much. Consider some day trips.
Porvoo is about one hour away by bus. Go there for a day trip. Get cheap chocolate from the Brunberg factory shop (either the factory itself or the small outlet in the old town).
Turku and Tampere are a bit further by train but still worth visiting as a day trip, depending on your interests.

Sompasauna is a fun activity. One of the few places where I was actually able to get Finns to engage in conversation
